Question - TE25 - strange audio glitches when merging audio & video No.23550
TJ  2002-06-18 04:18:49 ( ID:46bj.9fuigk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to merge m1v video and mp3 audio files, but after the merging, strange audio glitches appear in the sound. And the thing is, these glitches aren't completely random - there seems to be a 'rhythmic' pattern to where they appear. e.g. if there's music in the audio, and there's a drum part included, then the glitches might correspond exactly to where (some of) the kick drum beats are played. They also might appear at the same time as the regular beats of the song.

Anyone have any ideas?

Question - TE25 - Beep Tone when merging two or more clips No.23545
NT  2002-06-18 03:59:40 ( ID:aqthpebepll )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Working on Win98SE, I can only create 18mins of DV footage at a time which I will encode to mpeg 1 using TMPGEnc.

This gives me two to four mpeg 1 files to 'merge' using the MPEG Tools within TMPGEnc.

I notice that there is a beep tone at the merging point between two clips and is consistent regardless of the footage length.

I have tried it on all formats of mpeg, VCD, SVCD, MPEG-2 and the beep tone is still there.

Anyone with a fix or tweak for this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
NT

This happens when you cut or join a file in the middle of a gop,the best way for you to encode your multiple avi files is to frame serve it through "virtualdub" then you wont have to join them ,they will be joined as you encode them and you won"t be able to tell where you joined them if you do it right,You can learn more about it at "www.virtualdub.org"...

NT  2002-06-19 18:29:14 ( ID:ercka70lmyg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Downloaded VirtualDub as suggested but couldn't get it to recognize the DV-AVI files that I am working with.

Just for info, I am using MSP6.5 and the files are DV Type-1.

Thanks for any info or help that you may provide.

Cheers!

Question - TE25 - Problem With a Real Media File No.23542
InoMan  2002-06-18 03:49:03 ( ID:aj8hnowedyj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey, I have a couple Real Media Files that won't open, when I try to open them I get the error message, "Invalid MetaFile" Or "Unsupported Document" I have tried to open them in a whole bunch of different programs, but none of them work. Is there anyway to fix this problem?

Thanks

Minion  2002-06-18 05:56:35 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Real media is not supported in tmpgenc , you will need to convert the RM file to avi with something like "Trina"(I think thats what it is called)..You can find it on any search engine....

InoMan  2002-06-18 06:28:11 ( ID:aj8hnowedyj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I get the error when i try to open them in RealPlayer, when I try to convert them to AVI it wont work, which is probably related to the errors that I receive.

Question - TE25 - Resize MPEG from 16:9 to 4:3 without re-encode No.23540
Tiezo  2002-06-18 02:12:46 ( ID:jl4hepmkmrr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there!!

Is there any way of resizing a mpeg-1 file from 16:9 to 4:3 without having to re-encode?....

ASHY  2002-06-18 16:36:03 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Depends on where you wish to play the file. If you only intend to play it on the PC then DVMPEG has a tool which can change the aspect ratio of an MPEG without re-encoding.

Question - TE25 - svcd 2 dvd-r help plz No.23536
orthadox  2002-06-18 01:44:12 ( ID:mk8pw3dua56 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok ive been messing with alot of programs. i can make a perfect svcd film with tmpgenc plus. but want to put the svcd to dvd-r. i know its possible, but need to know how, and what programs are needed. ive tryed mydvd and it sucks

plz help

Minion  2002-06-18 03:23:14 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is no differance between dvd and svcd formats accept the resolution and the headers, so what you can try is to take your svcd file and remove the svcd headers by loading it into the "merge and cut" and chooseing the "mpeg2/vbr"setting and then choose your output then click run ,it will then make a copy of your file but with out the svcd headers, then you can burn it in "Nero" useing the dvd option...I don"t see why this would not work, accept that the audio might not work cuz i think that dvd audio has to be 48000hz...

orthadox  2002-06-18 10:43:57 ( ID:ol8kjd69dtn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok ive redone the svcd file as you said, but what options do i use in nero(dvd) to burn to the dvd-r. Surely i cant just drag and drop the mpeg2 file. does it not all need converted into .vob files and stuff. Is there a good program that will convert a mpeg2 file to audio_ts and video_ts that seems to be what it asks for. Please help with some detailed explantaion of how to put svcd to dvd-r with out having to encode the mpeg using a dvd template in tmpgenc. Spruceup sort of worked. but there must be a better way to do it.

