Question - TE40 - encoding didn't change resolution as set for No.58320
Godiwa  2008-08-13 17:00:11 ( ID:dbndndtuo5g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I wanted to convert a 720x576 format DVD to a 720x428 format MPEG4 AVC

In "Source" I edited all the 5 clips for the movie to use a crop to remove 74 pixels from the top and the bottom and they showed fine in the program.

In the "Format" I changed the resolution accordingly but the output format is still 720x576, pretty big downer after a 4.5 hour long encode to find out the program screwed up.

Is this a known bug in the free version, or a general bug in both free/paid version? I wanted it to remove the black bars since they take up a lot of space and are useless, especially when viewed in mediaplayer in windows, making the actual movie even smaller when in full screen then when playing the DVD.

Any solutions?

I was just about to buy the full version since I like how it works, but the final trial encode messing up like that is very critical and means no purchase from my side until I have a solution to fix it, so any help is much appreciated.

Same behavior here. I have a registered version of TMPGEnc Xpress 4 and tried different codecs to ensure its not the codecs fault, but TMPGEncs...

tkrave  2008-08-14 02:27:22 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think I found a solution.

In the filter list, select the "Picture resize" filter.

Next, select "Center (custom size)" for Picture position.

Then input your desired output resolution.

In the Encode stage, click on the Preview button to see a sample of how the output will look to make sure it's bar-free.

tkrave  2008-08-14 02:39:36 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually, I may not be having the same problem as you guys; my output is always at the resolution I set it at in the Format stage.

So your output resolutions are always the same as your source resolutions, even if you change it?

What version are you guys using?

Question - TDA3 - Audio problem with DVD on PS3 No.60673
sarge_in  2008-08-12 22:29:09 ( ID:ucmo3982gff )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I created a compilation of chapters from few different (non-encrypted) DVD's and burnt it to a DVD (all from the DVD Author tool). When I play the DVD in PS3 with Audio Settings as Linear PCM (under BD/DVD Settings), I am get crackling sound. Feels as if the bass is not getting reproduced properly.

However if I switch the PS3 audio setting to "Bitstream", the audio plays fine and smooth.

Is there any setting in DVD Author that I can tweak so it works fine with LinearPCM mode as well?

Thanks!

tkrave  2008-08-13 01:59:06 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can try changing the audio settings for your tracks to Linear PCM.
In the Source Stage, click on "Settings" for your track(s). This opens the track settings window.
Go to the Audio Settings tab.
In the drop-down for Audio 1 (and Audio 2 if necessary), select "Re-encode as below if necessary" or "Re-encode all as below".
For the audio stream format you can now change it to Linear PCM.

I haven't tested any of this, but it seems like this should work. I'm also not sure how linear PCM audio will work with the bitstream setting on the PS3.

sarge_in  2008-08-20 23:19:48 ( ID:ucmo3982gff )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks!

I was sceptical to try the LPCM alternative, as being uncompressed, it would probably have made the file larger.

However upon some more playing around I realized that the crackling was happening because I set the PS3 volume level to max (+2). This affects only the LPCM mode only, as in case of Bitstream the PS3 volume level has no effect. When I reduced the level a bit I wa able to get the sound I was expecting. Actually the base was still somewhat weaker than Bitstream, but that is probably because of different DACs in PS3 vs the Onkyo receiver that decodes bitstream.

Question - TE40 - output size too big No.58317
hollowed454  2008-08-09 23:41:29 ( ID:zl/y/myayr. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello I'm new to TMPGenc 4.0 Xpress. First program of this nature I've used. I uploaded a movie left it as it is because I just wanted it to be converted from AVI to Mpeg. However it ran out of space doing the movie because the out put size was 50G!? Is there some way to change that? I mean the original size was only at 700mb. All I did was load the file in and changed the output format to mpeg. any ideas?

tkrave  2008-08-11 22:52:47 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What are the attributes of your avi file? Resolution? Framerate? Codec used?

What settings do you see for the MPEG output (in the Format stage)?

That's quite a large leap in filesize, but it's hard to say why it's doing that with so little information.

Question - TDA3 - How to make a (*.subtitle) file? No.60669
GOGO!  2008-08-09 09:28:07 ( ID:nuvr0tym2tg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a set of subtiltes (idx & sub ) ripped from DVD.
I read the User Manual that mentioned those messages as below:
List: (Subtitles list)
Contains the current subtitle stream text. Subtitles imported from a DVD-Video are displayed in a graphical format instead of text, so they do not appear in this list.

Import subtitles (I)
Displays a standard file selector where you can choose the subtitles files (*.subtitle) you wish to load in the Subtitles list.

Please tell me how to transfer sub to *.subtitle for TDA, Thanks a lot!

