Question - TAW5 BBS - Extreme pixellation No.68677
Mr Chris  2014-09-06 01:17:04 ( ID:qicxrvqzthm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Further to an earlier post of mine, can anyone with five minutes to spare please help me with a quick experiment? Firstly, please download this 30-second MPEG:

http://wikisend.com/download/608768/Source.mpg

Now please follow the same steps that I did, and if in doubt, leave everything on its default setting:

1) Launch Authoring Works 5 and import the file (Source.mpg) into track 1.

2) Open the Cut & chapter edit tab, and insert chapters at 00:19:00 and
00:25:84. (These are on scene changes that fall between I-frames.)

3) Click on OK, and then choose Transition edit. Set it to Fade Out/In (Black),
2 seconds. Click on OK.

4) Move on to the Menu stage, but choose "No Menu". Then skip straight to Output, and click on Start output.

5) When that's done, navigate to the folder you've just built and view VTS_01_1.VOB in your media player.

Now, here's the important bit: is there any pixellation/blockiness/drastic drop in picture quality around the chapter points and transition? Or is it practically identical to Source.mpg? Here's what was in my output folder:

http://wikisend.com/download/347894/VTS_01_1.VOB

Any idea why mine is so poor? How does yours compare? Your findings, observations and suggestions will be greatly appreciated - many thanks in advance.

Question - TAW5 BBS - Ways to add subtitles No.68671
nucelar  2014-09-04 21:33:47 ( ID:/.vj3vhs7gm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I've used the subtitle page to add subtitles via SRT import. This function is very limited, it does not recognize basic formatting like italics, which is a HUGE bummer.

Is there an alternative way to add subtitle streams, for example multiplexing them beforehand in the video file, using mkv or similar?

Question - TAW5 BBS - Can saved Blu Ray projects be used for DVD? No.68666
Philm  2014-09-02 02:12:59 ( ID:wy68mxm4woa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I have made a clip in both MPEG 2 (Standard Def) and H.264 (High Def). I have successfully made a Blu Ray and saved the project. I want to produce the same for a DVD.

Is there a way to save time by using all the menu work created for the Blu Ray for the DVD? Can I open the Blu Ray project and change output to DVD, swapping over the H.264 clip for the MPEG 2 on the Source page?

Thanks

tkrave  2014-09-03 04:44:11 ( ID:.yfti6punfa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Unfortunately, no. This is a feature that is requested quite a bit; hopefully they can implement it in the next version.

The best you can do now is import your BD (disc or image) so you don't have to redo the tracks/subtitles/etc. But the menu you will have to redo.

tkrave  2014-09-03 08:52:15 ( ID:.yfti6punfa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually, I was wrong!
There is a way to convert a BD project to DVD.
On the Start window, click on "Open with Conversion" button, then select your project file.
You will then be able to change it to a DVD or AVCHD project. Things that can't exist for the new format will be deleted (such as pop-up menus if converting from BD to DVD).

Obviously, if you need to create a BD and DVD, you should start with the BD and then convert down to DVD.

Philm  2014-09-05 19:26:27 ( ID:rbw1hh9wv2g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks, I'll try that

BONLEV  2016-03-13 19:13:48 ( ID:ttxqbpqpdof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

but open with conversion from blu ray to dvd takes a long time? Why?
the blu ray takes more than 12 hours (video was 3hours 30minutes long)

So I hoped after that to convert to a DVD9 it would be much faster but will take again 5 hours.

My pc is a Intel I7 with 16gig ram.

Question - TAW5 BBS - Smart rendering pixellation No.68664
Mr Chris  2014-08-31 04:04:00 ( ID:qicxrvqzthm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I perform a full render of a video in Authoring Works 5, it works perfectly. When it comes to smart rendering, however, it only works well about 90% of the time. The rest of the time, the picture goes horribly pixellated for a second or two, as if the bitrate is set ridiculously low. Here's an example:

http://tinypic.com/r/ipv6o2/8

or

http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=79194873299190514341

As the runner crosses the line, the quality drops drastically due to a smart render. Other smart renders in the same project are perfect. This is not unique to this video or project, though - it's a problem that crops up regularly for me. I haven't been able to spot any sort of pattern to this glitch appearing, and it seems to happen randomly. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a solution?

For such otherwise fine software, it's an absolutely crippling bug. It means that I simply cannot trust the program to output transitions, chapter points and other smart renders correctly. Please help!

