Bug report - TDA1 - TDA doesn't read show properly No.49149
Nohbdy  2004-05-24 00:25:23 ( ID:9mvuas2.08h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The DVD is Farscape, Season 2 Volume 3, disc B.

It's the first disc in the series' DVD history that has three titles on it, it is the "Look at the Princess" trilogy.

The second movie on the disc is title 11.

TMPGEnc DVD Author will *NOT* read it correctly. Even if it is re-encoded by other DVD authoring softwares at 100% (I've tried two: Clone DVD; and DVD Shrink).

Each time it reads the title, which is over 46 minutes in length, to 00:19:33;14 but will not go any further. It assumes that is the end of the title.

Needless to say, it's wrong.

Question - TE25 - Inverse Telecine (IVTC) doesn't reduce file size No.41707
johnmeyer  2004-05-23 16:55:24 ( ID:nre0npc0wy2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If I use TMPGenc's Inverse Telecine feature, and then encode at a frame rate of 23.976, I get the same file size as when I do NOT use the IVTC feature and encode at 29.97. I use the same bitrate and encoding format (CBR) for both. (I tried encoding at 23.976 both with and without the pulldown flag).

I was expecting to see a file size that was 23.976/29.97 = 80% of the original size. I was then going to increase the bitrate to get the file size back up to the same as the 29.97 encode, thus getting not only the quality increase from encoding the intermediate blended frames created by the telecine process, but also by encoding fewer frames.

Why doesn't the file size get smaller when using IVTC??

ashy  2004-05-23 18:11:08 ( ID:jitozw1gquh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well it's obvious really.
It doesn't matter what frame rate you use the file size will always remain constant if you use CBR encoding methods.

For example 1500 kilobits a second is 1500 kilobits a second regardless of the resolution, frame rate or anything else.

The only factor that will determine the file size when using the same CBR bit rate is the length of the source.

Also you do realise creating an MPEG of 23.976 fps is not a legal frame rate for NTSC VCD/SVCD/DVD?

Another point to bear in mind is that there are no real extra frames in telecined material. Just flags to tell the decoder to add the frames during playback. This is why the file size doesn't change in the telecined material compared to the original progressive material.

Question - TE25 - p3.dll & p4.dll errors when converting from .avi No.41705
G  2004-05-23 16:25:31 ( ID:30thgo3l5af )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I am attempting to convert other .mpg & .avi files, I have been receiving a p3.dll & p4.dll error when it is about 1/2 way done. This did not use to occur. What can I do to make it stop? I have attempted reloading the program...as well as making a copy of the p3 & p4 drivers into my system32 folder...and that still does not work. I am currently using Windows XP OS. Could there be something clashing with these drivers?

Thank you for any help on this.

G

Go ahead and use the search feature if you want. It won't bite I promise.

Bug report - TE30 - Trial expired after install No.53096
dialtone  2004-05-23 03:06:56 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What's the deal here? I installed the trial version on two seperate computers. BOTH pop up with the trial has expired. My God, I get an e-mail advertising a new trial version and it's already expired when I install it one day later.

I see that I'm not the only one to experience this. This does not bode well for credibility.

dialtone  2004-05-24 13:52:16 ( ID:4nkefs6u8rk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Two days later, I try to launch the program. This time it gets the license information correctly and the Trial is to begin.

I am in no way impressed that it is working after two days. IF I were to BUY this program and had to wait days to use it, when I wanted to use it, I would be very pissed off.

I asked this in another thread and I'll ask it here again.

What happens if Pegasys loses it's internet service? This could be caused from one of a million or so reasons. Maybe a disgruntled employee, a virus, a hacker, poor economy, the list goes on. If this license call back fails, the software stops working.

Maybe it's permanent. Maybe it's a delay of 6 hours. Or 6 days. Can you afford to spend your money on with this kind of risk? Can you afford to delay your work because the license won't access the update site?

This information should be more widely available. Not many people are aware that this BBS is even here.