GOGO!  2008-08-16 18:18:57 ( ID:nuvr0tym2tg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I got it!
Because TMPGEnc DVD Author also supports DVD-Video files (VIDEO-TS.ifo) as input files。
About making a (*.subtitle) file, you can surf this page for details:

But when I use TMPGEnc DVD Author 3, when i add created MPEG2 file it informed: "Could not open the video part of the file. Only the audio part can be opened". The details of the MPEG2 file: MPEG2 Video 720x480 (16:9) 29.97fps 5288Kbps [Video], Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz stereo 224Kbps [AC-3]. Thanks for any help.

[MPEG file reader].
Try this! Will be OK!

Question - TDA3 - Menu Layout No.60663
Michael  2008-08-06 03:30:21 ( ID:mj6jtm1vlfg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would like to setup my menus with the following layout.

Top menu has play and chapter buttons/links.

Then a page of the different chapters linked to the chapter button.

I do not wish to have to select track then goto chapters.

Thanks for your assistance.

tkrave  2008-08-06 18:49:48 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So you only want two pages: the top menu and a page showing all the chapter thumbnails?

Just construct your DVD so it only has one track (put all your clips into one track).

Next, you have two choices:
1) Create the menu with top and track menus, select the appropriate layout and it should work as you want it to.

2) Or, select the "Create a Title page in the Track menu" option in the Menu Wizard. Then when choosing the DVD menu structure setting, select "Track menu only".

Of course, all your clips will play one after the other since they are in the same track, but if you don't want to select tracks, then this is your only option.

Question - TE40 - Clip Name No.58308
TD  2008-08-04 18:13:14 ( ID:ra54zhw1zgr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am having a problem with the batch conversion.
It often tells me that the clip name is duplicate without specifying what the duplicate is.
All source files have unique file names.
From what I've realized, it tried to name the output files based on the clip name but not on the original filename.
Version 3 did not do that, it would output the same filename as the source file.

How can I correct this?

Thanks

tkrave  2008-08-04 19:02:14 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not sure how that's happening if all of your source files have unique names since 4.0 Xpress will put the original file name in the new file name.

You might be getting the error if your output folder is the same as your input folder (where the source files are located) and the format extensions are the same.

In any case, you can change the naming settings when you are dealing with multiple video output so that they are named from the original file name.

Click on the Options button and select "preferences..."
In the preferences window, select "Output folder/file settings."
There should be radio buttons and options on how files will be named when there is multiple file output.
Select the last option (Clip name.Extension) to keep the names the same as the original.

TD  2008-08-05 01:26:41 ( ID:ra54zhw1zgr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That is exactly what I have: clipname.extension

Output is saved in a different folder.

What happens is that TMPGEnc somehow uses some internal tag (sort of like id3 tag for mp3 files) which is the output filename based on.

For example, I have 2 video segments: video1.mpg and video2.mpg

I want to batch encode them into 2 separate avi files.
Somehow both of them are given a tag "Video".

TMPGEnc will recognize both files as having the same name which is "Video".
In version 3 the same scenario will give me 2 files - video1.avi and video2.avi
TMPGEnc 4 will try to create video.avi, and hence, will give me the duplicate clip error.
If I have just a couple of files, I right click on the source and select clip name. There I change it.
But if I have many files, that becomes an unnecessary nuisance, especially because version 3 with exactly the same settings gives the correct output.

The only reason I don't want to stay with 3 because 4 provides superb quality and does not require confirming every single file added to the batch.

tkrave  2008-08-05 02:13:56 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, mine works exactly as you describe how TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress works.

For example, I input 3 similar clips: dnd01.mpg, dnd02.mpg, dnd03.mpg.
I don't have to change anything; no renaming of the clip name since it's already the same as the source file name.
And when I output, they become dnd01.avi, dnd02.avi, dnd03.avi.

So when you add your files, the clip names are automatically renamed to "video" and that's why you have to change the clip name?

What version of 4.0 XPress are you using?

TD  2008-08-05 06:39:11 ( ID:ra54zhw1zgr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, that's exactly what is happening.
Unless a tag does not exist, it will use it as the output filename, for some reason.

So, for example the file "Video of my family on a picnic.mpg" does not mean my output will be "Video of my family on a picnic.avi".
I am using 4.5.1.254.

This bugs the hell out of me as I am sometimes forced to use 3.0 because I can not figure out what video it does not like.

tkrave  2008-08-06 02:12:33 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Man, that's pretty bizarre. I've been trying to recreate your situation, but I can't. Not really sure what you can do. Maybe try reinstalling it?

TD  2008-08-08 04:05:44 ( ID:ra54zhw1zgr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had even formatted Windows in a hope that would fix it.

I can tell you how you can recreate a problem.

Get any WMV file, for example, open it with Winamp, then go into file info and change the tag.

Then try to add it into TMPGENC.Your output file should bear the same name as the tag you've created.
