Question - mpeg1 to mpeg2 No.19859
Unset  2002-04-25 04:50:12 ( ID:jhpy0epvjw2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey.I'm having problems with converting my mpeg1 movie to mpeg2(vcd to svcd).I just updated my computer to Windows XP.When I click browse and locate my movie, it doesn't load and it shows an error report. Then it automatically closes TMPGEnc.Can anyone help me????

ASHY  2002-04-25 16:07:45 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'll probably never understand this, but why do people keep converting VCD to SVCD.
1. The quality won't be increased, but will probably decrease.
2. The file size will probably get bigger.
3. The file will be less compatible with more DVD players due to being MPEG2 SVCD.

Explain and relieve my ignorance and I will try and help you out my friend, but need more info on the error.

This is what the error report says...TMPGEnc has encountered a problem and needs to close. The information your were working on might be lost. This started happening ever since I updated to Win. XP. I'm not going to uninstall it. Plz help me.

Have you got any MPEG2 codecs installed so you can open the file?

ASHY

Unset  2002-04-26 18:46:45 ( ID:jhpy0epvjw2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not sure if I have a svcd codec installed. Does it have to do with me unable to load vcds??Do you know where I can download it?Thanx.

ASHY  2002-04-26 22:16:13 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Forget about the MPEG2 codec I was getting myself confused thinking you were trying to open an MPEG2 file. You don't need it for MPEG1.

Try this.
Goto File>MPEG tools and use the 'Simple demultiplex' option to seperate your video and audio then see if you can load the video only into TMPG.
If it loads then encode and when you have finished multiplex the audio back with your encoded movie.

Question - Audio & Video Sync Problems No.19856
dougieritch  2002-04-25 03:08:56 ( ID:pnwwqifwvbh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Dear Tmpgenc,
First of all I love your software it is great! I've wanted to backup some of my dvd's into vcd format. So I ripped the dvd with smartripper, and ripped the audio with dvdtoavi, then used Tmpgenc to encode. The first move I did went flawless! However the last two I've tried have had audio/video sync problems (the audio is about 1.5 sec slower than the video). I've looked at your help site and it talked about slowing the frame rate, etc. I've still been having problems with the audio/video sync. First of all could it be that I'm not choosing the right settings (aspect ratio, frame rate, video type, frame time, etc)? Sometimes when I rip the dvd the video type says "FILM" neither PAL nor NCSC. Sorry for the long email, but I'm trying to give you as much info as possible! Thank you so much for your help and your wonderful software!

donjuan80  2002-04-25 03:46:38 ( ID:1cfi67x68wm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

most of the times that I ripped dvd's, I've kept the framerate at 23.x and the sound at 48khz

for some reason i've noticed that changing the hz cause sync probs

have u tried just adding silent sound (empty space) to the start of the audio track? I use cooledit pro to do this.

ASHY  2002-04-25 12:12:04 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You should keep the framerate of the output movie the same as the input movie or it will cause sync probs and if you are encoding to VCD make sure the audio is 44.1khz.
If the original framerate is in FILM 23.976 FPS and you want to convert to NTSC 29.976 fps, select "Force FILM" from the Video -> Field Operation menu in DVD2AVI then use 3:2 pulldown in TMPG to convert the framerate to 29.976 fps.
This is how you are supposed to do it, but to be honest with you I've never actually got it to work properly.

If none of the above relates to your problem and you just wish to shift the audio slightly to resync with the video then download BBMPEG.
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avi2mpg2.html

First demultiplex your movie with TMPG then using BBMPEG remutltiplex. BBMPEG has an option to add a delay to the video or audio before you multiplex to resync you movie. Here is a guide how to do it http://www.spawns.dk/svcd/bbmpeg.htm

Question - Jerky Mpegs No.19849
tiring_day  2002-04-24 23:17:28 ( ID:mk8pw3dua56 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi all

After encoding AVI/DIVX to MPEG for VCD, when I watch them they seem jerky. Looks to be about them same duration between pauses as the number of frames TMPGENC encodes at a time. Looked through previous articles spotted nought so any help much appreciated

Steve

ASHY  2002-04-25 00:10:05 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Either you have changed the framerate of the movie from the original or you have burned the disk at a higher speed than 4x.