TIA

Question - TE25 - ISO Question. No.23535
User  2002-06-18 01:09:35 ( ID:xaagdma.afc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I was wondering what ISO meant when it says "CD-R 700MB (ISO)" in the Unknown Media function. I chose the 700MB ISO version when I decided to encode the avi into an mpg. I've had some burning trouble because the minutes on the movie was over 80 minutes and the burning program would not burn it. I've had other questions posted regarding this problem, so if someone could help me on that I would really appreciate it. I believe it's titled "Please help!!! Big burning problem!!!" Was it correct to choose this function (700MB ISO)?

Question - TE25 - wmv -> mpeg-2 : memory leaks? No.23527
amm  2002-06-18 01:09:11 ( ID:egxftwr3fzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

system: 900MHz Athlon AMD-751 256MB W2K-sp2 tmpgenc 2.54

Tried to transcode 2 hour wmv stream (WMV: V7 YUY2 352x480 3Mb/s, WMA: V8 44,1Kb/s stereo 96Kb/s) to mpeg-2 (DVD-NTSC template). [Also tried more reasonable mpeg-2 templates with same outcome].

Used the admin. counters to monitor paging and memory use. It seems to me that memory is consumed fast. At 8% (10% using RamBooster) already ~1GB of swap-file space was used. The end result is always an "out of memory" message.

Q:
1) Am I the only one observing this phenomenon?
2) Am I doing something wrong?
3) Are there any fixes/patches or work-arounds?

thanks

Minion  2002-06-18 03:16:49 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have never heard of this problem but this is just a thought ,maybe cuz you are encodeing wmv files,Tmpgenc does not seem to fully support wmv files when ever I try to encode wmv files after about 10 or 15 minutes of encoded wmv it would either freeze up on me or I would get any number of errors, have you tried to encode a different format? like avi files? see if it works fine with avi files on your system then it could be because of the wmv format, just a thought.....

ASHY  2002-06-18 16:38:20 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Increasing the virtual memory to maximum should help.

amm  2002-06-20 14:59:00 ( ID:egxftwr3fzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To Minion:
Yes, I tried other formats (like avi) and they work fine. It is definitely a problem of importing wmv files into tmpgenc.

To Ashy:
Yes, increasing virtual memory will prevent --- sometimes --- "out of memory" messages: For the previous example I would have to increase the swap-file in theory to ~10GB --- + some extra to prevent any weird system crashes ---. The problem is that ix86 architectures have an address space of 32b (4GB).
Not to mention, that increased disk access leads to slower transcoding.

thanks

ASHY  2002-06-20 21:43:37 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There may be a limit of 4096 gb as you say but nothing is stopping you from creating more than swap file. In theory it could be as large as you want it.

That should be 4096 mb not gb.

Ugnore the daft typos above and read this instead, it may make more sense.

jft1469  2002-06-17 22:16:42 ( ID:ovf7padfuoa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

converted the file OK, but when i play the movie in media player, the picture is upside down?

Minion  2002-06-18 00:40:19 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That could be media player , Do NOT use media player to view mpeg files cuz it sucks for mpeg files and you will allways think you have problems with your files cuz media player does not play them correctly, use dvd playing software like "power dvd" and you will probably find that it is fine..

Do you want to use tmpgenc as a plugin for premier? or do you just want to encode files made by premier?

Question - TE25 - Video, No Audio! No.23519
doja_01  2002-06-17 22:00:51 ( ID:y0cv6nkdwhf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've been creating VCD's from .avi files frequently lately, and I've come across a new movie that will have sound in .avi format, but not when it's encoded to mpeg. The audio format is MPEG layer-3. I've tried de-multiplexing the file, and converting the audio file to wav and mp3, but I still can't hear any sound when i play the converted files in winamp. Can you help me find an audio format that will play in a vcd-compatible dvd player?
Thanks.
Chris

Minion  2002-06-18 00:36:52 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The only audio format that is compatible with vcd players is mp2, you can either extract your audio to wav and then encode it with your video with tmpgenc or you can extract the audio from your avi and encode it to mp2 then multiplex it to your mpeg video file,"db power amp" encodes to mp2 and it is free....

