Question - Interlaced Quicktime Reference files seen as progressive No.68272
benoitm  2014-01-28 23:43:24 ( ID:v3dgvaadcnk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I import Quicktime reference files (.mov) containing interlaced DNxHD video, TVMW5 defaults the settings for this source as "progressive".
Tools like Mediainfo correctly report the video as interlaced.
Why isn't TVMW5 detecting the correct interlace mode in such cases ?

(Occasionally I forget to check and correct this, the result is visibly degraded video because interlaced source video is treated as progressive and eventually transcoded to interlaced output.)

tkrave  2014-01-29 09:18:50 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Could be a bug or it could be that the header info in the file is wrong. TMPGEnc software usually only looks at the header info, so if that's incorrect, you'll need to correct it in the clip properties window.

benoitm  2014-01-29 19:50:45 ( ID:v3dgvaadcnk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

But MediaInfo does see the Scan Type as Interlaced !
So the header seems correct ?

tkrave  2014-02-04 09:24:10 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MediaInfo might also look at the actual file itself to determine the actual scan type. I seem to recall it showing both the actual and reported stats if they were different, but don't quote me on that.

It could also be a bug in TMPGEnc. I would contact support about it.

Question - Overlay image No.68269
coryb891  2014-01-27 19:09:02 ( ID:r9ghgmzhnra )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to add a simple image overlay on top of my video. The image will be stationary on top throughout the video. I do not see a filter that will do this. Is this possible?

tkrave  2014-01-29 09:17:14 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is no filter for this, but it can be done in timeline editing mode.

Simply add a new layer above your clip and add your image to that layer. Position and resize the image to where you want it to be in the preview pane and adjust the length of the clip to however long you need it to be (in your case, as long as the video).

Question - Trim video without re-encoding No.68268
nohkul  2014-01-26 02:06:36 ( ID:p1njpiga3ao )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need to cut a section out from the start and end of a video. Can I trim and save using TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 without having to re-encode it? I don't want to lose any quality. The Format step is asking for the encoding format and I'm trying to match best I can based on the clip details, but I'm not sure I'm getting all the specs right.

tkrave  2014-01-29 09:14:07 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, TVMW5 is an encoder, first and foremost; it will re-encode everything you put into it.

TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 and TMPGEnc MPEG Smart Renderer 4 have smart rendering support (i.e. lossless editing) but only certain formats are supported. In the case of TAW5, it must be a DVD/BD/AVCHD compliant format.

glenpinn  2014-03-12 22:19:56 ( ID:emkgnpycif2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi, TMPGEnc doesnt have "smart rendering" like some other programs do, where you can import a file and trim it out, then "mux" it back to the exact same file with no re-encoding.

smart rendering even allows you to import say a 1080/50p avchd (mts) file from your camera, and output it within seconds to an mp4 or mkv container without re-encoding it.

its a shame all encoding software doesnt have it.

Message me if you want to know a program that does it.

Question - XPress 4 versus Video Mastering WOrkks 5 No.68252
rap2  2014-01-23 08:02:40 ( ID:ymwunosy5s. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I can use Xpress4 to make either a .mp4 file or .divx file that plays perfectly on a Samsung Tablet (or my sister's Nexus). BUT!!! none of the conversions using Video Mastering Works 5 will play the video portion on the tablets (audio only is available). I'm using the same .mp4 and .divx settings on each before the conversion. Why cannot VMW5 do the job?

George  2014-02-09 06:23:05 ( ID:2xj.eplz7yk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you using the latest version? If so, you should contact Pegasys with the details.

mathew lisett  2015-01-27 13:34:32 ( ID:emul5xj.btn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i would have said it could be a conflict of codecs thats causing the issues.

Question - vbr mpeg2 encodes undersized No.68190
davexnet  2014-01-08 08:23:37 ( ID:uvofjuppp4o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,
I've been doing some test encodes in the trial version.
I set the dvd template and then modified it so:

Max bitrate from 9200 > 9000
min from 2 > 300 (with padding)
avg bitrate 6700 (1st attempt) 5600 (2nd attempt)

I find the resulting m2v files to be consistently 5 - 7 % undersized.
Why is it doing this? I though the whole point of 2-pass VBR is that
it can hit the target size accurately.

tkrave  2014-01-10 07:37:33 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think VBR will ever be totally accurate because the results depend on the content. If you want a truly accurate output size, then you must use CBR, since that looks only at the bitrate regardless of content.

davexnet  2014-01-20 14:49:51 ( ID:uvofjuppp4o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, I understand. But surely, the information gained during the first pass
tell the program everything about the content, complexity, compressibility,
etc, etc. IT *should* be possible to get closer to the target, than 5%.
Other encoders can do it.

Do you think 5% undersize is acceptable ?

tkrave  2014-01-22 05:53:59 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, I'd say the file size estimate is the more inaccurate number since at that point, the software hasn't examined the video content yet. Maybe other software is better at guessing.

benoitm  2014-01-28 23:47:54 ( ID:v3dgvaadcnk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I also have noticed consistent undersizing of the encoded video.
Knowing this, I now generally use a more aggressive bitrate (e.g. slightly more than the expected output size)
In my opinion, it would be more problematic if the 2-pass encoding would cause oversized encodes (one would absolutely need to re-encode if e.g. the target disc size has been exceeded)

Question - Converting video No.68176
CRM  2014-01-03 02:04:35 ( ID:l4ubi2twt.2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Will this software enable me to cnvert my video to these specifications? I'm new at this.
Stream Type: MPEG 2 or 4
Video Bit rate: 4-6 Mbps (CBR)
Frame rate: 29.97
Chroma: 4.2.0
Interlacing: Upper Field First/Progressive if MP4
Aspect ratio: 4:3
Width/ Height: 720x480
Audio Type: LPCM or MPEG1 Layer 2
Audio Channels: 2 Channels duel mono(mixed)
Audio Bit rate:192Kbps
Avg Audio Level: 20 Dbfs

tkrave  2014-01-04 04:07:47 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can do most of these. The only one I'm not sure of is the Chroma setting. I can't find it, but maybe it's because I'm not familiar with it.
For Avg Audio Level, there is a Volume Adjustment filter that lets you set a base audio level at a specific dB level.
All other settings are available in the format/output settings.

