Is Pegasys working on an update or a new version of TMPGENC 3.0 Express? It's been a couple of months since the front page of Pegasys-inc have been updated. Last update was for the older 2.5 encoder.

I would like to see some speed improvements in the next version.

Wile_E  2005-03-17 17:17:02 ( ID:3jityvgcqdw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I guess no updates coming soon. :(
Time to switch to a supported encoder that gets updates more often.

Personally I'd like the encoding speed improved on TMPGENC. It is really slow compared to the competition.

Looks like they upgraded it today.

TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress Ver. 3.1.5.82 - March 23 2005
Fixed [Batch Encoder]: Some problems occurring during the Batch Encode have been fixed.
Fixed [others]: Some minor problems have also been corrected.

True, but still slow.

xpress blows up when I try to import dvr-ms files. Does xpress work with media center 2005 version?

jpk195  2005-03-01 13:00:24 ( ID:0n1pyxnnakc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i am having the same problem with MCE 2005 - the trial version works fine but now i paid 60 bucks and can't import dv-rms, which is the reason i bought the software! the technical support people mean well i suppose, but they don't speak very good english and so far have not been helpful. I may ask for a refund.

I use 3.0xpress with my MS Media Center 2005 all the time.
So far it works without a hitch for everything I use.

I have been using TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress since it was released with no problems. I have tried to encode a long video (3 hours) and get this error message:

"There is no quoted number of Character-string '%.2f'."

What is the problem? How can I correct it?

Although this is an awfully cryptic error message, it's actually pretty simple to solve.

It's just about disk space.

If you are using NTSF partitions make sure BOTH your destination AND your temp disks have sufficient space for the file you are trying to create.
In my case I was trying to write a 4.3Gb file and although the destination has plenty of space, the temp disk only had 1.2Gb free. Temp location is in Option->Preferences

If you are using FAT32 either convert it to NTFS or dont write files over 4Gb

"If you are using FAT32 either convert it to NTFS or dont write files over 4Gb"

Do i have to convert my FAT32 drive to NTFS to get DVD (PAL) with 4GB size??
is there any way to do it without converting to NTFS??
thanks.

With the 4GB problem with the FAT32, your actually fighting a FAT32 limitation, a 4GB file is all it can handle, so yah, convert to NTSF and you'll be sailing. And as always, anytime you play with reorganizing the entire file structure of a hard-drive, back up what you don't want to loose.

Hello to you all

I often get a question to encode a PAL or NTSC into the NTSC or PAL format.
CAn anyone tell me if this is possible with tmpgenc 3.0 Xpress?

I'm intend to buy the program but this issue is very important to me
to decide wether I will buy it or not

Best regards,

Ed

B_Racer  2005-02-24 09:47:11 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is possible, but the Result will be a bit ugly.
You need better tools to do a proper NTSC <-> PAL Conversion.

Go to doom9.org and search the Forum, there are many threads about Norm-Conversion.

when i select an *.avi file for converting, i get a message that the file "cannot open, or is unsupported."

any typical things i'm forgetting to do?

thanks

Bojo  2005-02-28 07:47:56 ( ID:9jtuinwmf8g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That error message usually means that TMPGenc can't find a codec to decode the audio or video. Sometimes this occurs when the AVI file uses an older "Video For Windows" codec instead of the newer DirectShow codec. Your best bet is to use another program to transcode the file to another encoding before using TMPGenc to convert to MPEG.

IN ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING>VFAPI PLUGIN set higher priority for the respective codec go by trial and error. Restart TMPG every time till you get to see the video.

Question - XDVD Bitrate Issues No.53402
cgulka  2005-02-15 15:26:10 ( ID:lydwe2zfgno )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I encode a file using the XDVD template using the bitrate suggested, I get a file that is much smaller than the projected size. When I use the DVD template it is right on. Can anyone tell me why I am not getting accurate file sizes with the XDVD template? I would love to be able to bump up the bitrate to get an even higher quality final product.

I was trying to encode some mpeg files together into a DVD-PAL file structure, however when i start encoding I get an error right at the beginning and then the encoding aborts. The error is "character-string '%.2f'". Can anyone help me with why this is happening and point out to me how i can resolve this. Let me know if you need to know any information about the files. I have not changed any default settings in the software. Thanks in advance.

DO NO USE ANY SPACE OR SPECIAL CHARACTORS LIKE & IN YOUR FILE NAMES.
YOU CAN REPLACE SPACE WITH _ IF YOU NEED SAPCES FOR READING IN FILE NAMES

Question - DivX and Xvid settings No.53399
drose12  2005-01-27 02:15:05 ( ID:aubtnpwr0yc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, just purchased TMPGENC 3 Xpress.
I've been having some audio sync problems on long movies.
I am using .dvr-ms files as the source (recorded from Windows Media Center 2005) and I'm trying to convert them to either divx or xvid. I am using the AVI option and have tried several different combinations of settings. Has anyone had any sucess with any particular settings?

When I use the WMV option, I do not seem to have the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Question - Use Xpress to create streaming wmv files? No.53398
james  2005-01-25 18:28:18 ( ID:c6hphrj7.on )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert some mpeg1/2 files to streaming wmv files, is Xpress a right tool? I plan to put the converted files on a windows media server as streaming media, not for progressive download. In windows media encoder, when you try to convert a file to wmv, it always ask you "what do you want to distribute your content?" along with many options such as "streaming", "progressive download", "CD/DVD" etc..., I'm assuming the output taking from Xpress is only good for distributing in CD/DVD, is this correct? Please advise!

Question - Cannot load audio from an AVI No.53397
aldaco12  2005-01-19 11:38:28 ( ID:h6pvwobt6n2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi. This is my first time with TMPGenc XPress. When I add a file, only the video source is selected. I can load the audio from a MP2, a MPG but not from a DivX audio I made by myself using VirtualDub (and therefore has no strange sounds like AC3 or other).
If I open the file with VirtualDubMod, on Stream --> Stream list I can see there's a 'AVI audio stream 1 (tag 0x0050, Microsoft MPEG layer 1,2)'.
Why cannot I load the Audio? With TMPGenc 2.5 I can do it!
