Question - TE40 - directcompute or ati stream for no nvidia user No.59320
Phoenix  2010-02-20 19:41:35 ( ID:zz2naspzovj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

this is a next version of Tmpgenc Xpress will take advantage of GPGPU computing via directcompute of directx11 ?

nvidia disappoints me more and more by its poltique rating of physx cuda or often "reserved" for software that requires nvidia quadro

Briefly, directx11 and directcompute a new horizon for tmpgenc xpress ?

Question - TAW4 - Can't import avi file with h.264 codec No.62591
AoiDxc  2010-02-19 17:43:40 ( ID:nltbapxhiwj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a video in avi format but when it's imported to TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 shows the error "cannot open the file c://******"

Using gspot shows the following codecs.

Video
codec: H.264 name: H.264/MPGE-4 AVC "codecs are installed"

Audio
codec: 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3 "codecs are installed"

Somebody could tell me why the video cannot be imported?
I'm using windows 7.

tkrave  2010-02-20 02:11:18 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can you play the video in Windows Media Player? And does it use ffdshow?

AoiDxc  2010-02-20 15:04:04 ( ID:nltbapxhiwj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, i can play it in windows media player but i don't know how to identify if it is using ffdshow

I have installed a codec pack called win7codecs from Shark, and there is a "set h264 to use ffdshow" option. Maybe should i try with that?

tkrave  2010-02-23 19:09:51 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I only ask about ffdshow because I've run into problems with H.264 avi files where the video wouldn't load in Authoring Works 4. Turns out they were using ffdshow codecs.

You can tell if the video is using ffdshow because a ffdshow icon will appear in the notification area of your taskbar when you play the file in Windows Media Player. I've found that changing some settings in ffdshow have solved my problems.

Open the ffdshow video decoder configuration (Start menu-->All Programs-->ffdshow-->video decoder configuration). You should see a list of video formats. Under the column for "Decoder" right-click anywhere and select one or both of the options ("Set all stable formats to libavcodec" or "Set all supported formats to Xvid"). Click OK to close the window and see if the file can be opened in Authoring Works.

Question - TE40 - 23.976 fps to PAL No.59309
Chippy99  2010-02-19 15:01:14 ( ID:7lreymhj0i2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How do I get TMPGENC to stop inserting extra frames??????

Every time I try to produce a PAL output from a 23.976 source, TMPENG inserts 1 extra duplicate frame after every 24 frames, to keep the speed correct.

But this causes terrible judder.

I just want to produce 25fps video and I accept it will run 4% too fast. How can I do this?

Mathew Lisett  Home )  2010-02-20 00:26:17 ( ID:/mc2urzlila )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

you do realize to gain the extra fps and in fact you do realize what FPS is its FRAMES PER SECOND, therfore if you want to go up in frames ie 23.976 to 25 you will have to insert extra frames which is what the software does.

if you dont wnat the extra frames, stick with what you have .

spankenstein  2010-02-20 01:29:12 ( ID:b.xnh40qwlg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is the avisynth .avs file I used to convert a YouTube download of the live U2 concert that was broadcast a few months ago. The 'AssumeFPS' command is what you'll need to alter the frame rate without gaining or losing any frames - the 'true' part keeps the audio in sync. TMPGEnc XPress & Authoring Works will accept .avs files with no problem.
---------------------------------
LoadPlugin ("C:\Program Files\DGAVCIndex\DGAVCDecode.dll")
LoadPlugin ("C:\Program Files\AutoGK\filters\RemoveGrainSSE2.dll")

Video = AVCSource ("U2ube.dga")
Audio = DirectShowSource ("U2ubeREDO.wav")
Audio = Normalize (audio, 0.95)
Audiodub (Video,Audio)
AssumeFPS (30000, 1001, true) # converts A/V from 30.00fps to 29.97 fps

Crop (0,0,0,-2) # cropping off bottom distortion
BicubicResize (684,456) # actual encoded video at same aspect ratio
RemoveGrain (mode=2)
AddBorders (18,12,18,12) # added to create a 720x480 output for DVD
Trim (0,253465) # MAIN movie
FadeIn (96)
FadeOut (96)

ConvertToYUY2()
---------------------------------
Read up a little on avisynth and you'll love it. There's also a filter somewhere to alter the pitch if you don't like what the 4% speed change does to the sound. For my use above, I only changed from 30.00 to 29.97 FPS, and I was able to encode a beautiful DVD compliant file.

Mathew Lisett  Home )  2010-02-21 19:32:20 ( ID:/mc2urzlila )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

no still you will never be able to go from 23.976 to pal without it inserting frames, its impossible.

Chippy99  2010-02-22 11:32:42 ( ID:7lreymhj0i2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To those saying you need to insert frames, sorry you are mistaken.

23.976 is a frame rate. Emphasis rate.

To make it 25 fps there are different ways to do it, but one way is to simply speed it up. You don't NEED to insert any extra frames.

The only time you need to insert extra frames is if you want to keep the running time the same and the pitch of the soundtrack the same.

But if you aren't bothered about this, just speed it up. The advantage of doing this is NO JUDDER.

