Question - TE25 - Encoding Duration No.22125
ME  2002-05-28 15:09:03 ( ID:jklnaeppa/f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

how do i speed up the encoding speed? it take's so long...

ASHY  2002-05-28 15:24:03 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How long?

ASHY

Magic  2002-05-28 15:41:46 ( ID:cnlnyv2c5c2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Get a faster computer! ;-)

Seriously, as ASHY asked; how long is it taking? Also do you know what processor you have?

You can lower the movement prediction setting to encode faster, but you'll lower the quality if you do.

1 hour of film typically takes me 4 hours on my P3-450 at the default settings for VideoCD(PAL) and if I put movement prediction up to the highest quality setting it can take twice as long. I think that I'm getting pretty good encoding speeds for my processor power.

Question - TE25 - Subtitles No.22122
Novice  2002-05-28 14:54:24 ( ID:bdkmc1uvltk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

TMPEnc is a great software but is it true that you are not able to add subtitles into the movies with TMPEnc?
If it's not true how do I do it?
And if it's true can anyone tell me how I'm able to do it then and with what?

M.Chan  2002-05-28 15:11:23 ( ID:jklnaeppa/f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To add subtitles, you have to edit the video and add text with video editing software. That's how I add subtitles anyway, there could be other methods but that's all I know...

ASHY  2002-05-28 15:21:43 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You could do it with Virtualdub.
There is a plugin you can use with virtual dub which will add subtitles to the AVI, which you can then frameserve to TMPG.

Question - TE25 - 4:2:2 encoding in PLUS? No.22119
John Mitchell  2002-05-28 13:55:26 ( ID:truugaj2adw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there -

I'm just evaluating TMPGenc PLUS (15 day trial)- but I can't get one of the features to activate. I want to encode at full 4:2:2 (8 bit) as opposed to 4:2:0. The comparison chart seems to indicate this is a feature of TMPGenc PLUS - but it's greyed out - exactly the same as in the free version of TMPGenc.

The .AVI I'm supplying is definitely full 4:2:2 (Avid AVI 2.02D (MJPEG codec))

This would be my one reason for buying this over my existing compression software (Cleaner 5) - so I'm keen to hear whether this feature actually works... and if so why it's not working for me.

Thanks

John

ASHY  2002-05-28 14:14:38 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Firstly you need to encode to MPEG2. Then you will need to unlock the settings if you have chosen a template, as the template automatically locks the settings, so they can't be changed accidentally.

To unlock, click 'Load' and find the 'Extra' folder inside your templates folder. Here you will find a file called 'unlock.mcf'.
Double click it and the settings will unlock.

Question - TE25 - Nero/EZCD Creator reports errors with MPG Files created with TMPGEnc No.22116
Chris Cox  2002-05-28 13:19:55 ( ID:0w1asy2eap6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi There.

I am sure that someone has also found the following problem. I have made some MPG files from original DVDs using the guides located on www.vcdhelp.com, (using SmartRipper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc) with success. However, when I try to make a VCD with either Nero or EZCDcreator 5, I am informed that the MPG files do not meet the White book standard.

Both Nero and Roxio report different reasons, but I guess they are different interpretations of the same thing. Nero reportsthat the "stream encoding is invalid for a Video CD", whereas Roxio reports that the "System Clock reference" is 1058 and that this is unnacceptable and the file will not play in a VCD player.

Can anyone offer any insights into what both programs are referring to and how to correct it in TMPGEnc before converting the DVD to MPG.

Thanks in advance.

ASHY  2002-05-28 13:42:03 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You have most probably created a non standard VCD.
VCD needs to be MPEG1 352x240 at 29.97 fps or 352x288 at 25 fps.
If these are the specifications of your file then you have most probably split the file using the Merge&Cut feature and haven't chose 'MPEG-1 Video CD' as the stream type from the dropdown menu.

