hi, im using xpress to encode my sharks tale when it its the black part of movie
(when oscar gets put in the trunk at the race track , its stays black.
when you movie the slider past this point (in the the cut section) you can see the movie still, if you play (in the cut section) when its hits the black point it still stays black.

I am encoding from unencrypted dvd on HD, It plays ok on pc software, even created new ifos for it. no luck I also had bRatz encode in black from the start.
others are fine.
changed bitrate,resolution, templates etc no luck
encodes with flaskmpg fine.

I've been trying to use this TMPGenc but i'm finding it very buggy and it doesnt have any reasonable support. It cant even burn DVDs on win-98 so I have to use the appaling Nero bloatware just to burn a disk

I need something that can make DVDs of any size and not miss out great big chunks of them without telling me

I need support without having to log in or register or bugger about or wait days for emails everytime I have a simple elementary question

and ideally I'd like a nice interface such as this one has (its only selling point IMHO)

is there anything that comes close (the cost doesnt matter - I NEED these things)

TDA isn't buggy. I'm using it by myself - even for semi prof. DVDs
There's only one thing: No burning under Win98, but's that OK to me.

And: If you need support for TDA, you will be lost with any other DVD Authoring Program - they are much more complicated compared to TDA (which is the easiest to use authoring tool).

But OK, you asked for it: The second program i use is DVDLab Pro.

It is indeed buggy you only have to look at how many people here have complained about the same bugs - just take a look at how many people have found it misses out great chunks of their DVD's without even raising an error message to say its done it and thats not new - the complaints go back ages and yet are never responded to. And given the low take up of this very obscure BBS thats all the more a cause for concern

then theres the failure to burn at all under Win98
Then theres the fact it generates output thats not compliant to DVD standards
and will usually be rejected by most legitimate burning houses

no it doesnt crash every five minutes but yes it is buggy

And that 9Gb file limit i've seen people complain about must have been programmed in deliberately because it wouldnt arise as a natural limit during
the programs design - obviously theyre planning on forcing everyone to buy
another product when the larger drives start coming out next year - and doing it deliberately

I needed support to help solve the problems not because I'm stupid or
dont know what I'm doing but the impression I get is this company can't be upfront about either its problems or the lack of support so I think they just cant be trusted

I'm producing DVDs, some of them for burning houses, there where never problems. Also my compliance check programs never do show my some errors or problems. So, if your produced DVD isn't compliant, your MPEG-Source wasn't compliant.

The 9 GByte-Limit ... that's a DVD-Limit! Even the professional Tools (Maestro or Scenarist, which are used for the DVDs you can buy) aren't able to produce bigger sized images or title sets. It does not make any sense to produce bigger discs, because a DVD9 only can store 8.7 GByte - that's a fact.

The program produces output incompatible with DVD standards - thats not a suggestion its a fact DVD authoring houses state if you try to use your output with them. And it has nothing to do with the source mpeg but the output of the program which is non compliant.

its useless for professional work

Some of the time it even says its own output is illegal itself when you try to read it back.

OK then, I have only just got started with making mpegs etc and the last
thing I want is a program which is buggy.

Can anybody suggest an alternative program that is similar to TMPGEnc
but which you consider reliable/better. If I have to pay something for it
then so be it.

Wasted time costs money so it may work out cheaper in the end.

What I was trying to say is that I am totally new to making Mpegs and
joining them and burning to a DVD. There is enough to learn already without
a "buggy" program to add to the difficulties.

I downloaded the trial version of TMPGEnc but the trial period will run
out in about 3 weeks. I have also downloaded a number of articles from the
net about TMPEnc which have helped me get started.

I have followed instructions to the letter, and rechecked everything, but
even then not all works out every time. Maybe its me doing things wrongly
but I have checked all instructions thoroughly. Buggs ?????

I will have to decide shortly whether to buy the program or ditch it for
something else. I would appreciate any advice you can give.

My needs are pretty simple I think. I need to

1. make DVDs from .AVI files
2. make DVDs from Mpegs

No frills, I would be happy with basic DVDs.

