Question - very long render time No.43650
Vega  2007-03-18 05:54:14 ( ID:d.gjzvh.xq2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an HD movie, 2hrs 40 min in length, 29.97fps, 1280*1088, 16:9, that i want to resize to 720*480. I have no filters set, the movie is progressive, so no conversion to or from interlaced, I am not rendering audio as it is ac3, as I do not have the plug-in, set vbr max 9000, min 2000, DC component precision set to 10, and motion estimate search selected. No other changes have been made. I have enabled all the CPU settings. I am running this on a P4 3.06ghz, 2gb ram, 500gb SATA 300 drive.

When I start the rendering, TPMG shows a time of 21h 16m. After 8 hours running with highest priority, and all other processes disabled, there is still 11h 33 min to go. This seems unusually long, as ffmpeg rendered this clip with audio in just under 1 hour. Have I missed something in the settings, or have a bad codec installed with TMPG? I have been through any of the threads here that relate to performance, and cannot see my error. Any ideas?

thanks
Vega

Question - Audio "can not open or unsupported" Divx Mpeg-4 AVI; MP3; transcode-1.0.2 No.43649
InXanity  2007-03-06 01:48:10 ( ID:qeslrzg3qdc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have several AVI files in which the audio is unreadable by TMPGEnc 2.5. AVIcodec shows the following for one particular file:

File: 350 MB (350 MB), duration: 0:43:36, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 50 %, transcode-1.0.2, ,
Video: 310 MB, 995 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 624*352 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
Audio: 39 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, CBR, , Supported

Each of the files I am dealing with are branded "transcode-1.0.2." Does anyone know how I can get TMPGEnc to read the audio in these files?

Question - pdvcodec and tmpgenc plus No.43647
ppsystem  2007-02-11 13:36:50 ( ID:whrqtudrlcm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,
I'm using tmpgenc plus 2.5 and I have installed the pdvcodec(DV-AVI)from Panasonic. But in the videocompression list I can't see this pdvcodec. In virtualdub I can see this pdvcodec. So what's wrong ? Can somebody help me ?

Question - saves analyzing result No.43646
davexnet  2007-02-10 05:12:20 ( ID:ofs9kdfwssj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If I encode a divx/xvid avi in virtualdub 2-pass, the results of the first
pass are saved on a file in the harddrive. it's there until I delete it.
I can then encode the 2nd pass as many times as I like, without having to
reproduce the analyzing result (1st pass) again.

In Tmpg, the option "saves analyzing results" seems that it's similar,
except it's not. Where are the analyzing results saved?
Does it really help the 2nd pass? I tried a 2pass vbr without specifying
"saves analyzing results", and I couldn't see the difference.

It seems that it should behave the same as virtualdub to be useful.
Unless I don't understand it's implemtation. I'm using version 2.5
Tmpgenc Plus.
Thanks for any enlightenment.
Dave

Question - How to encode 16:9, 720 x 404 avi? No.43645
newencoder  2007-01-10 21:13:25 ( ID:mjsfs3y0w2l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an avi file with 720 x 404 and is 16:9 aspect ratio.
I want to encode it to a DVD to watch on a 16:9 TV.

What should I set the source aspect ratio, video arrange method, output resolution and aspect ratio?

My first attempt was to ignore the source aspect ratio (it doesn't seem to have any effect on the output), set the video arrange method to center (default), set the output resolution to 720 x 480, output aspect to 16:9.

This works ok. The resulting DVD when play, will expand to fill the screen automatically. However, whenever there are subtitle/text on the screen I notice they have re-sampling blur. How can I avoid this blur?

Question - vertical upscale of interlaced video No.43644
muxx  2007-01-10 00:33:54 ( ID:2lnq5esol3h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hello everyone

I have a question regarding cropping and encoding interlaced video. I am capturing interlaced signal from a Hi8 camcorder and obviously there's some junk on all sides. I crop it and optionally resize (for fullscreen). the question is, how does it affect interlace (1) and MPEG encoder (2). AFAU, there are several scenarios. lets outline a couple:

1. the image is cropped and then upscaled to full DVD resolution. this is simple for horisontal scale, but non-obvious for vertical, since several lines have to be added. I don't understand how vertical upscale works with interlaced video. either pairs of fields are duplicated every now and then, which is not the best upscale algorithm, or the image is deinterlaced, upscaled, and then interlaced again, which kinda misses the point of interlace. what does TmpgEnc do when I choose crop+fullscreen ?
1. back bands are created around the image. encoder will waste bandwidth encoding them and there will be artefacts near the edges. this is the scenario for crop+center AFAIU.

I would be extemely helpful if someone answers these two questions and possibly recommends what interlace/crop/scale options of TmpgEnc I should use to make DVDs out of my Hi8 recordings.

thanks very much in advance.

Question - NTSC/DVD video file encodes faster than audio file No.43642
regman39  2006-12-11 08:07:13 ( ID:6nj5qhul9oc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've been working with TMPGEnc for the past 6 years and I've never experienced any serious problems with it...however, I've encountered a very rare unusual problem. I use dvd2avi for my movie files and then I transfer them to the TMPGEnc encoder and they work fine, but I have one in particular to where the video runs faster than the audio. I guess what I'm trying to ask is: how do I get the video to slow down in the encoder to match the audio?? I've tried going to the audio gap correct and adjusting that and it doesn't do any good and if I DO get it to run right, it'll make the audio sound like donald duck so I need to slow the video file down, but I don't know how....Please help me out if you can...Thanks alot!!

Question - Wide mix-up of colors after AVI to MPEG No.43641
Confused  2006-11-17 20:01:56 ( ID:6ju0isskkj. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc 2.5 is working mighty fine, but after converting a movie from AVI to MPEG a splash of rainbow-colors appear at some scenes along the bottom of the picture, taking up almost half the frame. What causes this, and what can I do?

Thanks

Question - "can not open, or unsupported" error with video mpg No.43639
ciper  2006-11-12 09:56:42 ( ID:7/hoyhk.jyc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an mpeg2 video that receives the error message "can not open, or unsupported."

The file has a resolution of 352x480, aspect ration of 4:3, 29.97 fps and with no audio.

I do not understand why this file is not supported. I tried the original mpg which still had the audio and it doesnt work either.

I had the same issue, I resolved it by uninstalling ffdshow, divx, AC3 (and all other codecs on system). After, I re-installed ffdshow 20020617, divx 5.21, and AC3ACM v1.31. I then set the environmetal settting, VFAPI directshow to 2 (higher than others). Works fine again.
