I am new and would like to know why when i try to convert an ati file which my videocard is an all in wonder radeon that the tmpg 2.54a says that avi file is not supported or cannot open file i am trying to convert Harts war on 2 cd's i adjusted enviromental settings to zero except direct show which is on 2 I have converted other short 5 min movies but cannot convert any others! Can anyone help me? I am running xp with 1.6 ghz 80g hard drive but no dvd player yet only home dvd which i would like to play these movies.

ATI file ehh, never heard of it must be a capture format for ati video cards,is it an avi file?try captureing to uncompressed avi or another avi capture format,and try raising the "avi compatability reader" and"open dml" file reader"
in the "vfapi plugins"..Tmpgenc" is mostly compatible with avi, mov ,and mpeg formats so if you are captureing to a non avi format you will have problems,if you could encode your ati file to say divx4.12 with "virtua dub" then it would work .but try raising the filters first before you do a time consumeing encode to divx.........

I have a problem very similar to this one (hpd777): I have captured some video avi dv files from my videocamera, then I mounted a complete movie from them with premiere 6.0 and the output exported to a dv avi file.
Tmpgenc is unable to import the dv avi file exported from premiere but works OK with dv avi files captured from my videocamera.
I've used several versions of Tmpgenc but the result is the same.

how do i use the de-multiplex for encoding MPEG2 files in2 MPEG1 files

The demultiplex isn"t for encodeing it is to seperate the audio and video streams so you can load the mpeg2 in to "tmpgenc" to encode to mpeg1, if you are getting the ilegal mpeg stream error while demultiplexing even when the setting at the top is set for "super vcd" then there is something wrong with the mpeg, or it wasn"t made by "tmpgenc" and could have a incompatable audio format,you can try to make an avi out of it and load that into "tmpgenc" but that would take twice as long as usual,....

Can sum1 help me? how do i convert SVCD's in VCD's?

Is it a svcd file or is it on a disk,if it is a file it is the same as encodeing an avi file to vcd,but sometimes "tmpgenc" wont let you load a mpeg2 file into it.so you then have to de-multiplex it and then load each file individualy and then it should work,but if you still have problems you can make a project file with it useing dvd2avi...I hope one of these things will work....

go to "file " then to "mpeg tools" then to "de-multiplex" load your mpeg2/svcd file in and click "run".It will give you a "m2v" video file and a "mp2" audio file ,then load the "m2v" file in for your video and the "mp2" file in as audio, this should get it loaded in "tmpgenc"....

ooohhh...use the "simple de-multiplex" it will be easier......

ive tried that and it keeps cuming up with "illegal MPEG system stream" How do i get past that?

you have to make sure that you choose super vcd setting at the top of the page....but if you keep getting the error then there is something wrong with your mpeg file....you can try to make a divx avi out of the mpeg and then encode that but it will take a long time.....you can e-mail me and I"ll tell you how, that is if you can"t find another solution....

you could try putting direct x version 8 in or failing that do a search for the missing .dll file and then try pasting that into your system folder and system 32 folder but i'm not entirley sure if that would work or not

I am having problems creating vcd file from a dvd2avi project file I can render the video only but when I add the wav file I get the error "An error occured when audio was decoded" I tried setting the wav file reader's priority but it doesn't work... Pls give me some suggestions

Try extracting the audio from the vob files with dvd2avi again,make sure that you have the audio on "auto select" and "dolby surround downmix".and maybe extract a different audio track from your vob files(if there is another audio track in your language),look in your info file that smartripper made(if you used it)and see what other audio tracks you have and selact from one of those...hopefully one of these things will solve your problem...

One thing you can try is load in your d2v file and encode it without the audio,then encode the audio with "db power amp" with the mp2 plugin, then multiplex the two files together...I have done this quite a few times when i thought there was something with the audio but it turned out to be my media player...

Darn... an extra two steps I have to take... do you have any ideas why tmpgenc can't do it??? I would really appreciate it if I could do it in two steps less.. if not.. what program does the multiplexing?

