Request - Edit menu in authored DVD No.49032
Diane  2004-02-22 16:50:27 ( ID:4mozt2q.whk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would like to be able to fix a typo on a menu on a DVD that was authored with TMPGEnc DVD Author. I'd saved the Project, but no longer have the source mpg...

nir  2004-04-27 15:49:56 ( ID:ruuok3toz3m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'd also like to know this, just ran into the same problem.

I didn't edit the "Title" part in the menu template and no longer have the mpgs due to space restrictions.

Is this possible at all?

Bug report - Menus not compatible with CyberHome CH-DVD 300/S player No.49030
Chris  2004-02-22 05:50:48 ( ID:sxxo584nvm6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I created a DVD with menus using the Cloud 1 template, and the motion menu feature disabled. When I try to play this DVD in my CyberHome CH-DVD 300/S
standalone player, the menu appears with the first selection highlighted, but the UP/DOWN/LET/RIGHT buttons on my remote have no effect. It is still possible--but very inconvenient--to navigate through the DVD using only the 1 - 10 number buttons on the remote.

Menus on standard commercial DVDs work properly with my player. Is this a bug in DVD Author?

Chris  2004-02-23 01:39:28 ( ID:sxxo584nvm6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here's another bit of info. If I create a DVD that starts up with a track menu, then it will not play in my Sampo DVE-660. But if I create the DVD to start by playing the first track instead, it works (even though the menu is included and also works). These DVDs were burned at 1x with a Sony DRX-510UL and Nero 6.

Free talk - Change highlight color of buttons No.49029
Borax  2004-02-20 15:52:09 ( ID:lhftqaoa9cm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To change the yellow color of selected buttons lets say to blue just load the file containing the menu (i.e. Vts_XX_0.vob) into a hexeditor and change the bytes 0xA3 and 0xA4 from 44 44 to another value like 33 33 for blue, 22 22 for green or 11 11 for orange. (I have not tried out other colors yet)
Example:
1. "Normal" HighLight color yellow

2. HighLight color set to blue:

results in

("Chapter #1" is selected)
The change applies to all buttons in this menu. If you want to change the HighLight color for different buttons to diffenent colors, some more bytes have to be changed. Have a look to this article:

Question - Audio in the background No.49020
anonymous  2004-02-05 14:41:10 ( ID:7vay9rphki6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't understand the part about adding audio to a still background. What does it mean by "disable the background option, the first image remains and the BGM only is played"? What is the background option?

Anyone know what this means?

FAQ

It is impossible with TMPGEnc DVD Author, a specific source file has to be created. With TMPGEnc Plus, choose a still image as video source file and a wav sequence as an audio source. Encode in mpeg program stream format with sound in mp2 and use the resulting file as background. Disable the background option, the first image (still image) remains and the BGM only is played.

ChewtoyPDX  2004-02-05 18:53:33 ( ID:rkfkkg9q9dn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

On the motion menu options, there is a checkbox for that option.

anonymous  2004-02-06 04:53:58 ( ID:7vay9rphki6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the reply, but I don't understand. Which option is the "background option"?

"Use motion menu"?
or is it maybe under that,
"Additional pictures for backgrounds etc."?

What do I enable and what should be disabled? What about the three boxes underneath "Use motion menu"?

Chewtoypdx  2004-02-06 17:53:01 ( ID:rkfkkg9q9dn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Uncheck the use additional item, but then be sure to check use BGM on the same screen. I don't have the screen in front of me right now, so I can't tell you exactly what it says.

Andreas  2004-02-29 13:28:37 ( ID:.e.lumeuie2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!

Thats what I don't understand, too!
I have a jpg image as menu background and I want to have music in the background.
When I select an mpg-file as menu background, I'm forced to select an
image from that mpg-file, but I want to keep my jpg-image, I just want the
audio stream out of this mpg file!
Is there a way how to do this?

Thanks for your answers!
Bye!
Andi

Chewtoypx  2004-03-01 21:14:25 ( ID:rkfkkg9q9dn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Then use the image you want as your background as part of the mpeg file that contains the music you also want. I use tmpgenc plus to create the mpg file with the background image and music i choose.

hey, guys, i have a problem - i'm trying to create bgm file with music for the backround - how can i attach audio to jpg file?

