Question - TAW5 BBS - Prevent reencoding when creating BRMV No.66506
LiveRock  Home )  2012-08-10 11:45:45 ( ID:r//utnrtoxa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi

I am trying to create source files (.h264, mp4, etc) that Authoring Works 5 can use in a project to create a BDMV (Blu-way) disc.

However, I tried, Works 5 always try to reencode my source videos.
My source videos are

1920x1080
25 fps
H.264

The reencoding takes a lot of time; between 1-2 hours. If I add the Blu-ray writing, it is even more!

Is there a way to create source video files that avoid reencoing?

Thanks in advanced for any insights..

There may be other settings you need to change in order to conform to Blu-ray standards. Post the full details of your source file if you can; you can use a program called MediaInfo to get a detailed report.

I'm running into the same problem here ...

I generated BluRay compliant TS streams with x264 and want to author those using TAW5, but no matter what settings I try, it always reencodes the whole programm.

So far, I tested the following options:
- "prevent this track from the target size adjustment"
- "output setting" -> automatic (smart rendering prioritized)

Am I missing some ther options here ?

However, using tsMuxeR for outputting those file as BD works just fine and every player I tried accepts those disks, but obviously, tsMuxeR has no option for authoring at all.

I would surely appreciate any kind of feedback on this matter ...

On a side note, I noticed the transcoding process causes the videolevels to be ajusted from full to legal levels and that's a major show stopper, since I'm usually working with video legal levels in my clips already.

Maggi

tkrave  2012-09-05 05:53:30 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Probably a bug related to PAL/25fps Blu-ray files.

I would contact support and give them the video info.

Maggi  2012-09-05 19:02:20 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanx, tkrave !

I just filed a bugreport.

I thought this BBS would be monitored and assisted by tech support, but now it seems, this is just user based.

Anyways, if I get this issue resolved, I'll drop a note.

Cheers,
Maggi

Maggi  2012-09-10 16:39:09 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just a little update:

I'm in talks with tech support, but didn't get too much technical details about mandatory requirements for a given h264 stream to avoid re-encoding.

BUT, I did some more research a found a working x264 encoder setting for 1080p25 footage, that does not get re-encoded by TAW at all:

x264.exe --no-progress --preset slow --tune film --nal-hrd vbr --weightp 2 --b-pyramid strict --bluray-compat --level 41 --keyint 25 --min-keyint 25 --aud --non-deterministic --slices 4 --bframes 2 --ref 1 --psy-rd 1:0 --fake-interlaced --bitrate 16000 --qcomp 0.6 --sar 1:1 --threads 0 --colorprim "bt709" --transfer "bt709" --colormatrix "bt709" --bframes 2 --vbv-maxrate 40000 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --b-pyramid strict --demuxer raw --input-res 1920x1080 --fps 25 --input-csp i420 -o output.264 input.file

Feel free to take these settings as a starting point for adopting it to your footage's specs ... :)

Best regards,
Maggi

tkrave  2012-09-11 07:15:22 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Nice! Thanks for those specs. It was probably some minute setting that was throwing things off, though it could just be a bug too. The official Blu-ray whitepaper doesn't go into enough detail to help.
http://www.blu-raydisc.com/assets/Downloadablefile/BD-ROM-AV-WhitePaper_110712.pdf

I think Pegasys does monitor this forum but they won't respond, so I recommend that people contact support if they want a response or if they want to make sure a request/bug is seen.

Maggi  2012-09-17 19:54:18 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanx for the link, tkrave !

In the PDF you linked, is a note about the needed format on page 33:

6.2.1 Video stream
Video streams for Blu-ray 3D shall be MPEG-4 MVC video format (Annex H of ITU-T H.264 | ISO/IEC 14496-10) compliant.

I dug a little deeper and found the following ITU paper that they are referring to:

http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H.264.1/en

"Annex H" starts on page 604 ... ^^

But to make it short, that book is total overkill to read, so I'll keep it pragmatical and take the trail and error approach.

Right now, I'm trying to encode a 23.976p stream that's supposed to not get reencoded and I'll post the setting, once I'll find them to be compatible with TAW.

Cheers,
Maggi

where do you enter these settings. I am having the same problem with .264 files.

