I have a *.AVI movie and lives in europe, I want to play the movie on my dvd-player BUT it´s only for PAL.
(the dvd player is a stationary, not a "computer-dvd-player")(the dvd-player).
What shall i do? I need to convert it from NTSC to PAL, how do i do that?

Your frame rate is not normal.It should be 29.97 or 30 if it's NTSC.

I am using the frame server from videotools.net to render my films directly from Adobe Premiere to TMPGEnc. Everything works very smoothly until the encoding is 99% complete and then TMPGEnc reports the following error:

"Write error occurred at address 004028E1 of module TMPGENC.exe with 00902704"

The resulting .mpg file is audio only no video. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. FYI, I am using Premiere 6.02, Video Server plugin v0.93 and TMPGEnc 2.56.

Can I use TMPGEnc to encode a sequence of bitmaps with file names indicating the frame number (001.bmp, 002.bmp,... etc.)?

Yes. Just load the first and each bitmap mwill be encoded in sequence.
If TMPG doesn't encode in sequence go to option>enviromental setting>VFAPI plugin and right click the BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG file reader and raise the priority to 2.

I have converted several AVI movies to SVCD PAL with these settings: Non-interlace, Video source: 1:1, Video arrange Method : Full screen (keep aspect ratio) etc...

When I play the finished MPEG-2 in WinDVD or others, the movie has a repetative stutter where it slows for a moment, every second. The picture and sound seem to stay in sync, but the file has this constant stammer.

When I play the AVI in WinDVD, it plays perfectly.

Is there a process or option I need to select to cure this?

Yes, my AVI file has Fram Rate : 23 frames/second.
And under MPEGs setting / Video tab, the frame setting is locked in 25 frames/s. Is it this one I should change to 23 (and how ?), and will that resolve the "stutter" problem ?
Also, will the finished SVCD play on a normal DVD player ?

If you wish to play the MPEG in a country which uses the PAL system you will have to keep the framerate 25fps.

The only way is to change the framerate of the original AVI.
First you will have to extract the audio to a wav file using virtual dub.
Load the AVI file into virtualdub and extract the audio to a wav.
Next change the framerate to 25 fps. When you do this note the time in the box at bottom right exactly and then convert it to seconds. WRITE THIS DOWN, you will need it later.

Close Virtualdub and download Cooledit 2000.
open Cool edit 2000.

When the program opens you will be presented with a box allowing you to choose 2 options. Choose options 1 and 3.

In the program click file>open and open the wav you created earlier.
Wait for it to finish then click 'Edit' and untick 'enable undo' then click 'select entire wave' next click 'Transform' and choose 'Time/pitch' from the drop down menu then click 'stretch'
In this box tick the following options:

Low precision
Time stretch (preserves pitch)

In the box that says 'Length' type in the exact figure you got in secs from Virtualdub for e.g. 4802.360 then click ok.
Wait for the program to do it's stuff then when its finished click 'file' then 'save as' and name and save your file as a wav.

This should give you a Wav file which will be the same length as the movie in the next step. Close Cool edit 2000.

To change the framerate of an AVI all you need is this program.

Change it to 25 fps then load your AVI and your new wav into TMPG and encode as normal using the SVCD PAL template.

Note: you may check that the audio is in sync with AVI by multiplexing the files with Virtualdub first.

when i try to import an .avi file it says that it can't open it and its an unsuported file format.

If this only happens with one file then it is a problem with your avi file but if it happens with every file then delete Tmpgenc and re-download and install it,hopefully this will help.....

There are three things which could be causing this.
1. Check your system foer a Sub7 virus
2. A driver from some other software
3. Software conflict.

If you don't find a virus use the system configuration utility and uncheck all programs which load at startup and then run TMPG. If it works ok you know the problem lies with one of the programs so you can progressivly re-check each program to see which one causes the error. Once you find it get rid of it.

To start the system configuration utility type click start>run and type 'msconfig' into the box.

Well, like it was said in the title , i can¡­t even open the mpeg...when I try to do it, some mistake happens, and the windows close the program...
I don¡­t know if I have it "wrong installed", but I¡­m sure that I¡­m not the only one with that problem...
But there must be someone with the answer, and that¡­s what I¡­m hopping for.

You have to have the mpeg2 plugin installed and adjust the priority high enough to read the file, and it helps ,especially with mpeg2 to de-multiplex the file and load it in seperately, but if you keep haveing problems just frame serve it from "dvd2avi"...

When encoding a divx 5 into mpeg vcd i get this error

The Divx is corrupt. You maybe able to frameserve it with Virtualdub to TMPG or if not use Virtualdub to scan for bad frames and repair the bad frame.

I have a movie that Im trying to encode so i can burn it but it keeps giving me a error 16 16 andybody have any fixes for this?

As far as I can tell its a TMPGENC error. The only time I see it is when encoding.

What is the exact error and what is the resolution of the AVI.

The first time I got the error 16 16 the resolution is 570x240. This is the number I found at the top right of the window along with the FPS. I tried to encode the file this time and got a error 537403781 180576. However this time when I tried the file I changed the aspect ratio setting to full screen keep aspect ratio. Do you have any ideas?

Ok, this is just a shot in the dark, but error may relate to the resolution of your AVI.
The resolution of the AVI is illegal. All AVI's and MPEGs need to be in multiples of 16 which means that both the horizontal and the vertical should be able to be divided by 8.
Your AVI is not and what I think the error is trying to tell you is that it isn't in a multiple of 16.

The nearest legal resolution is 576x240. It also looks like your file is Anamorphic and is in Cinemascope.
You will have a hard time getting the correct aspect ratio with this file as TMPG doesn't have a setting for it. You will need to use the 'custom' setting for the screen size which will allow you to adjust the image until it looks right.

First you will need to adjust the resolution with Virtualdub and then frame serve it to TMPG.

This should get it working ok.

This is the Most common newbie question, and to fix this problem you have to raise your "direct show" vfapi filter, you do this by going to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "vfapi plugins" then raise the "direct show file reader" to a priority of "2" and lower every thing else to "0" this should get your avi file loaded ,plus make sure you have the right codecs installed on your system...

I have TMPG installed on a Windows Me system and Windows 2000 system I cannot open a windows WMV/ASF file for encoding on the 2000 system but I can on the Windows Me system any ideas ??????

Raise the directshow filter priority to 2 and the rest to 0 and make sure you have the relevent codecs installed.
