Question - TE25 - MOV to MPG No.43271
Eric  2005-06-15 03:42:30 ( ID:w1zkarp6xbm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to convert a 30 sec movie (.MOV) clip to an .MPG format. When done, I have the Video but not the Audio.

I am using: TMPGEnc 2.524.63.181 with QTReader.vfp

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer. :)

ashy  2005-06-15 22:39:27 ( ID:c9rwdyebxxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Forget about the QTreader.vfp it's dog slow.
Download and install the 'Quicktime alternative' codec instead.
If you still have trouble with the audio after that install the 'Core aac' codec.

Also the 3IVX codec is capable of decoding QT too.

Question - TE25 - Buying dvdauthor disc through amazon.com? No.43270
fnsooner  2005-06-15 02:18:22 ( ID:nwn2utq/vug )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My father downloaded the free trial about a month ago(my recomendation) and liked it. He wants to buy the box(disc) version. So I am attempting to get it for him.

I ordered the box version from Amazon.com on May 30th and it still has not shipped. My dads trial is about to expire.

Is there a better way to get the box version, or should I just wait till Amazon delivers it. I have attempted to contact Amazon, but have been unsuccessful. I think the software will eventually arrive. If I knew of anyone else that might be more reliable, I would cancel my order and get it there.

I would appreciate a reference to a better seller of your product. thanks

i ran into a mpg that would play in media player, but when dragged into tmpgenc no "video" source was found. i changed the extension to "mpv" but still it wouldn't "see" video. any ideas? js

ashy  2005-06-14 23:42:59 ( ID:c9rwdyebxxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try opening it with the browse button.
If not it may be MPEG2.

skimmer  2005-06-15 12:09:56 ( ID:dg4txon.4bw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

no dice. i "feel" it's corrupted. do you know of a freeware "repair' program? js

skimmer  2005-06-15 12:18:01 ( ID:dg4txon.4bw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

it would seem i've answered my own question. i found "MPEG Header Corrector". anyone have any experience with this? good/bad comments? js

ashy  2005-06-15 22:30:55 ( ID:c9rwdyebxxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First you need to establish whether the file is MPEG1 or 2.
If it's MPEG2 then your problem is likely you don't have a compatible MPEG2 codec.

MPEG corrector only works on MPEG1 and in my experience doesn't actually correct anything.

You could try running the MPEG through the simple multiplexer to correct the headers.

If that doesn't work then you will need something like MPEG2VCR to rebuild the the MPEG before putting it back into TMPG.

Question - TME1 - TMPGEnc insists on 768 x 576 output No.54395
Retro  2005-06-14 09:48:42 ( ID:gjyqh/yyh.l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert a 576 x 320 (16:9 -ish) avi to an MPG I can stick on an SVCD (PAL, so 480 x 576). No matter what I do, the output MPG is 768 x 576.

OK, so what am I doing? 1. Use the wizard, don't mess with any settings. 768 x 576. 2. Use the wizard, then go and change the input to 16:9, verify that output is set to 480 x 576 (greyed out)... 768 x 576. 3. Mess with various settings, interlace on both sides, no matter what, the output seems to stick at 768 x 576.

What am I doing wrong?

Where do you see this 768x576? In Media Player? Forget it... Media Player always says 768x576 on full resolution MPEG2.

cme  2005-06-10 17:37:07 ( ID:4bbk5n9bato )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

is there any way to convert DVD to VCD with tmpgenc? I know I am going to lose quality through this, but I have to do this since I need to play it at a place where there's no dvd player.

ashy  2005-06-12 13:33:44 ( ID:shk9jszeif6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If theres no DVD player how are you going to play the VCD?

Got DVDRhelp.com for step step guides how to do it.

alrite, thx for the reply. Actually, I already found the guides to go about it. However, I tried a few rippers like DVDtoSVCD and SmartRipper, but both rippers could not detect my DVD. It keeps saying "no dvd found". But, I can play it with PowerDVD no problem. I tried playing it for a minute or so, and then close the PowerDVD and reopen the rippers. But it's still the same.

Media player can play it as well. Any ideas what's wrong? My dvd was recorded by a DVD recorder of a TV show by the way. And its a re-writable DVD. Could this be the reason? Also, my friend mentioned something about not finalising the DVD. Could that be the reason as well?

ashy  2005-06-13 23:59:41 ( ID:shk9jszeif6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think you are selecting the right drive in the ripping program. Have you tried opening the VIDEO_TS folder manually in Smartripper?

Also make sure you have Adaptec ASPI 4.6 installed. Do NOT install 4.7.

