Question - chapter creation for a concert dvd No.60821
Jon  2008-12-04 18:33:42 ( ID:uudcl1vskzw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've looked through the topics and I don't think I found this one.

My problem
I have a two hour concert that I added chapter breaks to in between songs

I want a title page that says "play all" and "song selection"

if you click "song selection" it takes you to the next page and shows the list of songs(chapters) and you can click whatever song(chapter) you want to watch.

I keep getting a page for each chapter instead of just one page listing all the chapters. I don't need thumbnails either, just the name of the song

thanks

Jon, I have done this same exact thing several times. When I get home tonite, I will try and document the steps for how I did it.

thanks!
I'll check back later. :)

Here is what I did. First off, I have just one long track that I edited and split into several chapters. I am going to assume that the menu has not yet been created.

- Click the "Menu" button.

- Select the 2nd option, "Create a custom menu..." and click Next.

- Select "Structure the menu in classic mode" amd click Next.

Across the top you will see a row of the various menus and other basic elements of the menu you will create. Highlight them one at a time and below you will see the various types of options for the selected menu or element. You'll then have to choose the option for the Top menu you like. For the Trac menu, choose one that is just text and has enough chapters shown to cover the chapters you have. If you select one that has less, you will get more than one track menu. Make your desired selections for your Navigation button, Thumbnail frame, and Background and then click Next.

- Select "Top and track menu" on the next screen and click Next.

- Choose the desired settings on the next screen that control what happens when the disc is inserted and track playback ends. Click OK.

You should now just get a top menu and a track menu. If you get more than one track menu, start over again by clicking the "Launch Menu Wizard" button and then selecting "Yes". This time try a Track menu thumbnail that has more chapters shown on it. It took me several tries to get mine right, and once I did I saved the menu as a template for later use on other similar projects.

Hope this helps!

Question - Can you edit audio separately from video in TMPGEnc? No.60819
theus  2008-11-21 20:12:03 ( ID:vr16f0/jioo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Right now if I want to edit a dvd to get rid of unwanted words, I have to cut the video along with it. Is there a way to just mute several words without having to cut the video?

Bob  2008-11-24 16:38:17 ( ID:ucbus1wjjgl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't know of any way to do this within TDA3. You could extract the audio from the video source and then edit the words out in the extract, save the edited extract to a WAV file, and then use that edited extract as the primary audio source instead of the original audio from the video source.

Question - Video Menu in DVD Author 3 No.60817
Devin  2008-11-17 18:42:59 ( ID:g/fxkmn1u2w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've been using DVD Author for awhile now and have a pretty good grasp on all the features. Something I've never tried with it though is making the background be a video clip. I'm working on a movie dvd and wanted a specific scene to be the background. Every time I load the video file into the background and then do the simulation only the audio plays and the background freezes on the first frame.

Is this just a simulation thing and once authored the clip would play? Anyone had this problem before? I've tried AVI and MPEG versions of the clip with the same results.

I'm about to just set the thumbnail to the scene I want, enlarge it, and cut the audio to the scene and make it the BGM.

I would really appreciate all suggestions.

Devin  2008-11-17 21:00:16 ( ID:g/fxkmn1u2w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Never mind. I tried outputting it to see the authoring of the menu and the video played in the preview window.

..should have just tried that in the beginning I suppose.

Question - Menu with only one page No.60815
alejo  2008-11-14 15:04:25 ( ID:6eua59lfztm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to create a menu with only one page. In that page I want to put the access to every chapter of the movie (in my case, only two) and audio and subtitle option.
I coudn't do this. All the examples that I can try, put the subtitle an audio option in a separte page the the chapters options.

It is possible to create a menu with only one page that includes all this options?

Thanks.

tkrave  2008-11-14 23:01:03 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That's not possible. The subtitle and audio options will always be on a separate page from the chapters/tracks.

When I go to make the menu I get a error notice. It says "System

Error 8" not enough storage to process this request. Any thoughts?

tkrave  2008-11-14 23:00:23 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How much free hard drive space do you have? It may need more space on the hard drive to store temporary files or something.

Question - Menu structure / skip scene buttons No.60809
DarkForge  2008-11-11 11:59:35 ( ID:0izuwwcvcyw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi guys. I've been trying to put together a menu for a DVD and am having just a little problem.

Basically my plan was to have 2 menu pages: the very top menu that has the Play All and Select Track button, and (via the Track button) another page where I can choose which video I want to play.

At the same time, I also wanted to be able to use the previous/next scene buttons on my DVD remote to skip forward/back through the different clips at will.

I've tried this two ways:

1) Put each video clip under a separate track. I can get the menu structure right (Top Menu ---> Track Menu), and each link in the Track Menu goes straight to playing the desired clip, but the prev/next scene buttons on the program's Simulation Mode won't work.

2) Put all clips under the same track. The prev/next scene buttons on Simulation Mode will work, but now I have an extra menu page (Top Menu ---> Track Menu ---> Chapter Menu). With just one track, the Track Menu really serves no purpose at all - I want to cut out the middleman, if you see what I mean, ideally going directly from Top Menu to Chapter Menu - but I can't get rid of the Track Menu.

Is there any way I can achieve both goals here?

