I tried to cut a svcd mpeg file using mpeg tools

Could not open this file with DirectShow. (0x800x40218)
Detail:ÌèI

would someone know what that means please.

shadey 2002-12-16 06:38:38 ( ID:n9t6dm4wrlf ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

sorry forgot to add . . .
im using version 2.59
and that the mpeg file is playable in WinDVD, so i dont think its a problem with the file

minion 2002-12-16 09:08:41 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Because a file will play doesn"t mean there isn"t a Problem with it ..Do you Have one of the supported Mpeg decoders installed????

shadey 2002-12-16 20:27:53 ( ID:n9t6dm4wrlf ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

minion

so what are the supported encoders or decoders then ?

minion 2002-12-16 21:59:34 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Supported Mpeg2 decoders are "Cyberlink, Logos,Sony" You can tell if you have the Right Decoders installed if you go to the "VFAPI Plugins" and one of the Mentioned Decoders will be listed there ..If you have "Power DVD" Installed then you should have the Cyberlink Mpeg decoder installed..Many poeple have problems with the editor so if the problems persist then try a different mpeg editor...

ASHY 2002-12-16 22:00:24 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Minion is talking about an MPEG2 codec which is supported by TMPG. You can find which ones in the feature list.

ASHY

shadey 2002-12-17 02:16:40 ( ID:n9t6dm4wrlf ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@ ASHY - where can i find the feature list ?

@ minion - I do have PowerDVD and WinDVD installed but neither of the decoders are list in the "Environment --- VFAPI Plugins" section ? ? ? Even with these installed - i wasnt able to open MPEG2 files for editing with TMPGEnc.

Though I managed to find a different decoder that works with TMPGEnc - I was from a codec pack i found on a site SLD but i have another problem - i manage to open the file for cutting and successfully cut a mpeg2 file - but the output file - it has 7-9 seconds of audio missing at the end of the clip.

I'm not sure, could someone explain what might the problem, please.

shadey 2002-12-17 02:18:34 ( ID:n9t6dm4wrlf ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@ minion - what other MPEG2 file editors are there that i can use to cut and join MPEG2 clips ?

minion 2002-12-17 22:14:24 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well there Lots..One easy one to use is "Womble Mpeg2VCR" But I have been useing "Power Director" Lately and it seemd to work Pretty Good..You can download an Older Full version of Mpeg2VCR at ___http://www.apachez.net/___ in the Tools section....

Question - aoLhaTer No.31975
aoLhaTer 2002-12-16 05:54:25 ( ID:qz0bjh1hneo ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when doing merge and cuts, sometimes i get unexpected results in my output file
sometimes the audio will cut off later on in the movie. this has only happened once though and is probably because of a corrupted original (sound plays all the way through in the original though)
secondly, i often get output files that are not what i set them to be
example: the movie ends after where i set the mark out point while in merge and cut

whats cuasing this?

thanks

minion 2002-12-16 09:06:40 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc can only cut files at the beginning or end of a GOP so if you set it to cut in the middle of a GOP then it will moove the cut to the end or beginning of the next GOP, and the Editor does not work correctly with files that are VBR...To avoid this use a Different Mpeg editor...

Question - Batch Processing Stops No.31973
Gizmo 2002-12-16 05:12:03 ( ID:c6hpkj5.fef ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm using Tmpgenc to do a large number of conversions from the Divx format to NTSC VCD format. If I add a good number of projects to the Batch Encoder and let it run overnight, I find that the program has unexpectedly closed itself. No error message. It always happens after a file is finished converting, and it usually happens after only a few files were processed. When I open Tmpgenc again and take a look at the Batch Encoder window, it still says "Working" under the last item processed's status tab. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Could this be a bug?

Gizmo 2002-12-16 05:13:01 ( ID:c6hpkj5.fef ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Not sure how I posted this twice. My fault, I appologize.

This happened to me once but the reason was that I tried to encode into the directory that didn't exist (it remembers the last directory used, and I deleted it since the last encode).
Hope it helps.

Gizmo 2002-12-17 12:18:15 ( ID:c6hpkj5.fef ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the problem. The directory does exist, and previous files encoded there properly. Then it just stops. Quite annoying.

Kazimierz 2002-12-29 18:53:48 ( ID:pqdef7i2ynw ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have the same problem. It will do ONE file (I am batching with sequential files as one movie option) and when finished with one, it will sit there and not respond. When reloading the "working" is there as well. If I don't do the sequential, it works fine (but the sequential save me massive time!). I have plenty of mem 512k 1.8 GHZ and over 20 gigs of hd space. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Question - "Read error occurred" problems with mpeg2 conversions No.31961
Matt 2002-12-16 04:37:40 ( ID:rqkxiuykjrh ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I recently reformatted and reinstalled my OS (Win2K) and after reinstalling TMPGEnc 2.59 I am no longer able to completely finish encoding mpeg2 files from AVI files that I created. I get the following error:

Read error occurred at address 00481AA5 of module 'TMPGEnc.exe' with 06C94CA8
(The address numbers vary)

MPEG1 files encode perfectly, without any trouble. I've tried different AVI files, all of them experience this error when converting to mpeg2. Prior to reinstalling Windows I was able to encode these same AVI files just fine.

The time it takes for the error to occur varies, even with the same AVI file. Sometimes it's 5 minutes, sometimes it's after 1 and a half hours, but it never gets beyond 25%.

