Bug report - Trial expired after install No.53096
dialtone  2004-05-23 03:06:56 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What's the deal here? I installed the trial version on two seperate computers. BOTH pop up with the trial has expired. My God, I get an e-mail advertising a new trial version and it's already expired when I install it one day later.

I see that I'm not the only one to experience this. This does not bode well for credibility.

dialtone  2004-05-24 13:52:16 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Two days later, I try to launch the program. This time it gets the license information correctly and the Trial is to begin.

I am in no way impressed that it is working after two days. IF I were to BUY this program and had to wait days to use it, when I wanted to use it, I would be very pissed off.

I asked this in another thread and I'll ask it here again.

What happens if Pegasys loses it's internet service? This could be caused from one of a million or so reasons. Maybe a disgruntled employee, a virus, a hacker, poor economy, the list goes on. If this license call back fails, the software stops working.

Maybe it's permanent. Maybe it's a delay of 6 hours. Or 6 days. Can you afford to spend your money on with this kind of risk? Can you afford to delay your work because the license won't access the update site?

This information should be more widely available. Not many people are aware that this BBS is even here.

Looks like this periodic licensing could be the demise of TMPGenc as the encoder of choice. At least I'll be able to author the DVD's I create with CCE and MainConcept with the TMPGenc DVD Author.
The makers of TMPGEnc Xpress 3.0 should also visit the forums at www.videohelp.com for more feedback on the periodic license debacle.

I agree, periodic license renewal will kill the product
I own lots of software that prevents sharing of license key, such as WinXP Pro, it does not require periodic license activation.

Question - No overwrite file warning No.53093
anton  2004-05-21 06:36:05 ( ID:at0ygnxhyen )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

T3 allows me to output to m2v and ac3 using a file name that already exists, there is no warning most of the times, on rare occasions only, the warning works

Question - Trial and 59.94fps No.53092
wcpaul  2004-05-21 06:24:52 ( ID:m8km0qiv2po )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Got the trial working.

Two more annoyances. The major features I need are AC3 audio and 59.94fps encoding. AC3 is almost certainly not enabled in the trial (bummer). But what about 59.94fps? There is even a drop down selection for that frame rate.

When selected in MPEG Output mode, an error says it is not a legal frame rate. But I can find no way to select MP@HL like in TMPGEnc 2.5.

Is this a bug or is High Level just not available in the trial?

Question - T3 missing T2.5 feature No.53091
anton  2004-05-21 05:48:52 ( ID:at0ygnxhyen )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am unable to encode wav audio to mp2 or ac3 without adding a video file. I can use T2.5 for audio encoding without video. T3 insists on video!

Request - Limited Image sequence formats No.53090
rs  2004-05-20 22:15:32 ( ID:ejxoh.ha4cc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGenc has been a staple here for DVD authoring and MPEG1, for the last couple of years, and it is disappointing to see that .tga image sequences are no longer supported in the 3.X release.

While I realise that we are in a minority of users, as a high end post production company, image sequences are the foundation of the workflow here, so being able to use .tif or .tga files is a necessity. Unfortunately .bmp or jpg won't cut it.

Is there any intention of adding this support, or are we stuck on version 2.5?

Regards,

Richard

Question - XPress 3 License will not validate No.53089
Producer  2004-05-20 15:01:36 ( ID:0yybjv3pc4m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I bought XPress 3 today and it took me 4 hours to try and understand the download instructions. Has to be the most convoluted I have ever seen! I finally got to the point of receiving a serial number.....now the downloaded software will not validate. I have checked everything a hundred times. What is going on here guys???

Question - Encoding NTSC Film MPEG No.53088
cr1970  2004-05-20 14:17:29 ( ID:s9tdydgcvno )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I open an AVI clip, it is showing as 30 frames per second, instead of the correct 23.976.

If I encode the file as an SVCD 29.97fps the output is fine. If I choose NTSC Film there are problems with interlacing in the final file.

If I frame serve the file the the correct fps is shown on the source screen.

The files work as expected in TMPGenc 2.5 Plus.

Is this an error in the application, or am I choosing the wrong settings?