Muesli  2002-06-18 10:14:55 ( ID:ttouhlu0nwg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,
i've got the same problem but i detected the reason... sorry Minion, but you didn't answer the question of doja_01, because the question was 'why is there no audio after converting any AVI with MP3 audio source to MPG'... But back to the problem. TMPGENC can not convert MP3 audio streams which are encoded with VBR. Because of the missing time scale (the base for calculating the output stream) TMPGENC simply does not know how to handle this situation and just does not encode audio at all. Maybe including an external MP3 encoder (such as LAME) may solve the problem, but i didn't try myself (maybe this weekend, i'll let you know what happened).
I hope this will help a little bit...

Greetings

Question - TE25 - Syncing Audio and Video for VCD No.23517
Digital  2002-06-17 19:42:03 ( ID:ji0iso.mzbc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello Everybody,

I've had considerable problems getting audio and video to sync coming from DVD's. The sound is delayed a second or two so what you see is the person's mouth move and then a sec or so later, words come. How do I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Minion  2002-06-18 03:10:03 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

All I do is dvd rips and i have never had sync problems , well not never when I preview my files in "media player" then the sound is out of sync, but in "power dvd" they are in perfect sync so if you use media player to watch or preview your mpeg files then try dvd playing software cuz media pplayer is notorius for giveing incorrect playback of mpeg files especialy sync problems. but if it turns out that your files are really out of sync then you can use sortware like "bbmpeg" or "mpeg2vcr" it has a multiplexor that will allow you to sync up the audio to your video while multiplexing......

Question - TE25 - Big dvdr question for Ashy and others plz help... No.23514
orthadox  2002-06-17 18:06:03 ( ID:mk8pw3dua56 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ok here goes. Ive bought myself a dvd-rw burner. What i want to do is, i have a large selection of .avi films, and i want to use TMPGENc Plus to make a mpeg2 file that i can put to DVD-RW media. Basically i know how to make a perfect svcd from an .avi file that will fit onto 2 cd-r media, with perfect sync (thanks to Ashy) and thats using a modified svcd template, and a few other programs. Ive also tryed putting the svcd file to the dvd-rw with nero, which worked but the picture was messed at the start for about 5 seconds, and there was an audio click at the start also which lasted about 10 seconds.
Ive noticed DVD templates in TMPGENc plus, should i be using 1 of those ? If so in what way? and will they make the conversion better quality.

So a few questions
1) Is it possible to put a perfect svcd to dvd-rw.
2) Would i be better to use the DVD templates.
3) DVD audio should be 48Hz yes ?
4) What way should i burn the finished file to te dvd-rw?
Nero ? or make a image of the finished file and burn it to the dvd-rw in some way ?
5) If i use the dvd templates in TMPGENc what extra settings should i select after unlocking the loaded template?
6) Do i need any other software?

Ive probably missed alot of questions. But if anyone can please help it would be great.

winman42  2002-06-17 23:18:16 ( ID:d09kuz2ebql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK, what model DVD-RW unit di u get? I assume it also does DVD-R?

1. Yes
2. Yes, u need to convert to dvd standard, with the DVD templates
3. dvd audio is 48khz
4. I use Ulead DVD Workshop to burn my files, becuase i like to
make fancy menus, motion buttons, backing music, etc.
5. check this link, for info on settings you can adjust in TmpGenc,
when making DVd titles. http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0165394101/TMPGEnc_Template.html

6. Nope, you dont 'NEED' anything else, but it would be nice to get
something else, if u intend to make menus, etc.

Winston

orthadox  2002-06-18 00:34:31 ( ID:mk8pw3dua56 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok ive tryed all that but to get a high quality picture, it seems there is not enough room on the dvd-r. and if i select a lower quality the picture looks crap.
So onto a new question. I used spruceup to put a svcd to a dvd-r, the film was 1hour 40mins long and there was loads of room left on the dvd-r, but spruceup is not very user frienly and a few bugs appeared at the start if the dvd-r, but the quality was very high. Is it possible to use ulead dvd workshop to put a svcd to dvd-r. or what program would be best to use.
