Obviously I'm a newby. Downloaded the freeware to investigate trying to clean up some old home movie vcr tapes. Capturing tape (avi) thru dazzle Pinnacle and then encoding (NTSC, interlace). I tried six experiments with the noise reduction:

1. Still picture 0, Range 1, Time Axis 0, High Quality=No
2. Still picture 20, Range 1, Time Axis 20, High Quality=No (default)
2. Still picture 40, Range 1, Time Axis 40, High Quality=No
2. Still picture 0, Range 1, Time Axis 0, High Quality=Yes
2. Still picture 20, Range 1, Time Axis 20, High Quality=Yes
2. Still picture 40, Range 1, Time Axis 40, High Quality=Yes

I can't see any noticeable difference when playing back the TMPG mpeg file. Is there any difference? I can't find any documentation on the website.

Thanks

Question - converting mp4 video to mpeg2/mpeg1 video to play on dvd No.43760
migaluchi  2010-02-15 18:29:20 ( ID:trcnrlmujja )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi folks...obviously i dont have a clue here...so pls be patient.

for an example...i want to go to archive.org and download the 'Captain America' cliffhanger serial.

1. this should fit on (1) DVD the total of all the files is just under 1.2GB...

and i have a bunch of CD-Rs. i would like to burn some VCDs and DVDs with a little menu system (just PLAY ALL and CHAPTERS).

2. i picked up a sony dvd player and it does play VCDs.

3. i am looking at CH 1: this file (and most of the others like it) give this information:

MPEG4 (260MB) , Ogg video (121MB), and [512Kb MPEG4 (99MB)-- this is the one i chose]...size of files vary. i discovered by accident that this is the format each of these files is in: FORMAT : ISO Media, MPEG v4 system, version 1

4. these will play on my pc and this is a big, new system....windows 7, 1 terabyte disk, 2.6GZ and a DVD burner.

5. this cliffhanger has 15 chapters. it may probably fit on (1) or (2) DVDs or (2) or (3) CDs.
6. i just want to know:
a. will the PAYWARE version of TMPGENC convert into MPEG2 and MPEG1 formats?
b. another forum suggested: TMPGENC paid version to do the encoding...Ulead DVD Workshop 2 (PAYWARE) to do the menus...and burning is with (FREEWARE) ImgBurn

does this sound like a workable solution with WINDOWS 7?

can anyone PLEASE help a lost soul like me? i happen to love these old serials....but i cant afford to buy many. my pension doesnt go far these days.

thanks for your kindness and patience.....

migaluchi,

I have TMPGEnc 2.5 and it does all that you have mentioned. The price is too incredible for what it does, regarding quality compression, not to invest in.

Your system should be fine for all of this.

For a DVD, you will want to convert it into an MPEG2 format which will have a file extention of .m2v

If you have ULEAD WORKSHOP 2, which it sounds like you do, then I would use this program to set up your menus and chapters "AND" I would use Ulead Workshop 2 to burn your DVD as well.

That's what I do.

Good Luck,
Steve

Question - WMV to MPG1 with no loss of quality? No.43756
dt  2010-01-31 16:21:40 ( ID:z8sjporl/nf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been converting some wmv files to MPEG-1 and resulting file is always much smaller than the original and of a lower quality.

Is there any setting in TMPEG that allows the quality to remain the same?

Sundog  2010-02-02 14:16:35 ( ID:ppqv4rwviga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, that's not possible, because it's a completely different format.
But of course you can change the resolution and raise the bitrate for better quality.

UJ  2010-02-13 02:02:23 ( ID:wtpt1k4zkfa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You're converting to MPEG 1 (VCD quality). It is a format with restrictions of of 352 x 240 using mp2 sound at 44 hz. If you want to save them in MPEG 2 (DVD quality) you might be happier but then they will be 720 x 480 with MP2 sound at 48hz. These restrictions are because there are standards to make DVD & VCD quality video. WMV has many more options and less standards.

Use Windows Movie Maker to convert from (windows) .wmv into DV/AVI (= .avi) .. then use TMPGENC to do the MPEG conversion (and select something better than the low resolution VCD profile :-) )

Request - Output Field Order Setting No.43755
str4ngS  2010-01-28 13:11:40 ( ID:shup/7yqlzc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Dear Community, Develeopers,

I use the latest TMPGEnc to convert DV videos to MPEG-2, but it seems for me that TMPGEnc generates a nonstandard stream (according to MPEGValidator 1.4). Being nonstandard caused by field order (Bottom field first) that is standard at DV. This means a problem when importing these clips into video editors like Adobe Premiere CS2. TMPGEnc only offers the setting of field order of input videos. Could you implement a feature enabling users to swap fields or change OUTPUT field order separately from INPUT field order?

Thanks
str4ngS

dom  2010-10-01 18:58:40 ( ID:3ialo30lhuc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can't just swap/change the field order of DV. You have to shift all the fields up a line and reverse them. The trouble with DV its not professional. Its consumer. Hence it has a different field order to every other professional pal format.

the simple answer is don't shoot on dv.