Maggi  2012-09-20 20:26:53 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

that depends on what software you are using ... my example is for the cmd-line version of x264.exe, but I'd think that every GUI frontend for x264 has an option for entering those parameters as well

so, what are you using ?

Cheers,
Maggi

tkrave  2012-09-21 02:57:38 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you're using TVMW5, you need to select "MPEG file output" to access the advanced h.264 settings. It's a bit difficult to figure out which settings match those parameters though.

Rick0725  2012-09-26 11:33:55 ( ID:abhw2jbwy1g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I tried all possible settings MP4, M2TS, and TS in the HDPVR and NONE of the files smart rendered in Authoring Works 5. A TS file created a few years ago from the HDPVR did smart render though.

the difference in the video properties were

The 720p/59.94 TS file from a few years ago that smart rendors shows ...nonmbaff.

I noticed thata TS file buff=4, ref=4,nonmbaff smart rendors but buff=2, ref=2, nonmbaff does not smart rendor

The TS 1080i/60 file that does not smart rendors shows both...mbaff, nonmbaff

Request - TAW5 BBS - Menu Track Titles from source file name No.66505
TDXAV  2012-08-10 11:15:11 ( ID:myteoh7jz/f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not sure if this function is available, but I can find no reference of it.

It would save me a significant amount of time if when creating a DVD Menu, I could import the source video's file name (without the extension), or possibly info from the file's metadata, to track and chapter titles. Currently, I have to type these by hand, which is incredibly time consuming when I have 30+ source videos.

It would even be an advantage to be able to just see the source video title when a certain chapter or track is selected during menu editing. That would save me having to exit the DVD Menu section and click over to the Source section just to see which source video is under each track.

Thank-You.

tkrave  2012-08-11 05:11:42 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Go to the Preferences-->Project default settings, and for Track title, select "Auto fill first clip name." That way, it should use the name of the first clip you add to a track.
You can also choose to use the clip name for chapters.

TDXAV  2012-09-20 10:14:09 ( ID:myteoh7jz/f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for your reply! This works wonderfully, thank you.

It currently displays spaces as underscores within the menu. I can live with this, but it there a way to fix this?

tkrave  2012-09-26 02:54:02 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think there's a way to change how it handles spaces. At least, I can't find a way.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - ffdshow and tmpgenc 5 No.66492
Alkermes  2012-08-08 04:09:31 ( ID:l8l.we3au/c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have installed ffdshow for decode VC-1 and DTS files in Tmgpenc 5, but only can decode DTS audio files and not VC-1 video files.

How can I configure Tmgpenc 5 for to use ffdshow?.

Regards, Alkermes.

tkrave  2012-08-09 06:00:03 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You may need to disable other file readers to force TVMW5 to use the directshow file reader.

First, check which file reader is being used to open the file by going to the Clip Properites window. The file reader should be listed in the Video stream info box.

Go to Preferences-->Input/output format list-->File input plugin, and then uncheck whatever file reader is being used to open the file. Directshow is at the bottom, so other file readers have priority over it unless they are disabled.

Alkermes  2012-08-10 02:08:10 ( ID:l8l.we3au/c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have disabled all file input plugin except DirectShow but this does not work.

Thank you ;-)

I had installed CoreAVC 2.0 with Haali media spliter. With Haali and ffdshow togethers I can decode DTS audio.

I try then with Win7DSFilterTweaker 5.5 for choose/select what codecs I want to use for decode severals video formats and I enable VC-1 decode whith ffdshow.

This not work and Tmpgenc 5 not decode VC-1...

But... I install a new coreAVC software versión (3) and reinstall y reconfigure ffdshow and now VC-1 works.

Resume:

-Install coreAVC 3 (CUDA enable).
-Install ffdshow 4475. Only enable VC-1 (wmv9) and DTS (libdts) decoders for me.
-Use Win7DSFilterTweaker 5.5 for to enable ffdshow for decode VC-1.

By the way, when you select a video file (VC-1/DTS) not use DVD/BR Importer from Tmpgenc 5, you must use "Import as is"...

Under Windows 7 64bit i only use Haali Media Splitter and FFDSHOW, no extra tools or codec packs installed at all and i have full VC-1 support in both TVMW5 and TAW5.

