Paul  2002-06-28 22:21:42 ( ID:4aoeiasjn1r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i load a film that should be for example 68 minutes. when i go through the project wizard the program reports that the film is some stupid size such as 235 minutes in length

if i try to play clever and and input the begining and end of the film in the source range option when i click to start encoding i get an error message -537403781 263648.

if i click on ok the message keeps repeating on the screen and TMPGenc won't proceed.

hope someone can help me with this as i am new to all this and totally stuck

It seems that there is something wrong with the header information in your avi file, this is common with files downloaded off the net,and to my knowlege there isn"t much you can do about it you can try to make a copy of the file with virtual dub or frames serve the file with virtual dub but if the header info is dammaged then virtual dub might not read it correctly either but you can try...

Hi, when I utilise merge and cut I have an error 0x80040200 directshow.
In VFAPI plug in, DirectShow Multimedia File Reader is priority -1.
I use tmpgenc 2.56
Please, help me.

Minion  2002-06-28 21:38:11 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have no idea why you are getting this error but I know that there are a lot of bugs in the "Mpeg Tools" and if you get errors while useing them there isn"t much you can do to get rid of the error that is why it is good to have a backup editor and multiplexor in case the ones in tmpgenc fail an I have noticed that it happens more often than not.....

Question - TE25 - Sorry to bother everyone again!!!! No.24107
Dpw  2002-06-28 20:09:44 ( ID:stakpzq1suo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am just so excited about learning all this new great stuff. I was just wondering. What settings would I use to get the maximum picture quality for a VCD. So far my computer has encoded everything I have given it in real time so it seems to have plenty of power. I am just trying to understand all the settings. Thanks again.

Dan

If you Download the Plus Version the help manual has a detailed explanation of what the settings do....

Hataian  2002-06-29 17:02:08 ( ID:ceso8j9ek8a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Use avisynth with the CopyDuplicates function of the IVTC plugin
(ivtc.dll)to frameserve your video to the encoder. If two frames
next to each other are very similar, this will help to reduce noise
by replacing the second frame by the first one and helps saving bitrate.

Seems there are a lot of people looking for a solution for this error. After trawling the forum, came across minion's solution:

Go to Options - Environmental Control - CPU
Make sure only the MMX box (NOT MMX-2 or SSE) is checked and voila, should work

Many thanks to minion's entry on 06/24

Question - TE25 - Interlace? or non-Interlaced? No.24103
Dpw  2002-06-28 19:59:01 ( ID:stakpzq1suo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Which is better and why would you have on over the other?

Minion  2002-06-28 21:09:44 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

you use interlace on interlaced movies, ntsc movies at 29.97fps are interlaced, and pal movies and ntscfilm files are progressive.....

AndyRPSmith  2002-06-30 10:58:06 ( ID:8yfrh0k0y/a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you intent to play back the video on a TV you need to intelace as TV works by displaying two fields which are interlaced. If on the other hand you wish to play back only on the PC use need to deinterlace as the PC monitor only displays no interlace video, interlaced video looks torn on the screen as fast moving pictures containing the two fields are displaced on the screen.

Question - TE25 - Titles No.24101
Dpw  2002-06-28 19:44:47 ( ID:stakpzq1suo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

More questions on the same project. The higher bit rate worked nice. But the titles screens (white text on a black background) flicker a bit. Is there any way to clean that up?

Minion  2002-06-28 21:29:01 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That could be caused by the source being "Interlaced" or it could be "Block Noise" or turning up the "motion precition Search" to the slow or slowest setting might help....

Bug report - TE25 - Export to AVI - sound volume really low No.24100
George Daswani  2002-06-28 18:52:56 ( ID:e.0ypftasg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello TMPEGEnc,

It seems that there's a problem with the AVI export of TMPEGEnc, the volume is much lower on the AVI's than the source files. No AUDIO EDITING was perfomed (ie, normalize and etc)..

TMPEGEnc Version is 2.56

Using other programs, the audio is exported at the correct volume..

Thanks,
George

Question - TE25 - Subtitles with TMPGEnc... No.24095
DOMiNiON  2002-06-28 14:24:14 ( ID:olwifacjtcw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How can I encode dutch subtitles into my avi file when I'm converting avi2vcd?

Hataian  2002-06-28 16:40:02 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Search on http://www.google.com for "sub station alpha".
With it,you can make subtitles for your avi file.
It generates a script which you must indicate to
the subtitle plugin in Virtualdub, and then the subtitles
will be displayed.