Question - TVMW5 BBS - xvid settings help No.68657
Larry  2014-08-25 15:43:21 ( ID:853mykitmhf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a problem I need some help with...When I set the xvid format and select single pass everything works correctly. But when select 2 pass encoding it does a single pass only. When I select 2 pass Fist past or 2 pass second pass I get an error that reads "stats not found". I would like to make a two pass encoding using
the xvid codec but it seems impossible to do! I have the latest xvid codec installed.

It use to work doing a two pass encoding and if i remember correctly when it started encoding, the preview remained black until the second pass encoding started. It also stated running "first pass" somewhere on the screen....

It is very puzzling as I think I have tried ever setting I could think of. The two pass encoding works fine using the divx settings also....

tkrave  2014-09-03 09:36:53 ( ID:.yfti6punfa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

For Xvid, you do each pass separately, so you are probably remembering a 2-pass output for another format, or an older xvid codec version.

Select "Twopass - 1st pass" first, then click on the "more..." button and make sure you select a directory for your video.pass file.
Then, output the file.

After that, go back to the Format stage and select "Twopass - 2nd pass" and then output the file again. It should already know where your video.pass file is if you properly set its location in the 1st pass.

Request - TAW5 BBS - Batch Tool - Full Project Path Please? No.68653
phylbert  2014-08-23 18:14:57 ( ID:ic9xaa6tab. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I love TAW5 and make heavy use of the Batch Authoring Tool.
Currently the top line of text in all of my batch entries reads the same thing ("Output to J:\Temp\"), except the active entry which reads "Output to J:\Temp\MyMovie".
That makes it hard to move entries around in the queue as I can't tell which is which. Can we please have the full project path for ALL batch entries, and not just the active one? Thanks!

schabelf  2014-09-26 01:01:06 ( ID:o4/wh0pcznj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I can on the forum today to wright a letter just like yours. I love the program in general but having 6 or7 tasks in batch processing and not being able to tell what the are except for the one that is currently being processed is very annoying. All you can do is open the batch entry for editing in the main program to find out what it is.

phylbert  2018-02-01 00:12:28 ( ID:alfj5bgjega )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

As of TAW6, this still hasn't been addressed. But you can at least right-click the batch entry and select "Save as Project File". The file name is pre-filled with the actual underlying project, and once you know what that is, you can just cancel the save. Still fiddly, but quicker than the editing option.

Greetings,

I'm a registered user of TAW 3 and am looking to upgrade to TAW 4.
I just emailed the sales department today and they said they no longer sell this product and should go with TAW 5. Problem is, I already tried TAW 5 and it doesn't work well on my system. Any way I can buy TAW 4 license ?

TIA

What source format requires the least encoding/transcoding to author a Blu-ray?
thanks you

tkrave  2014-08-19 05:55:47 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MEPG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, provided it is in the proper resolution and framerate. See this page for some basic video and audio specs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Video

Question - TAW5 BBS - Output issues No.68634
eainmcd  2014-08-15 04:02:55 ( ID:i8wskypdmfm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have just decided to try using Authoring Works 5 and had not problems building the project but I cannot get it out of the software and onto a disc.

every time I try to output the project to either a file location or a Blu-ray burner the program comes back with an error code. " at Address "hexcode", Write error occurred against address "same hex code" when I clear it and try to do it again the program locks up and I have to CTD to get out of it.

this happens no matter what physical or logical drive I attempt to use. Internal or external.

any ideas?

Bug report - TAW5 BBS - two identical consecutive subtitles automatically combined into one No.68628
Sergey  2014-08-11 16:40:53 ( ID:mqmqdji99pg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I create two identical consecutive subtites TAW5 automatically combined it into one.

Of course, between these two subtitles there is a gap

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Output Preview No.68626
jdawg1983  2014-08-10 21:34:30 ( ID:6tzypekriac )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

Might be a silly question but....

When I encode a file is there a way of doing a preview so I can see a brief clip of the output of my encoding. I basically want to see if the quality is either shocking or acceptable of my re-encoded files.
I've tried the Preview button but it only shows what your clips will look like with any filters, etc not what they look like after encoding. I noticed when encoding the preview shows the source picture is there a way of showing the destination/output image ?

tkrave  2014-08-14 08:01:03 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To see how it would look after encoding, you'd have to encode it. So no, there's no encoding preview.

However, you could just create a small clip from your footage (like 20 seconds or so) and then encode it with your output settings to see what the quality is like.
