Question - Messy aspect Ratio No.42435
Ijin  2004-10-15 19:51:55 ( ID:wqt25gyx/er )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

After converting a movie from flash to avi and avi to mpeg, when played on a standard DVD player my movie is too big on all sides. I need to get the movie to fit like it's supposed to. Anyone have any ideas?

Question - 720 in, 704 out, without interpolation No.42433
rick  2004-10-14 22:58:51 ( ID:8yfrh0k0y/a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have some DV footage (720x576) that I'd like to convert for DVD. For various reasons the output mpeg encoded file must be 704x576 (not 720x576).

I'd like to retain as much quality as possible and therefore prevent tmpgenc from squeezing or intepolating the input frames - in other words, I want it to take pixels 9 to 712 from the input and use these as the EXACT 704 pixels in the output encoded file (and pixels 1 to 8 and 713 to 720 are just discarded).

What advanced settings do I need to force tmpgenc to pass the exact pixels from input to output in this way?

Clip the Frame without setting borders. Use Center as positioning methode. That's all.

Question - Fuzzy Flash No.42429
Ijin  2004-10-13 16:52:34 ( ID:wqt25gyx/er )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey Guys,

I'm new to TMPGEnc, but I can already tell that it's a pretty powerful tool. I'd like to know how to use it more in depth, which is why I'm asking here!

Here's my question.

I'm trying to convert flash movies (.swf) to mpeg, and the only way I can think of to do it is by converting them to .avi with Flashants swf2video, and from there using TMPGEnc to make the change from .avi to mpeg. Ideally, I'd like to get these flash movies onto a DVD, but for now svcd is fine. My problem is that when I convert the .avi files to mpeg2, they look fuzzy. What should I do? Change the resolution?

Also, when I try to use the DVD encoding, it splits the files up into a .m2v file and a .wav file. I know this is normal, but I'm not sure where to go from there. I'm sure you've all gotten this question a lot, and I'm sorry for asking it again, but how do I do it? I need the best quality possible!

Third, and lastly, what's the best way to burn completed avi to dvd conversions? I've got dvd x copy xpress, but that only allows you to copy dvds, not create new ones (unless I don't know how to use it right.)

Thanks in advance!

Ijin

UPDATE:

I did some searching and found out how to splice audio and video files together. That pretty much settles that question.

I'm still having video problems, though. Flash (by default) produces very crisp and clean video, which is what I want my final product to be on DVD. All I can get from TMPGEnc is fuzzy. What am I doing wrong? I use the wizard > Select DVD (NTSC) > Browse to my .avi file (which is crisp and clean) > click next > next > next > next. Then it starts encoding, and it's still fuzzy! I've got 60 minutes of flash video that I want to put on a DVD. I don't care how it gets done, only that it looks good in the end. Your help is appreciated!

Ijin  2004-10-14 16:20:16 ( ID:wqt25gyx/er )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

with no answer in sight from any of you,
I did a bit of experimenting and partially solved my transfer problem.
Apparently a larger flash resolution to start with makes for a cleaner
mpeg after compression. I suppose I'm just stating the obvious.

I used DVD Author to make the necessary .vob files and burned it.
While it looks great on my TV, a decent sized chunk of the video is out
past where the TV displays. In other words, it got cut off.

How to I make the video fit on standard ntsc tvs?

Question - TMPGENC won't start... No.42427
The Rat  2004-10-12 10:30:22 ( ID:litpulq2egc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi All,

I've got a problem with my beloved TMPGEnc-2.521.58.169-Free.

After some time..And I'm not sure that it's after a specific download, it just won't start. I can click all that I want on my shortcut, or on the .EXE directly, but all i'm gettin' is 3-4 sec. of hourglass, and then nothing...

Then I have to re-install my computer to use TMPGEnc - and that sucks..

System:Barton 2500+, All-In-Wonder 9000 GFX.

Anybody's got a clue ???

I have just downloaded the trial version of TMPGEnc Version 2.521 and am trying to convert OMA audio files to MP2 I can do this but when i play the converted file the sound goes the file carries on playing. so i wondering if this is because it ia a triel version.

ashy  2004-10-13 00:44:01 ( ID:jkiwh9woisg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No it's a protection with OMA files. The OMA decoder will only decode the first 30 seconds of the file.
You need to convert the OMA to CD audio or MP3 with Soundstage first.

B_Racer  2004-10-11 08:51:51 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You want a Subtitle-Track?
In this case, you need a Tool like DVDLab PRO, DVDAuthor + DVDAuthor GUI or IFOEdit with SRTtoSUB.

Unfortunatly, TDA, the DVDAuthoring-Tool from Pegasys, is still not able to include Subtitles.

