My TMPGenc Plus suddenly crashed and now when I am trying to open AVI files I do NOT see Preview (because its black) and output is also black (contains no video) but only audio.
Never had this problem before
1.I reinstalled TMPGenc Plus
2.I installed FFDSHOW
3.My AVIs playing normally in Windows Media Player and VirtualDub
4.I raised priority to the top for DirectShow Multimedia File Reader
I am getting an error code when I try to encode an .avi into elementary streams--the code is 29 809119792--does anyone know what this means? It is only doing it on one file-the file does not appear to be corrupt in any way!
I am new to encoding. Actually I am trying to capture personal home movies. I used Vdub to capture to HufYUV codec YUY2 for a 1.5hour movie, and it came out to 40gb. No problems at all, it plays fine. I want the final format to be xvid. I was going to use Avisynth to correct color and other stuff, but I found that it was much to cumbersome, one of my friends suggested TMPGENC along with VFAPI to output to xvid.
He told me to select all my settings and save the project as a .tpr file or something like that, then use VFAPI to output to AVI. I ran VFAPI exe and set the input as the tpr and the output as blah.avi, but when I did this, the output file ended up being 1gb and took only like 3minutes to encode, but the video was messed up - it skipped about every 15 frames or so. So when I tried to figure what the problem was, I went to TMPGENC and noticed that I can save the output to AVI without using VFAPI - when i tried this, it said that the encode time would be 80hours. it is still running. is this normal???
First off I would not use TMPG for what you are trying to acheive.
I would stick with Virtualdub. It is far better at it, faster and the quality will be better.
What is the problem you are having using Virtualdub. It is fairly easy to grasp?
I didn't have this problem when converting from avi to mpeg with 2 or 3 other files. But now, whenever I try to convert them, the file size seems to always be larger than 1gb. What am I doing wrong? I didn't change any settings. They're all the same as before. Even the format is the same (NTSC under Video CD). Please help. The file sizes should only be around 400-something mb, not OVER 1gb.
I'm not trying to create a vcd, I'm just simply trying to convert an avi file to mpeg/mpeg1. I did not reduce the standard VCD bitrate. I have not changed any settings at all. I always use the "non standard" setting.
I have no idea why you wish to create an ordinary MPEG as you will not reduce the size, but the quality will be reduced.
The output size depends on 2 things, the length of the source and the output bitrate.
What is the length of the AVI?
To change the bitrate you must 'Unlock' the settings first by loading the 'Unlock.mcf' in the template folder.
Then which is the problem? 10' VCD movie = 100 MB. It's a simply rule. Therefore 1 CD-R = 80' VCD and you'll use 1 CDs for an average movie.
What's the problem? Just use Settings___Advanced___Select Range [CD1: 0--F frames; CD2: F+1-->end (-1 frames)] or File___MPEG Tools___Merge & Cut (type: MPEG-1 Video-CD).

This didn't help. I still can't change the bitrate settings. Do you want pictures of what's going on?

In your earlier post you said you weren't trying to create a VCD.
If you wish to play an MPEG on a DVD player it has to be either DVD/SVCD or VCD. VCD is MPEG1.
To solve your length problem try raising the priority of the 'Directshow file reader' to top of the list in the VFAPI plugins.

Sorry, I forgot it is a VCD I'm creating. Anyways, making the Directshow file reader a higher priority seems to work. :) Thanks so much for yer help. :)
I am unable to import any AVI files into TMPGEnc. I get an "File C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorDesktop"movie title.avi"can not open, or unsupported. They play great in wmp! What am I doing wrong. I want to encode the avi to mpeg2 and burn a DVD using Nero 6, but Nero doesn't work either!

Some part are missing and I can see the subtitles, which are on the video stream. I am wondering what could be the problem since I used the MENU DVD-NTSC and specified 720/480 manually in the choices.

Use the same aspect ratio as you normally would, but click the "settings" button, then the advanced tab, then clip frame. Then in "arrange settings change the options to "Center (custom size)" and then input the size as 660x430. This way you will keep the correct ration but still be able to see the subs as well.

How in the heck can you give that advice if you don't even know the resolution nor the aspect ratio of the source AVI?
I've been playing around with tmpgenc express 3.0 to create a background image with audio to use as a menu in TDA. The audio is too loud as compared with the audio in my program.I am combing a bitmap image with pcm audio. How can I lower the audio level, nothing I have done so far seems to work. The audio in my program (vobs) is a little on the low side.

I am experiencing a very irritating problem at the moment - whenever I try to convert a video file to vcd format it freezes up the whole pc so that it has to be re-booted this happens aproxm. 5-60% into the converting process.
the strange thing is that I have been using TMPGEnc for more than 2 years (last 5 days ago) and this has never happened before, now it happens everytime - I have tried changing the WFAPI plug in settings, cleaning up the hard drive, running all sorts off registry cleaning tools, remowed spyware and virus checks all to no effect. It doesn't matter either if I change the file I am working on it happens with all of the 20 files I have on the pc and the strangest thing is that i downloaded X-video converter and it that crashes too.
I have 2,4Ghz pentium processor and there is more than 20 Gb harddisc space left to work on.
can anybody come with asuggestion to what I should do next or what is wrong

I am trying to convert some vcd files to dvd using TMPGEnc 2.5 wixard but have encountered 2 particular problems. Firstly, some files converted lose the right channel audio(only allows left channel audio). The original vcd files allow both left & right channel options. Video is fine. Secondly, some files completely lose all audio. Any suggestions as to what I might try please?
Why are you converting?
Just author the files as they are. There is no need to re-encode anything as they are already DVD compatible and you will maintain quality.
I have no problems using TMPGEnc1.6 for most of my vcd files burning them onto a dvd disc with options for selecting left or right channels available as in the original vcd. I am converting some vcd files because these particular ones have errors in them like "A video sequence header is necessary for every GOP in standard DVD. The video sequence header is incorrect....." and "There is no audio." Using TMPGEnc 2.5 allows me to burn these onto a dvd but that's where the problems arise.

No need to re-encode for that either.
Just simply load the MPEG into the 'merge&cut' tool in the MPEG tools, select 'MPEG1 VCD' and run it.
TMPG will add the required sequence headers automatically.

No need to re-encode the video for that.
Normally TMPG DVD author will give you the option to re-encode the audio to a suitable format. If not then just use TMPGenc to encode the audio only to MP2 and then mux with the video using the 'simple multiplexer'
I have a avi movie that I'd like to put on DVD. The framerate is 23.9, and the length is 1:39:4. When I go to encode using the project wizard the file is too large for DVD so I chose to compress the audio and do the whole (ES)Video only thing. The problem is when I want to choose the framerate there is no 23.9 framerate (internally 29.9) as there was in the project wizard. After encoding the file at just 23.9, it can't open in DVD Author. I figured that since I am not using the project wizard I'm not able to specify that it is a film file instead of a video file. I;ve searched the BBS and couldn't find anything so please let me know if I can get around this without having to convert it to a diff. framerate. (I'm sure I'm just overlooking some small thing)
The DVD is MPEG1 and therfore will likely use PCM or MP2 as the audio.
If it's MP2 which is most likely then have a look in the ''streams.txt' file that Smartripper created. Find the number of the audio track you require then in DVD2AVI select that track number then under 'channel format' select 'MPEG audio' then under 'MPEG audio' select 'Demux all tracks'.
Then run as normal. You can then just mux the audio with the re-encoded video using the MPEGtools.
