Question - TE30 - Incredibly poor video quality No.53378
Tony  2004-12-17 21:27:38 ( ID:lhi5zntp/nh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded the trial version of TMPGEnc Express 3.0, and frankly I was APPALLED by the quality of the picture after spending 2 hours transcoding a video clip recorded by Media Center 2005! I have transcoded a lot of movies from MPEG2 to DivX/XviD in the past and have NEVER seen quality this bad, even if squeezing the file size down to 3-400MB for a movie. If this is the quality that the purchased product puts out, then I am VERY happy that I did not buy this product!

I am also experimenting with TMPGEnc Express with dvr-ms files. I absolutely love their cut/edit system for getting rid of commercials, but I find the DiVX support creates an aweful looking file.

Does anyone know of the proper settings to use for the DiVX support? I've played around with tons of different settings (using the 5.2.1 DiVX Pro codec) and nothing seems to really help. TMPGEnc will only do one pass, and it looks really bad. I've tried all the different presets within the codec.

Anyone?

Need help please!
I convert a VCD to mpeg format(vcd .dat)using vcdGear and then TMPGEnc to make clips(edit)so that I can watch the same on a Palm PDA.For this I use VirtualDub to convert to xvid. But there is no audio nor on the PC orpalm!
Think this has something to do with the audio format. After converting the audio format is"44hz stereo,224kbps,layer II".But no sound on PC. thanks

I have down loaded the program onto a new Gateway Computer.
I thnik I have the necessary support programs in place but can't get
this program to run.

My thoughts on using it are simple, I already have a movie recorded
to DVD. I simply want the re-record it but this time take advantage of
this programs ability to change a widescreen version to full screen, those black bars on the top and bottom of the screen drive me crazy.

Can anyone help? This seems like a great program if I could just get it to work I'd probably buy it!

Question - TDA1 - 16:9 Movies doesn`t fit on the disk No.49295
quizfrage  2004-12-14 12:37:43 ( ID:q3makgpcfxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if I burn a 16:9 movie with more than about 4 Gb but less than the disksize of 4,3 Gb. The disk is corrupted during the last 10 minutes or so. The 4:3 movies will work right. The vob* files in the temporary folder can also be played without error. Has anybody mode the same experience. Does anybody have a work-around. Is the reason perhaps the 4.3 menues???

Its probably the laser in your burner on the way out. Either that or cheepo blank DVD's.

Question - TE30 - Understanding Product Choices. No.53377
John  2004-12-13 05:59:20 ( ID:kqeswzcpkao )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Help. I'm having trouble understanding the different products. What is the difference between: TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress AND TMPGEnc MPEG Editor?

If "TMPGEnc MPEG Editor" is an upgraded and improved version of a program contained in "TMPGEnc Plus 2.5" AND "TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress" in the upgraded version of the entire 2.5 package, then does 3.0 also contain an MPEG Editor? Also if 3.0 is an "upgrade" then that Mpeg editor should be at least as good or better than 2.5, right? Although, probably, not as good as the new stand alone MPEG PRODUCT.. Am I correct?

Anyway, as you can see, I'm confused by the whole thing.

I want to buy 3.0 XPress but am hesitating if it doesn't have an MPEG Editor on par with 2.5.

Let me know.

Question - TE25 - TMPGenc Plus Won't Convert MPEG-2 to MPEG-1 No.42607
Heidi  2004-12-13 01:55:15 ( ID:hwmnultnrqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi everyone. I am using the newest version of TMPGenc Plus. I went into MPEG tools and De-Mux'd a MPEG-2 file into a m2v and mp2 files. While staying in MPEG tools, I then tried to multiplex these files into a MPEG-1 file. Trying both the "Simple Multiplex" and "Multiplex" tabs, and trying all 4 of the MPEG-1 types in the drop down box (automatic, VBR, VCD, and VCD non-standard), I have not been able to convert the m2v and mp2 files into a MPEG-1. The output is always a MPEG-2 file.

I have no problem converting MPEG-1 files into MPEG-2, but it doesn't seem to want to convert MPEG-2 to MPEG-1. The output always stays MPEG-2, even though I select the various MPEG-1 options as the output type.

Please help me guys.

Heidi

You can't change MPEG2 to MPEG1 just by multiplexing. You can put MPEG2-Videostreams into a MPEG1-System-Stream, but the Video will stay at MPEG2

Ok. So how do I do it?
Thanks.

Bug report - TE30 - [BUG] VBV Buffer Problem No.53376
ChinPhek Ong  2004-12-11 14:36:27 ( ID:4bbk5n9bato )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When "Video mode" is set to "3:2 pulldown playback", the encoded video stream fails the VBV buffer test using the program "Mprobe". Please verify this. Thank you.

Question - TE30 - Why won't express author the dvd? No.53374
harrybones  2004-12-11 10:48:11 ( ID:3ea6ecdtnbf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I convert an .avi to dvd format, all I get is one big file that won't burn for a dvd. I have to use Dvd Author to re-convert to .vob. Why?

ChinPhek Ong  2004-12-11 15:18:30 ( ID:4bbk5n9bato )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

DVD authoring requires .vob files.
However, inside each .vob file are elementary video stream and elementary audio stream produced by TMPGEnc.

The "container" is different but the "content" is the same.

The re-conversion by DVD author should NOT take a long time, since all it needs to do is to re-mux and not re-encode. If you experience re-encoding rather than re-muxing, I suggest you check the encoding parameter or check the dvd authoring software.

Question - TE30 - Sampling Rate No.53370
Bradb  2004-12-10 19:19:23 ( ID:lvyf8ie/czh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I noticed that the highest sampling rate for video is 9200kbps. I would like to set this higher. I am encoding AVI files that are about an hour in length. Even when I use the 9200kbps setting the resulting file is much smaller than 4gig. If could set the sampling rate higher I think I could achieve better quality for one hour length files. Is there a way to adjust this to a higher rate?

ChinPhek Ong  2004-12-11 14:43:35 ( ID:4bbk5n9bato )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can try using "MPEG Output" template instead of "DVD" template

El Duende  2004-12-12 04:17:57 ( ID:.ulzch.sckj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I tried playing with all those options. That does affect aspect ratio, position, etc., but I essentially still have the same problem. What should be a full-screen or wide-screen image, like the original file, still appears as a smaller image in the center of the screen. Has anyone else had this problem?

Question - TE30 - TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress Help - Video Resizing Problems No.53367
El Duende  2004-12-09 23:30:11 ( ID:.ulzch.sckj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I'm new to video conversion, and am having a problem with TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress. I'm trying to convert avi/mpeg files into VCD/SVCDs. The problem is, that no matter what I seem to do, TMPGEnc resizes and centers my videos, so they display as a fraction of the original size and surrounded by borders.

I've tried manually resizing, cropping the image, changing the resize options, but get the same result. More confusingly, TMPGEnc previews the file as being fullscreen (or nearly so, for widescreen videos) like the original, but the final result is just a small box of video in the center of my screen or TV. I've used older versions of TMPGEnc before, and had no trouble. I'm sure this is some obvious newbie error on my part, but i'm pretty frustrated at the moment. Any advice on what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

ChinPhek Ong  2004-12-11 14:49:23 ( ID:4bbk5n9bato )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I agree that the preview is not as good as the free version (2.5).

Perhaps, you can try setting the "Image position" option to "Full screen" or "Full Screen (No Margin)". The "keep aspect ration" checkbox might also affect your output.