You should download the trial and try it:

Question - what system for smoth editing No.68170
infantilo  2014-01-01 00:25:31 ( ID:vtgjj6ywyaa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I need to get a new pc for 90% Surfing and 10% editing home Videos from my playsport ZX5 (once a month).
As for space-saving reasons i'm thinking on a System something like the following:

.) Asrock FM2A55M-HD+
.) AMD A-Series A10-5800K
.) DDR3 PC-1600 8GB
.) 120GB SSD Flash-Disk, S-ATA-III
.) integrated AMD Vision HD-7660D

OR

.) Asrock H81M-ITX
.) INTEL Pentium G3420
.) DDR3 PC-1333 8GB
.) 120GB SSD Flash-Disk, S-ATA-III
.) integrated Intel HD Graphics 4200/4400

noone could tell me, if a similar System would be able to do smooth videoediting (with mainly tmpge VMW5, vegas or pinnacle Studio).

what of the both Systems would fit best?

Many thanks for any reply

your's with best wishes and a happy new year to all of you

Peter

Hard to say. TMPGEnc software is generally optimized for Intel processors, but that AMD processor looks faster than the the Intel processor, so it might be faster processing.

glenpinn  2014-03-12 22:34:41 ( ID:emkgnpycif2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi, the Amd cpu is faster, and it has Amd graphics incorporated on the cpu, the pentium cpu has no graphics.

both are low end dual cores.

i wouldnr be getting either for video, you should look at getting an intel ivy bridge based quad core cpu as a minimum.

these links show you the difference between them.

Question - Frame accurate smart rendering ? No.68163
Inapickle  2013-12-29 09:14:07 ( ID:jaaxdt46bk. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does Video Mastering Works 5 incorporate frame-accurate smart rendering, like Smart Renderer 4, or is it limited to I-frame cut editing?

Thanks.

tkrave  2014-01-07 07:55:41 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can cut-edit at any frame, but no smart rendering in TVMW5.

Question - Settings to reduce size of mp4 file No.68136
avz10  2013-12-21 15:36:14 ( ID:cnymkjv9htn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have 2 video clips that I want to email to a friend. The original size is was more than 100 MB. I used the template settings, (960x540), 25 fps, VBR, etc. Audio-AAC, bitrate 128. The size of both clips reduced to approximately 70MB each. I then changed settings: reduced bitrate to 2000 in stead of 4000- the size of the output clips basically remained the same, also when I changed the 960x540 to 640x360.
What settings are recommended to reduce the size of each clip to less than 5 MB?

Another question, since I have previously just used editing programmes with "fixed" conversion settings. To reduce for instance AVI to MPEG 2 for DVD, what are the best settings to use? I have a Canon Legria HV40, which is a HDV camera and I capture on 1920x1080, "comp out 1080i", which I presume is 1080 interlaced.
I have never been completely happy with the image quality of the DVDs and would appreciate comments about these settings as well.

Thanks

Persen  2013-12-28 17:00:16 ( ID:6tr/46zxmom )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would not reduce the size by that huge factor, because it will severely impact the image quality of it.
Instead i would use a free filesharing service from where friends and family then can download the video clips from.
Personally i always use Multiupload to upload homevideo clips to, if i want to share it with friends and family.
Then all i have to do, is to mail them the download link.

But i am afraid i can't help you with the other matter. I always keep videos in original pixel size and try not to touch the bitrate to much. I have a Blu-ray burner, so if i want to burn something in HD to a disc, i always use Blu-ray media.

Question - dvd mastering works 5 No.68132

I have just started using this program and every MKV file I open says NO AUDIO DATA....

Is there a solution to this ?

Thanks

tkrave  2013-12-18 02:37:24 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What version are you using? Try downloading the latest version of the software if you don't have it.

Persen  2013-12-28 17:09:02 ( ID:6tr/46zxmom )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I guess this is because the MKV's has DTS audio in them, by them selves the TMPGEnc softwares does not support DTS.
Try browsing thrue the other pages of the forum. The solution was posted a while ago on how to get DTS support, input only, not output, by using 3rd party software for rendering.

Question - Unable to install latest Update 5.4.2.103 No.68126
TriBar  2013-12-12 16:39:24 ( ID:tlrqukwlhym )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I just downloaded your latest version (5.4.2.103) of video mastering works 5 and the install fails with a popup that says

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available."
"Insert the 'TMPGEnc Video Mastering Worls 5' disk and click OK."

And also an option to browse to W5ENRetail.msi

When I browse to C:\Temp\D0\TVMW5ENRetail.msi the following message appears:
"The file 'C:\Temp\D0\TVMW5ENRetail.msi' is not a valid installation package for the product TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5. Try to find the installation package 'TVMW5ENRetail.msi' in a folder from which you can install TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5.

anyone know why this is happening?

Shinra Bansho  2013-12-14 21:51:42 ( ID:6otx36hqyew )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi TriBar,

I had exactly the same problem, contacted the customer support and received the following. Unfortunately, none of the suggestions below worked for my Windows 7 64 bit environment but might still be helpful to you. FYI, in my case, the prior update (5.4.0.100) no longer install (posting the very same error message) so the problem is not particularly with the most recent update (5.4.2.103).