Post back and tell which.

Minion  2002-04-25 22:24:21 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have the exact same problem but it seems to be from the dvd player cuz on really expensive players they play fine ,I did a little reading up on dvd players and have come to the conclution that dvd buffers can handle over flow a lot better than under flow, and looking at the bitrate in a graff, this seems to be the problem(with me any way)........

tiring_day  2002-04-26 19:50:55 ( ID:mk8pw3dua56 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

From looking at what I have done, I have changed the frame rate from 23.97-25. Tried to follow all the steps that I think you have posted and wow what an arse, will try to follow them again but the divx file I was converting would not give a frame rate in AVIFRATE changer, so would not allow to be changed. I always thought it would be so easy but maybe not

Steve

ASHY  2002-04-26 22:27:58 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Which steps?

ASHY

tiring_day  2002-04-27 08:40:35 ( ID:6a49ixtecko )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The steps using AVIFRATE changer, cooledit and virtual dub. Is there an easier way of changing the frame rate and obviously keeping the audio in sync

ASHY  2002-04-28 22:15:37 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well if I remember rightly in that post i gave instructions on how to change the framerate with Virtualdub and use that as a frame server.
but you will still need to change the audio with cooledit and any way it isn't as complicated as you think.
Shouldn't take you more than 10mins.

Question - Preview & product building purplish blocks No.19842
Don  2002-04-24 23:03:32 ( ID:awwmaatoq8r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Recently, I have run into the problem when converting avi to either mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 these purplish blocks start to build up like a crescendo and then dissappear returning the picture to normal. This cycle repeats being not noticeble at first and then bulds and builds until it just suddenly dissappears again. It runs about a 5-10 second cycle. I have reinstalled TMPGEnc and always delete the current.tpr file before use. Anyone have any comments or reccomendations?

ASHY

Don  2002-04-24 23:35:11 ( ID:awwmaatoq8r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No...I even reran a cople avi's I previously encoded without a problem...now the problem exists with those as well

ASHY  2002-04-25 00:05:51 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you installed any codecs, or players or media software lately.
It seems somewhere on your system there maybe a rogue codec causing problems here.

Tip: Goto controlpanel in windows and click either 'multimedia' for win 98/me or 'sounds and audio devices' for winxp
For win 98/me click the devices tab then video codecs and remove any codecs you don't recognize or to be safe remove all and re-install the ones you need.

For winxp same as above except click the hardware tab then video codecs then properties in the box that comes up.

Post back and let me know how u go.

ASHY

Don  2002-04-25 02:27:45 ( ID:awwmaatoq8r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi Ashy,

It didn't work.

If it is any help, the problem first began after endcoding to SVCD using the freeware demo. Ever since I get pinkish-purplish blocks in my previews and final product. I deleted all the codecs and installed only those I need. I also ensured my video drivers were up to date.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would highly like to get back to creating my VCD's and SVCD's.

Don  2002-04-25 03:07:48 ( ID:awwmaatoq8r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Fixed...there seem to be two smr patches floating around...the one from http://www.smr-movies.com is what I had. After installing the smr codecs from http://www.divx-digest.com/software/smrcodec.html They play perfectly.

Thanks for your help...it was still a learning experience.

ASHY  2002-04-25 12:33:16 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

As far as I'm aware the SMR (shadow movie realm) codec is just an inferior hacked Divx codec which causes nothing but problems.
I would steer cleer of this if you can, but if your downloaded movies are in this format then obviously theres nothing you can do.

Question - movie on two cdr disk put onto one cdr disk??? No.19840
Charles Lott  2002-04-24 22:22:05 ( ID:voxmtbrx6gm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

how can i take a vcd movie that is on two cdr disk and put that same movie onto one cdr disk?

donjuan80  2002-04-25 03:42:29 ( ID:1cfi67x68wm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

u could try lowering the bitrate of the 2 files to the point where when u make new mpegs out of them and join them they r under 700mb

then u can make a vcd out of it

schuerman  2002-04-25 06:36:32 ( ID:qhpvmo.rxk2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

sounds like you don't have the codec to open the movie. I had this problem. I went to drivers.com and d/l codec mp4x (mp43 codec driver) now I can open any movie.

