The software description implies that it can detect commercial breaks but trying with a mp4 video, that has a number of long (5 second) black parts in it, detects nothing! Am I missing something here? Do I need to buy the "TMPGEnc Movie Plug-in Commercial Candidates Detector" ?

The Commercial Candidates Detector is already integrated into the software I think. I'm not sure it will work on a 5 second black segment though, as I think it looks for segments that are the length of normal commercials (15 seconds, 30 seconds, etc.).

Other video editors that have this facility (VideoRedo for example) search for black frames and I assumed this worked the same way. This is how I'm doing it at the moment, using VideoRedo to find the ad breaks and Smart Renderer 5 to do the editing. I was hoping to be able to do it all in SR5.

Interestingly I've now used SR5 with some films with full advert breaks and it works reasonably well however, it does only seem to detect black or fixed frames on a few seconds long so I don't see why it shouldn't work with the programmes I had tried that had some simple black sequences of 5 seconds or so.

The Smart Rendering Analyzer, such as it is, is a helpful tool for gauging the extent of re-encoding that will take place, but I would find it far more useful if this feature could be enhanced so that those specific frames that are marked for re-encoding are identified and distinguished in some way (color highlight or similar) on the Clip Edit Window timeline.

Surely this is something that could be easily implemented, even it it requires 'refreshing' the smart analysis after editing ?

Further thoughts - maybe could make this an option in the Preferences, so that when selected the Smart Rendering Analysis is automatically refreshed when clicking 'OK' after editing in the Clip Edit Window. Sure you'd have to wait a bit longer for the analysis to complete, but the information gained would be far more useful than the existing representation.

I crrated an avchd folder with Menü. Than I created an ISOfile og the folder using Imageburn. My WD mediaplayer goes to the menue but EhenI push the play button the Wd goes to the Usb drive routedirectory instead oft playing the movie

I am trying to split mp4 recorded multiple movies videos into the different movies and everytime it lists the clips as rescue. Is there a way to fix this. I tried spliting a mpg and it split fine. I also tried with Mastering Works Trial and it split. I have the trial version of both to see what will work before buying.

You can try running the Smart Rendering Analyzer in the Format stage to help figure out why your clips will be re-encoded.

I have a timeline project consisting of four layers. I made adjustments to each layer until finally being happy with an encoded mp4 result. But now I want to split that mp4 into four parts.
--> Is it possible to designate a part of the timeline project to encode, instead of encoding the whole thing?
--> If so, then I'd designate the 1st part, encode that part. Go back and designate the 2nd part, encode that part, and so on until I have 4 encoded parts instead of one total encoded video.

Will the future bring a version that allows UHD BR burning?

I guess they will take this as a request.

I'm trying to output a Blu-Ray with menus to a hard disk folder using the batch processor, but after a few hours I get an extremely useless error message saying: "The output stopped on an error".

I've searched all over, but I can't find any TAW5 error logs (or any other log files) anywhere on my 64-bit Windows 7 Pro system. How am I supposed to know what to do? Does anyone know where I can find the log file or any other way to discover what went wrong?

Before I even began, I confirmed all codecs and codec settings were correct, ran several test tools, and confirmed that I have far more than enough room in the output hard drive. So how can I find out what's the problem?

I think this error comes up if there was really not enough memory for the
application. Windows 32 Bit Operation System can control at least 3GB
memory but there is a limit, one application can use at least 2GB
memory.
Memory problem happens most by AVCHD but it can be used very much
too by HD movies. (almost by creating menu thumbnails).

How about if you try to create a BD without menus? just for checking.
Do you have a slide show clip? If yes try to output without
that clip. (a lot of memory will be used by picture resizing).

Looks like the only way to handle this is by reducing your clips.
Or try also to create menus without motion, or effects.

Also try to disable following multithread settings at
Options > Preferences > CPU >
"Use multithread for filtering" and Options > Preferences > MPEG settings >
disable all options that use multithread function.

I Got Video Mastering Works 6 to work once I did the latest Nvidia driver update. I hope this helps someone else.

When using the H.265/HEVC video decoder in the Stream Format, an environment with an Intel compatible CPU (Haswell core or newer) and a compatible driver with Intel Quick Sync Video functions are required.

A lot of CPU cycles are invested in creating those tiny thumbnails when you are editting a clip in the Cut-Edit window ... and then when the thumbnails are displayed they are overlapped so much that they are often useless. How do I tell TMpegEnc to show the thumbnails side-by-side instead of overlapped so that I can see the full thumbnails?

For example, on my 1920x1200 display, the thumbnails are about 60 pixels high. Thus for a 1920x1080 clip the thumbnails should be about 107 pixels wide ... but what I actually see is only about 60x60 because of that useless overlapping of the thumbnails.

If I could see the center 60x60 region of each thumbnail it wouldn't be so bad.

You can right-click on the main preview, then go to Display Settings, then choose a different setting in the third section.

You can also create your own thumbnail display settings in the Preferences-->Clip editing section.

for ex.
User setting 1: setup the interval by "sec interval"
and choose "1"
- then on Cut-edit > make right click over the preview screen > choose Display settings >
and choose "User setting 1 interval..." option

There are a lot of limitations with TAW5 in terms of copy and paste (which doesn't exist at all), preference settings, subtitle editing, etc. For instance, you can spend a lot of time creating a custom chapter menu in TAW5 -- the program contains lots of tools for being creative; but there's no option that will allow you to copy the entire layout, including every user item placed on the page, and paste the identical page, elsewhere.This seems like a very basic and standard ability every authoring software would have.

What bugs the crap out of me is Subtitle Editing. I always use TOP and BOTTOM subtitle positions for videos (like TV shows) that display credits during the beginning of the video, usually at the bottom. I have to manually select each subtitle line, click a menu, and click to select each line's menu position. Does anyone know if there's a key combination (like SHIFT+CURSOR) that allows you to select multiple lines to apply the position setting to a selected group of lines? The HELP file is very limited in describing subtitle options and nothing I've tried allows me to select more than one text line at a time, to apply a subtitle layout option.

As far as I can tell, you're limited to editing one subtitle text line at a time -- you can't apply an option to multiple lines at once. Maybe I haven't found the option to do this?

I was looking to upgrade from mastering works 5 to 6 and saw that hardware encoding for x265 is supported for NVidia gtx 970 and up or intel whatever. Where is the support for AMD Fury-X? The Fury series cards have hardware encoder support for x265 yet nobody utilizes it. This is not just a TMPGEnc issue I know because none of the other multitudes of editors out there will touch AMD with a 10 foot pole. My frustration is that these fury cards seem to be purpose built for this kinda stuff and nobody seems to know how to implement it. The x264 solution is fine for most things but going forward please reach out to AMD and see if there is an API available for the necessary hardware calls for x265. Most likely the issue is AMD has no published data concerning the APIs that the developers need to implement support with. Until that happens I guess we all sit and scratch our heads while 8 gazillion stream processors with 9 TeraFlops of compute goodness does squat.
