Question - TE25 - Help With Problem Using MPEG Tools No.29243
dgoldy  2002-10-11 20:46:03 ( ID:dqbeesif1oj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello, I've been using TMPGEnc for some time without any problems. I recently installed it on a new computer (AMD XP2000 and Windows XP) and it again worked fine. The only thing I've done differently is that yesterday I encoded an MPEG-2 file for the first time. Today when I tried to cut/join a different MPEG-1 file using MPEG Tools I get an error message and TMPGEnc shuts down.

Any suggestions?

Minion  2002-10-11 20:52:45 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It probably has nothing to do with the fact you encoded a Mpeg2 file the day before, the problem probably is that the Mpeg Tools are really Buggy and there isn"t anything you can do to fix then when they don"t want to work...Use a different Mpeg editor...

dgoldy  2002-10-11 20:57:20 ( ID:dqbeesif1oj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Any suggestions? Are there other good free ones?

Minion  2002-10-11 21:18:39 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Everything is free on the net, you can find a couple Mpeg editors at "h**p://w*w.apachez.net" in the tools section, like Mpeg-VCR and M2-edit pro, they are older versions but they work fine...

Question - TE25 - error message No.29239
halo_addict  2002-10-11 20:38:43 ( ID:cqn0sf/ci.g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using a Dell OptiPles GX260 2.25 Ghz with 512 Mb memory. When starting the conversion process, I receive an error stating that P3Package.dll will not load and the process will not continue. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Minion  2002-10-11 20:50:19 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK, This is a Very common Question..First make sure that all the Tmpgenc files are in the same folder and not just sitting on your desktop...then look in the Tmpgenc folder and look for a file called "P3P Package.dll" if it isn"t there then that is your problem but if it is there you can try copy and pasteing the file into the System32 folder and if that don"t work download tmpgenc again..

halo_addict  2002-10-11 21:10:46 ( ID:cqn0sf/ci.g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks! I had created a shortcut on my desktop. When I clicked on the .exe in the folder where it was extracted...it worked fine! Thanks alot!

I have the logo filter for virtual dub but this takes long because I am taking my final mpeg and going to avi with the logo on it than i gotta go back to mpeg with tmpgenc.

But you say there is a way to transfer it over to tmpgenc straight?

Can I take my original dv2 files and use those in virtuald? and cut out all these useless steps?

This is what i was doing... DVD TO D2V, D2V to MPEG, MPEG to AVI with logo than AVI TO FINAL MPEG.

Maybe I can cut out many steps and save lots of hours.

thanks
-Steve

swepeea  2002-10-11 20:30:31 ( ID:s7vybry2xsh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have converted my avi. file to mpeg using tmpgenc and i put it right on to a blank cd. As you probably guessed, it doesn't work in my dvd player. Is there something else I have to do to get the video to play? The dvd player says "bad disc"? I could really use some help from some nice person, I would love to get this thing working. Thanks in advance for any advice. -Patrick

Hi there, tmpgenc on help you to encode but not burning VCD. If you need more help, you can check in the 'http://www.vcdhelp.com' website which show the steps from converting avi file to burning VCD/SVCD/DVD. Check it out and browse around the website. It helps alot.

Minion  2002-10-11 20:47:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well it probably has to do with how you burned it to disk...What did you use??You have to use a Program specificly designed to burn vcd/svcd"s like Nero or VCDEasy, you can"t just burn it to a CD-r as a data cd and have it play...

Question - TE25 - Please Help!!!!! No.29218
David Cham  2002-10-11 19:49:37 ( ID:/ltlglwfcqm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I would like you guys to help me out. I'm not sure where's my problem is. Please advice. I use VirtualDub to change the audio to wav file. Then i use TMPGEnc to encode and everything seem to be ok without any message popping out. After complete encoding, I use Nero Burner to Burn the CD. Everything seem to be ok during the burning process. But went the VCD complete burning, i try it on my DVD player and also my laptop. The audio seem to be find but the picture doesn't play as smooth as the original file for the whole show (Can't see the picure nicely like playing a movie in the internet (300kbps) using 128kbps broadband speed). I'm not sure what happen where i just follow the instruction on 'AVI to VCD MPEG' and 'How to make VCD with Nero 5.5+'. Please advice whether its the encoding problem or nero burning problem and also the step to overcome the problem. Thanks in advance.

Minion  2002-10-11 20:45:14 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You didn"t really explain the problem very well but i"ll try to throw some tips at you....First you have to encode the file to the same frame rate as the source file you you will get Jumpy playback on yer DVD Player..Look at the Mpeg file after encodeing it and see if it is a problem with the Mpeg file of with nero..

David Cham  2002-10-11 22:31:13 ( ID:a1p.mwbwfh. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I think my frame rate is correct in Tmpgenc and also Nero. This is my AVI Information.

