Question - TE25 - Divx file is not smooth No.24383
Jack  2002-07-03 05:29:55 ( ID:p6rjfyecagj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there is a file i have and it is divx. The file does not run smooth so i encoded it to mpg and it still sucks is there a way toi fix this problem plz help i have been working on this problem for nearly a year now. Thx

Minion  2002-07-03 08:36:00 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If your divx file sucks then encodeing it to mpeg isn"t going to make it not suck, and might make it suck more, there are certain utilities that you can use to try to fix your divx like "divx fix"or something like that, look at the tools section at the divx web site or at vcdhelp.com....

ASHY  2002-07-03 14:17:42 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Exactly what do mean by doesn't run smooth? A little more info on this would be appreciated.

ASHY

Jack  2002-07-03 23:02:09 ( ID:p6rjfyecagj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What i mean by the file not running smoothly is that it drops frames when i used virtualdub i clicked on "move to next dropped frame" there are so many dropped frames and that causes the movie to be not smooth. For example if you move your arm from the top to bottom and your arm does not go smoothly form top to bottom, the motion is not constant. I thought that if i were to convert it to mpg then it would move smoothly.Thx.

ASHY  2002-07-03 23:36:29 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Where did you get this bad file from? I'm afraid there is nothing you can do about dropped frames and converting to another format won't make any difference. If the frames just aren't there they can't be recreated by converting to another format. There are programs out there that can help repair these sort of files by interpolating dropped frames, but these programs are usually very expensive and very difficult and time consuming to use.

If it's not that important then just live with it and get your file from a better source next time.

Jack  2002-07-04 00:01:00 ( ID:p6rjfyecagj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well i got this file of Kazaa and i asked people on kazaa is the file corupt and they said no and there file runs smoothly so there must something wrong that i am doing. I defraged my harddrive and i am using a Pentium 233 mhz,196 ram, 8 meg video card could that be the source of the problem? There must be something that you might be able to tell me. Thx

ASHY  2002-07-04 00:21:44 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So hang on a minute here, what you are actually saying is that the file doesn't actually have dropped frames, it's just that your PC is having a hard time playing the movie without jerking.
If this is the case there are only 2 things you can really do about it. One is upgrade your processor or encode the file to a lower bitrate and resolution so your PC won't struggle when playing it back, you can also lower the bitrate of the audio.

What is confusing me is that you say you used Virtualdub to move the file to the next dropped frame. If Virtualdub says there are dropped frames then regardless of what people are telling you, there must be dropped frames, simple as that.

Jack  2002-07-04 00:25:42 ( ID:p6rjfyecagj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Alrite that is a good idea for upgrading and the lowering of the bitrate. Now what bitrate should i use? the following info know is: 320x240 22hz audio but i dont now the current bitrate, the code used was fast motion.

Question - TE25 - Need a little info concerning screen size + quality No.24381
Johnathon  2002-07-03 05:11:34 ( ID:ogfxy10qu0o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm basically a beginner with this whole mpeg thing so I'm wondering if someone can help me out a little:D I have a file that I'm trying to encode into mpeg1 so i can give it to my friends. I've been looking around at all the formats and stuff and it just sounds really complicated. So figure why not just go and make a normal mpeg1 file that has goood quality before i go around fooling with standards(ex. vcd,svcd,xvcd,divx..once i can figure this out i'll try the others)

Now i really want to get the best quality for my 90min file and I decided to split that 90 min on 2 cd-r. The source is 720 x 480 and the bit rate i want to use is 1900kbs per cd. Should I shrink the source down to 352x240 to achieve a better qaulity when it's blown up to full screen using a regular file player? In other words what I am trying to ask is would a 720x480 file encoded with 1900kps be better quality in fullscreen or the 352x240 at the same bit rate? Thanks for all the help

Minion  2002-07-03 08:32:57 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You would have better quality at that bitrate with the vcd resolution 352 by 240 ,cuz even though the higher resolution would look beter there isn"t enough bitrate to make the frame size look as clear and crisp as the lower resolution, plus your dvd/vcd player might not play vcd"s with 720 bu 480 resolution, but it might at 704 by 480,.......

i was wondering if its possible to encode maultiple files at once...i have a bunch of 5-7 min clips that i wanna do, is there any way to do them a ll at once so i can leave it for a few hours without having to restart it every 20 mins ? Thanks a lot

Minion  2002-07-03 08:27:02 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes It is called "Batch encodeing", what you do is load in a file do your settings then go to "file" and "save project" now do this for all your files , then go to "file" to "batch encode" then load all your files into the batch encode window then click "run"...