ASHY  2002-06-28 17:28:58 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Most subtitles can be ripped from the DVD and converted to a format that Virtualdub can use when using one of the subtitle plugins and can then be added to your movie and frameserved to TMPG.

If you don't already have the subtitles there are various sites around the internet where you can download subtitles for most movies and then add them to your movie with virtualdub. These sites also usually have the software and info how to do it too.

Question - TE25 - What's the difference No.24092
Stratyon  Home )  2002-06-28 10:53:16 ( ID:8atfyruo8eo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

...Bethween TMPGEnc and TMPGEncPRO?
Is it just the help files and unlimited MPEG2?

And another quick question.
I tried to encode a film at around 45 minutes before and it took about 4 hours.
Now I'm trying to convert another similar video, and it suddenly takes 17 hours instead. And it seems it takes that long with the video I encoded before too.
Have I tripped over something in the preferences to cause this?

Hataian  2002-06-28 14:04:05 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don't set "motion search precision"under settings at highest.

Minion  2002-06-28 21:24:27 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I guess you mean "Whats the differance between Tmpgenc(demo) and Tmpgenc Plus"I haven"t heard of a "Pro" version just the "Plus"version.Well the plus version has unlimited mpeg2 encodeing, and a better 2 pass method, and it is faster than the Demo and you get a instruction manual.......

Bug report - TE25 - Incorrect text display for LARGE font No.24087
ted  2002-06-28 08:57:26 ( ID:8crcrg8aeja )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use Windows default options for a 1024x768 monitor with LARGE fonts.
However, text in several TMPGEnc 2.56 screens is not displayed correctly because too long lines are cut off. Any solution for this (apart from using SMALL font, of course)?
Many thanks,
Ted

ADEY  2002-06-28 10:13:41 ( ID:rqghnp3u6ul )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What screens does this affect? Using large fonts only affects the actual OS windows eg.active windows, menu options, etc.The actual program fonts are preset so using large fonts does not affect application fonts. I have tried to recreate your problem using extra large fonts, and TMPGENC fonts remain exactly the same except for menu options.

ADEY.

ted  2002-06-30 14:48:19 ( ID:8crcrg8aeja )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Several screens do. E.g.:

Main screen: "Remaining time" is rendered as "Remaining tin"
"Source position" as "Source positi"

Environmental setting screen: General Tab: 1st & 3rd line are cut off
Canopus DV Codec: 1st & 3rd line
etc., etc.

I could send you screen shots in *.jpg format if you would be willing to give me your email address?

Thank you,
Ted

ADEY  2002-07-01 17:11:27 ( ID:rqghnp3u6ul )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK. Now we're getting somewhere! First of all I apologise for not asking which operating system you use.If you are running XP the problem is easily solved,if not,it is a little more involved. In XP there are actually to ways to create large fonts:
1:Go to display properties / appearance /fontsize. (correct method)
2:Go to display properties /settings /advanced /DPI settings. (produces your error. creates 120 dots per inch which also changes size of most screen items.icons etc.)
In windows 98 if you select large font from the "settings" appelet it also increases the DPI to 120. To create large fonts without increasing the DPI of other items, use the "appearance" appelet and select appropriate font size for each individual item in the drop down list. eg."active windows","menus","title bar" etc. You may also need to change the icon spacing setting in this drop down list to accomodate for the larger font.
I'm not too sure about windows 2000, but i'll presume it's one of the methods above. If you need to e-mail me, just click on MAIL next to ADEY at the top of this posting. Good luck,
Adey.

Also appologies to all of you who are saying that this is not really a question for this forum.Of course you are right, and in future I will re-direct to e-mail.
Sorry.

Request - TE25 - convert seq AVI's to mpeg No.24085
matthew  2002-06-28 07:00:22 ( ID:ki2p268qu7c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My capture card allows me to save DV footage over the windows 2GB limit with multiple sequenced AVI's. Will TMPG allow me to select these files as group and convert into a single VCD. If not whats the best way to achieve this?

ASHY  2002-06-28 10:40:52 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

According to the TMPG info it will only accept Canopus or Panasonic and I-O data DV GigaAVI codecs which have been used to create the AVI as sequential files.
If your DV file isn't one of these you would have to use Virtualdub to frameserve the files to TMPG using the 'append' function to join your files into into one.
The insructions on how to use the 'append' function with sequential AVI's is in the Virtualdub help files.