John  2005-06-24 07:51:11 ( ID:z58arhv39gk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello cme

Your problem could very well be that your dvd was recorded by a DVD recorder and that it is a re-writable DVD. A re-writable DVD must be finalized or as my DVD recorder menu lists "make compatible". Even if you do this it may not be recognized by Smartripper. The good news is that you don't have to rip it using Smartripper. Since you can play it with PowerDVD and it is "home-made" you can simply view the DVD contents using Windows Explorer and copy the VIDEO_TS folder contents to your hard drive. Smartripper would be needed to remove protection on a commercial DVD.

I have had this problem with my DVD recorder. I bought it to convert my VHS home movies to DVD but was not satified with the lack of a professional menu. I now use it to record to DVD (which eliminates audio sync problems and file limitations when recording directly to my computer) then copy the files to my computer and use DVD2AVI, TMPGEncoder, and TMPGEnc DVD Author to make professional looking DVDs.

A good guide can be found at:
http://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=ClassicalGuide.html
Just skip the "Smart Ripper" section and begin at the "DVD2AVI" section.
You can skip the "Chapter-X-Tractor" section if you don't want chapters in your VCD.
The download links are not up to date. The following information should help you to find the required programs.

Altu Faltu  2005-06-02 06:50:23 ( ID:tshtjxquud2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Faced this problem while trying to burn first DVD with TDA 1.6

* Re-installing doesn't help.
* Px.dll downloaded from dll-files.com also doesn't work.

Please publish correct PX.dll that works with TDA 1.6

bigjack  2005-09-12 05:51:50 ( ID:tm9mj6uhcon )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had the same problem. Here is what I did:
Uninstalled DVD Author
Uninstalled Nero Burning Rom (I don't think that really mattered, but did it anyway)
cd c:\windows\system32
del px*.*

I had to delete anything that started with px from the system32 directory under the windows directory.
(actually I created a temp directory to hold em just in case I needed em)
Then re-installed DVD Author.

worked like a charm after that

Question - TME1 - Cannot get TMPGE to open DVD2AVI files No.54392
Glenn  2005-06-01 12:34:43 ( ID:y0nrdksbyfj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I hope someone can help me with this: I have followed what seems to be a very good guide to get DVD's to CD located here http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2vcd_with_smart_dvd2avi_tmpgenc_page_4.cfm

but when it comes time to use TMPGE to open the video and audio files I keep getting an error "file..... cannot open or not supported". I have attempted this with 2 DVD's now with no luck.

I know this isn't much info to go on but if you need any more please ask, or give me some hints as to what I should be doing/checking.

Thanks.

Question - TME1 - Small Problem Reading a File No.54390
Ben  2005-05-31 03:06:47 ( ID:vedkgb3zypa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi guys, I have a small problem with one of the files I am trying to backup.

I have sucessfully used the "Convert a DivX or XviD AVI to DVD" guide (available http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd_page_4.cfm) to burn one of my DivX files to a DVD, but there is one I have been having trouble with recently. The file is 25 fps PAL, with mpeg layer 3 sound. I fill out all the steps in the guide very carefully, but when I get to the bitrate page, it becomes impossible for me to reduce the bitrate below 2000, and the file is still said to be 128.70% of the disc capacity, which of course will not work. Here is a screenshot of the problem:

http://img98.echo.cx/img98/2176/tmpgenc8gx.png

As you can see, TMPGEnc reads the file as being 311 minutes long, and I honestly have no idea why, the file is 1 hour and 59 minutes and I see no reason why it should be showing up as that. I'm pretty sure the problem is somewhere within there, but any advice that could be given would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

-- Ben

First, that's the wrong forum here.
Second, your Video do include mp3-audio. This is a well known problem, often solved. Got to the correct forum and use the search button.

Depends on what the audio format is in the MPEG.

Yes , I also have this problem , only when i convert my rmvb movie to mpeg 1 . NO sound at all . Doesn't matter i used layer 1 or layer 2 of audio , it just NO SOUND . Anybody out there can help ? -.-

ashy  2005-06-14 23:41:21 ( ID:c9rwdyebxxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPG cannot decode Real media audio. You will need to decode the audio to wav first with something like Graphedit.

Question - TE25 - jpeg No.43249
masterchief  2005-05-28 19:06:04 ( ID:28pk9ez3cnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

is it possible to make a series of JPEG images from a movie i have. I would like to edit my movie frame by frame in photoshop

B_Racer  2005-05-30 09:09:29 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That's easy.
Look at File -> Output to file

There's all you need. But first you have to select the range of pics you want to save as JPG.

