Question - TME1 - Cannot open MPG files No.54358
Guest  2005-03-09 01:07:09 ( ID:asajn6xuvz6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm wondering why.
If I select the language to be English in the program and I trying to load in a MPG file, it says the MPG cannot be openned.

However, if I change TMPGEnc to use other language, I can load in the MPG file no problem.

Can Anyone tell me why?

Request - TE25 - AVI to MPEG1 or MPEG2 No.43005
rakaposhi  2005-03-08 14:24:17 ( ID:rahsx4mu4ca )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am new on this post. I was able to successfully convert AVI to MPG format for both SVCD and MPEG2 format. The converted file is a single mpg file. I can not play this play on Power DVD and not even on my home DVD player. but I can play it in Realplayer. Have I done something wrong? I used Sonic Record Now for buring CD.

Is there any guide for encoding and burning process?

aldaco12  2005-03-14 13:33:23 ( ID:oqc/f/b5mok )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Making a MPEG-1 (for VCD) or a MPEG-2 (for a SVCD) is only the 1st step. Now you should make mpeg-1 ---> VCD or mpeg-2 --> SVCD.

Just be careful to split (e.g. with MPEG Tools ____ Merge & Cut) the movie into pieces < 830 MB [usually 2, for SVCDs you can also choose 3] and to use VCDGear or Nero or VCDEasy to make mpeg --> VCD/SVCD image [usually (S)VCD1.bin/(S)VCD1.cue plus (S)VCD2.bin/(S)VCD2.cue].

Finding the right settings for having a MPEG-2 file = 830 MB is a little tricky, I use FitCD and TMPGenc 2-pass encoding for this.

Question - TE25 - How to Cut & Edit DVD ".VOB " files using TMPGen2.5? No.43002
dragonfly  2005-03-08 12:12:51 ( ID:soivqefi9xo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been trying to use TMPGEnc 2.5 to edit & cut some DVD videos but having problems. On the Project Wizard window I select DVD & try to load the ".vob" files but an error message "...cannot open or not supported." keeps popping up. So how do I go about editing & cutting DVD files into shorter videos to burn on a dvd burner? If it's possible please explain step by step procedure.
Thanks.

aldaco12  2005-03-14 13:27:04 ( ID:oqc/f/b5mok )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I never used TMPGenc for VOBs, but maybe you need TMPGenc Plus to open mpeg-2 files...

aldaco12  2005-03-14 13:45:13 ( ID:oqc/f/b5mok )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

maybe you can open the VOB with VOBEdit first, then using TMPGenc...

Question - TE25 - TMPGenc Plus: no video No.43000
taboo  2005-03-07 23:01:16 ( ID:/hfyfzcuivj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello People,

My TMPGenc Plus suddenly crashed and now when I am trying to open AVI files I do NOT see Preview (because its black) and output is also black (contains no video) but only audio.

Never had this problem before

1.I reinstalled TMPGenc Plus
2.I installed FFDSHOW
3.My AVIs playing normally in Windows Media Player and VirtualDub
4.I raised priority to the top for DirectShow Multimedia File Reader

What possibly can be wrong?

Thank you in advance,
taboo

Question - TE30 - Playback time discrepancy No.53422
bfinney  2005-03-07 01:17:42 ( ID:imwgov5lsmk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've noticed that m2v files encoded by TMPG are always shorter in duration than the source avis. For example, I recently encoded an avi that was 1:18:53 in length. The resulting m2v (and mpg when I didn't go to elementary streams) was 1:18:48. The corresponding ac3 file was 1:18:53, as expected.

So the question is, what accounts for the 5 second discrepancy? This isn't a one-time event, and the time difference seems to vary linearly with the length of the clip.

Anybody know what's going on here?

SharkHead  2005-03-06 20:16:11 ( ID:14zcefbuy8c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am getting an error code when I try to encode an .avi into elementary streams--the code is 29 809119792--does anyone know what this means? It is only doing it on one file-the file does not appear to be corrupt in any way!

TIA,

Question - TE25 - 80 hour encode - help No.42997
newbster  2005-03-06 03:40:54 ( ID:wpuq41wjucf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I am new to encoding. Actually I am trying to capture personal home movies. I used Vdub to capture to HufYUV codec YUY2 for a 1.5hour movie, and it came out to 40gb. No problems at all, it plays fine. I want the final format to be xvid. I was going to use Avisynth to correct color and other stuff, but I found that it was much to cumbersome, one of my friends suggested TMPGENC along with VFAPI to output to xvid.