Minion  2002-04-25 22:27:23 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your problem is with your "vfapi plugins" .Go to your "advanced settings" to "vfapi plugins" and raise the "direct show" to "2" and lower every thing to "0" or "1"...this should fix it...

Question - svcd, 480 by 480, how do i change it to look right?? No.19832
Kona  2002-04-24 21:53:33 ( ID:p/glgp6sq4f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I burned a svcd mpeg2, but it is 480 X 480 and looks funny. Will it look right on my dvd player on the tv?I burned a vcd and it looks in like a correct picture. How do I burn a svcd to look correct, not all tall and squishy, like 352x240. ??Thanks a bunch.

Minion  2002-04-24 21:57:02 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

under the "video arange method" choose fullscreen keep aspect ratio, this should solve yer problem.....

ASHY  2002-04-24 22:25:34 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don't worry about the fact that the picture looks squashed. The reason for this is because media player 7 or 8 isn't very good at aspect ratio sizes where SVCD is concerned.
It will look ok on your DVD player because it will stretch it out to fill the width of the screen. It's just a technique to squeeze more information on to a disk by compressing the image then stretching it back out. Something similar is done for anamorphic films you see at the cinema.
If you really want to see what it looks like use a DVD software player such as WINDVD. This will give you the correct size when viewing or as an alternative download these filters http://www.kehuelga.org/video/dvd/app/freedvd.zip and use windows media player 6.4 to view your movie.
If you have windowsxp this is in your program files folder and is called mediaplayer2.

Also, if you want to download the Elecard codec and player at www.elecard.com, the player will allow you to stretch and resize to any dimensions you want.

Question - miniDv to cd/mpeg/vcd No.19829
uriela  2002-04-24 21:51:16 ( ID:ij0jth29kio )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I intend to buy aSony camcorder which records to a miniDv cassete.
My intention is some how to convert it to a format that my DVD player will be able to understand (I think vcd or mpeg, any thing else?) and after convertion to burn it to a cd media.
First, is it possible?
what is the format I need to convert to?
how do I do it?

Thanks,
Uriel

ritchie b  2002-04-25 15:22:58 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your best bet would be to convert your source to mpeg-2 (svcd). Make sure your DVD player is compatiable with CD-Rs and s/vcds first!!.

Skysurfer  2002-04-27 20:25:09 ( ID:f75hq2ciabf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I do this all the time with my Sony camera. I don't have a DVD burner (yet) but I've made some killer video cd's that play on my set top DVD player.

Do you have a video capture card? With the Sony camera's there are a couple ways to get the video into your PC. One, is with a firewire adapter that interfaces with the little port on the camera that says "iLink". It's actually IEEE1394 (Firewire). The other way is through a standard capture card.

That's where you would want to start. What kind of setup to you have?

I am converting a 700 MB AVI I want to put the converted mpeg on to a CD the completed file is larger than 1 GB is there a way to split the file so it will fit on two CDs

Minion  2002-04-24 21:55:03 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if you go to mpeg tools, you can use the merge and cut option,or before you encode you can use the source range option to encode each half of the movie..

Master_Hiram357  2002-04-25 02:55:22 ( ID:lf8bomhf4rj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Everywhere I go there's an explanation on how to split the files in half using merge and cut but when they get to that part they don't explain further. They don't explain after you cut it then what, do you save it or whats next ? I have a ful movie in my hard drive and I can't burn it on C.D. because it's too long, Can someone take me further ?

donjuan80  2002-04-25 03:48:28 ( ID:1cfi67x68wm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

try going to www.vcdhelp.com
they have good guides on editing vcds and other types of files

ASHY  2002-04-25 15:08:22 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Heres a step by step guide.
Just make sure you choose the 'Mpeg-1 VideoCD' option when you cut if you are creating a VCD.
