Question - optimice mix of TMPGenc parameter set ?? No.21823
Juergen Ferch  2002-05-24 14:41:22 ( ID:u9wb4wjzvzg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi TMPGenc user,

i use TMPGenc for more then one year, have read lots of articles about creating VCD-SVCD moving, have tested several tools, utilities. My favorite combine is:

iuVCR - virtualdub - TMPEGenc

If the AVI is in perfect quality (looking at a 19'' monitor) i encode it with TMPGenc in SVCD quality (448*432 (480*576), PAL, 25Hz none interlaced for my DVD standalone player (CyberHome ADW-528).

problem:
i select the videobitrate between 1850 ... 2376 b/s, Q=30, but the quality could be a lit better. On my 16:9 100Hz TV (Phillips) i see that the quality is not perfect, like the example of TMPGenc. I experimented with several filters in virtualdub, but it's not 100% perfect. Sometimes there are some small deinterlace stripes, checked all TMPGenc deinterlace possibilities, sometimes i see less noise on unique coloured areas (e.g. in comic movies. My opinion is quality not speed.

questions:
1. do anywhere know how i shut use 'motion precision", quality factor near bitrate, contents of quantice matrix's, and so on when i encode a fast action or a slow motion movie.

2. do i have to encode in PAL interlaced mode or not interlaced mode when i play the SVCD over the standalone DVD, which outputs PAL to to TV ?

3. Is there a manual or help file of TMPGenc where i can read all possibilities in TMPGenc in details and theory ?

You can"t see interlace lines in a "pal" movie because "pal" is progressive not interlaced so you are probably seeing lines made by the "de-interlace"..the easiest way to get better quality is to raise the bitrate a little and use a "VBR" encodeing mode..and there is a manual that comes with the "plus" version....

M.Bastian  2002-05-24 23:35:42 ( ID:lh1udvptj1c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Huh?
Im a bit lost here. PAL is defintitely not allways progressive!

Juergen: If time is not an issue try 2Pass VBR 900/2000/2520. This will fit a bit over 50 mins per 80 mins CD-R and quality is fine for me.

Question - m2v.vfp No.21821
alec  2002-05-24 09:08:19 ( ID:1bmh3budul6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Minion  2002-05-24 21:27:51 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That is your "mpeg2 plugin" you have to re-install the plugin till it works...

Request - Motion and pans are jerky: motion estimation problem No.21818
John Beale  Home )  2002-05-24 06:54:14 ( ID:ip3k1bjz75a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5. It works to make MPEG-2 output for DVD, but there is a problem with motion. Motion is not completely smooth, especially on medium or fast camera pans, no matter what motion search precision setting I use. I am using CQ mode with the maximum MPEG2 bitrate for DVD (8000 Mbps). Still, the output looks somewhat jerky. Slow camera pans and locked-off shots are ok.

I have tried several MPEG-2 encoders: TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 and
also Ligos LSX-MPEG 1.5 (Premiere plug-in) and also bbMPEG (AVI2MPG2_VFW v1.24 beta 13). LSX-MPEG also showed the jerky motion, and bbMPEG did also with default settings. But bbMPEG did show very smooth output with "Advanced Video Settings"-"Variable motion estimation maximum search value" set to the highest setting (506). So, I know it can be done!

Is anyone else seeing this problem? I am hoping to see a variable maximum motion vector search value feature added to TMPGEnc Plus (like bbMPEG already has) so that it can also encode smooth output when there is fast panning or fast motion. (I also submitted this note as feedback at the Pegasys site, since I am a registered TMPGEnc plus user).

ffast  2002-05-24 07:32:53 ( ID:rq73n1voqvj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'd rather recommend VBR than CQ. As far as I know, VBR shows better result in my case which is similar to your bitrate setting etc..

Do you have any specific reason why you use CQ?
or
Do you think CQ is better than VBR because of specific reason?

I am just curious about your opinion.

Minion  2002-05-24 21:26:36 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have allways had better results with "CQ" rather than "auto -vbr"or "manual-vbr" but CQ" is a "vbr" setting but it seems to alocate more bits to the complex areas of the frame...as for the "jerky" look in fast action scenes make sure the frame rate of the avi you put in is the same as the "mpeg" you put out and the 2-pass setting seems to help a bit..but I get this problem with "tmpgenc" and with "LSX" and "xing" so I use a different encoder for mpeg2 that seems to work great for this problem.....

Question - Convert PAL SVCD to NTSC No.21816
viper  2002-05-24 05:29:42 ( ID:kb5yrnepq1j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello. I'm trying to convert a PAL SVCD to NTSC, but when I try to open the .mpg, I receive the following error message:

File can not open or unsupported. I have the latest version of TMPGenc.

