Request - TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress Problem (VFAPI Frame Server) No.53296
Woo  2004-09-03 16:55:18 ( ID:jzuja6e.ckg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can some one help me with this problem when i used TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress

1) I go to "Add Source Wizard",
2) I choose "Add Source from a File"
3) I choose an AVI file
4) It give me the details on it (Format type, etc)
5) I go to the Cut-Edit Tab at top
6) I drag the slider along and I get the following error

{An error occured during a transmission with the VFAPI Frame Server.}.then i press ok

When i use TMPGEnc 2.5 it does't have this problem

What causes this, and can it be fixed? is it a problem with AVI, or a
Codec, etc

Hope some can help me .....
Thanks

cockbongo  2004-09-03 19:32:45 ( ID:d/jh.uiiph. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Its usually the audio causing the problem. Uncompress the audio part of the .avi using something like VirtualDub, but leave the video as it is (is VD you resave the .avi with "Direct Stream Copy" in video and "Full Processing Mode" in the audio).

Try and enter the newly saved .avi in Xpress 3 and it shouldn't have a problem.

Now if someone can tell me why VobSub wont attach subtitles to DivX files in TMPGEnc 3 i'll be very happy.

C

Interesting question. Am struggling with this problem also. Tried with -ffd? or something of that matter. If you give your .srt or .sub subtitlefile the same name as your .mpg you can see the subtitles in WinMedPlayer and in DivX player, as you may know, but you don´t see them in Tmpgenc xp 3. I tried it with Avisynth scripts using `DirectShowSource` but crashed. I´m now starting off to try a DVD2avi project way and then with `AviSource` in the Avisynth script. Who knows ?

Question - Command line support ? No.53294
popov  2004-09-02 15:19:53 ( ID:fhtz7i/nt1. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Any plan to add a command line support so that it's possible to convert one file to another in 'background' mode, ie. without showing a Gui ?

Hart Henry  2004-09-14 03:46:40 ( ID:28pk9ez3cnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have noticed that if you type in
TMPGEnc.exe -batch from the c: the system starts the batch mode process. I have made (1) batch file in the batch editor. Then, after the process is complete, I save the newly created .AVI file and I can just overwrite my input file with a new file and run the DOS batch again.

If you find any other DOS commands, please let me know

Question - altering size of mpeg encode to fit on1cd No.53293
numbnut  2004-09-01 21:10:03 ( ID:2jy5nw6ruw6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have encoded a load of xvid/divx films into pal VCD format to put on cd's to take on holiday to watch on a portable DVD player ( 6.5" screen)

Each of the films is coming out at about 950mb which means 2 dcd's per film.

I dont really need the quality as the screen size is so small.

I could probably get away with losing a bit of resolution to fit them onto 1 cd

How do I do this?

Question - Encoding subtitles in a DivX .avi No.53287
cockbongo  2004-08-29 17:38:33 ( ID:d/jh.uiiph. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Help...

Why can't i encode subtitles in a DivX encoded .avi when using TMPENC Xpress 3 to convert it to MPEG 2? The subs work in WMPlayer (VobSub pops up and everything) but XPress just doesn't seem to use any .srt, .sub or any sub file. It works fine with an Xvid

It seems to work version 2.5 although when the frame rate stutters like hell.

Anyway around this? Or is there an alternative program i can use to encode these subs? Am i missing something?

Kika  2004-08-30 08:40:12 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You should change the VFAPI settings. DirectShow need a higher priority.

cockbongo  2004-08-31 02:40:37 ( ID:d/jh.uiiph. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That doesn't affect the subtitling in Xpress 3. Does anyone know if its just a feature of DivX files and subitles? Why does TMPENC 2.5 work and Xpress not work?

B_Racer  2004-08-31 10:33:58 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do what i did: Change back to 2.5x!
Or use AVISynth to include the Subtitles. All you need is the PlugIn VSFilter.dll

Gerard Visser  2004-11-08 21:34:40 ( ID:w4xs85r65k6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There's no need to chance back to 2.5 for this matter, at least not for avi files. I managed to get an .srt file included by ONLY activating the radiobuttons of VFApi file reader and the DirectShow multimedia filereader in the input plug-in settings... if you can see the subtitles in WMPlayer than it should work in this way. Succes..

Gerard Visser  2004-11-08 22:23:05 ( ID:w4xs85r65k6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I found out how to import subtitles on a .mpg file also. (I created this file with VideoReDo from a VOB).
You can frameserve this file to TMPGenc with VirtualdubMPEG2 see here:
http://www.gojiita.net/majinbuu/musicvideos/How2addSubtitlestoavideo.php
You must however not use the there linked Virtualdub, but VIRTUALDUBMPEG2. Further you can follow the exact directions of this protocol. You must activate ONLY the radiobutton before AVI-file reader in the input plug-in settings of TMPGenc. If you input the .vdr file you can see the subtitles. I did not yet Encode it, that I will try too. Alas, the titles are not as clear as with VObSub (small and on a nasty place in the window) Maybe SubTitle workshop can do something about it...

When converting WMV files to DVD using 3.0 Xpress, the file gets 99% done, then I receive the following error: Stream Reading Error Error Code 0x80048007. Have tried this on a couple of different files with identical result. Can anyone provide possible solution? Thanks

Question - TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress does not work with frame server from VirtualDubMod? No.53281
Warrior  2004-08-24 22:16:18 ( ID:f.8yzuhnjzm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress does not work with the frame server from VirtualDubMod. In the preview everything checks out fine, but when the encoding started, it shoes an error "file type not supported".

Any suggestions?