The solution is to load the spilt files into the 'simple multiplexer' choose 'MPEG-1 Video CD' as the type and give your output a different name if you are putting the file in the same folder as the original.
Now click 'run' and your file should load fine in Nero.

Tip: Get rid of that crap Roxio, you will have all sorts of problems with it.

UnregistereD  2002-05-31 12:17:08 ( ID:er3dl041q9h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had the same problem encoding SVCD MPEGs. Some files were okay, some gave this error in Nero. I followed this guide: http://www.vcdhelp.com/bbmpegedit.htm

Although it's written for SVCD, I'm (almost) sure it works on VCD also.

Good luck !

Question - TE25 - Failed to create device context No.22111
Martin  2002-05-28 10:25:25 ( ID:kcdnecyv4rg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I try to convert a MPEG Stream into a VCD MPEG Stream.
Normally it works fine. Today the program created the error message:
Failed to create device context

What does this mean???

Cheers, Martin

Minion  2002-05-28 22:36:35 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How are you converting your mpeg files into vcd mpeg files, are you encodeing them or just putting on new headers?

Martin  2002-05-29 14:40:50 ( ID:gutqj2tsxm2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I do that by encoding them new, because this bitrate from the original MPEG is to high.

Cheers, Michael

Minion  2002-05-29 22:13:35 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There are a couple things you can try ,they both involve frame serveing, you can frame serve from dvd2avi, or what would be quicker is to frame serve from the "vfapi converter",I frame serve all my movies from the vfapi converter" with exelent results, if you use the vfapi converter ,first extract the audio from your mpeg, then load your file in the vfapi converter, and make sure the audio box is NOT checked ,then click convert and it will make a psudo avi file in about 2 seconds, then load the avi and the extracted audio in "tmpgenc" ..this might be a work around to you problem.....

Martin  2002-05-30 20:25:00 ( ID:ofnqvb5ydb2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks you for your answer and idea.
On my second computer (a slow one...) i have succeded in encoding the same MPEG video with the same TMPGEnc Version.
Maybe a problem of the right codec???

Cheers Martin

Question - TE25 - Problem with opening d2v and avs files No.22108
Borax  2002-05-28 08:37:28 ( ID:sbb/mcxji2k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when i try and open a d2v file it says unsupported... if this is what the patch is for and its not working then i dont know what else to do... i have uninstalled both patch and program a couple times Plz help
-Borax

ASHY  2002-05-28 14:06:31 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Where did you get your d2v file from?
If you got it from Smartripper you still need DVD2AVI installed on your system and run it at least once.
Then copy DVD2AVI.VFP from your DVD2AVI folder to the folder where TMPGenc.exe is located.

Restart TMPG and your d2v should load.

To get the AVS loaded try increasing your 'Direct show multimedia file reader' priority higher, say 2 and lower the others to 0.
Now restart TMPG and try and load again.

ASHY  2002-05-28 19:39:07 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If that doesn't load your AVS file then disable the direct show filter and raise the priority of the other AVI filters.

Question - TE25 - Mpeg2 multiplex No.22100
citiz  2002-05-28 05:58:58 ( ID:hqxl9hqp38n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!
I'm trying to multiplex a mpeg-2 file + a mp3 file. Everything goes well except i can't hear the sound. In cyberlink dvdplayer the image plays with no sound. With media player, it's not even recognized (the orignal mpeg2 file of course plays well with each player). And the sound seem to work great with winamp...where the prob ?

citiz  2002-05-28 06:03:39 ( ID:hqxl9hqp38n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

just to complete, i tried mp3 in 128-224 and 44100h

Minion  2002-05-28 08:32:18 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Did you encode the mp3 with "tmpgenc?Do you have the proper codecs to decode the mp3 stream?was the audio there before you multiplexed the files?are you makeing a svcd?if you are svcd"s will not play in most dvd players with mp3 audio..have you tried to use mp2 audio?