I have tried setting the priority of the Directshow filter to 2 and the rest to 0 like Ashy has described in other postings similar to this.

This is very annoying because I've used TMPGEnc dozens of times without any problem.

Any suggestions?

TMPGEnc fan 2002-12-16 05:18:30 ( ID:9xlys/bhqzn ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you sure that you reinstalled SVCD codec, too?
It looks like you are trying to reencode into the format you don't have the appropriate software for.
MPEG2 requires SVCD codec to be installed prior to any viewing or conversion.
If you reinstall OS, your codec is gone which means that you must install it again.

minion 2002-12-16 08:47:41 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If he didn"t have the right codec then the Mpeg2 file wouldn"t load at all...

Matt 2002-12-16 18:28:25 ( ID:2gmdp7rlm5f ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not sure what you mean by SVCD codec, unless you are talking about the mpeg2 codec in general. I do have Cyberlink PowerDVD XP software installed to plays DVDs.

The job of TMPGEnc is to encode mpeg2 not decode it (which is what the PowerDVD software does). I was under the impression no additional software was required to do that.

The Hooded Man 2002-12-16 18:48:47 ( ID:shhppc6w5wl ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've been having this exact problem. Seems that there are alot of 'dodgy' frames in downloaded movies. Try frameserving to TMPGEnc with VirtualDub ... I got alot further with this, but it still gave the error in the end!

Finally had sucess by encoding it with Panasonic MPEG 1 encoder though!
Cheers, THM

ASHY 2002-12-16 22:17:26 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try scanning the movie for bad frames with Virtualdub. If it finds any you have the option of masking them. This will replace a bad frame with a blank one.

You should then be able to frameserve to TMPG.

Matt 2002-12-16 23:16:34 ( ID:rqkxiuykjrh ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't understand how just by reformatting/reinstalling my OS the AVI files that I personally created (through DV, no "downloaded" files) which encoded fine in TMPGEnc before, now are giving me these error messages.

Also, the same AVI files which give me the error messages encode just fine in TMPGEnc with mpeg1. For example, if I batch two jobs for the same AVI, the first job mpeg2 and the second job mpeg1, the mpeg2 job will stop at some point, but then it will perform the mpeg1 job for the same AVI just fine.

Also, the points where the crashes occur are NEVER the same, they are always different. I would think if it was a bad frame, it would always crash at the same place.

I will continue to try different AVI files (my personal ones that I created) and test this issue further.

Perhaps the codecs that come with PowerDVD were replaced by something you installed afterwards. Un- then re-install PowerDVD. Let us know if that works.

Bug report - Problem with Premiere titles and TMPEG No.31960
DieTrying 2002-12-16 02:37:41 ( ID:bqwrxsewkk2 ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I created a highlight basketball film and it looks great except for the titles which seem to block fade or stutter. They arent smooth and there are beeps in the audio. If I put a little video behind it they seem to work fine but i am unable to have a black or transparent background with white titles fade nicely like they do on the computer. When I watch the mpeg2 file on my computer it seems to play ok, but when I put onto a DVD using DVDit 2.5 PE it doesnt work correctly. At first I thought it was DVDit but I then encoded the same video in Cleaner 5 (which is terrible) the titles played fine. They faded nicely with no beeps. I hope this helps find the root of a problem.
Thanks, Alex

Question - NTSC to Pal No.31958
yamyam 2002-12-15 22:19:01 ( ID:ujv2ebjxawc ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ASHY 2002-12-15 22:46:18 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes and no. Yes it will do it. No it won't do it correctly.

You need AVIsynth for this.

Question - Movies are not moving smooth No.31955
Lanshof 2002-12-15 21:23:11 ( ID:5gm85bucvtc ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I converted DIVX movies to two VCD discs. When making the MPEG files for VCD I use Visualdub for the sound. I use the template for PAL VCD that comes with TMPG, but when I playback the movie it does not move smooth. It looks good, but when you get a scrolling picture (like arial view) you see that after maybe 1 or 2 seconds the moving stops for a very short period. First I thought I have to burn the VCD (with Nero) on lower speeds, so I burned one movie at 1x. Still no better movement.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Kind regards,

Lanshof

minion 2002-12-15 21:32:40 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sounds like you have encoded it to a Different Frame rate than the source file..Your Mpeg file has to have the same frame rate as the source AVI file...

Question - m2v to dvd - all the way! No.31950

You need DVD authoring software not TMPG.

incisions Home ) 2002-12-15 21:52:43 ( ID:uovryvujdef ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

But dont i have to convert my M2V file?!
What Authoring software would you recommend?

Regards,

incisions

ASHY 2002-12-15 22:18:29 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

An m2v file is an MPEG2 stream without audio. As long as it is in the correct format, such as framesize and framerate and GOP size you may be able import it directly into DVD authoring software.

He can also use IFOEdit, to create a DVD-Titleset from .mpv/.mpa.
This can be burned by Nero.

Question - underflow error of corrupted vob No.31947
jetty 2002-12-15 19:40:16 ( ID:cai47j4msd6 ) [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Still trying to find out why some DVD's vobs cause buffer underflow.
Dr. M reports following about the vob, which multipelxing with Tmpgenc results 200.000 s packets buffer underflow:
Can anyone tell the meaning of it? (below)
Looks like there is only bitrate changed compared to old ... but what is old? "Old" must be something inside vob as there is no ifo or other files.