He told me to select all my settings and save the project as a .tpr file or something like that, then use VFAPI to output to AVI. I ran VFAPI exe and set the input as the tpr and the output as blah.avi, but when I did this, the output file ended up being 1gb and took only like 3minutes to encode, but the video was messed up - it skipped about every 15 frames or so. So when I tried to figure what the problem was, I went to TMPGENC and noticed that I can save the output to AVI without using VFAPI - when i tried this, it said that the encode time would be 80hours. it is still running. is this normal???

ashy  2005-03-06 13:38:03 ( ID:c9rwdyebxxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First off I would not use TMPG for what you are trying to acheive.
I would stick with Virtualdub. It is far better at it, faster and the quality will be better.

What is the problem you are having using Virtualdub. It is fairly easy to grasp?

Question - TE25 - When converting from avi to mpeg, the file size now is always over 1gb. Why?? No.42986
sandra627  2005-03-05 16:42:27 ( ID:xfjclk2e7yj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I didn't have this problem when converting from avi to mpeg with 2 or 3 other files. But now, whenever I try to convert them, the file size seems to always be larger than 1gb. What am I doing wrong? I didn't change any settings. They're all the same as before. Even the format is the same (NTSC under Video CD). Please help. The file sizes should only be around 400-something mb, not OVER 1gb.

ashy  2005-03-06 13:40:16 ( ID:c9rwdyebxxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What are you trying to do create a VCD?

If you have reduced the standard VCD bitrate to make a smaller file then you MUST select 'MPEG1 VCD (non standard)' as the output type.

Run your existing MPEG through the simple multiplxer using the setting above. It will remove the padding and should reduce the size of the file.

sandra627  2005-03-11 12:28:57 ( ID:xfjclk2e7yj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not trying to create a vcd, I'm just simply trying to convert an avi file to mpeg/mpeg1. I did not reduce the standard VCD bitrate. I have not changed any settings at all. I always use the "non standard" setting.

sandra627  2005-03-11 12:32:49 ( ID:xfjclk2e7yj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I also can't change the bitrate setting as I have the free version.

ashy  2005-03-11 13:38:37 ( ID:c9rwdyebxxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have no idea why you wish to create an ordinary MPEG as you will not reduce the size, but the quality will be reduced.
The output size depends on 2 things, the length of the source and the output bitrate.
What is the length of the AVI?

To change the bitrate you must 'Unlock' the settings first by loading the 'Unlock.mcf' in the template folder.

aldaco12  2005-03-14 13:40:25 ( ID:oqc/f/b5mok )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Then which is the problem? 10' VCD movie = 100 MB. It's a simply rule. Therefore 1 CD-R = 80' VCD and you'll use 1 CDs for an average movie.
What's the problem? Just use Settings___Advanced___Select Range [CD1: 0--F frames; CD2: F+1-->end (-1 frames)] or File___MPEG Tools___Merge & Cut (type: MPEG-1 Video-CD).

This didn't help. I still can't change the bitrate settings. Do you want pictures of what's going on?

I'm trying to convert avi files to mpeg format so that the files can be played on a dvd player for a friend. And I'm still getting the same result. The file size is still going way over 1gb.

sandra627  2005-03-20 00:56:16 ( ID:xfjclk2e7yj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

One last thing. The length of the original avi file is 43 minutes, but if I try to convert it to mpeg1, it'll change to 117 minutes.

In your earlier post you said you weren't trying to create a VCD.
If you wish to play an MPEG on a DVD player it has to be either DVD/SVCD or VCD. VCD is MPEG1.

To solve your length problem try raising the priority of the 'Directshow file reader' to top of the list in the VFAPI plugins.

Sorry, I forgot it is a VCD I'm creating. Anyways, making the Directshow file reader a higher priority seems to work. :) Thanks so much for yer help. :)

Question - TDA1 - How to add subtitles do a dvd? No.49364
Steven Bao  2005-03-04 06:17:14 ( ID:1jl.pnhcxz6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I tried to make a dvd, I encourntered a problem about how to add subtitles do the final dvd files. I searched a lot of articles, but failed to find a satisfying answer that dvds I made can show up with captions.
Any one can help me out please?
Thanks in advance.

B_Racer  2005-03-04 09:48:06 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TDA isn't able to produce DVDs including subtitles.
You need other Programs like IFOEdit (free, but no menus), DVDLab Pro (200 $ but one of the best authoring tools) or DVD Author + GUI (Free, but with a little complicated handling).

Use the same aspect ratio as you normally would, but click the "settings" button, then the advanced tab, then clip frame. Then in "arrange settings change the options to "Center (custom size)" and then input the size as 660x430. This way you will keep the correct ration but still be able to see the subs as well.

Hope that helps.

How in the heck can you give that advice if you don't even know the resolution nor the aspect ratio of the source AVI?
