Why did they discarded encoding MP@HL? I need to encode for a Plasma Display at higher Resolution than DVD.

Second, Output of avi-File seems to be buggy. The same file saved as avi with Windows Media 9 Codec in 2.5 was about 7MB in size. Now the files becomes 51MB when saved with TMPGEnc Express.

Very, very dissapointed.

regards

The original software was written by a talented programmer for his own use.

This seems to have been spec'ed and written by people who have never archived a single piece of video in their lives.

No MP@HL and no speed improvements have kept me from buying.

RedGreenBlue  2004-06-13 12:51:02 ( ID:b13fh8mhibm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, everybody must encode for HDTV, this is a veeeeeeeery comon format out there, sure. Man, you have the bucks to pay yourself a plasma TV and you are bitching on a software that does not prices 5% of it. Time to return to reality, this is nice piece of consumer software for people with norma, basic everyday life video needs, no more and no less. I am very satisfied of it even if I regret some of the 2.5 are not in it (who cared about Force Picture Type anyway).

Sure there is only a few speed improve compared to 2.5 but if you read between the lines you will find a lot of new process are done, desactive them and you will have speed gain, or buy this new wonderfull P4 HT with SSE-3, it rocks :-)

Well, lack of activity in this board compared with the early 2.5 days says it all.

This software is way too complicated for average consumers. And anyway, they now have access to a bazillion embedded encoders.

TMPGEnc got where it is catering to the grossly underserved "prosumer/enthusiast" market. That is why we are annoyed 3.0 did not continue the strategy. 3.0 needs a "classic" mode where all the under-the-hood improvements are added to the previous inteface.

By the way, marketing info clearly states 59.94fps is offered but the software does not support that frame rate. This broken promise wasted a lot of my time and is my main beef. (If only the trial is crippled, that is unnecessary now that activation is in use.)

bladi  2004-06-16 21:12:51 ( ID:0r1a.2q.ytf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

59.94 is clearly there. For MPEG-1. Which you would see if you read the tables where they say what framerates are supported for what.
I'm not sure if 59.94 is even supported by the profile/level that is used in dvd mpeg2, so no big surprise there. imo.

I believe we will see support for higher resolution and framerate in due time.

Febre  2004-08-19 09:05:04 ( ID:vphbfx2xvgj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

59.95fps is selectable for Mpeg2, but you'll have to give up using the standard built in template. I've always manually set the settings myself or make my own template so this wasn't a big deal.

T3X seems to be geared towards the more experience users who love to tweak and are comfortable with the different options. I personally have made a complete switch over to T3X after doing some SVCD and DVD projects. The new GUI is great and set up time is a breeze.

dialtone  2004-06-10 13:56:14 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have found that TMPGEnc Express encodes very dark. So I have to use the Filter option to enhance the brightness/gamma.

I have not experienced that, are you a Pal or NTSC user? I am a Pal uer. But, the interface has a lot to learn to catch up to Tmpeg 2.5 Plus, much better and easier to get around.

Gene  2004-06-09 18:49:20 ( ID:ohcc2ey2og2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there.

Need help. I just downloaded the 2.5 and I'm trying to convert some of my AVIs. I'm using Pinacle Studio AV/DV to capture videos then edit them with Adobe Premier Pro. From there I export my video to Microsoft DV AVI. From that, I take the DV AVI file and convert it using TMPGEnc 2.5. Thing is when I do that, like I said, I end up with a blank video. Anyone seen this? Any know what I need to do?

Another thing is when I export the video using Studio 9 to AVI then use TMPGEnc, it converts just fine. So why not the videos I make with Premier?

Hope anyone can help. Thanks in advance for anyone who'll try.

Gene.

Thanks again.

Anyone else see this ? And better yet, have a solution ?

Yes, I am also getting this error. I have no idea what it means or what to do. If I use TMPGEnc 2.5, it don't get the error.

i was getting this error too, i think it might be something to do with
TMPG having problems handling MP3 sound.

i read elsewhere its VBR sound thats the problem, but i got this message trying ro encode an avi with cbr sound (according to g-spot anyway)

using nandub, i saved the encoded sound as a .wav, then set sound input to the saved .wav, set sound to full processing mode, video to direct streamcopy and finally saved as .avi.

voila

the last 2 times ive tried to encode a film (avitompeg) my CPU goes up to a 100% usage and computor is very slow or stops responding i use windows XP PRO OS
the first 5 or 6 film encodes were perfect ive reinstalled TMPGEnc 3.0 but hasnt helped anyone got any ideas ???? thanx

dialtone  2004-06-10 14:00:07 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Seems like you have the CPU priority set to higher than "low."