Slappy  2004-05-21 23:53:30 ( ID:d./d9i9jflm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Looks like this periodic licensing could be the demise of TMPGenc as the encoder of choice. At least I'll be able to author the DVD's I create with CCE and MainConcept with the TMPGenc DVD Author.
The makers of TMPGEnc Xpress 3.0 should also visit the forums at www.videohelp.com for more feedback on the periodic license debacle.

I agree, periodic license renewal will kill the product
I own lots of software that prevents sharing of license key, such as WinXP Pro, it does not require periodic license activation.

Question - TE25 - Audio Clean up No.41702
Adonisxx  2004-05-21 19:32:11 ( ID:17meu6bo1vr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello guys, for example if you download a movie off the internet that has audio problems such as a muffled sound and hissing is there a way to clean the audio up with TMPGEnc????

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

ashy  2004-05-21 20:45:49 ( ID:jitozw1gquh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, you need an audio editor such as Goldwave or Cooledit(recommended).

Question - TE25 - Use TMPG to covert .avi into Pinnacle Studio 9 proj? No.41701
Gary Sitton  2004-05-21 18:52:46 ( ID:ansct4mopdj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have some old Movie Shaker files that I have saved as .avi files. I am wondering if I can use TMPGEnc to convert the files into a format that can be imported to Studio 9 from Pinnacle. When I run the conversion on a small sample file, I get a .m2v file and a .wav file; however, I have no clue how to get this to a Pinnacle format. Any help would be much appreciated.

Question - TE25 - M2v files greater than 4.7 gig No.41698
Vern  2004-05-21 18:05:59 ( ID:bvjpyy6ndw. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am encoding an .avi file that I digitized from a VHS tape. The encoded file will be greater than 4.7 gig so will not fit on one DVD blank. What process should I use to break the resultant .m2v file into to parts so that I can burn 2 DVDs?

ashy  2004-05-21 20:44:16 ( ID:jitozw1gquh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How long is the AVI?
If it's around the 2hr mark then you should be able to fit this no problem on one disk with great quality using VBR mode.
However, if you must split it you can either use the source range function to split it while encoding or split it after encoding with the MPEG tools.

Unless this AVI is very long you must have your bitrate set too high for it to be larger than 4.7GB (actually 4.37GB)
I think you're gonna find it unecessary to split it to 2 disks especially seeing as it is captured from a low quality source such as VHS anyway.

Thanks for the feedback.

Question - TE30 - No overwrite file warning No.53093
anton  2004-05-21 06:36:05 ( ID:at0ygnxhyen )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

T3 allows me to output to m2v and ac3 using a file name that already exists, there is no warning most of the times, on rare occasions only, the warning works

Question - TE30 - Trial and 59.94fps No.53092
wcpaul  2004-05-21 06:24:52 ( ID:m8km0qiv2po )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Got the trial working.

Two more annoyances. The major features I need are AC3 audio and 59.94fps encoding. AC3 is almost certainly not enabled in the trial (bummer). But what about 59.94fps? There is even a drop down selection for that frame rate.

When selected in MPEG Output mode, an error says it is not a legal frame rate. But I can find no way to select MP@HL like in TMPGEnc 2.5.

Is this a bug or is High Level just not available in the trial?

Question - TE30 - T3 missing T2.5 feature No.53091
anton  2004-05-21 05:48:52 ( ID:at0ygnxhyen )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am unable to encode wav audio to mp2 or ac3 without adding a video file. I can use T2.5 for audio encoding without video. T3 insists on video!

Request - TE30 - Limited Image sequence formats No.53090

TMPGenc has been a staple here for DVD authoring and MPEG1, for the last couple of years, and it is disappointing to see that .tga image sequences are no longer supported in the 3.X release.

While I realise that we are in a minority of users, as a high end post production company, image sequences are the foundation of the workflow here, so being able to use .tif or .tga files is a necessity. Unfortunately .bmp or jpg won't cut it.

Is there any intention of adding this support, or are we stuck on version 2.5?

Regards,

Richard
