Question - Lost audio when converting AVI to mpg No.42912
Kransvans  2005-02-20 09:43:10 ( ID:ez.ipohrbtm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi There.

First, i want to excuse my poor english.

My problem is that when i'm converting my AVI file to MPG I loose my audio. ( I've read som threads here already, so I see that you are confused over why people even wants to do this. )

My excuse for doing this, is that I want to make my subtitles permanent on the file. So I can burn them on a DVD with subtitles.

I manage to get my subtitles on the right place. But, as I wrote erlier I loose my audio when I do this.

Got any idea what I should do?

Question - TMPGEnc exits while converting No.42910
Enrico  2005-02-20 09:38:27 ( ID:odherbwh.sr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,
I have a problem with MPEG2 conversion.

While converting videos realised with Premiere 6.5 (acquired with Matrox RT.x10) TMPEG 2.5 begins the conversion ...and then, almost "randomly", the program exits with no reason.
I tried disabling SSE and SSE2 cpu intructions, and even the floating poin in the Matrix is disabled, but nothing to do: the piece of file that is converted is perfect, but the conversione nere arrives at 100% of the file length.

Maybe a codec problem... but not sure; does anybody can help me, please?

I answer for myself since - trying and trying - I found the "bug".

The solution is in the nVidia chipset "nTune" utility: it effectively encreases performances, but causes small problems with intensive fpu utilizaion.

So it's enough to delete the "performance selection" directly from the rin service of the registry (regedit.exe ...etc).
Reboot and the problem is solved and locked.

Question - How to split off audio from MPEG. I want audio to play on standard CD player. I don't want the video No.42905
MS  2005-02-20 08:46:21 ( ID:xlspkwv96wa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an MPEG of a song consisting of audio and video in a single MPEG that I took from a VCD. I need to split off the audio by itself and burn it to a CD. I can't figure out how to seperate the audio from the video. Could some kind person give me a tutorial as I'm extremely inexperienced with this program. Thanks. MS

ashy  2005-02-20 19:34:05 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Open the MPEGtools in TMPG and then load your file into the 'Simple de-multiplexer'
Delete the video part from the video box then run it and you'll end up with just an audio file.
If the file is MP2 then you can't burn it to disk. You will need to either convert it to wav first or convert it to MP3.

TMPG can do this, but the procedure is different to the above if you want to do it.

aldaco12  2005-02-23 13:39:26 ( ID:oqc/f/b5mok )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try BeSweet + BeSweet GUI. Choose profile 'MP3 for music' and input: *.MP2.

Question - No audio even though it is mp3 audio No.42903
Shrug  2005-02-20 01:40:37 ( ID:a3toqppbpph )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No audio even though it is mp3 audio.
I keep trying to prepare an avi for DVD but tmpg is not picking up the audio. The audio is mp3 according to AVIcodec, but I still get no sound.

Here is the file info according to AVI codec:

File : 700 MB (700 MB), duration: 1:37:48, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 41 %

Video : 609 MB, 871 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 512*272 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported

Audio : 90 MB, 129 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 3 (MP3), Supported

Does anyone have any ideas why my exported files have no audio?

Many thanks!

aldaco12  2005-02-23 13:40:58 ( ID:oqc/f/b5mok )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGenc often cannot tackle with some type of compress ausio.
Read http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/129217, extract the audio as an Uncompressed WAV and load it or convert it to .MP2 with BeSweet (+ its GUI)

Question - TMPGEnc does not convert the entire .vob file No.42901
tducar  2005-02-18 04:25:33 ( ID:rzdqvou3ruj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I convert a .vob file in TMPGEnc, it only converts about the first 13 seconds of about a 2 minute file. I think it only converts until I pressed the stop recording button on my camcorder. I use a sony camcorder that records directly to minidisk. Does anyone know why tMPGEnc stops converting, or, better yet, how I can keep it converting until it converts the entire .vob file?

Question - Converting .VOB files No.42898
Mike  2005-02-17 19:05:30 ( ID:utc6.ihcft. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a .vob file given to me on a DVD that I want to edit. The file plays both video and audio through Windows Media Player and my Nero player. Windows Movie Maker and Screen Blaster video editing software wonÃÕ recognize .vob files. TMPGEnc will convert .vob files to MPEG1 and MPEG2 files where my editing software will recognize the video but not the audio. I also converted the MPEG files to .avi files, but the same thing happens. IÃÎ not as technical as I would like to be so if someone can explain to me in simple terms how I can extract the audio from the .vob file into a format that my editing software would recognize©å©ªÃÍl give you my first born.

ashy  2005-02-17 21:37:42 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First of all if you want to convert your VOBs to MPEGs then simply run the VOB through the simple multiplexer in TMPG and select 'MPEG2 Program VBR' as the 'Type'

To get your other software to recognize your audio then download AC3FILTER.
http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/

If that doesn't work the install the AC3ACM decompressor.
http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/

If neither work then to convert your VOB audio to a usuable format use Virtualdubmod to extract the audio to a WAV.
You can also use DVD2AVI to create a WAV from your VOB.

