Is there no merge function in tmpeg xpress 3 anymore like in tmpeg v2.5 ?
It could save alot time with unnessecary recoding.

Question - TE25 - Improving Audio? No.41944
Sakuya  2004-07-12 07:53:47 ( ID:lzt2hooc9jk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an AVI where the audio is really bad. The source was like this too. The sound is really muffled. Is there any way to make it better? Here are the specs of the audio in terms of GSpot:

Codec: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Bitrate: 137 kb/s (68/ch, stereo) CBR
Fs: 48000 Hz

And I have another question about converting the video to MPEG-2 for DVD. The resolution is: 608x464 (1.31:1) [~13:10]

It is definitely supposed to be full screen. Should I use VAM Center, Full Screen, or Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)? I really don't understand which to use in cases like these.

Sakuya  2004-07-13 05:15:27 ( ID:lzt2hooc9jk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Maybe I should've asked at the Videohelp.com forums for the audio issue since it has no relation to TMPGEnc. But for some reason, Videohelp.com won't load for me (both of my computers) and yet it loads for other people. I'm wondering if my IP address got blocked by them or what but I don't remember doing anything bad at their forums. :(

Question - TE30 - TMPGEnc 2.5 x 3.0 XPress No.53221
Jacques Caixeta  2004-07-11 05:45:36 ( ID:qktp5iy7j3a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

For the experts out there that have experienced both versions.

Is the new Xpress version better, i.e. in terms of quality and speed? I'm happy with 2.5 and short of cash.

B_Racer  2004-07-12 10:18:32 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

XP3 is a bit faster (not much), and the B-Frame-Bug is corrected (this can be done in TMPGEnc 2.5x also).

If you are happy with 2.5x, stay at this version (like i do).

Question - TE25 - Compression (Settings) No.41939
Darklotusegg  2004-07-11 00:28:39 ( ID:wwfmtwaik8c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My knowledge of TMPGenc is very very basic and so basically I will just load up a file and then convert it usually altering no settings at all. So my question is this, what settings should I edit to reduce the file size of an mpeg file (whilst still retaining decent audio and visual quality) and where are those settings located? If anyone has any advice about compressing the file as another format (although Im hoping only to work with mpegs and avi's) in other programs instead then that will be appreciated too.

Thanks

B_Racer  2004-07-09 13:27:36 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What's the playtime of the Source-Movie? It's filesize doesn't matter...

ashy  2004-07-11 13:24:22 ( ID:omzfvsp0rt6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What do you mean it 8 hours to encode it?
You mean you already converted it, so what did you encode it to?

Question - TE25 - Jerky,skipping,stuttering Picture No.41933
Electric Soul  2004-07-08 16:35:40 ( ID:sibzjgw9ik2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello

I have converted tons of DV material already but now I have a serious problem.

The source has lots of fast motion in it, and when I convert the source to mpeg2(doesn't matter which format) the picture is kind of jumpy, jerky and stuttering.

CCE is able to convert the DV source correctly, but I need the filters so I have to use Tmpgenc. Maybe I should try AVISynth

It looks like Tmpgenc removes to many information so fast movements are not smooth anymore.

Following settings:

DC component precision = 10
Motion search precision = Very Slow
Field order = Tried both
Filters = Deinterlace
Use floating point DCT = Tried both
Detects scene changes = On

B_Racer  2004-07-09 13:26:35 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don't do any deinterlacing!
Field order is bff (TMPGEnc > 12a)

BobMcNobby  2004-08-09 12:16:15 ( ID:hdwe0ne2rzn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I also have this problem with some Avi's and DivX's where it jitters every second or half second.. i have only used TMPGenc simply to convert avi>dvd or divx>dvd and have no experience in setting any other parameters... it mostly does what i ask it.. but i would dearly love to get rid of the jitter

Question - TE25 - Conversion No.41925
Sakuya  2004-07-08 07:51:33 ( ID:lzt2hooc9jk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can anyone teach me how to check if my video is correctly proportioned? I can't really tell. Here is what GSpot says:

AVI Resolution: 704x480 (1.47:1) [~16:11]

I want to put it on a DVD. What Video Arrange Method should I select if it's out of proportioned?

B_Racer  2004-07-08 08:47:59 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If the Movie is 4:3 and your Target is DVD at 704x480 or 720x480, just use Center, nothing else.

Sakuya  2004-07-08 20:27:55 ( ID:lzt2hooc9jk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is that Center or Center (keep aspect ratio)? Sorry, I'm dumb. :)

Sakuya  2004-07-09 01:23:48 ( ID:lzt2hooc9jk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Also, my other files don't have the correct proportion either. Here's what GSpot says:

Resolution: 634x464 (1.34:1) [~16:12]

Should I still do the Center like above? Also, the audio codec is MPEG-1 Layer 3. It plays in Windows Media Player but in Virtualdub and VDubMOD, it said it could not decompress the audio. Why is that? Should I just convert it normally in TMPGEnc?