Question - TE25 - Converting VOB to MPEG ? No.43240
kondwanii  2005-05-27 22:34:18 ( ID:3ikzasndoff )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I was searching on the internet to see if there is a program to convert VOB files to MPEG files, and on the website this website was mention. So, I downloaded the program using TMPGEnc Version 2.524. When I do a browse when TMPGENC is open on my computer the file of the VOB doesn't show up as a supported file format. I'm thinking maybe VOB doesn't support in TMPGENC. I'm trying to see if possible I can convert my copy of VOB files into MPEG format so I can CD Burn it into a Video CD or VCD to play on my DVD player at the moment don't have a DVD burner plan to have one soon, but for now I would like to convert my VOB files into MPEG format so that way on my CD Burner it can burn it to a Video CD or VCD. Does anyone know if this is possible, and If TMPGENC doesn't do it is there any other programs out there that will do it.

Thanks for anyone that knows the answer to my question.

B_Racer  2005-05-30 09:14:21 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Maybe you need a MPEG2-Decoder like m2v.vfp (http://www.marumo.ne.jp/mpeg2/m2v_vfp-0.6.51.lzh)

SM Elly  2005-06-01 23:31:56 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When opening directory with the file, select *.* all files. VOB may not be an option but all a VOB is is an MPEG file "badged" to DVD format.

The other option is just to rename the file .mpg and then open it.

ashy  2005-06-03 23:54:52 ( ID:shk9jszeif6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

SM Elly please read B_Racer's post again and take note of what it says.

John  2005-06-04 06:55:44 ( ID:rp95zxtzfxk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have tried, TMPGEnc will not open a VOB file without adding a decoder.

I have downloaded a lot of programs and tried everything I could only to come to this conclusion.

There is an easy, free, one step answer to your question. What you need is Eazy VCD. It will enable you to rip a DVD and convert it into MPG files which are compliant with VCD, XVCD, SVCD & XSVCD authoring. You can rip any program chain on the DVD. You can output to either a Bin/Cue image or Mpeg files.

It can be downloaded from:
http://www.arach.net.au/~phatjeff/EAZYVCD_115a_SETUP.EXE

The web site is:
http://www.eazyvcd.tk/

I assume that you have Nero or Easy CD creator or some type of program to author the VCD. If not you can do it for free with VCDEasy. It is an advanced VCDImager GUI authoring tool that allows you to play/watch your videos, pictures, and your audio files directly on most of the home DVD players, without having to buy a DVD Writer and DVD discs. It allows easy chaptering of VCDs and SVCDs including burning via CDRDAO.

It can be downloaded from:
http://www.videohelp.com/download/VCDEasy_v1.1.5.2_Setup.exe

The web site is:
http://www.vcdeasy.org/

I hope that is of help to you. VCDs are a lot easier to author than DVDs. I guess that's why they named both of those programs accordingly.

>Second terms are deadly games, they need to fear no one

ashy  2005-06-05 11:14:32 ( ID:shk9jszeif6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It may be easier, but I bet the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Nothing beats TMPG's MPEG1 encoding quality.

I don't undetstand the problem. B_racer has given the solution. Install the MPEG2 decoder and Bob's your uncle. I've done it for years and so have many others with TMPG or get TMPG plus which has it's own MPEG2 decoder.

In anycase you should never attempt to encode VOBs directly anyway. The best method is through DVD2AVI as a frame server.

John  2005-06-08 06:35:51 ( ID:z58arhv39gk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I agree that "Nothing beats TMPG's MPEG1 encoding quality."

B_racer has given a great solution. I just think that the Eazy VCD program is easier. It automates the functions that you would normally do manually. The quality is the same because:

"Eazy VCD uses programs that anyone familiar with making VCD's and SVCD will be familiar with. vStrip, DVD2AVI, BeSweet, TMPGEnc and VCDImager are the programs that Eazy VCD automates the tasks between, so you can relax while Eazy VCD does all the work for you.

Eazy Vcd uses the best software to make sure you end up with the highest quality VCD.

All you have to do is;
1. Put the DVD you wish to copy in your DVD-ROM drive.
2. Select the output folder, name, and what type of CD-R you are using, then click "RIP IT".
3. Burn the Bin/Cue image or Mpeg file to CD-R."

Quoted from: http://www.eazyvcd.tk/

ashy  2005-06-09 00:50:06 ( ID:shk9jszeif6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Fair enough. Ok for novices, but I prefer to have control over everything myself to get the best I can out of it.

kondwanii  2005-07-06 13:29:42 ( ID:edjtwlsabff )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks everyone for the suggestions I'll check into all the programs listed.