Question - invalid number code error No.49018
michele  2004-02-02 20:46:45 ( ID:incf5pfryma )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using TMPGenc DVD Author V 1.5.19,
I have Authored a file to VOB format from mpeg, but when I try to burn it I keep getting an 'invalid number code' error.
I have also tried to burn with nero, which also gives an error.
Is there anyway to find out where the problem is?
Thanks
Michele

Jack  2004-02-10 09:03:42 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What is your source MPEG?
Is it captured from TV for instance?
Well, it's possible that the problem relies in it.

Question - Adding Selectable Subtitles No.49011
Sakuya  2004-02-02 05:08:37 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How do we add selectable subtitles to a DVD? Can I do that using DVD Author? I have 2 subtitle files that works together: an IDX and a SUB file. Any help is appreciated!

B_Racer  2004-02-02 08:35:53 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, you can't use TMPGEnc DVD Author for that.
If you dont need Menus, use IFOEdit. There are several Guides on the Net, also for Sub-Converting.

Sakuya  2004-02-02 19:44:01 ( ID:yjvzugeaiog )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, I was thinking of making simple still menus instead of just pressing the Subtitle button on the remote. :( Is IFOedit still an option?

B_Racer  2004-02-04 14:13:43 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, IFOEdit can only create Videos on DVD, no Menus.

Sakuya  2004-02-05 02:58:38 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So..how would I go about making a simple menu with selectable subs option?

B_Racer  2004-02-05 13:39:55 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Only the expensive DVD Authoring-Tools are able to do that, like Scenarist or Maestro.
Some other Tools are able to create Menus and Videos with Subtitle- and different Audio-Streams, but they can't create Menus for selecting Subtitles.
Maybe the combination of IFOEdit and DVDLab will work, but that's hard to learn stuff.

Sakuya  2004-02-08 06:26:03 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually, I found this program called Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro that might do it. It lists that it can do menus and subtitles. I have another question:

How do you go about making trailers? And then you can have them on a menu where you select which one to play?

Question - Working With Non-Standard DVD Resolutions No.49009
Kevo  2004-02-01 13:13:17 ( ID:5z3z1qeev/. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm using a file from DVD+ disc that has already been converted from SVCD to DVD standard.

Using TMP Author I can convert the above to an mpg file, edit, view, create chapters etc but I can't output it as It says the the resolution is non-DVD Standard (480 x 576). Is there a way of altering this res info to say 352x576? I've tried 'DVD patcher' but them TMP Author wouldn't read it at all!

Many Thanks

B_Racer  2004-02-02 08:37:14 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I always use DVDPatcher to do that. Never had any problems. Patch the first Header only and demultiplex Audio and Video first.

Question - SOUND PROBLEM No.49007
WILLIAM F, PATTERSON  2004-01-31 05:45:34 ( ID:hgcse6m5zk6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I AM HAVING AUDIO PROBLEMS WITH MY DVD AUTHORING PROGRAM WHICH I RECENTLY PURCHASED FOR $68. I HAVE WONDERFUL CLEAR SOUND BEFORE AUTHORING THE FILE SO AS TO MAKE IT READY TO BURN TO A DVD. AFTER AUTHORING AND BEFORE BURNING THE A DVD RECORDABLE, THE SOUND SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMEING FROM A BARRELL. IT SOUNDS VERY MUCH LIKE A REVERBERATION GENERATOR GETS TURNED ON WHEN NONE EXISTS. HAVE YOU ANY ANSWER TO MY PROBLEM AS I GET GOOD RESULTS AS FAR AS THE PICTURE QUALITY AND VOB FILES ARE CONCERNED. THE AUTHORING PROGRAM ALWAYS MAKES A WAVE GENERATED SOUND TRACK. MY INPUT IS CD PLAYER OR LINE IN, BOTH GIVE RESULT STATED ABOVE.

B_Racer  2004-02-02 08:38:45 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First, don't shout and learn to post!
Second, without the info about the Audio-Source, nobody can help you.

Question - BGM No.49004
ChewtoyPDX  2004-01-30 01:49:56 ( ID:lxiquvmqt5j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can you tell me if the ac-3 plug-in will convert all audio, INCLUDING, audio used for bgm?