Question - Time Code Format used in TBE Batch Files No.43754
mbb999  2010-01-09 00:22:10 ( ID:depihrjenzj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to automate the batch file process by generating a "tbe" file using a number of standard settings without having to go through the Wizard on each pass. I know others have done something similar but I want to control the Start an End frame on each pass, which I don't believe these other programs handle.

However the "tbe" file stores the Start/End Frames in a 10 byte binary time format which apears to be rather obscure. Does anyone know how this data is coded?

Thanks

Question - Multiplex Multiple Video Channels? No.43753
jstroming  2009-12-30 03:19:43 ( ID:.wslcoir3b. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi...

I need to multiplex 4 mpeg2 files and 1 audio file into a single MPEG2 Transport Stream. Is this possible? If not, can anyone recommend a software that can? I am using a Cineview Quad mpeg decoder card from Vela to playback the videos on 4 screens.

Thanks,
Jeff

Question - Opening Files No.43751
duke  2009-12-03 21:57:50 ( ID:csf9/snw3t6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, everyone:

I wanna re-encode a mpeg-file. If i open a mpeg-file as 'Video source',
it works. But if i wanna open a mpeg-file as 'Audio source' it don't
works. If i only open a mpeg-file as 'Video source' and i encode it, i get
a new mpeg-file with a video-stream, but without an audio-stream.
What can i do? Why i can't open a mpeg-file as 'Audio source'? This file-type
is shown as an option in the file-type-list of the 'Audio source'. Or what
file should i open to get an audio-stream in the new mpeg-file after re-encoding?
Please answer as fast as possible!

Thank you so much!

UJ  2010-02-13 02:05:46 ( ID:wtpt1k4zkfa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You don't want to re-encode anything. You want to demux (or remove) the audio stream from the video stream. You will end up with a WAV file if you use VirtualDub and then you can do whatever you want with it.

Question - MP4FileLibU.dll No.43746
G. Seizan Breyette  Home )  2009-11-26 00:00:18 ( ID:9cy6w7pzhnc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been using TMPGenc 2.5 Plus for some time, and it converted MP4 files with no problem. However recently I upgraded to Windows 7, and some programs seem to have been changed a bit during the upgrade.

I don't know if the following is directly related to the upgrade or not. I recently installed a few other video editing programs and uninstalled them after trying them, so may be related to an uninstall...

Now, when I try to convert an MP4 to MPEG1 or 2 using TMPGEnc Plus, I get a message that infomrs me the file cannot be opened because there is no MP4FileLibU.dll installed.

I searched for such a file and found it in my Pinnacle program, copied and pasted it directly into the folder for TMPGEnc with the rest of the .dll files. Still same message. Is this supposed to be placed in another file for TMPGEnc, or installed elsewhere? I cannot get as good quality control of the output for MP4 to MPEG with the opther programs I have.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Seizan

Added...

A friend told me to ask if someone who is using TMPGEnc 2.5 PLUS would please do a search for the MP4FileLibU.dll on their PC and post the locations. I can then just copy and paste the file into the same places, reboot, and see what happens...

That might just do it, maybe.

Regards,

Seizan

Copy the file to the system32 directory, then go to start, execute and type
"regsrv32 mp4filelibu.dll" without the quotes and press enter, this should solve the problem

G. Seizan Breyette  Home )  2009-12-07 00:24:26 ( ID:9cy6w7pzhnc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Seems like that should have worked but I get a message that it is an invalid entry. Doesn't work.

Did you try to regsiter the dll-file as Administrator ?
regsvr32.exe

Question - Vob Files under 1MB in size not encoding No.43745
Marcus  2009-09-30 09:49:03 ( ID:4xvhxrathwk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Using tmpgenc 2.525 free trial.
I ripped a disc containing 100 or so individual vob files and proceeded to do a batch conversion outputting each file as seprate m2v and wav files (deinterlaced-with noise reduction.)
At the end of the process, ALL of the vobs under 1MB in size produced a 32kB m2v/ 7KB wav ; tmpgenc says conversion successful, but the m2v and wav is blank/empty. All of the other vobs above 1MB worked fine.
Perfoming a conversion not in batch mode produces the same results.
I skimmed the FAQ but im not sure how to word my query.
Anyone have any ideas?

Question - MPEG-2 Encoding function has expired No.43742
BuzzDoet  2009-07-26 16:37:55 ( ID:fx3cewaiuon )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded the free version of TMPGEnc 2.5 (TMPGEnc-2.525.64.184-EN.zip).
I unzipped the files to a working directory and started the program (TMPGEnc.exe) and tried to encode an AVI file.
However when I press start a dialog is displayed with the message "MPEG-2 Encoding function has expired".
The text on the dialog explains that the free version can supply only 30 days limited MPEG-2 Encoding.

I understand that, but I receive this message at the first day I try to use the software.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to run an installation program or do I need to register the software?

Any help appreciated.

tkrave  2009-08-07 02:36:40 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you downloaded it before? If so, there is probably a file somewhere that it checks.

I accidently downloaed TMPFEnc 2.5 Plus, installed, and then the unit expired. I uninstalled and tried to install the free version. However, I keep getting and invalid install, please install again. Any advise on uninstalling the original version? TIA

Try re-downloading the free version installer; maybe it was corrupted somehow.