Question - muxxing don't work ?? No.42896
BX-8017  2005-02-17 18:16:40 ( ID:vqg.440x5uc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

a 1000 times I used befor the mussing funktion of tmpgenc plus without any problems.
Now I have the following problem: I want to mux an mpeg-2 video file (an original stream file from digital TV) and an ac3-audio file (I streamed video and audio seperately because that's the only way for me to get the ac3-audio, if different audio-streams exist)

With the funktion "simple multiplex" it say "illegal mpg video/audio stream"
with the funktion "multiplex" tmpgenc does nothing without any notice but the list of stream stay empty.

I don't understand this. The files are correct! the ac3file I can play with the WMP.
I made the many times before with the same kind of streams. Why this doesn't work????
can anybody help, please !

Best Greetings
BX-8017

ashy  2005-02-17 21:07:41 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try loading one at a time into the multiplexer, not the simple multiplexer and see if TMPG can read the headers of the files.

If it can't read the headers of one of the files then there is your problem.
However if it can display the header info of the files then try running just one or the other of the files through the multiplexer to see which one gets rejected.

Question - vob chapters No.42894
nablus  2005-02-17 14:08:22 ( ID:th4japiu8rm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am running vob files through TMPGEnc without any problem unless the file contains chapters. Then TM processes only the first chapter and ignores the rest.

Im sure there is a simple solution but I cannot find it.

Thanks so much for any advice

ashy  2005-02-17 21:03:01 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The simple solution is 'DO NOT' run VOB files through TMPG.
VOB files are NOT simple MPEGs. They contain other components that could affect the encoding.
For instance you cannot select the required audio track with TMPG.

The tried, tested and best way to encode VOBs is to use DVD2AVI as frame sever.
Simply open the VOBs with DVD2AVI, select the required options, audio track e.t.c. and then create a project file.
After a few minutes you will have a compatible file to load into TMPG.

Question - Tmpgenc fails when loading avi No.42892
Giroux18  2005-02-16 17:22:22 ( ID:a5z7vys9cv6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert an AVI to MPEG, so i can put it onto dvd, but when i load the avi, TMPGENC fails on me. I can play the file in a media player, such as windows media, and divx, but why is it failing when i try to load it? I've reinstalled all my codecs, and have restarted me PC many times, anyone know what i can do to get it to work?! Thanks in advance.

aldaco12  2005-02-25 13:41:26 ( ID:oqc/f/b5mok )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Nope. And what happens if you open the video with VirtualDub and, just for tamporary file, you compress it with Xvid codec set at maximum quality (AS @ L5 and maximum quality)?

Question - Problem with every "mpeg-->avi-file" No.42884
mki  2005-02-15 19:53:32 ( ID:xho82zh7up. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, first of all *sorry for my bad english* :)

Im using TMPGEnc 2.521.58.169 (core 1.98.152)

everytime I encode my mpeg-file I get an error at the same position.
every player just stops playing every file at 01:07:40.

The Mpeg-files are always between 0.9GB and 1.3GB (about 1.5 hours)
(MPEG-1 640x480 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 48000Hz 128kbps)

The Avi-files have a size of ~500MB
(AVI 640x480 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 48000Hz 128kbps)

(I know 640*480 not a standard resolution for videos but i watch the files on my computer, so it should be ok, right?)

Well the problem is no matter what i do it always stops the *.avi at 01:07:40 while the mpeg-file doesnt stop at all. I have tried about 10 different videos, everyone stops at the same position so i don´t think it happens by accident.

Can anyone help?

ashy  2005-02-16 08:47:44 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First of all, can I just ask what is the point in re-encoding the AVI's at all?
As you say the resolution is not standard and won't play in any other player then the PC.
If that's the case what's the point in craeting an MPEG that will have reduced quality and be twice the size? You may as well just watch the AVI.

Ok aside from that I need you to explain what you mean by saying the file stops playing.

Do you mean it actually ends at that point or does it just freeze on the last frame or do you mean it continues playing, but still shows the same frame?

Have you checked to make sure you don't have your source range setting to end at 01:07:40?

mki  2005-02-16 15:59:49 ( ID:u1gjpk3cjuw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What do you mean with "reencoding the file"?

I use a dvb-s card to record mpeg streams and then i encode them to avi
(with Xvid Codec)

If i use PowerDVD it just quits the programm. If i use WinMediaPlayer it says "corrupt file" (keeps playing video but without sound and if i close the error warning it stops).