Chippy99  2010-02-22 11:37:55 ( ID:7lreymhj0i2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sorry, I just realised it was only Matt saying you must insert extra frames.

Matt - you are mistaken. Think of each frame as a playing card and the film as being each card placed on a pile at a rate of 23.976 cards per second. (40.708 milliseconds per card).

All you do is start dealing the cards faster! So deal them at a rate of 25 cards per second (40.0 ms per card)

What the software is actually doing is dealer the cards faster AND inserting a duplicate card after every 24 cards. I don't want it to do this!

Mathew Lisett  Home )  2010-02-23 00:15:33 ( ID:/mc2urzlila )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

incorrect chippy, im stating that the software will insert the frames to make up to the 25fps etc, it will not just simply speed up the footage.

yes there are way to speed up the footage, but you are asking about tmpgenc products which insert not speed up.

Chippy99  2010-03-01 18:18:13 ( ID:7lreymhj0i2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No Mathew. You stated that it was impossible to go from 28.976 to 25 fps PAL without insterting frames. That is what you said, and it is wrong, as I have pointed out.

If you are now changing your argument to say that TMPGEnc cannot do this conversion without inserting frames, than I can accept that.

But that is not what you said.

mathew lisett  Home )  2010-03-18 09:40:50 ( ID:1uuvxkl/gf. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

im not changign what i said, but i shall help what i said to be understood how it was meant.

it doesnt matter if you speed it up or slow it down, when you get to software such as tmpgenc, it WILL insert or take away frames as per fps you choose

Chippy99  2010-03-26 15:22:58 ( ID:7lreymhj0i2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You said "you do realize to gain the extra fps and in fact you do realize what FPS is its FRAMES PER SECOND, therfore if you want to go up in frames ie 23.976 to 25 you will have to insert extra frames which is what the software does."

The software does this, agreed.

But you do not have to insert extra frames to get 25 fps. Your statement above is incorrect.

emreplt  2010-04-17 18:42:46 ( ID:xrekjrcn7xw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can speed up your video with FPS conversion in VirtualDubMod then save as an umcompressed format or any other formats. Then encode with TmpgEnc...

After exporting (with added subtitle) it'still (GSpot said)1ch

ensure that you have got up to date codecs, and check your settings.

Request - TAW4 - Subtitle Font size No.62585
James  2010-02-18 23:28:28 ( ID:ml//b7ovqy. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me what size should be the subtitles because when i import them and leave them like that ,there are very big.
Cheers

quzma  2010-02-19 10:52:09 ( ID:glsoe6z1nnk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

in subtitle editor page, on the top of popup window (where you found import
subs) you can see subtitle layout where you can change your subs apereance:
size, font, color, position, outline, align...
Press some sub, so that you can see it on preview screen, then enter layout
and you can see what you are doing in real time.
(tmpgenc dvd author makes me best looking subs, but with few srt a had problems
with importing, some of that srt CAN be solved by saving them in Subtitle Workshop)

James  2010-02-19 11:32:44 ( ID:ml//b7ovqy. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks but i am asking about the size.
ON mine says 10 but there are too big.

quzma  2010-02-19 14:11:18 ( ID:3o7tkk8fp22 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

so make it 6-8

Question - TAW4 - Can you ouput AVHD to Other Disc Formats Bedides BD? No.62582
KevMull  2010-02-18 20:52:03 ( ID:ypzjgj6j4vj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've been using AVCHD with other software and they allow you to output AVCHD to standard DVD-R as well as Blu ray.
Can Authoring Works 4 do this or at least let you output o a hard disk or usb pen drive. The spec only mentions Blu Ray which seems a bit strange as I would think most people with HD camcorders like wouldn't author to BD which is still quite expensive for blank media.

Many Thanks

tkrave  2010-02-20 01:55:56 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The specs don't mention any such limitation.
http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/taw4_spec.html

You can import AVCHD and output to DVD-Video, Blu-ray (MPEG-2), and DivX Ultra. You do not need to burn to disc if don't want to; you can just keep the outputted files on your hard drive or create a disc image from them.

KevMull  2010-02-28 18:17:09 ( ID:ypzjgj6j4vj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Many Thanks

That sounds fine to me.

Question - TDA3 - Simple Menu with Background and Play button No.60913
smithb  2010-02-17 02:35:49 ( ID:qubw686hpcg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to create the simplest of menus for a one video output.

All I want is a background image and a play button. Is this possible?

tkrave  2010-04-19 19:19:50 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes this is possible. Create a custom menu and select a layout with one thumbnail. If you don't want a thumbnail, choose a text-only layout for your track menu. For the menu structure choose "Track Menu only". In the menu editor, you can change you background to whatever image you want by double-clicking on it. This will open a new window where you can choose a new image.

You'll have a link called "Chapter 1" or something like that. If you want to hide it, click on the "Global DVD Menu Settings" button and go to the "Chapter display" tab. Unchecking the box next to Chapter 1 will hide it. You can do the same for the Menu Title as well.