You have to get rid of the evil codec pack called "ANGEL POTION" that is installed on your system, the angel potion codec causes this problem so you must get rig of it to fix the problem, you can replace it with any mpeg4 or divx 3 codec....

I know this forum is for TMPGenc, but hoped someone here would be able to answer a question about Virutal Dub. I am attempting to use virtual dub to frame serve to tmp, but in virtual dub, I cannot see the video. I can capture the audio to a wav file for processing, but cannot preview/edit the video... Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance

Actually, I have encoded it with TMPGEnc, but I'm now trying to improve the quality through frame serving it from virtual dub. I am able to strip out the audio with virtual dub, but the video just won't show.

thanks

ASHY  2002-07-03 17:27:00 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You say you are trying to improve this file? In what way? Is it not possible to use the filters in TMPG?
Also you didn't answer the original question. Will the file load into TMPG and can you see the preview there?
It's very unusual that Virtualdub doesn't show the video.
Is it only this file that doesn't work in Virtualdub?
Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the DIVX5 codec?
If that doesn't work try installing DIVX 4.12 and then open the file in Virtualdub.

Question - TE25 - Problem with sound ( AVI to MPEG 1 ) No.24364

The sound stops after 14 seconds in the mpeg file. Do you know how to fix this?

Thank You

Minion  2002-07-03 01:56:11 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It sounds like the audio format of your source file (avi) has an unsupported audio format like mp3 vbr, or ac3, you need to extract the audio to a wav file from your avi file with "virtual dub" then use the wav file as your audio source, but if you have allready encoded the avi file to mpeg ,you can de-multiplex the mpeg ,encode the wav audio from "virtual dub" to a mpa file with "tmpgenc" then multiplex the mpa file with the de-muxed mpeg file....

How do i convert
avi-->mp3 because i can't
convert avi --> mpg by using tmpgenc..
so...i need to use virtual dub to get
mp3 from avi file....
how do i do that?

Minion  2002-07-03 01:49:04 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is what you are trying to do is extract the mp3 audio to a wav file so you can encode it in tmpgenc? This is easy , just open "virtual dub" load in your avi file and then go to "file" and to "save wav" then choose your directory and that is it......

Question - TE25 - TMPGEnc stops Encoding at 1:45 min !!! No.24350
iparout  2002-07-02 22:35:34 ( ID:w9iotqoonxm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there.

I am experiencing a very weird problem... I have captured 7 minutes of VHS video off my VCR. I used VDub to capture it at 704x576 (YUY2) and the file generated was 8 GB in size (VDub bypasses the 2 GB limit). When I captured the same video with Matrox PC VCR, it was automatically split into 4 parts of 2 GB and 1:42 minutes in length each.

I decided to encode the 8GB file into TMPGEnc and encode it into VCD PAL. TMPGEnc estimated that the encoding time would be around 20 minutes, however 5 minutes later, the encoding was finished ?!? I checked the output VCD file and I was surprised to find out that only the first 1:43 minutes were encoded. Windows Media Player would continue playing the remaining minutes (the cursor was scrolling) however the screen was black and there was no audio (i.e. that part was not encoded).

I then tried feeding the 4 2 GB files into Premiere timeline, one next to each other, and framesrve to TMPGEnc... I was also surprised to find out that TMPGEnc would only encode the first 1:45 minutes and then nothing...

Let me tell you that the 8GB .avi file would play flawlessly in VDub (it gives me an unsupported format error in WMP though) however TMPG can not encde it till the end.

Has anyone experienced this weird problem ? I think it must have something to do with the Windows .avi filesize restriction but I am not sure.

What can I do to overcome it ? Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. : To what its worth, I have WinXP and the drive where I am capturing to is NTFS formatted. MPGEnc version is 2.56.39.143 -free version- (core version is 1.89.137). I am using the on-board VCD template of TMPGEnc.

Minion  2002-07-03 01:39:44 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well if the files play flawlessly in virtual dub try "frame serveing" the files from virtual dub, of use "virtual dub" to encode the 7 minute in file into a single high bitrate divx file, if you used divx 4.12 or 5 then encoded it to the max birtate of 6000kbs with 4.12 or 10,000 with 5, the file would be less than 100mb and have pretty much exactly the same quality..but frame serving from virtual dub would be your first best bet then if that don"t work encode to divx, just a thought....

iparout  2002-07-03 08:47:19 ( ID:w9iotqoonxm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It seems like this is a problem with the TMPGEnc version. I installed an older version (2.01.30.116) and everything worked normally.

Perhaps this is a bug ?