This is all the information that i can provide. I think my problem is what you call jecky playback but i don't know where is my mistake is. Everything seems to be find until completion of burning process. Please tell me where my mistake is and tell me what should i do to overcome this problem. Thanks in advance.

Minion  2002-10-12 08:37:13 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well It looks like you have the proper settings in Tmpgenc, unless the field order is incorrect but that really doesn"t degrade the Quality per sey as much as it is anoying to watch cuz of the jumpyness when there is a Lot of motion..If it is a Blocky Picture with a Lot of stray piXels floating around then that could just be the Crapy Quality of a standard Bitrate VCD..If you think it could be the field order You can find out what the correct field order is by Loading the file in the WiZard(plus version?)and tmpgenc should pop up with a Dialog saying "Judgeing Field Order" then underneath it will change it to the correct Setting...but if it is just Crappy quality you can try raiseing the Bitrate...

David Cham  2002-10-12 11:03:12 ( ID:7jd2qlyfokm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So, where can i find this wizard (plus version) software so that i can try to correct the setting for the field order. What's the full name of this software?

What speed are you burning the disk.
If the speed is too high you will get playback problems.

Does the original MPEG brfore burning play ok on your PC and does the VCD only jerk on your DVD player or does it do it on your PC also.

ASHY

David Cham  2002-10-13 11:28:31 ( ID:7jd2qlyfokm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi Ashy, I living in a NTSC country. After burning the VCD, I tried both playing on my TV and even on my laptop and the effect is still the same. I think my problem is what Minion said 'Blocky picture with a lots of stray pixel around'. My anime movie has a lot of small blocky thing arounsd the screen. My anime in AVI file looks great when i play the movie (I don't think is the quality of the anime). Is it the birate problem? If i burn VCD, i can't increase the birate. Do i need to burn SVCD to get the picture right? I'm just wondering about the video source. Do i need to change it or just stick with 1:1 VGA. Some instruction uses 1:1 VGA and some changes it to 4:3 525 line (NTSC). Please advice......

ASHY  2002-10-13 21:34:58 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm getting sort of confused as to ur problem here.

What exactly is the problem?
Is just that the picture quality isn't as good as the original or are you experiencing jerky playback problems?

If it is simply a quality problem then I'm afraid this is just the nature of VCD. Standard VCD to be honest is not that good.
If you want higher quality you will need to increase the bitrate or you could try encoding to SVCD, but your DVD player may not support it.

David Cham  2002-10-14 01:03:52 ( ID:7jd2qlyfokm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sorry Ashy, I sorry if i confuses you with such a question. I tried to burn a VCD and i have no problem during the process. I'm not sure it is called jecky playback or 'blocky picture with a lot of stray piXels floating around' which minion said. When i try to play it on my DVD player, the picture have lots of small boxes around the screen and some times don't. Is this where you'll call 'blocky picture with a lot of stray piXels floating around'? If yes, then should i change burning VCD to SVCD so i can get better quality? Please advice....

ASHY  2002-10-14 08:00:42 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Right ok, I see your problem.

The problem is the bitrate which VCD uses and frankly isn't high enough to give a quality picture without blocks.
These blocks are called macroblocks and mainly appear in high motion scenes which need a high bitrate. Because of the low bitrate of VCD the bitrate isn't high enough to cope with the detail and action scenes which xauses a blocky picture.

To remedy this you can either up the standard bitrate until the blocks appear or use a VBR encoding method which will allow you to fit a higher bitrate movie on to a CDR but while keeping the file size reasonable.

I am sending you some templates to use which will give you a much better quality picture and will allow you to fit at least 100mins on to 2 80 min cdr's.

Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble converting a movie i downloaded on the web (twice), each time i tried the convertion stopped at 99% with an error (write error occured at adress 004028A9 of module 'TEMPENC.EXE' with 009006C0)

I noticed the file name ends up with .DVDrip.VITE could it be i need to change a setting in the environmental setting or maybe am missing a codec?

Can anyone help please?
thanks in advance.

Well If it stoped at 99% then it should be done encodeing anyways...Can you play the file that you encoded???

Nope the file is not playing and window media player is only showing a question mark instead of a running time next to a black screen. Very frustrating after 5 hours of converting. :)

thanks for your answer.

The file can still be fixable...Maybe....the last part of encodeing is were Tmpgenc writes the Header and the sequence end code and that is were the crash probably happened so you can try to load the file into the multiplex and just run it through and it might correct the problem with the incomplete header...

I'm sorry i probably sound like the beginner i am :D
The multiplex and simple mulitplex look for MPG files so i guess it's the converted file that doesn't work i need to load there isn't it?

In any case thank you for sticking with me in my present perillious adventure :D

When I convert my avi files(divx) to VCD(PAL) I get a lot of red places over the picture. Not full time but they vary time by time.
I use tmpg with default setings (setings what it's put whwn I start it with wizard).
Can anyone teach me if I am doing something wrong.