The .mpg is working because I made a SVCD from it.

Any ideas on how to do convert this? TIA

Minion  2002-05-24 21:17:17 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

you need the "m2v plugin" to open "mpeg2" files in "tmpgenc" plus you will have to "de-multiplex" your file and load in your files seperately.......

Question - .dat No.21814
Isaac  2002-05-24 00:51:58 ( ID:1jlxl0elqa. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does TMPGEnc support .dat file on vcd?
How do I extract audio part from a .dat file?

Tien_Avenger  2002-05-24 18:54:03 ( ID:m3tztpafvjr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hmm.....
if you wanna rip a vcd just copy that .dat file to your hard drive...
wanna extract the audio....well if you rename the .dat to .mpg it'll still work and to extract the audio run a demultiplex.

hope this helps

...hope i'm right...

Question - resume No.21812
homey  2002-05-24 00:05:24 ( ID:obdr6lcakyo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when i stop a vcd when its playing in my dvd player im able to resume where i left off, but if i play a svcd and stop half way through i cant resume playback where i stoped it. any thoughts on how i can make my svcd compatable with the resume function? or is it just my dvd player?

Minion  2002-05-24 22:13:28 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I"m not totally sure but I think if you set chapters in your "mpeg2/svcd" file then it should stop at the chapter points when you press stop and resume from the closest chapter point..but I"m not sure I just use the pause button.....

I had a question about deinterlacing just recently and had trouble understanding the advance tab.The problem was that the advance tab's instructions to double click to open each filters menu was out of site below the main settings window. If anyone has the same problem just double click each filter and remember to check the box after you have selected the setting.Must admit I ended up with an excellent result for SVCD after a bit of experimenting.Good sofware even if the learning curve is a bit like climbing Mt. Everest for a novice.Without the forum, very difficult.

Free talk - Sonic ReelDVD / DVDiT and aspect ratio error messages No.21810
Richard  2002-05-23 22:11:09 ( ID:kwfsrhnna/w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There have been a few posts in the past from people who have been unable to use TMPGenc output in Sonic ReelDVD, getting an error message saying the file was rejected for not being either 4:3 or 16:9.

I have never had a problem, until today when I accidentally tried to use ReelDVD with a program stream file (.mpg) and this error message appeared.

ReelDVD and possibly DVDiT only accept video streams (.m2v), so when encoding either click the "Video only" radio button under stream type, or if you have already encoded program streams, use the Demultiplex tool to recover the video stream.

Minion  2002-05-23 22:26:57 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is sometimes caused by the "angel potion" codec pack, if you have this codec on your system then get rid of it, and I heard that lowering the priority if your "direct show" filter might help, but I don"t know why....

homey  2002-05-23 23:05:11 ( ID:obdr6lcakyo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

yeah it was "angel potion" codec that was giving me problems, but all is good now. thanks minion!!!

Question - multiple audio streems No.21804
Mickey  2002-05-23 21:29:42 ( ID:ibc389bl1.n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I want to make selectable audio streems in my SVCD (like language on a dvd), how can this be don with Tmpegenc ? Has anybody some experience with this ?

Minion  2002-05-23 22:24:25 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have never done it but I think you can "multiplex" multiple audio streams into your video file with the "multiplex" option......I know some authoring programs have a multiple audio stream option.......

Mickey  2002-05-24 19:46:21 ( ID:ibc389bl1.n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the tip minion, i have to demultiplex the mpeg file first then multiplex it with the new audio.
Do you know also how you can make subtitels ?

Question - TmpgEnc and DVDit No.21801
Freddy Aldersons  2002-05-23 20:02:20 ( ID:p/ltcs3ailc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

using the evaluation version of TmpgEnc to produce a DVD-R
DVDit does not accept a .mpg file of about 700 MB encoded
by TmpgEnc from a .avi produced by premiere.

The error message from DVDit says that no valid decoder
could be found. A small .mpg produced by TmpgEnc is
recognized.

Is this coming from the evaluation version ?

TIA

Minion  2002-05-23 22:21:40 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have "sonic dvdit 2.5 pe" and it sucks the big one it wont accept anything I try to put in it, so I switched to "ulead dvd workshop" and it has no problems with any thing that I throw at it.........so maybe try a switch...

Freddy Aldersons  2002-05-24 02:47:00 ( ID:lj5r.rr2sfl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks,

I tried the evaluation version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory
and got no problem with a TMPGenc mpeg2.

Question - sound No.21799

i have converted a avi file to mpeg. the sound of the mpeg file is gone. How can i get the sound correctly

Minion  2002-05-23 22:18:56 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your audio could be a unsupported format. you will have to extract the audio from your "avi" with "virtua dub" and convert it to "wav" format, then use that as your audio source,.....