Jack  2004-02-10 09:44:43 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, you can only convert between these formats :
MP2 - Linear PCM - AC3 ...
as it it is for TMPGEnc DVD Author.

tjb  2006-12-18 18:48:34 ( ID:gqrwl0h846r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I noticed a question someone asked "Can you tell me if the ac-3 plug-in will convert all audio, INCLUDING, audio used for bgm?"

This is just a hunch, but I think the guy was asking this "why does dvd author render ac3 audio for tracks, but when it renders BGM audio it turns even ac3 original audio from a video file into PCM?"

frankly, I too have the same issue. I have a small mpg2 video file i made using a still image, mixed with a 30second audio clip. the audio is in AC3 format. i use this 30 second video file as my background menu for my dvd. and of course, i check off "use audio from background video as BGM"

in my environmental settings i have selected both options to re-encode any pcm or mp2 audio into ac3. YET dvd author always turns my ac3 audio from the BGM into PCM. can you imagine, even after having both options checked off to convert ANY pcm or mp2 audio into ac3 AND using ac3 format to BEGIN with - it turns my ac3 BGM into PCM!

what GIVES here?

Question - DVD Author Sync problems with PVR 250 No.49001
Ranger One  2004-01-30 01:09:11 ( ID:a1ftuqivob6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Capture device: Hauppage PVR 250

I'm capturing videotape concerts to burn as dvd's. I have no sync problems what so ever using DVD Movie Factory 2 to author. I much prefer TMPGENC DVD Author for it's menu options & styles. However everytime I try to author with DVD Author I get a/v sync problems. I've tried demultiplexing & multiplexing with TMPGENC PLus & that file to author > still have sync problems.

Using the following to capture:
"Output Type": Program Stream
720x480
VBR 6400 - 8000
GOP 15
Stereo MPEG1 Layer2
48KHz
384kbs

Is there a way to fix this problem? I've seen many posts about sync problems with DVD Author?

Solutions????

hustbaer  2004-02-03 00:56:01 ( ID:gbemr.lp.t6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi!

i'm afraid i cannot help you well, but at least i can tell you what the problem is, and give you an educated guess, why it works with (some) other software.

so.
the problem is, that your audio and video capture-rates do not match.
that's nearly always the case when different boards are used to cap audio and video, means video by some tv-card/gfx-card with vivo"/... and audio by the soundcard.

so the theoretical capture-rates are lets say 29.97fps/44100Hz, but the real caputre-rates differ from that a little - maybe 30fps/44100Hz or 29.97fps/44066Hz or something like that.

since most capture-apps use the audio-track as reference-time, the video-rate will be adjusted to match the audio stream - giving you a video stream of 29.998fps or 29.968fps or similar.
but since neither of these are MPEG-standard, the capture-app will write the mpeg-headers with the theoretical framerate of 29.97fps, but the gop-timecodes will recieve the timestamps calculated from the audio-stream, which will be the real-framerate, that is off by some amount.

and when you finally feed the file into tmpgenc-dvd-author, it will remultiplex the audio and video streams, using the "standard NTSC" framerate told by the mpeg-header, and NOT the gop-timecodes, which is why you will get a a/v lag which will increase over time.

(BTW: this is also the reason why you get a/v sync when you remux the file using tmpgenc mpeg encoder - you don't even need to author - try the remuxxed file in media-player - it should give you the same sync problems)

the reason it might work with some other app is, that probably not all author-apps rewrite the GOP timecode when remuxing files.
but that way you would end up having a non-standard conform dvd-disc, that might introduce strange behaviour when played by some picky hardware-players.
also, because the video-framerate is not standard, video will be jerky, even if it might be very subtle (depends on the amount of the a/v-rate mismatch when capturing).

some imperfect "solutions" i can offer you:
* cut the mpeg file into small pieces like 5 minutes or so, and add them to the project as independant files (you can use the same title though!)
* demux the file to audio and video, convert audio to wav, and use some tool like "sox" to strech the audio-stream so that it fits the length of the video-stream. then reencode to mp2, 48khz, and use that file as audio-source for tmpgenc dvd author. - you can use virtualdub to tell you what stretch-factor you will need (open mpeg file, menu: "video"|"frame rate..." -> read the value in braces after "change so video and audio durations match" -> calculate "that_value/29.97" (or 25 for PAL) -> that is your stretching factor)
* capture using a combined a/v capture-board
* use a capture-app that can sync on video, and dynamically resample audio for that purpose

hope that helps!

bye,
--hustbaer