Can anybody suggest a program that will do about the same as TMPGEnc
but is more reliable/stable in their opinion, or is TMPGEnc about the

Ive been using Tmpgdvd author for 99 % of my work.
No problems
Its great it has great potential , you can do some nice menus if you use your head.
You will still need a compliant mpg (or trick the program to except an out of standard mpg) using dvdpatcher
It doesnt except avis, use tmpgenc xpress or so to convert.
Use pgcedit to change some of the button function and stuff to make your DVD
do more stuff.

Its great for your basic and medium-high level of authoring.

other wise use DVDlabpro next but you have to do everything there ie link all buttons, but it does transistions ,insert firstplay clips etc.

I agree with b-racer half the people trying to use it have no idea about DVD standards. Of course it output to standard otherwise whats the point.
Anyway if it says biterate is not standard author anyway your dvd player should still play it if not your dvd player is not that relaxed on playing authored dvd's

I have a mpeg-II file that is 15000Kbps in bitrate. I would like to use Tmpgenc to chantge the bitrate to 9800kbps so I can burn it on DVD.

But, when i try to open the file to encode it, tmpgenc shuts down with an error message from WinXP. What could be wrong? is this a bug?

Does anyone know what can be causing my encoding speed problem?

What happens is that after a while of "normal" encoding, I find that the speed of the encoding drops off dramatically. When I stop encoding & start again, its still slow. The only way to get the encoding back to "normal" is to reboot my XP machine.

I've tried setting the priority to low & even setting the affinity in task manager to one cpu (intel p4) with no effect. Under these conditions it will encode at a good rate for a while, but eventually the speed drops dramatically.

Any suggestions?

A suggestion: use motion search precision = highest quality (very slow) and encode at night, while you're sleeping. TMPGenc's output mpeg quality falls when you decrease the motion search precision.

I don't understand why this happens but when I open & run TMPGEnc it starts encoding very quickly. After a short while, the encoding speed drastically drops. For example it is initially estimated that it would take, say 30 minutes, to encode. It encodes at this rate for about 5 minutes, then it slows right down & takes hours to complete. I don't know why!

I'm able to "fix" this issue by opening TMPGEnc 2 times & only using 1 to encode what I want encoded. Now it will take less than 20 minutes to encode a 20 minute video, whereas before it would take many hours.

Can anyone explain what is going on? Has anyone else had this problem?

I have several clips that are good quality & I wish to convert them to DVD
The problem I am having is TMP 3.0 readears will not open the video portion of the files
I have tried different combinations of the mpg readers & priories with no sucsess.
G spot identifies it as "MPEG 1 payload" codec; NTSC 4:3 VCD format
codecs already installed.

These files play fine on any media player
does anyone know of a plug in or codec that will allow TMP3.0 to read these files?

I have an AVI file in wide screen format - I don't know the exact ratio, but I believe it was ripped from a "wide screen" edition DVD. The pixel dimensions measure 576x240 according to the Summary tab in the windows Properties sheet. When I play the AVI in PowerDVD (or any other player) it displays correctly on the screen.

When I attempt to encode this AVI to an MPEG for DVD burning, the video is _always_ the wrong size. Most often the width is correct (576 pixels), but the height is stretched out to fill the screen, giving the image a tall, stretched look. Though occasionally I get video that seems in the correct proportions, but is cut off on the sides.

I have tried just about _everything_ in the TMPGEnc settings to change this output video. The video looks correct in the "preview" window in TMPGEnc, but is always incorrect in the final output file. What is it that I am missing? I'm happy to try to provide any more information that might be helpful in solving this problem, provided that I know the info.

That's how it should be.
As long as you select the output resolution as 16:9 when you play it back in a DVD player or DVD softwer player it will be resized to the right aspect ratio by the player.

Thanks for the information. As I'm still pretty new at this I did a little more poking around after reading your reply. The encoded MPEG video still plays stretched along the vertical axis in my PowerDVD player, but on a whim I did an image capture using the software's built in utility and pasted that capture into Photoshop. The pasted capture was the correct size and dimension. I assume that if I write this MPEG to a DVD that it will indeed play correctly on my DVD player, but do you know why PowerDVD is stretching the video? I have used this software to play all sorts of video on my system and have never encountered this problem before. I've reviewed the PowerDVD settings and cannot find anything that would cause this. Any ideas?