The file doesnt end at 01:07:40, i can go on watching the files at about 01:08:00

ashy  2005-02-16 16:36:10 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So your capturing to MPEG and THEN converting to AVI?

Why not just capture to AVI? Does your card not have the ability, seems a bit daft converting to AVI.

I can capture to full resolution on my PC using MPEG4 at 25fps without dropping frames and I only have a crappy WinTV card.

I certainly don't understand the point of capturing to such a low quality format such as standard VCD format and then converting to AVI.
The quality loss will be drastic.
If you must capture to MPEG first then capture to MPEG2 with a pretty high bitrate. Your AVI's will then be of much higher quality.

However I still don't understand your problem.
Are your MPEGs stopping at 01:07:40 or your AVI's?

mki  2005-02-16 17:47:54 ( ID:u1gjpk3cjuw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I can only record in mpeg2 or pva and i use mpeg2.

the thing is i am new in videoencoding and the only way for me
to get the videos to avi was

record as mpeg2. (works fine)
encode to mpeg1. (works fine)
encode to avi (the 01:07:40 problem)

I cant encode mpeg2 directly to avi (sound+video wont match)

I already tried FLASK. It works to encode and doesnt stop at the position
but when i open the file it runs for a half second then freezes for a half second, and so on the whole file trough.

ashy  2005-02-16 23:09:47 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>I cant encode mpeg2 directly to avi (sound+video wont match)
This is a problem with your card dropping frames. Your PC isn't powerful enough to handle the bitrates and resolution you are using.
MPEG1 VCD format is less demanding.

Is it possible to adjust the MPEG1 settings for your card? If you can, raise the bitrate, double it if you can as it will improve the quality no end.

It's obvious TMPG doesn't like the MPEGs your card creates.
What sort of card is it, manufacturer and model?

To be honest you are using the wrong application for encoding to AVI anyway. Virtualdubmod is faster and better at it.

mki  2005-02-17 14:12:12 ( ID:f9xn2diebs. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Im using a Technisat Skystar 2 PCI on a AMD 64 3000+ with 1GB Ram.

I havnt tried virtualdubmod yet, but i have it on my HDD.
I will give it a try.

Thank you for all the answers btw. :)

mki  2005-02-20 23:09:26 ( ID:4.wrbmnpelm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

wow, VirtualDub works perfect. encodes the files without a single error
+I could save my old videos by cutting some frames at 01:07:40.

thanks for your help ashy

Request - Trying to make a VCD to play in home DVD player No.42880
craig  2005-02-15 17:21:10 ( ID:ag4g5fkogjj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I down loaded this program because it says that it can create VCDs, but the only thing it does is convert video files to mpeg format, correct? Well I've been looking for the past week for a program that will actually let me burn a VCD that will play on my home dvd player and every program that I've downloaded which claims to be able to do this turns out to be nothing more than a file converter. I'm not saying that this program doesn't work , but , simply converting a file to mpeg and burning it to a disc does not create a VCD.I need a true VCD creating program (freeware or fully functioning shareware)if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. I already have a million and one programs that can rip dvds to mpeg format and that is where I'm stuck at, I need to actually burn a VCD not just make an mpeg file!!

ashy  2005-02-16 08:52:42 ( ID:k9h6gdv/wof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Jaysus man you've done the main part, you've got your MPEG all it needs is burning.
If you wanns be lazy using all in ones programs will simply sacrifice quality.

What's the problem?
You've got your MPEG just bung it into nero and burn. A few minutes later you'll have your VCD.

TMPG simply creates the MPEG in the right format for VCD burning. If you've done it right then you'll have an MPEG which is VCD compatible.

Open NERO, select the VCD burning option load you MPEG in and burn. Simple as that. Now watch your VCD.

To give a decent reply (without the unrelated answer from ashy) that actually relates to the request.

Most CD/RW and DVD/RW devices come with software that does just that.
Burns VDC's and/or DVD's. If not then there are alot of burning programs available commercially that can help you out. (only a few of the free programs are halfway decent at best, none worth mentioning)

Try a search on the Internet for these:
Roxio , A good 2nd best program
Nero, the #1 burning program
These are the best burners, but beware of Nero. It has built-in adware inserted into your Internet Explorer or Netscape program.

There are no decent "all in one" programs, although Roxios Easy CD Creator does come close, you will sacrifice alot of time to use it and the file will come out alot bigger than expected.

>These are the best burners, but beware of Nero. It has built-in adware inserted into your Internet Explorer or Netscape program.

Since when?
I've been using it for years and not noticed any.

>There are no decent "all in one" programs, although Roxios Easy CD Creator does come close, you will sacrifice alot of time to use it and the file will come out alot bigger than expected.

And the quality will be rubbish.