Look for the setting and lower the priority.

However, it may still apear to use 100%, but it is really using only the available IDLE time. Response should be better. Try it out.

Oh yes...and how can I get the .log files to be created? Those have been very helpful in 2.5. I can't find it anywhere in 3.0.

Seems there is no more log file available.

Question - No Audio when using a DV AVI file No.53145
vidimidi  2004-06-07 20:14:54 ( ID:v5xn2mmlr5l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been using 2.5 for a long time...great product. I'm frustrated with a few things in 3.0, i.e. it doesn't keep my settings when I just want to switch files. I always have to start new which loses the settings, or if I delete the input file and use another one, the default output file name stays as the previous one, and as someone mentioned it doesn't warn you, so I have written over numerous files not realizing it until later. I wish there was a non-wizard way like the old version had.

But more of a problem, DV source files from Pinnacle Liquid Edition .AVI's in version 2.5 worked great, but in 3.0, I get video just fine, but the .wav files are mostly empty. It seems to give me a second of audio, and then it is all blank. I now have to go back and redo the audio using 2.5 for a bunch of files that I have to recreate....any ideas?

I also think the license validation needs to be reworked. I had no problems installing, I didn't use the trial version, but my editing machine is also NOT connected to the Internet...it just makes sense. There has to be a better way.

JoeNezz  2005-03-30 14:50:49 ( ID:h.vkaywonm6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The codecs on the plug in are tricky on this one just try some different combinations I find the direct show drivers work best for most avi & divx, so try some different on off setups to change the priority & check for sound throughout the clip with the audio filter, if you are opening it with the wrong reader sound will be heard only at the beginning of the clip & the rest will have no sound or you may have no sound at all.

"There is no quoted number of Character-string '%.2f'"

I've been looking all over the net for tips or sollutions,

I'm getting this too.

RedGreenBlue  2004-06-13 13:00:29 ( ID:b13fh8mhibm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello everybody,

This is a HD space problem, but the error message is completely screwed up. Be sure the output and cache disks have enough space to stand the encode process. Last but not least, if you are on a FAT32 system and you output a big file that requiers more than 4GB this error jump off too.

RGB for the firends

IONeric  2004-06-13 14:37:04 ( ID:dvh8iqewznh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank You :-)!!!

My HDD runs on a FAT32 system (whatever this means...)
and reudcing the output file-size in the "set output"
menu seems to do the trick.(At lest the prgram started
the encoding process). I've had similar problems with
other encoders (f.i. MainConcept)do you know if this is
a general problem?

Regards

FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit

Tmpg Enc Express offers nothing new from TmpgEncode 2.5, in fact you can't tweak the settings as well as that far superior program. Plus pegasys is becoming greedy with its new registration format. If they use it in future programs they've lost a customer here.

anton  2004-06-02 14:42:28 ( ID:at0ygnxhyen )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the tweaks are the same in version 3 as in 2.5, once you find them, it took me a while. I agree about the licensing. Here is a screenshot http://www.videoproductions.com.au/temp/Tmpeg3.gif
The trick is to save a template, then you get all the options

wcpaul  2004-06-03 07:45:26 ( ID:m8km0qiv2po )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

One setting I don't see is profile and level.

They advertise 59.94fps support but there does not seem to be a way to enable the proper level for that.

dialtone  2004-06-08 20:11:26 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Look in the SET OUTPUT Options. Choose MPEG and you will see the familiar screen and your 59 setting you want.

Question - Window Media Player 9 required? No.53129
Linten  2004-06-01 05:54:00 ( ID:4bbk5n9bato )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I've installed TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress but upon starting it, I got an error message saying

"Unable to use the Windows Media 9 Technology. Please verify that Windows Media 9 Player is properly installed."

I'm running XP SP1 and have so far resisted upgrading to WMP 9. Does TMPGEnc 3.0 absolutely require WMP 9 to work at all? If so, I may have to go back to TMPGEnc 2.5. Can some kind soul out there confirm?

Thanks.

Linten

I have used tmpg3 without wmp9 in 2k and xp.

Is there a codec package available when you run windows update? Do you have Direct X 9 installed?