PowerDVD should be resizing the MPEG correctly.
Check your settings.
The source is PAL anamorphic. TMPG input aspect ratio should settings should be:
16:9 525 line (PAL)
Full screen (keep aspect ratio)

Output should be:
MPEG-2
16:9 Display
720x576
25fps

If you are still getting distorted images, you could try my method, which uses a 4:3 ratio screen. Under the aspect ratio setting, choose [Centre] - Custom Size. You can now enter parameters for the height and width of the video. What I do now is scale up the proportions to fit DVD video, so if you want a final output of 720x576, you would take your original dimensions ie 640 x 320 and divide 720 by the width ie 720/640 = 1.125. Now multiply this result by the height - ie 1.125 x 320 = 360. Now in the [Centre] Custom Size width and height boxes, enter in 720 x 360 (the scaled up amount). This method will give you video footage in perfect proportion every time.

If you want to burn off a 1/2 duplex dvd (KDVD for example)work it all out as before, but when you enter in the final amounts in the [Centre] Custom Size boxes, enter in your 1/2 duplex width instead. So using the above example it would be 352 x 360 (for a KDVD).

i have encoded many avi usi tmpge but encounter some files when i'm using tmpgne becomes double or more than the playing time and size. I never change any of the bitrate

Video Highest qaulity. Advance ;Ghost reduction ;noise reduction ;sharpen edged;simple color correction; clip frame; all check. Bitrate 11150

becomes Avi 48m & 483 mb!!!

That's the old VBR-Audio problem.

Convert the Audiopart to WAV fist by using VirtualDubMOD

or

use Source Range in TMPGEnc

Try raising the priority of the 'Directshow file reader' to top of the list in the VFAPI plugins.

You have to make the mpeg using audio and video not just video i had this problem when i just tryed using "system video" but as soon as i put "system audio and video" instead of just video it worked correctly

Not necessary, but it probably worked because it took the length of the audio into account.

Tmpgenc2.5, yuv2 avi input with 720*576pal. I see ligting colnums (may 10) in left side of the frame with preview and in the output mpeg too. But tis only occured if the output is 720*576. If I decrease resolution to 352*576 the this colnums are gone. If I try to mask it then the colnums going to left to right (during the icrease of the left mask value), but always there...
If I check the source avi file with msmp or powerdvd then all of this colnums are normal...

First of all, what in the heck are lighting columns?! Have you got a pic?

What format is the AVI, XVID, DIVX, e.t.c.? What is it's original reolution and which command are you using in AVISYNTH to open the AVI?

Sorry, but this is not tmpgenc problem. The VGA card has problem. In the screen lines in case of sharp dark->light changes we got may some refelction. This is what generate the light colnums in the left side of the screen....

Hello, is there a way to normalize (or adjust the volume) of the audio only in avi video without touching the video part in the file. The problem is that the file size is multiplied by 4 even though I use the same codec as the original file had, this is why I would prefer to leave the video part untouched.

Alternatively is there a batch process to replace the audio in avi with the correspongin wav files that have been processed by audio editor.

I hope you can help me. I have a 1.01 GB MPG file. I want to burn it on a CD, so I tried to reduce the file-size with TMPGEnc 2.524. The problem is, I can type in the size i want, but the resulting video is still 1.01 GB big. So it's not reduced. What have I done wrong?

My advice is to just split it to 2 disks otherwise you will reduce the quality to an unacceptable level.

If you must reduce the size then make sure you select 'MPEG1 VCD (non standard)' as the type.

A MPEG-1 's size is 10 MB * its length (in minutes). Therefore I assume you're encoding a approx. 100' movie (nothing strange).

You have to split the mocie on 2 CDs or to ude the KVCD template gotten in http://www.kvcd.net/portal/index.php, exactly in http://kvcd.net/dvd-models.html (for me the quality worsen, but if you like it)
