Downloaded the trial version. However the app gets stuck after clicking "Obtain a license", i.e., nothing happens. All I can do is "control-alt-del" to end the program.
I just tried out the most recent version to see just how well CUDA performs, but I find it rather disappointing.
I tried creating a 40 minute MP4 video to be used on a mobile device (eg. PPC, PSP, Ipod, etc.) on a Core 2 Duo E6400 with an Nvidia 250GTS.
With CUDA enabled, it took 30 minutes. Without CUDA, it took 25 minutes - rather disappointing.
The same file, using a similar MP4 profile, on Badaboom media encoder takes 4 minutes on this very same computer while using almost exclusively CUDA. And the resulting video has similar, if not better quality.
I really hope that CUDA acceleration gets properly implemented in TMPEGEnc, since it's editing features and filters are vastly superior to what Badaboom offers.
I just dropped in a Phenom II x6 running at 3.8ghz in my computer that has a 9800GTX. While encoding a 40 minute DV file to a DVD compliant MPEG2 file (at the highest quality settings with 2-pass, video noise reduction, Inverse Pulldown deinterlacing, & a few other minor filters) it was going to take about 60 minutes to process with CUDA turned on. I turned CUDA off and it processed in 24 minutes. It's pretty useless unless you have a really old PC.
.mkv files can be used in a project. I should know, I've got a 1080p mkv movie with menus converting at this very moment!
Although it did take a bit of fiddling to get the mkv to work correctly, you need the correct codecs and you need to enable the right parts of the codec.
I use the K-Lite Codec pack full version with avisynth and haali media splitter.
If you google it you should find the answers you need.
We have built a menu using a Top menu and half a dozen track menus. All seems well except at the track menu level there does not seem to be a way to force a return to the track menu at the end of a chapter; instead the next chapter plays. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks
Scroll down on that page to the discussion between echo44 and GeorgeW where George W provides step by step instructions. It takes a bit of time to understand the usage and terminology, but I was able to output a test project from TAW4, modify with PGCedit, and create a DVD with 12 tracks and 31-28-31 etc. chapters in each that return to menu after playing. The project mimics a Calendar - 12 titles one for each month. Within each title is a chapter corresponding to a day of the month. So, the DVD has 366 video clips one for each day of year.

currently running fresh install with no drivers for Vid cards.
I did this becuase Tmpg4 was crashing with fully install most recent drivers for everything.. board, card, etc etc
I had the same problem with VMESys.dll module crashing.
The problem was solved by installing TPMGEnc to a non-default location - another logical drive _without_ NTFS security restrictions set up by default for the system Program Files folder.
Now I'm able to run it even without any Compatibility Mode settings.
By the way, there's no such problems on Win7 x86 installation.
Authoring Works flags my Mpeg 2 as non-compliant and wants to re-encode it if it's 29.97 frames per second. If I make the same video 23.976 frames per second it passes as compliant. Or if I change it to interlaced it passes.
Can I not do 1080p at 29.97?
The extension is .mp2 with .wav audio. I've tried really low bitrates and it doesn't seem to matter.
Yes, you can connect your camcorder to your computer via firewire and TAW4 will be able to see any files recorded on it as if it were an external drive. You can then output to DVD, Blu-ray or DivX Ultra formats.
I don't think it's possible. If you have multiple tracks, it wouldn't know which track's subtitles to show, and there's no way to set it manually. I think the closest you can get is to go track menu only with title page.
I just installed the latest trial version of XPress 4.7.6.304. I enabled CUDA 2.3 and restarted (no problem). I then enabled the CUDA decoding option, which prompted for another restart.... when I restarted, I received the following error (after the trail popup):
"Read error occurred at address 0A64E978 of module 'UtilsCUDA.vme' with 00000000"
after which the program quits.
I'm not sure how I can reset the preferences. Is there a 'safe mode' I can start the application in?
I built a project using files on my external drive. Now do to extraordinary circumstances I can't explain, the drive letter of the external drive has changed.
Is there a way to change the drive letter of the source files in TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4?
I'm afraid there isn't even though there should be.
First (this is optional), you can check for which source files can't be found in their usual place by using the Project File Check Tool. Find this in the Start Stage-->Advanced Tools-->Project File Check Tool.
This tool lets you select a saved project file and see which source files can't be found where they're supposed to be. You can't change the path from here, but you can at least make a note of which files need to be relinked.
Next, go back to the Start Stage and select to open a saved project and open the project file in question.
An error message will appear for each source file it can't find. Each error message has a "Browse.." button that you can click to select the new path for the source file. Do that for each source file and you'll be good to go!