"Tmpgenc" does the "multiplexing" under "file" go to "mpeg tools" you can edit and merge and de-multiplex here.."db power amp" is free from "www.downloads.com"and you download the plugins at there site..by the way can you hear the wav file when you play it with media player or win amp?and have you tried any external audio encoders like"toolame" and "scmpx" they work with "tmpgenc"?maybe you should try one cuz the audio encoder that is built in "tmpgenc" sort of sucks..you can find "toolame" or "scmpx" on any search engine, I use "scmpx" if you want I could e-mail it to you?......

never used DVD 2 AVi, but if it works with VirtulDub, let the VD frameserver pass the data to TMPGEnc and everything should be all right since VD only passes uncompressed data to TMPG

I have successfully encode my first mpeg2. Now the trouble is splitting it. I split it and burned it with nero 5.5. When i played it in my dvd player the motion was scetchy and audio out of sync. I was not like this when i played it on my computer....help

maybe the problem is with splitting it, I didn"t know that nero split files and I have been useing it for a long time,any way if you need to split a file in "tmpgenc" under "file" go to "mpeg tools" then to "merge and cut" and it is pretty self explanitory from there............

i did split it with thpgenc. i only burned it with nero...lol

I am a complete newbie here. This is only my 2nd project. I just finished a 7 hour encode from AVI (captured in Studio 7) and want to create a DVD (MPEG-2). I am a registered owner (paid for it!) of 2.53.35.130. At the end of the 7 hour encoding process I get a dialog box
"An error occured when audio was decoded".

I haven't yet burned the DVD, but played a minute or two of the MPEG-2 file on the PC using WMP and it seems OK.

Any ideas? I'll be glad to fill in more information, but I don't know what to tell you. I repeat --- newbie!!!!

that error happens from time to time and sometimes the file works and sometimes it doesn"t,but if it plays fine on your cpu then it is probably fine to burn it to disk........

I burned - and it seems OK. Would still like to know what the error is (for academic reasons)

When i´m converting a DivX/.avi to video-CD I get som problems. When trying to play the .mpg in computer or burn on a VCD the movie seems to stop for a ms every second. When i´m using TMPGEnc to rip strait from .VOB files theres no problem. Any idees? Thanx

i get the same problem when doing that. I found i got to seperate the audio and video stream with virtualdub. There are full instructions at vcdhelp.com. Then u have to encode the avi at the fps. that is very important.

you shouldn"t feed vob files directly in to "tmpgenc",there are a lot of reasons why,get dvd2avi to make a project file and use that to put in "tmpgenc"..

Hi. I'm having problems identifying the video stream format on an mpeg2 movie. I need to convert it to mpeg1. When I tried to demultiplex, TMPGenc creates an mp2 file but no video file. Also tried the De-multiplex to force create the video file by itself. However, TMPGenc would not multiplex back the created video file.

Can anyone help?

Try to use a virtualdub and that will seperate the audio stream for u. There are complete instructions at vcdhelp.com.

I am a beginner with these kind of things. I am trying to convert an avi file to MPEG to vcd. This file------(smr)crouching_tiger_hidden_dragon-dubbed-dvd(2of2) ---- to MPEG to watch it on my DVD player. I've downloaded this program ---TMPGEnc Version 2.53.35.130--already and tried it to convert above file, however it doesn't even see the file in my folder. Can someone tell me step by step what I need to do?

Ok this is a common problem i had. u have to go to Option>enviromental settings and then go to the VFAPI plug-in tab. In that tab zero everthing out and raise ur direct show to 2.

you might need the "smr" codec to get it to work...

It probably means that your avi file is corrupt,you should put it through "virtua dub" and do a frame scan to see how many corrupted frames you have....bu to get around the error first go to your "cpu" tab and un-check everything there then go to the "quantize matrix" tab and uncheck the "use floating point" then you shouldn"t get the error...

Okay, I am really at my wits end here, so any help would be great. I have tried many methods of converting a divx movie to svcd using TMPG. Let me just give a runthrew...

First TMPG wasnt giving me a picture for the divx video in the preview, after a couple mins I relized I needed a different codec, installed it, and got preview. Then I went to encode the movie into svcd, and it didn't encode. The est time kept moving, but it didn't encode even 1 frame.

Then I decided to rip out the audio and try just using the video source from the divx and the ripped out audio. Yet again, same problem.

My last effort was to encode the movie into mpeg2 format, then try to add it with the sound. Yet again, it didn't move at all.

I have done everything I could think of including installing/uninstalling all the divx codec, uninstalling/installing powerdvd, but nothing has worked. Any help would be great plus more than worth 5$!! (this is truely driving me mad =p)

You can try to encode your avi file to another divx format maybe divx4.12 it"s the one i use, then maybe it will work or you can try to encode the video with no audio, and later encode the audio and multiplex them together, just a thought..
