Question - problems with mpg/vcd sound quality No.18346
adi  2002-04-07 23:49:58 ( ID:ap4aiokjg1r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

im making mpgs for standard pal vcd using tmpgenc v2.5 and the sound quality of any resulting mpg i make is poor, like it has a low sample rate. All the loud or high pitched noises become tinny. also the resulting mpg is very quiet, after burning onto cd and playing on my vcd player through my tv i have to turn the tv volume up to 3/4 to hear the sound. any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

Adi.

in the audio section of "tmpgenc" you can up the volume so you don"t get that problem, and make sure you use 224kbs audio.....hope this helps.....sherlock

Just answered this one in article No.18360. Let me guess are you using DVD2AVI by any chance to create a wav file? If you are this program always seems to create quiet wavs.
Best way is to use another proggy for the audio such as VOB2AUDIO or run it through Virtual dub and change the sample rate and volume with that, but check out the article above first.

sorry I forgot to mention, the source file is an avi from Premiere, ive tried the adjusting volume level in tmpenc thats sorted out the volume, but it still sounds tinny and not quite right, the sample rate of the original avi is 44100hz and i have tmpgenc set up to 224 kbits stereo, ive checked the avi and it plays just fine, this is driving me mad! :)

When converting asf files to VCD, TMPGEnc freezes. I have tried repairing the files using various tools but to no avail. Is there any way to find out what is going on? Is it a TMPGEnc bug that is waiting to be solved? Any idea would help lessen the frustration. Thanks.

sherlock  2002-04-07 23:04:42 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

"tmpgenc" isn"t really compatable with asf. files but you can convert it to avi. with asf tools...or you can try re-nameing your asf to avi...but the first option is yer best bet.....

jl3838@hotmail.com  2002-04-08 04:30:37 ( ID:vn45lxqdoyo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks. Would I lose any quality when converting from asf to avi and then to VCD? I have converted one file from asf to avi using VirtualDub 1.3a as suggested in another forum. I found the video and audio sync was off a little. Is that common for this kind of conversion?

sherlock  2002-04-08 05:35:43 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I wouldn"t know cuz I havent tried it,but try "asf tools"...

techno  Home )  2002-04-08 08:46:54 ( ID:gye7n0apz7c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, you would notice MORE of the bad quality in VCD!

Ashy  2002-04-08 11:56:44 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Frameserve the ASF from Virtualdub to TMPG this will prevent you from losing quality by converting to an unecessary AVI.

ASHY

jl3838@hotmail.com  2002-04-08 18:06:30 ( ID:turrszlrevw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks to you all for the suggestions. Before frameserving, do I have to "clean up" the asf file? I also suspect there may be bad spots in the asf file that could be causing the freeze too. Would TMPGEnc be able to overcome bad spots when frameserving? Please advise. Thanks.

sherlock  2002-04-08 20:56:17 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if there are bad spots in your file "tmpgenc" might crash or freeze on you but you wont know till you try....

Question - Problem with Studio 7 files No.18332
simont  2002-04-07 21:40:01 ( ID:bezu9iva2kf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm another Studio 7 user, capturing on a pinnacle dc10 card.

The problem I'm having is a little strange. I'll capture video, and
try to convert it with tmpgenc plus.

SOMETIMES when I try and open a file, tmpgenc plus will just hang -
stops responding, but not consuming any CPU.

Other times, it seems to work ok, after about 10-20secs pause.

ALL THE TIME, if I do successfully convert a file, the next file I go
to open will cause tmpgenc plus to hang.

I have tried a couple of codecs, morgan, picvideo (I think - it has a
watermark over it if you haven't registered it), and one other - none
of which seem to work.

I have tried this on both Win98Se and Win2k

techno  Home )  2002-04-08 08:51:18 ( ID:gye7n0apz7c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try increasing the AVI VFW and the AVI opendml and the directhow filter to a higher priority in the environment settings. This may solve the problem, if not then the stuff captured with your card is not compatale with TMPGENC.

Did u capture using YU12?

Use these settings to capture for best quality and performance:

320*240
YU12
NO RECOMPRESSION
CD quality audio 44100Hz
22/30fps

This is what I use and have been able to acheive high quality. Take a look at my sample, re-encoded in MPEG2 4 times:

floating point invalid operation at 0x0ca45de1, real sweet app here, seems like the bugs are rampent here with the newest version.

sherlock  2002-04-07 21:16:40 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the floating point error has to do with your "movie file" not the program, and if you knew how to use the program you wouldn"t get errors.........

and you didn"t ask a question you did a "BUG REPORT" with a bit of your own critisism,"nice app here" quote......

LynyrdSky  2002-04-08 12:01:59 ( ID:b3nivuo.p0f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If the app was not at fault it would not give me a bug report. If it was the movie file it would not play in media player, it would not play in winDVD. It plays and opens in everything but this. This app also refuses to open any mpg file correctly leaving out the audio if I am lucky to open the mpg at all.

Question - AVI -> MPEG2 -> DivX ? No.18323
Fred  2002-04-07 19:32:20 ( ID:rjjjqtkcdig )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!

I have tried to convert an avi file to DivX with quite poor quality. It seems to be better to convert the avi-file to MPEG2 first, and then convert this to DivX. Can anyone confirm this? And if it is better, why? Which tools are best to use when convert to DivX (FLASKMpeg)?

If i compare the quality/size from TMPGEnc¡s AVI->MPEG1 with the AVI->DivX 3.** i don¡t see any better quality in the DivX (standard VCD 2.0, and then convert to DivX same size). Is all talk about the superior DivX quality just nonsens????

Thanks
Fred

I use "virtua dub" to convert to divx, the quality seems good on my system,....

I don't know much about DivX, but I do know FLASKMpeg is not as fast nor does it generally produce the same high quality as TMPGENC.

Techno  Home )  2002-04-07 19:44:07 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

DIVX 3.11alpha is better, low file size and best quality.

use vidomi

yes, MPEG2 to DIVX is great cause it makes the file much "stabler"

It might help if the audio and video files are of approximately the same length.

I often encode MP3 audio with MPG video (PAL VCD) and have no problem.

Perhaps try converting the video first and then try adding the audio to the converted video file.

if it is DIVX v5 then TMPGENC is NOT compatible with it.

uninstall DIVX v5 codec, install DIVX v4.11 or v4.12 then it should work, otherwise it will not work thus TMPGENC is not compatible with DIVX v5

I keep seeing exeryone posting that Tmpgenc does not work with Divx5...I have converted several movies in Divx5 pro format with Tmpgenc to SVCD with no errors and the movies play back fine?

So what is the incompatibility suppose to be about?

Thanks,
Mike H.

uninstall DIVX 5, install DIVX v4.11 or v4.12 and then encode, there should be video and audio together.