Obviously I'm a newby. Downloaded the freeware to investigate trying to clean up some old home movie vcr tapes. Capturing tape (avi) thru dazzle Pinnacle and then encoding (NTSC, interlace). I tried six experiments with the noise reduction:

1. Still picture 0, Range 1, Time Axis 0, High Quality=No
2. Still picture 20, Range 1, Time Axis 20, High Quality=No (default)
2. Still picture 40, Range 1, Time Axis 40, High Quality=No
2. Still picture 0, Range 1, Time Axis 0, High Quality=Yes
2. Still picture 20, Range 1, Time Axis 20, High Quality=Yes
2. Still picture 40, Range 1, Time Axis 40, High Quality=Yes

I can't see any noticeable difference when playing back the TMPG mpeg file. Is there any difference? I can't find any documentation on the website.

Thanks

Question - TAW4 - Importing MKV file No.62575
dphan  2010-02-16 00:04:52 ( ID:ljki6xqoqlf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Win7 x64 and Using TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.0.7.32, I am trying to import an MKV file and I get a message:
Could not open the video part of the file abc.mkv Only the audio part can be opened.

I know I was able to import MKV file in the past with Win Vista x64 and I also read the thread #728 that says just to set ffdshow to be used with MKV then it will solve the problem but I could not find anything in ffdshow to let me set it. Unfortunately, the person who has the solution did not leave any additional info on how he did it.

Please advise.

dphan  2010-02-16 22:25:04 ( ID:ljki6xqoqlf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

*** OK, I found the solution and to help those who have the same problem, here is the steps I took. Everything works with TAW4, Windows Media Player will play most popular formats: avi, mkv, flv, mov, asf etc....

1 - Go to http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm & download the latest full version of K-lite codec Pack, current vertsion is 5.70f
2 - Uninstall any previous codec pack.
3 - Install the K-lite codec pack
a - On the first screen, uncheck "Players" if you prefer to use regular Windows Media Player.
b - scroll down and select DirectVobsub 2.33 (I use Subtitle workshop, version 2.39 will crash the program)
c - Leave the rest as is and click Next

4 - Uncheck "Reset all settings to their defaults".
- If you don't want to see ffdshow icon in the taskbar then check "Hide systray icon"
- If you don't want to see Haali icon in the taskbar, then check "Hide systray icon"
- click next
5 - skip DXVA hardware acceleration if you are not using Media Player Classic.
6 - Check on "Windows Media Player" then Next
7 - Check on Video File Extension to allow all file extensions using WMP. Click Next
8 - Select your own speaker configuration then click Next->Install
9 - Check "configure DirectVobSub" if you want to change Font style, size, color for subtitle
10 - Check on "Run Win7DSFilter Tweater tool", you need to change one option in this in order to import MKV file
with TAW. Click Finish
11 - Change Font, size , color to the way you wanted.
12 - On Preferred DirectShow decoding filters in Windows 7 screen, select 32-bit decoders->H.264->DivX H264 then click Apply
then Exit

Question - TE25 - converting mp4 video to mpeg2/mpeg1 video to play on dvd No.43760
migaluchi  2010-02-15 18:29:20 ( ID:trcnrlmujja )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi folks...obviously i dont have a clue here...so pls be patient.

for an example...i want to go to archive.org and download the 'Captain America' cliffhanger serial.

1. this should fit on (1) DVD the total of all the files is just under 1.2GB...

and i have a bunch of CD-Rs. i would like to burn some VCDs and DVDs with a little menu system (just PLAY ALL and CHAPTERS).

2. i picked up a sony dvd player and it does play VCDs.

3. i am looking at CH 1: this file (and most of the others like it) give this information:

MPEG4 (260MB) , Ogg video (121MB), and [512Kb MPEG4 (99MB)-- this is the one i chose]...size of files vary. i discovered by accident that this is the format each of these files is in: FORMAT : ISO Media, MPEG v4 system, version 1

4. these will play on my pc and this is a big, new system....windows 7, 1 terabyte disk, 2.6GZ and a DVD burner.

5. this cliffhanger has 15 chapters. it may probably fit on (1) or (2) DVDs or (2) or (3) CDs.
6. i just want to know:
a. will the PAYWARE version of TMPGENC convert into MPEG2 and MPEG1 formats?
b. another forum suggested: TMPGENC paid version to do the encoding...Ulead DVD Workshop 2 (PAYWARE) to do the menus...and burning is with (FREEWARE) ImgBurn

does this sound like a workable solution with WINDOWS 7?

can anyone PLEASE help a lost soul like me? i happen to love these old serials....but i cant afford to buy many. my pension doesnt go far these days.

thanks for your kindness and patience.....

Steve Thompson  2010-04-12 07:47:12 ( ID:bg81bjlsg/w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

migaluchi,

I have TMPGEnc 2.5 and it does all that you have mentioned. The price is too incredible for what it does, regarding quality compression, not to invest in.

Your system should be fine for all of this.

For a DVD, you will want to convert it into an MPEG2 format which will have a file extention of .m2v

If you have ULEAD WORKSHOP 2, which it sounds like you do, then I would use this program to set up your menus and chapters "AND" I would use Ulead Workshop 2 to burn your DVD as well.

That's what I do.

Good Luck,
Steve