ASHY  2002-05-28 12:17:06 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you already have the original audio in mp2 format then I don't see the point in converting it to mp3 and multiplexing it with the movie, for a few reasons.
1. You won't improve the quality by encoding to mp3
2. The compression is roughly the same, so it won't make a difference to the file size
3. Your movie is now incompatible with most if not all DVD players.

Anyway aside from that the reason you may be having problems could be due to the fact you don't have the required codecs installed to decode the audio in the movie correctly.

There are a few mp3 codecs you can install which should work, below is a link to one of them.

Thank you Ashy and Minion for your help. Altho i still havent fix anything.

I would have been surprised it was a mp3 codec problem since i had that codoc installed for quite a while ;) still i tried and got no luck.

Here's the story...I made some kind of movie with MGI Videowave (crappy soft,i know!). I first capture in lostless avi, then modified and max with videowave, and then chose MPEG2 as output.

Altho, the sound is too early for the images...(like 3 secs b4 images near the end of the movie)... so i extract the mp3 from the mpeg2 created by Videowave, fixed the sound problem with sound forge, and then i tried multiplexing (new mp3 file + original mpeg2) with tmpgenc. No luck the image plays in Cybrlink DVD player, but no sound. And media player doesnt even recognize the images...it looks for some codecs and dont find anything.

Then i demultiplexed the images from the mpeg with tmpgenc, it saved in m2v. and i tried multiplexing it again with m2v + mp3. Same result.

I dont want it to play on a SVCD, i just want a qualitEimages i can record on a VCR from my tv-out. After that I'll convert it to VCD. (i tried that too but every time 1-2 sequences has some kind of crack in them...weird shit)

anyway...whats the standard with mpeg2 ? mp2 ?

citiz  2002-05-29 04:03:28 ( ID:hqxl9hqp38n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

and what can i use to make mp2 ? sound forge doesnt seem to do it...

citiz  2002-05-29 04:30:17 ( ID:hqxl9hqp38n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually i need help on the VCD too ;(

A couple of times in the movie, the image hangs for 0,1 sec or something...its quick but its annoying...any idea ?

i tried hi-qual and normal mode...with tmpenc i used the mpeg 2 and fixed mp3 sound...the sound works great its the images that craps out in VCD :(

ASHY  2002-05-29 14:50:38 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok look. Stop using soundforge and mp3 in your Mpeg files.
There is a simpler way to correct A/V sync problems using the original Mp2 audio in the SVCD.

Download bbmpeg: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avi2mpg2.html
This is a guide on how to multiplex with bbmpeg.
http://www.spawns.dk/svcd/bbmpeg.htm

You are going to use bbmpegs A/V delay feature when mutiplexing to sync your movie.

Look at the instructions on how to multiplex and look at instruction 5.
At the bottom of the picture you will see a row boxes titled 'start up delay(ms)'
Using the 'Video' and 'Audio 1' boxes it is possible to add a delay to either.
Just add delay to either the audio or video depending on which needs delaying and then multiplex.

If you have deleted the original audio then you could download dbpoweramp from www.dbpoweramp.com and use this to convert your mp3 to mp2 (just make sure you download the mp2 plugin with dbpoweramp)

Question - TE25 - Frameserving from Tmpgenc to Cinema Craft 2.5 No.22096
MannaZen1  Home )  2002-05-28 05:21:56 ( ID:bretwi1a3.g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've read the details on this forum before, but I'm trouble finding it again: how can I frameserve from tmpgenc to cinema craft 2.5? Is it possible to do it as well w/ cce 2.62? Any help would be much appreciated

Minion  2002-05-28 08:14:39 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I"ll send you an email on how to do it but you will have to send me back some info on your files and what you want to do,sometimes they don"t want you to talk about other encoders here, so I don"t want to write some big thing on another encoders features and such.....

