for some reason my vcd wont play. i have burned it using nero and it gave me no complaints for burning a vcd. the player i am using is vcd compliant. the only thing i really changed from the vcd template in tmpg was the bitrate to constant quality. does bitrate matter for vcd's and if so what does it have to be?
It DOES Matter if your DVD/VCD player is really picky...The VCD Standard calls for "Constant Bitrate"...But if your Player is that Picky I would Think about getting one that isn"t Cuz it will limit what you will be able to play...Like if it won"t accept a VBR VCD, then it Probably won"t accept a XVCD or a High bitrate VCD which sort of sucks Cuz you will get MUCH better Quality if you can make and Play a VCD with a Higher than standard Bitrate or Resolution VCD...
I'm converting a 6Mb/s MPEG1 to a VCD (~1Mb/s MPEG1). When I select any file larger than about 10Mb it takes a very long time just to step through the wizard.
For example, on a 400Mb file it freezes for about 1 minute just after selecting the .mpg, then another 1 minute after clicking on source to do cutting, then another 1 minute before starting the actual encode.
On a P3/1Ghz/512Mb RAM, this seems like a long time to have to wait when not even encoding. On a 2Gb file, it's about 5 minutes (times 3 since there's 3 times this happens).
P.S., the encoding runs fine and the results are great!
This happens Cuz each step you are going trought the encoder had to decode the entire file...It should happen really Quick in most cases...Have you tried to raise the priority of the "Microsoft Mpeg1" File reader or the "Direct Show" file reader??Doing this might help...
I use TMPGEnc to create MPEG1 files to view on my pocket PC. Most of the time it works perfectly. However, sometimes when I try to copy the encoded file to my compact flash card I get CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) errors.
The encoded file works perfectly on my desktop PC, but cannot be copied to my compact flash card. This happens to only about 30% of the files I encode.
I have downloaded 2 plugins for tmpgenc. binkdecode.vfp is used to load Radgametool's bink video to Tmpegenc...But it couldn't work..is there anybody help or tell me what is wrong and where can I find more info?
That is wierd Cuz I went to the site and it doesn"t seem to have a single thing to do with Mpeg encodeing ...it seems to have to do with Video games...
Most of the latest games using bink for encoding videos. I want to convert game movies from Bink to Mpeg using TMPEnc..So I found this .vfp for TMPEnc. there is also str.vfp which you can import Playstation movie file to TMPEnc..But I can't use binkdecode..I ask here, if anybody use or not..But it seems you don't know what I am talking about..
Now I understand what you want to do...I don"t think those Plugins are supported By the author Of Tmpgenc, Meaning that he didn"t have any input in writeing the plugins so Maybe that is why there is a Compatibility issue..But there ia allways a Workaround for everything..
Ok, so I've turned my avi's to mpeg, now how and what do i use to burn it into VCD's? I've used Easy CD Creator to make the vcd, but i got nothing. I also tried VCDeasy, it showed that everything was burnt onto the disc, but when i put the disc into my player i get nothing? What can and how can i use it to make VCD's??? Please help? Thank you!
well you have to make sure that there is Video and audio in the Mpeg file..Just watch it with Media-Player or something...if there is a Picture then I would use someting like Nero to burn a Basic VCD..But it sounds like something went wrong with the encodeing.....
First of all, excuse me if the question was already asked. I've encoded a DVD to AVI file with sound in AC3 format. When I want to use it in TMPGENC, it doesn't recognize my AVI file as containig sounds. Do I have to extact it in WAV format? Will it keep the 5.1 mode? Is it possible to have it in TMPGENC without changing anything to my AVI file?
OK this depends on what you want to make out of the AVI..if you want to make a VCD or SVCD you can NOT use AC3 audio and expect it to play on your DVD Player or have Tmpgenc recognize it..but if you want to make a DVD then you can just de-mux the ac3 audio then just encode the video then re-mux the AC3 to the mpeg file for DVD...But if you want to make a VCD or SVCD then you will have to convert the AC3 to Wav format...You can use a Program Called AVIMuX to demux the audio as either AC3 or Uncompressed PCM/Wav...
One question more, if I demux the AVI file and convert the sound in WAV format I will lost the 5.1 definition, isn't it? Because I would like to keep it and so have a VCD or SVCD that contains the 5 chanels.
You Can"t ...It is not part of the SVCD/VCD specification so there is No way you can do it Unless your DVD Player supports mpeg audio 5.1 which barely any do and it would be displayed right on your DVD player with a Mpeg 5.1 logo..then you would have to find a program that makes mpeg 5.1 of which I don"t know of any...so you are pretty much S.O.L...

Before i embark on a great 8hour encoding journey, i have a NTSC DVD (29.970 fps) and i wish to encode it with TMPG using PAL settings (25fps) can i do this? Is there any effect on the outcome of the movie?
No you Can"t well not useing just Tmpgenc...you need a program to convert the formats from NTSC to Pal...there are a few programs that can do this one is "ProCoder" and another is "Advanced NTSC/PAL converter" and none of them come cheap...But there is a AVSynth Command that is supposed to give fairly good results...
I downloaded an .avi file and it saved it in Windows Media Player format. When I try to open it in TMPPGEnc, it says it can't open. Format unsupported. What do I do? Don"t you Watch your VCD before you Burn them????you need to extract the audio from the source AVI file to a WAV file with something like "Virtual Dub" and use that as the audio source...
Got here searching for my own new 'no sound' problem. Done a few successful rips before. Now, the Video Source is an .avs file and I can see another attempt cooking as I write, with the subtitles. But in Audio Source there is nothing and I'm sure I used to be able to put in a wav file, but when I go to the folder there is no wav file just an mp2 audio (and I've not decided to buy the thing yet until I'm satisfied it will work). So, Hawaiian Heart, where the hell's me wav file gone? Have I lost a codec somewhere? And if so how do I get it back please!
I also notice that the stream type is ES Video Only. I'm sure it used to be (in the few weeks that I've been trying) System Video and Audio.
I don't have the opportunity to make any changes because it comes up automatically with DVD2SVCD program.

When I am trying to convert the Sum of All Fears dvd into mpeg, in PAL format, it says 'invalid pointer operation'. Why is this and what can i do to get it to work? Note that when converting in NTSC it works fine...
LOL...You seem misunderstand my friend...LOL
Minion is not referring to how you actually do it, but is reffering to the fact that the framerates will be different and will cause jerky playback for the one which is different to the original because TMPG does not do correct framerate conversion...LOL