PS! I have AMD +1800 with >500 MB ram and 64MB video.

There are @ things you can try..First make sure you do not have the "Angel Potion"Codec, it can cause discoloration in Tmpgenc encoded files, if you do have it delete it...another thing that might help is to raise the "Direct show file reader" in the Vfapi Plugins, go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct show" to "2"...

ASHY,
Go through the BBS for about 4 hours, I noticed what you said in Topic No.27747, 13841, etc about comparing CCE and TMPG. My questions is:
1. As of CCE, I use BitrateView to check encoded MPEG-2 file and found it is always upper field first, no matter what I set CCE's corresponding item. Is that normal?
2. I used to use TMPG to encode avi(PAL DV for home video) to dvd with CQ70@8000*2000 no padding@10bits@High Quality;
I/P/B/GOP=1/3/2/15;
Q.Matrix=default and no check on "No Motion Search...by half pixel";
and audio=wav@1536.
Typically on DVD-R can hold 90 minutes. Do you have any commens on my settings?
3. You said CCE produce better pricture quality than TMPG. In terms of the settings above, can CCE still make difference?
Regards

Minion  2002-10-11 21:15:26 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The advantage that CCE has over tmpgenc is that it can produce Mpeg2 files with better Quality with a lower bitrate than tmpgenc and it is MUCH faster than Tmpgenc ,up to 5 times faster..but CCE has a LOT of disadvantages like it doesn"t have many filters, and doesn"t resize the resolution for SVCD/VCD compliance and you need a external multiplexor the join the audio and video streams and the Mpeg1 Quality for CCE isn"t as good as Tmpgenc, and CCE costs 40 times as much..But the good thing is that you can easily overcome these Problems by frame serveing to CCE and there are many ways to do it, with AVISYnth, Virtual Dub,the Vfapi converter, and the Link2 tool...But CCE does have a problem with the field order,so it is best Not to put a check in the "Upper field First" box cuz all CCE does with it is put a Flag on the header instead of adjusting the field order...

TONY  2002-10-17 08:51:28 ( ID:tcihxz3zmjn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ashy,
do you agree with minion?

ASHY  2002-10-17 21:19:44 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I agree with Minion. CCE is THE best MPEG2 encoder there is, regarding quality, once you learn how yo use it properly.
Don't get me wrong TMPG is an unbeatable MPEG1 encoder and not even CCE can match it, but for encoding MPEG2 the speed and quality of CCE can't be beaten.

CCE is commercial encoder which is used in the movie industry by proffesionals and thus has to produce top quality results and this it does.

Use identical settings in CCE as TMPG and you will see the difference CCE can make especially at low bitrates.
TMPG still has it's use though because you can use it to frameserve to CCE. Without it a lot of people wouldn't even be able to use CCE which is the annoying thing about CCE.

All that money for an encoder which doesn't even have the ability to resize an image. It's about time this simple and usually standard feature in encoders was implemented in CCE till then we'll have to use programs such as TMPG and AVIsynth or Virtualdub to frameserve to CCE.
CCE won't accept MPEGs or certain frame sizes either as the source, so even though it's quality is better it's features certainly leave a lot to be desired when compared to TMPG.

If it came down to it and somebody said I could only use one encoder and no other then there would be only once choice I could make. It would have to be TMPG because this is the only encoder which is practically capable of encoding to or from almost any format.

ASHY

I know that you can specify tooLame as an external audio processor in the external tools preferences of TMPGEnc, but can I instead use BeSweet?

What are the different external audio tools that are compatible with TMPGEnc? I can't seem to find a definitive list anywhere...

If you hold your Mouse pointer over were you load in the External Audio encoders a list of compatible encoders will pop up,but it is basicly just "Toolame and SCMPX for Mpeg audio encodeing and SCMPX and SSRC for sample rate converters..But you can encode your audio seperately with Besweet and Just Mux it with the encoded video file....

I am trying to turn a divx avi file into a vcd compatable mpeg but when i try to encode i keep getting errors that just have a bunch of random numbers listed. I think it has to do with the audio because it does not show up when i go to the screen that lets me clip the movie file. Also if i don't click the start and end of the movie in the clipping area, the movies will come up approx. 4 or 5 times the amount of frames than the actual movies are. You can try Extracting the audio to a WAV file with Virtual-Dub and use that as your audio source, the audio in DIVX files is usually Very Compressed and Tmpgenc one some systems doesn"t like to Encode Compressed audio formats..And the problem with Setting the begining and start frames with the source range or there are 2 or 3 times as many frames is usually caused by an error in the Header in the diVX file, is seems Common with Downloaded files..You might be able to correct it by makeing a Direct Stream Copy with V-Dub and encode that or use V-Dub to frame serve the file to tmpgenc...

Try rebuilding the avi index first with DivFix. Then use with Virtual Dub and TMPGE.