Thanks

Question - Periodic License Renewal not good No.53084
anton  2004-05-20 11:51:04 ( ID:at0ygnxhyen )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just upgraded to version 3 and the ac3 plugin (from 2.5)
My edit computer does not have an internet connection, this is common sense!
I had to steal a modem from another computer in order to cativate the software, only to find out that I need to do this on a periodic basis, that is not good since I bought the software and I have the license key already.
What is the definition of periodic, once per week, once per month, once per year? if less than once per year, I must get my money back and I will continue to use 2.5 which works excellent. I simply don't have time to install a modem on a regular basis to activate software that I already own!

Kika  2004-05-20 22:45:30 ( ID:qkyo0nicg8j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Same here. After one Day of testing (nad extra installing and removing XP to be able to test it), i'm back to TMPGEnc 2.5.
Periodic Licencing ? How long will this be supported? What to do in a couple of Years? Maybe the company will be gone some day - and then? Throw the software into the Trashcan?
I definatly will not use such restrictive software.

TmpegENC3.0 ... Weekly relicensing? Your kidding, right?

With the new so called "Intenet Viruses" being the new frontier for hackers, you don't have to do anything to get infected except be connected to the Internet. You cannot connect safely to the Internet with a Microsoft product.

My edit computer is my livlihood. It has never been connected to the Internet ... never will be.

I hope you folks at TMPGEnc Net change your policy because I can't afford to change mine!

Cheers,
Gil

I agree, this really stinks. With the quality of this trial not even working, due to expiring one day after I get an e-mail advertising it. How do I know they will be up and running tomorrow? I can't get the trial to even start the first time. I find it hard to trust this quality in the long term.

Question - No Way No.53083
Stolen  2004-05-20 02:17:31 ( ID:d./d9i9jflm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To be able to try out this new software, you can download a Trial Version, but must have an Internet connection in order to use the functions.
Consider these three points:
(1) In most cases you will have to disable your Firewall !!!
(2) I want to install TMPGEnc Xpress on a different computer which is not connected to the Internet. Why? My video capture computer has NEVER been connected to the Internet, and that is why it is still virus free !!!!
(3) If and when you want to rebuild or re-install Windows, you'd better hope that Pegasys is still in business, online on the Internet, in order to reinstall Xpress.

Sorry Pegasys...After purchasing TMPGenc Plus, DVD Source Creator, and TMPGEnc DVD Author.....You've lost me !!!

Question - Trial Period Expired right after install ? No.53075
Tom  2004-05-19 17:26:00 ( ID:d./d9i9jflm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just downloaded the trial version of 3.0 express. As soon as I installed it, it said the 14 day trial was over. Kind of hard to do since it hasn't even been out for 14 days. ANy input ?

Thanks,

Tom

Please verify your computer'calendar settings. On our side we are changing the activation server settings to avoid this kind of problem in the future.

Tom  2004-05-20 02:18:57 ( ID:d./d9i9jflm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank you. I shall try it tomorrow again.

wcpaul  2004-05-20 07:19:12 ( ID:m8km0qiv2po )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This happened to me too. Now that it has failed, our computers will probably never be able to install it again. (The registry will have a record of the expired trial.)

Is it even worth the effort to try again if this is the quality we can expect?

Tom  2004-05-20 22:37:04 ( ID:d./d9i9jflm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It works now after a re-install so it appears they have resolved the issue. I would try it again.

dialtone  2004-05-23 03:13:45 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

One word....NOPE!

It's not fixed! Glad you got it working. I've tried it on different computers, too. Uninstalled, reinstalled, and modified. Nope, not working here.

dialtone  2004-05-24 14:50:53 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Two days later, it now works. Can you afford to wait days before you start each project?

putn  2004-09-22 01:29:22 ( ID:enmly8kku7k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Trial still expires upon installing here - so problem not fixed.

Never had TMPG Express installed before.

Pegasus loses my business with this kind of nonsense.

My computer is set to EST for business reasons. I am in PST time zone.

No way I am going to change my time zone for any program!

Good Bye Pegasus!

Question - Why Win2K/XP only? No.53073
Kika  2004-05-19 14:36:27 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Title says it all... My Encoding-Machine is running under Win98SE - very stable, very fast. Too bad, i can't change to TMPGEnc 3.0, not even try it.