Question - Add Borders No.53276
Skonk  2004-08-22 13:59:14 ( ID:xnpzw1zwwfh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is it posible to pad the edges of my video with black? My source video has hard coded subtitles which do not fit into TV safe areas, as such when played back on a tv the subtitles go off the bottom of the tv screen, i need to somehow add several pixels of black (padding) around the edge of my video.

The crop feature can add black borders but this decreases the actual image size so isn't useful for my problem, i need to actually shrink the image down slightlighy leaving black around the edges. AVI Synth has a "AddBorders" function that can do this but i was hoping i could get a plugin for TMPGEnc that could do this for me.

Thanks..

Jim.

JoeHecht  2004-08-22 21:14:58 ( ID:24phymk8wv. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I do this by doing a crop filter (with no mask), then doing a resize filter to
(image position - center and custom size) and st the resize to exactly the same as the cropped size.

I believe that if the "resized size" is exactly the same as the "cropped size", then no resize is actually perfomed (so the quality does not degrade), and you still get black borders. I checked the quality by doing this (using TMpg251) and it was pixel to pixel perfect (no real resize happened).

I use this to eliminate any garbge around VHS and SAT captures (thinking that if the encoder does not try to encode the garbage and overscans, it can do a better job on what I really want to see). Also, by the time you trim the left and right side, you can drop a 720x480 to 704x480 (thinking that x-bitrate would produce better results on 704 than 720). An added bonus is that 352 is exactly half of 704, making 352*240 movies encode both faster and with better quality.

If someone wants to dispute the ideas presented, please chime in, as I am only trying to follow "logical thinking" here...

Joe

Skonk  2004-09-24 22:22:03 ( ID:17s7uipsle. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think you misunderstand me slightly :)

THe crop filter removes pixels, where as i need to keep them, i have subtitle text that is about 2 pixels from the bottom of the image, when played back on a tv this text goes off the bottom of the screen so you cant read it, i need to shrink the video down lets say by 10 pixels around each edge (thats 20 in total), resizing it rather then cropping it and then add 10 pixels of black around each edge to bring it back to the correct resolution, this way the text will be visible on the tv screen (not pushed off the bottom).

Iv been trying to do it with avisynth's addborders function but avisynth doesn's seem to like my avi files (using wmv3 codec), if it would open my video (well it does but with no sound) this would work fine, i can resize the video to 700 * 556 then add 10 pixels around each edge to bring the resolution back to 720 * 576.
Its fansubbed anime im trying to convert to dvd so they all have subtitles, not much use without them since i dont speak japanese :)

Yeah - I'm having this same problem. Totally annoying. The error message has no useful information at all.

scarabic  2004-11-06 21:59:22 ( ID:sd0zzcmtedc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay - here's a vague workaround I stumbled upon.

First I upgraded to the most recent version: 3.1.3.70

Then the error message changed. It began complaining that there was not enough space free on my output destination disk. This was not true - I have a second 80GB hard drive I use just for video, and it had over 50GB free.

However, I switch the output destination to the Desktop on my C: drive and retried. It has finally gotten past the initial choke stage and is working its way through the batch. I don't know if it will finish... but at least it's working.

So:
1) upgrade
2) fiddle with your output destination if possible

David  2004-12-01 09:57:28 ( ID:mpwpv837utc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I set the output to a drive which only had about 7gb free, when I got that error message, I changed the output to C: which has 20gb free, and the error message went away. I guess it just needs a bit more space to encode. Hope this helps everyone, pity the error message couldn't be more helpful.

Question - avi to mpg without losing all sound No.53265

I tried to convert a avi movie to mpg with TMPGEnc 2.5 & it converted it but I was left with no sound. Can someone PLEASE tell me that this problem will be solved when I convert it with 3.0 express. I'm in the process of doing that now.

I have the same issues with 3.0 .... if you figure it out, let me know!

some_guy  2005-03-02 03:32:49 ( ID:dvawlabvfgm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The source is probably AC3.
Xpress can't do AC3. I hear there is a plugin, but I haven't seen it work at decoding the ac3

Use another product to rip the audio

Question - read errors??? No.53264
smv51  2004-08-16 19:46:47 ( ID:cddf1riyzwj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So far I have been able to successfully encode one file using TMPGEnc 3XP. For some reason when I try to encode now I get read errors during the encoding process. The point where the error occurs is not always in the same place sometimes it is with the first 10 minutes of the video, sometimes it is a couple of hours in. Of course the program stops at this point and I have to start over. This is very time consuming when trying to encode 4 hours of video using XDVD. I have tried rebooting (cold and warm), running chkdsk, and changing the source files. I am beginning to wonder if I have some bad memory.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or know the cause?

I am running Windows XP Pro with an Intel P4 1.7Ghz 512MB RAM and a 250GB HD, file system is NTFS.

Something that I have found by accident is that if you are editing a video using the "frame by frame button" next to the speaker icon and you right click while holding the button down with a left click, the video will play continuously in frame by frame mode. This saves some wear and tear on the mouse finger. I didn't see it in the help so I thought I'd pass it along.

Question - TMPGenc 3.0 Xpress Noise Filters vs Avisynth No.53261
Steve D.  2004-08-13 05:41:10 ( ID:tnwva14793j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Has anybody compared the quality of the Spatial and Temporal noise reduction filters in TMPGenc 3.0 Xpress to those available Avisynth? I've been using the filters in TMPGenc 3.0 Xpress, however I am wondering if the time and effort to use Avisynth noise reduction filters would result in a noticably better product. I'm thinking of filters like the Peach Smoother.

I'm primarily focused on eliminating noise from VHS captures that have high motion components, so I've been using the temporal filter in TMPGenc 3.0 Xpress.

TIA
