for some reason, when i encode a file, it just go slow as hell.

the problem is that it only hapen with this file, i have try other, and it doesn't take nearly as long.

when i go into task manager, what i see there is tmpgenc: not responding. but after every 15 secs or so, it runing again, and then back to not responding.

then when i finally finish encode the file to .mpg (take about 20 hrs) it play for about 15 mins into the movies, then i just stop. the audio keep goin all the way to the end, but the frame freeze all the way.

anyone can help??

The problem is that you probably downloaded this file off the "net" and a lot of files that are downloaded from places like "kaaza" are corrupted.There isn"t much you can do accept try to make a copy of the file with "virtua dub" but it might choke on it to...good luck

I'm trying to convert an AVI file to MPEG, so i can burn it to Video CD. No errors occur. When i run the MPEG file i get great picture but NO sound!!

I have tried using both MPEG layer 1 and 2 for the audio but with no luck...

Anyone got any good ideas?

The audio format in your avi file probably not compatible with "tmpgenc" so extract the audio from your avi file with "virtua dub" and convert it to "wav" and load that file in tmpgenc and encode it then "multiplex" the audio and your video together..

what programs will extract ac3 from video and leave it as is, and or convert it to wave? thanx

Go to a search engine and look for "ac3 decoder" this program will do the job..

I am capturing with a DC10+ and Pinnacle Studio 7AV software. I am getting an error "can not open or unsupported". Changing the priority of directshow is not working for me. The proper codec must be installed because my windows media player can open the file with no problem. My version is 2.53.35.130. I am running on a Windows 2000, P4, 512Mb Ram.

First thing "media player "uses external codecs,and "tmpgenc" is only compatible with certain types of "dv"it works with "video for windows" and "open dml" but it is best to use un-compressed avi for best quality with "dv"....

If my encoded file (MPEG2 SVCD using tmpgenc) is still to big for a 80min cdr, ¿how I can reduce the size?, ¿maybe re-enconded again?, but how I do that ,if tmpgenc can´t open the MPEG2 file?

you can only get about 45min of svcd/mpeg2 in a 80min disk with any sort of quality,but if you want to get more and don"t care about quality just lower the bitrate, but don"t encode the svcd encode the original avi but if you deleted the avi file, you will have to "de-multiplex" the mpeg2 and load in your files seperately,but I think you will need thw "mpeg2" plugin for "tmpgenc" you can use the "vfapi converter" to turn your svcd into a psudo-avi file and load that into "tmpgenc".....

I would like to make a DVD with PCM sound. How can I do this with TMPG?

You can"t with this program but some authoring software will let you do it.Your file size will be huge with "pcm" like over a gig on an 1.5 hour movie, why do you have an avertion to useing mp2 or ac3?

They are classical music DVD's and PCM has more weight to the sound. Can you mention some applications that allow PCM sound tracks?

Have you tried "Dolby Digital ac3" it is the format used in most dvd"s?There are some high end authoring programs that allow for "pcm" I"m not totally sure about this but I think "Sonic dvdit PE" allows for pcm but you would have to check it out, but I know "Scenerist" does but You might have to sell your house to buy it, you would have to check out some authoring programs,I don"t think PCM is that common on dvd..

I believe that ULead's DVD Workshop accepts PCM files, but keep in mind that DVDs want 48KHz sample rate vs 44.1KHz or other. The prog is pricey at $300 but you get a 30 day trial period--it has a great built-in encoder BTW.

Compressing via AC3 is very hard to do--you need the $1000 SoftEncode program or <an even more expensive> hardware encoder licensed by Dolby Labs.

When i try to cut a large mpg into two smaller ones, the audio is out of sync by a quarter second, makes for some psychedelic viewing but it's not what i'm going for. Any suggestions?

Use the source range to encode your movies then you won"t have to cut them, or use different editing software.....

When I download a pristine quality file and then try to convert from Mpeg4 to MPEG2 I seem to lose a tremendous amount of picture quality...I have had the bitrate as high as 6500 but still it comes out hazy and jerky....Does anyone have a suggestion? Yeah, and that's wrong... You need to know the exact parameters from the AVI and you must use a REAL PAL-NTSC-Conversation, which TMPGEnc is not able to do. You have to use AviSynth to do that.
By the way: if you convert an DivX-Movie, it's always better to use Half-D1 (352x480) instead auf Full-D1.

Is AVIsynth a shareware or free program? also what do you mean real parameters?

When I convert an avi with the rpogram Avi 2 VCD it works fine in my dvd. But now I have tried converting with TMPGenc and i don't get no image in my dvd player. So obviously It is not my player that is the problem what am I doing wrong. I am using these parametersaudio 44100 stereo 224 kbits video 352 x 240 29.97 hz. Oh also I am using nero burning to burn my vcd files. Please help cause I really like the program it is much faster then avi2vcd and I would like to use it but if only I could get an image..

Firs make sure you have all the proper codecs, then make sure that your "direct show" plugin has a high enough priority.....And watch your movies before you burn them.......

I have been merging and cutting avi files for some time now however I seem to have problems if I have to cut the file more than twice, for example:
I have a 1846 meg file(converted to mpeg), and in order to put it on vcd I have to cut it into 3. The first two work great but the third just won't go????/

This is a long standing problem with the "merge & cut" feature and there is no way that I know to fix it,accept get different editing software..but in the future use the source range feature to edit your movies and you won"t have to worry about the "mpeg tools"....

When I am encoding the file at 98% I receive the following error: Index of scan line is out of range (144) What am I doing wong?

You are probably doing nothing wrong but there is probably something wrong with your avi file. you can encode the last 2% then join the 98% with the 2% in mpeg tools without much problem...

Has anyone tried the new online ordering system? At least they list a customer support email address.

You have just not spent enough time to read contents of purchase/buy and other pages.

I have emailed EVERY address I could find on the pegasys-inc site and the tmpgenc.net site and not received ANY reponse.

I have spent SEVERAL HOURS searching for email addresses on those sites!!!! I have retraced the ordering process up to the last submit looking for email addresses.

There is NO email address clearly listed as a "customer service" address. Only business sales and some mysterious "zeroweb" (well named) address. These produced NO response.

This forum is a last resort before going through the pain of disputing the charge!

Once my charge is reversed, I will test for response from customer service at the new site BEFORE placing an order.