ASHY  2002-05-28 12:24:11 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You simply need to create a project file with TMPG and then convert this to a dummy AVI using the VFAPI converter.
You then open this AVI as if it was a real AVI in CCE.
CCE will then encode your movie using the filters and settings you have chosen in TMPG.
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/vfapi.html

Question - TE25 - HELP ME! No.22087
Ankho  2002-05-28 05:16:05 ( ID:kzy53zrd4ec )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Every mpeg that i try to open in tmpg says illegal mpeg. There must be a setting that i am supposed to change. Can someone please help me figure this out. Thanks in Advance.

Minion  2002-05-28 05:21:37 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The only other thing that it could be that i can think of is to make sure that you have the "mpeg2 vfapi plugin" , but if you do have it try to download another copy of "tmpgenc" cuz maybe there is a problem with it..one thing to consider is that "tmpgenc" is not gauranteed to work on mpeg"s that were made with a different encoder....

ASHY  2002-05-28 12:28:28 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is the MPEG file MPEG2 if it is you need an MPEG2 codec to open the file.
If it's MPEG1 then Minion is correct, TMPG won't open some files made with other MPEG encoding software.

There is a way to correct this. Find out if the file is MPEG1 or MPEG 2 and I wil post you the solution.

its an mpeg2
THANKS SO MUCH

ankho  2002-05-29 11:55:27 ( ID:kzy53zrd4ec )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I also installed that mpeg2 codec that was on there and it didnt solve the problem. The thing that gets me is that i have used the same programs to create the mpegs and tmpg has always had no problem with them.

ASHY  2002-05-29 14:59:31 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What program have you used to create the MPEGS?

Download this MPEG2 codec and install it.
http://www.plmovies.com/mpeg2codec_installer.zip
If your MPEG2 movie still wont open then de-multiplex it and open the Video and Audio files in TMPG separately and it should work.

If you can't load the file into the de-mutiplex option, then post back.

**I NEED TO KNOW THE SOFTWARE YOU HAVE USED TO CREATE YOUR MPEG2 FILE**
I will then give you the solution to your problem.

Rayjay  2002-05-28 05:09:22 ( ID:w29btrivx/m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Please help me

When I first encoded with tmpg encoder I got beautiful picture quality but no sound. Well how do I extract sound.
Also When I was done the file was 2.5 gigs How Am I going to burn that on a cd

Minion  2002-05-28 05:16:28 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To extract the audio you have to use "virtuldub" it is free and can be found in the tools section of "www.vcdhelp.com,..How are you going to put 2.5gb on a cd?you aren"t you have to cut it in 3 and put it on 3 cd"s, to cut it go to "file" then to "mpeg tools" then to "merge and cut".But in the future it is better to use the "source range" feature in the "advanced settings" so you can encode your move in parts so you won"t have to cut it later, cuz the cut feature has a habit of freezing up...

Ankho  2002-05-28 03:58:08 ( ID:kzy53zrd4ec )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Got another problem trying to put on a vcd header on an mpeg2 and it gets to 47% and says its done every time. I have no idea why it would do this but if anyone else has had this problem could the please help me out. THanks

Minion  2002-05-28 04:09:29 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That could be where the error in your mpeg file is..Just because you can play it in "media player" does not mean that it doesn"t have errors in it, media player will play practicly anything, if you can de-multiplex it you can try to use "bbmpeg" to multiplex it and put on the header...sory i can"t help more

When I encode, the audio track does not match the video track. I am encoding a S-VCD 'non-interlace'. Any ideas on how to get them to match would be appreciated.

Mr. S  2002-05-28 03:08:32 ( ID:2lfstschcsn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try to make sure the template your using has the same framerate aas the original file (23.94=NTSCFilm, 25=PAL, 29.97=NTSC)

Also if the original file has a viariable bitrate audio track you might want to try extracting it to a PCM wav (It'll be BIG) file with VirtualDub then set that as the audio source.

If its still not working you might have a glitch in the original file somewhere.