I hope all of that made sense! lol. If you need me to clarify anything, just ask. Thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide. :-)

tkrave  2008-11-13 20:23:22 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

For your second scenario, how about getting rid of the Top menu? Then you'd have just the Track and chapter menus. Since you'd only have one track, there shouldn't be a problem.

DarkForge  2008-11-15 14:18:39 ( ID:0izuwwcvcyw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the reply, tkrave, I'm grateful for the assistance. I had a bit of a further fiddle around, and managed to get the menus laid out as you had said.

In the end though I stuck with Option 1. When I tried Option 2 with putting all clips under the same track, Simulation Mode took longer to load everything up and play something (there were 75 clips, so this may have had something to do with it! lol). I don't know whether this delay would've happened on the actual DVD itself as well, and didn't want to run the risk.

Turns out Option 1 works out great though - because the prev/next buttons on the remote ARE working and allowing me to skip between tracks at will. Simulation Mode only had the buttons working for chapters and not tracks (which is why I was worried in the first place) but the actual DVD does do it. Colour me surprised!

So I guess all is well with the world again, just a little white lie the program was telling me. But again, a sincere thank you for your help, tkrave. I appreicate you taking the time to lend a hand. :-)

tkrave  2008-11-17 19:39:31 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No problem, darkforge! I'm glad the first option worked out for you.

Yeah, the simulation isn't a perfect simulation of a real DVD player, so sometimes you just gotta go for it and write the disc.
It probably took long to load because of the 75 clips you had. I think it has to cache the videos so that's probably what the delay was.

Question - Stuck on Building Authoring Information... No.60808
VideoUser  2008-11-08 00:53:43 ( ID:i2h9hxk/mfa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I have 2 or more tracks, it gets to the output and displays Building Authoring Information... and then does nothing. It wasn't frozen, I could move the screen around but no hard drive activity or CPU usage. I left it there for over 24 hours and it was still on there. If I did both tracks individually, it worked fine. Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Question - DVD Author 3 goes "No stream available. (error code 0x80048001) No.60806
DVD_maker  2008-11-07 16:09:40 ( ID:4tul3nbhwlg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I purchased the DVD Author 3, but it won´t work... The output gets stuck and quits.

I saw that I had some codec problems with Premiere (I investigated the computer with a codec-searching program called Sherlock), so just to make sure I got rid of the problem I uninstalled Premiere temporarily. To see if I could get DVD Author to work without Premiere, and if the re-installing of Premiere would cause new problems.

But now with no visible codec-problems (with Sherlock anyway), DVD Author has the same problems. I re-installed DVD Author, and it made no difference.

Does anyone know what this error code means?

myself  2008-11-28 07:00:12 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think that your source files are a DV-AVI type 1, when you encode
this kind of file ''No Stream Available (Error Code 0x80048001)''
message appears.
Have you installed a DV-AVI codec?, you must install a
DV-AVI codec, for be able to read this files.
Please try by installing a DV-AVI codec.
Here is the link that you can install then try.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Panasonic_DV_Codec.htm

Also try to convert the DV-AVI file to type-2 stream
with DV converter.
You can try with this freeware converter, here is the link:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Canopus_DV_File_Converter
After the conversion:
-Try again in the DVD Author 3 with the output file from DV converter.

Question - "playback does not catch-up" No.60803
quintillius  2008-11-07 07:35:19 ( ID:bswpkxn3i5m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've successfully imported DV video from my camcorder into DVD Author 3 using the source wizard. I continually get "playback does not catch-up" when playing the video in the editor.

I *don't* have a problem when playing video in the editor imported from a DVD.

tkrave  2008-11-13 20:14:13 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think this happens with DV and HDV video. It just means that it can't play the video at normal speed for whatever reason. You can still edit and do anything else like normal, it just might take longer to navigate through your footage.

snookie  2009-04-06 18:56:04 ( ID:4bbk5n9bato )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

From my experience, 2 situations may cause the 'playback does not catchup' issue. One is when the partition when your program or data resides is severely fragmented. Use the Disk Defrag tool to confirm. Another is when the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller drivers are corrupted. This can be solved simply by reinstalling the drivers. In both situations, your harddisk will slow down tremendously. I use Nero's DVD Copy module to test the drive speed whenever such situation is encountered.

Bug report - Issue With Using JPEG For Menu Background No.60801
EphMan  2008-10-31 00:54:18 ( ID:br550ppgo8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Using TMPGEnc DVD Author 3

I made a 16:9 menu and changed the background from one within TMPGEnc's templates collection to an already properly 16:9 cropped JPEG.

When authored and sampled on software player and hardware player there's a thick white lone visible all the way across the top.

What is causing this? I can post a screenshot of it if need be. I also still have my project and all the files associated with it still here on my computer.

Question - Invalid Sample Format Error No.60799
VideoUser  2008-10-30 18:58:30 ( ID:i2h9hxk/mfa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am having a problem creating a DVD-Video. I use 4 video clips and when it gets to the 2nd video clip, I get an Invalid Sample Format error. But when I try to just create it using 2 video clips, including the one that had the error, it works fine.

Anyone have a solution?

tkrave  2008-11-13 20:17:19 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are the formats of the 4 videos different from each other? Try separating the clips into separate tracks and see if that works. For instance, put the 2 that work fine in one track and the other 2 in another track.