B_Racer  2004-07-09 13:25:10 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Center (without anything) is the best choice if TMPGEnc has not to do any resizing. If the Input size is the same than the Output size, always use Center.

Your second Movie seams to be 4:3 (something like that...).

For a propper fit i suggest to clip it to 628x464.
Use Center (Custom size) 688,464
Target size is 704x480 (NOT 720x480)!

Sakuya  2004-07-10 01:17:25 ( ID:lzt2hooc9jk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks. Is there a difference between Center and Full Screen? I thought the output size is 720x480 because that's the standard? Then the input size (704x480) is not the same as the output size...?

B_Racer  2004-07-11 00:03:15 ( ID:f0tdjnbzg.2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

704x480 is also standard-DVD-Size.

Full Screen always trys to fit the Video to full size (resizing). But in this case, this will lower the Quality (and the Conversion-Speed).

Center takes the Video as is and does nothing to it.

Center (custom size) does a resizing to the given size - that's what you want.

BTW: It is better to do the Resizings in AVISynth and use always Center in TMPGEnc, because the Resizers of AVISynth are much better.

ashy  2004-07-11 13:22:00 ( ID:omzfvsp0rt6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I agree I have recently been trying out the new LANCZOS4 resizer in AVISYNTH with excellent results.
Reduces mice teeth and stair stepping to a minimum and are hardly noticible when compared to some other resizing methods.

Question - TDA1 - Menu not showing on standalone player No.49193
Paul  2004-07-08 00:50:11 ( ID:8xnkfi9czx. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Trialling DVD Author at the moment with CD-RW and Nero's miniDVD option. All works well on my PC with PowerDVD -- the menu is the first thing shown (as I requested), but on my standalone DVD player (LG) there is no menu at all and the first track is played... and it won't let me press the Menu button to go to the menu. PowerDVD does all this just fine, so I doubt it's the miniDVD's fault... probably just my standalone LG player? Thoughts?

Sakuya  2004-07-08 06:41:57 ( ID:lzt2hooc9jk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

In the Menu configuration screen in TDA, at the top right, make sure the drop down menu is at "Display Main Menu." Also, this happened to me whenever I use TDA author. My DVD remote has 2 buttons: Title and Menu. For TDA DVDs, I can return to the menu using Title. Menu doesn't work for me for some reason. It might be because I'm only using a main menu and no chapter selection menus. Why don't you try that on your remote as well to see if it would work?

Paul  2004-07-12 03:26:09 ( ID:8xnkfi9czx. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, it is set to "Display Main menu" in all options for it.
Also, pressing Title does nothing -- it doesn't go to the menu.
Further, pressing Next Chapter from the playing clip doesn't go
to the menu either. Either my player is bad (doubt it) or TDA
has a few issues at this time.

WauloK  2004-07-25 09:48:00 ( ID:oycyzbxb0cc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Seems to be an LG thing.
My LG won't display menus made with TMPGeng DVD Author but my Toshiba will.

inabsentia  2004-08-29 18:26:33 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My DVD player is the LG DVR 4810 player/recorder, and I have exactly the same problems..Any disc I create using TMPGEnc DVD Author, the menu's will simply not play on the LG, but are fine on three other brands I've tried them on.

inabsentia  2004-08-30 02:38:39 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just downloaded v1.6 trial and created a DVD, and what do you know, the menu's work on the LG player....

Question - TE25 - Sample files No.41924
Frustrated  2004-07-08 00:12:50 ( ID:vd7ycve4uqw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are there any websites that contain sample avi's and their corresponding TMPGenc encoded mpeg2 files (along with settings used to encode) so that we could use them for comparison? I have been tinkering with video for over a year now and I have yet to produce an mpeg2 file that I am satisfied with the quality. It would be nice to see compare my encoded video with others.

The issue you have is a space problem.. You'll find tha the destinbation disk is not large enough .. or, alternatively that your file system is FAT32 when you need for it to be BTFS before this fella will work... Jon

Hi there

I had the same problem and solved it by changing the following option:

-> 'set output' / 'output streamtype' and then select 'ES (Video + Audio)' instead of 'System (Video + Audio)'

What ever that means - it worked for me. Can anybody explain that for me ...?

Cheers

Markus

Question - TE25 - TMPGEnc confused about length of movie No.41923
Bryguy  2004-07-07 16:22:16 ( ID:5du5kwpfxpj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert a movie of mine (XVID... yes I have the codec), it's 2:02:12 long. Unfortunately, TMPGEnc thinks its 330+ mins long. Last I checked, 2 * 60 + 2 = 122 minutes. Is it me screwing up, or is this a known isssue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