In FFDSHOWS's Video decoder configuration, Codecs, what i have done is to change VC-1 setting to wmv9 and Raw video to All supported.

Alkermes  2012-08-24 07:26:40 ( ID:l8l.we3au/c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Forget CoreAVC (not VC-1 decoder)...

"You have not set FFDSHOW's VC-1 support correctly.
In FFDSHOW open the Video decoder configuration and then go to Codecs.
Here find VC-1 and change it to: wmv9
Now FFDSHOW has been opened up for decoding VC-1 coded video correctly."

I am not agree. I try several setting (wmv9 included) and not work, why?, I dont know.

I had not enabled Raw video before. Thanks for your help, I have enabled now.

Regards, Alkermes.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Format: MPEG-4 Visual No.66462
reyes136  2012-08-02 07:03:49 ( ID:wsra7c/m3ka )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a few portable media players that are very specific to the video format they will play.I used the mediainfo software to check the videos and the only ones that will play are the ones who show the following:

Video
ID : 1
Format : MPEG-4 Visual
Format profile : Advanced Simple@L3

the only way i can get a video with this format is if i use your quicktime .mov profile then change the .mov extension to .mp4 then the video will play and shows the same format as above. But this profile has no options for res. or bitrate.
If I use your .mp4 profiles the video is as follows:

Video
ID : 2
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : Baseline@L2.0

and this will not play in my players. Is there a profile that will get me the mp4 visual style video.

tkrave  2012-08-02 07:58:12 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Besides the format and profile, what are the other limitations? Resolution, framerate, etc.??

Try using the "Mobile and Portable Device MPEG file" template.
Maybe use the iPad settings as a starting point.

reyes136  2012-08-02 08:10:38 ( ID:wsra7c/m3ka )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well as long as I stay under 800X600 and 29fps the videos seem to be ok as long as there MPEG-4 Visual. I have tried all the iphone formats changing all the settings possible. If I use Handbrake and select the classic format the videos come out perfect. But I bought this software to cut out commercials and Handbrake does not do this. I did notice that the "MPEG-4 Visual" and Handbrake files that work are H.263.

tkrave  2012-08-02 09:12:08 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you have the Xvid codec, you can use the AVI output format and the Xvid MPEG-4 codec to create a H.263 ASP@L3 video. The output file will have an .avi extension though.
The Xvid settings will let you set the number of passes, bitrates, and more.

Thanks tkrave, this is exactly what I needed, my sony portable dvd player will play .avi files encoded with .mp4 files. I made a couple test videos and they played perfectly. Thanks again for you help, You are awesome.

benoitm  2012-08-01 00:45:21 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is it possible to concatenate in a single MP4 file several "segments" that have been encoded with different H.264 parameters ? I know how to do this with MPEG-2, but don't know which tool to use for H.264/MP4 files ?

(example: you may want part of a movie encoded in CBR, and another in VBR; or a different encoding "strategy" for parts of a movie like: smaller GOP, better control of banding in the shades of extremely dark scenes, etc.)

tkrave  2012-08-01 02:34:28 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's not possible with TVMW5, but it's possible with professional encoding software/hardware.

Add all of your videos as clips in the Source stage, in the order you want them from top to bottom. In the Format stage, make sure to select to output all videos as one file (there should be a drop down menu for this option towards the top of the window.

Question - TVMW5 BBS - How to crop from 16:9 to 4:3 No.66445
luuuc  2012-07-28 11:17:20 ( ID:iskacmj23hf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I have a DVD that was created from an old 4:3 source (video tape). When I import into VMW5 I can see that the black bars at the sides are actually a part of the video, so the software correctly identifies it as 16:9 (interlaced) video.

I would like to encode this as a 4:3 (progressive) video file, and minimize any loss of quality since being from video it is already not great.

What is the best way to remove the black bars? Do I use the "Crop" filter function?
Any tips for keeping the final video as true to the original as possible?

tkrave  2012-07-31 07:49:22 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, you'll need to use the crop function to crop out the black bars.

For maintaining quality, I like outputting as MPEG-4 AVC and using the VBR constant quality settings. You can set quality to 100 (the max). Since your source was DVD and you've cropped it, you can probably get away with a pretty low bitrate and still maintain the source's details.