Question - mpeg error No.42420
nimbus09  2004-10-08 22:12:37 ( ID:mxme3kgpkno )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to re-encode a mpg file from a bin and cue set. The mpg plays fine in windows media but when I try to open it in the tpmgenc 2.5 project wizard it says that the file can't open or is unsupported. I have changed the showtime setting in the enviroment tab to no avail. I also downloaded and installed the ffdshow to no avail. I have no idea what to do now. Any help is much appreciated.

ashy  2004-10-09 09:53:57 ( ID:x30mq/laqi2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm assuming you have extracted the MPEG from the BIN.
Download the codec below and put it in the TMPG folder.

Use the Merge&Cut feature in the MPEG tools.

Question - Progressive encoding and deinterlace No.42413
PaulH  2004-10-08 03:36:59 ( ID:tdvhejme8jf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

On the video tab I can mpgeg2 set Encode Mode to non-interlace. If this de-interlaces during encoding, how is it different from the Deinterlace option on the Advanced tab?

ashy  2004-10-08 12:20:05 ( ID:x30mq/laqi2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Non-Interlace simply means encode to progressive frames.
De-interlace means blend 2 seperate fields into one frame or remove one of the 2 fields.

Encoding to Non-Interlace will NOT de-interlace a movie. It will simply encode both fields into one progressive frame.
This is fine with PAL sources, however if this is done with NTSC sources it can cause interlacing artifacts such as combing on moving verticals unless the source is de-interlaced first.

PaulH  2004-10-08 16:24:30 ( ID:fxv1uqadd2f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks - that's made it clear to me. If I encode an interlaced file to progressive I should choose a de-interlace filter, and equally I shouldn't use the de-interlace filter without choosing to encode to progressive.

I am curious about why PAL would be different though - I asked about de-interlacing because I am backing-up NTSC camcorder DV to disk, I also have I some old PAL tapes that I was planning to copy too. Won't the interlacing for PAL work the same as NTSC (apart from having more scan-lines and lower frame rate)?

ashy  2004-10-08 21:53:51 ( ID:x30mq/laqi2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your right in your first assumptions.

Why the difference with PAL? Well it all depends on the source really.
I'll start with DVD.

NTSC DVD's use something called 3:2 pull down or Telecine. This is a method of turning a progressive 23.976 fps source into an interlaced 29.97 fps source to comply with NTSC standards. This process can also be reversed by using inverse telecine.
Basically what happens is flags are added to the encoded material which tells a player to repeat certain fields in a frame. What this acheives is an extra 6 frames a second.

However due to how the process works the fields become displaced, by that I mean that field 1 and field 2 are not in the same frame. They may be adjacent.
If you were to attempt to encode this type of material as progressive, you would see interlacing artifacts due to the fact that the fields are displaced.
You can see examples of this if you search for 3:2 pulldown on Google.

The difference with PAL DVD is that a process called 2:2 pulldown is used, basically all this is, is a frame split into 2 fields, however this time the fields belong to the same frame, so in reality you could treat each frame as progressive.
The frame rate is then speeded up 4% to 25fps and the audio is adjusted to compensate.

Now things change when we deal with PAL footage from an interlaced camera.
These cameras also displace the fields, so you cannot treat the frames as progressive, you need to deinterlace. The same goes for NTSC cameras.

You should find that if your source is interlaced from a camera and you encode it to interlaced then you shouldn't experience any artifacts on your TV.
If you attempt to watch this type of footage on a progressive display such as your monitor you will see the artifacts unless you use a de-interlace filter such as a BOB filter.

These things are hard to explain without examples, so I have linked to a few below.
http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/interlace.htm

PaulH  2004-10-09 01:22:08 ( ID:tdvhejme8jf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the explanation, I hadn't considered the effects of pulldown. I've also bookmarked the link so I can refer to it - it looks very useful.

Question - No sound even with the codec? No.42409
drdrig  Home )  2004-10-08 01:49:31 ( ID:fswsmuepaql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay I have a slight problem. I've been trying to put an avi onto a VCD with no success for most of the day. My problem is, no matter what I try, I cannot get ANY sound to come up. Kicker is that I can listen to the sound just fine in Winamp, but when I try to encode to MPEG1, I get nothing.

The AVI requires XviD and AC-3, which I have both installed. Any ideas?

drdrig  Home )  2004-10-08 03:10:32 ( ID:fswsmuepaql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I did find a work around, but took longer than I planned.

First I just opened the Video in Winamp, and went into the preferences then to Output. I chose Nullsoft Disk Writer. I hit play and let it go.

Since TMPGEnc has where you can choose a separate audio source, I went under C: (where I told Disk Writer to make the wav) and chose it. Worked like a charm. I definately don't want to do this again, but I know that it works.

In the future, it would be nice if someone could find a better way to make TMPGEnc properly do this.

If anyone knows of a fix, please feel free to reply.

ashy  2004-10-08 22:01:33 ( ID:x30mq/laqi2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need the filter below for AVI with AC3 in TMPG.

When I try to join two mpeg files, the final file is in the required format, except that there is strange loud beep noise where the two files are joined.
I have tried working with various files and am having the same problem in all the files.

Make sure you click the 'correct' button before joining otherwise the GOPs will not join properly.
