Question - TE25 - TOTALLY AUDIOLESS No.40885
Homerjay  2004-02-07 11:24:39 ( ID:kuy7jktdqxo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to re-encode a dvd that was too big, have used smartripper and then dvd2avi which leaves me with a .d2v and a .wav file. However when i try to re-encode I get absolutely no sound, even the previews are soundless?? When finished i am left with an mpeg that plays perfectly(with no sound) and an additional .wav file that plays fine but can't seen to get them in the same place at the same time! Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me up the wall!!

Cheers

ashy  2004-02-07 17:14:47 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you saying that after importing the wa into TMPG that you have no audio resulting in the MPEG?

Try raising the priority of the 'WAV reader' in the VFAPI plugins.

You can check your audio by clicking the audio tab in advanced settings.

homerjay  2004-02-08 13:36:18 ( ID:kuy7jktdqxo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

At the end of the encoding i have a completely separate soundless mpeg and a new .wav file, both of which play fine. Could this be something to do with the bitrate of the .wav file that is keeping them separate?? When testing the audio i do get sound but the preview has no sound. Have tried upgrading the priority of the wav reader but still no joy...

ashy  2004-02-08 16:40:01 ( ID:t68xbjbwda. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

LOL...now I realise what you have done.
You have created elementary files for importing into a DVD authoring program.
If you are creating a DVD just import both files into your authoring software.

The next time you use the wizard make sure you select 'CBR MPEG-1 layerII audio(mp2)' from the drop down menu this will give you a combined Video and Audio MPEG.

Question - TE25 - Encoding test clip No.40882
Julien  2004-02-06 23:37:20 ( ID:wtp4rmesabn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

I'm using DVD2SVCD along with TMPG as encoder. How many times does 'encoding test clip' happens ?

- Encoding Test Clip D:DVD2SVCDMovieAviSynth_Script_file_CQ_TEST.avs
Wanted: 1466637817 (1432263kb)
Predicted: 1252605967 (1223248kb) Using CQ Value: 80.55
Calculated next CQ Value: 86.90
Executing TMPGEnc. Commandline:
"D:TMPGTMPGEnc.exe" "D:DVD2SVCDMovieTMPGEnc_Project_file.tpr" /Encode /Close

I dont know if this is normal or not but this 'encoding test clip' has been happening over and over again. I'd like to know if I have done something wrong or if this is a normal thing. Thanks, be a patient please I'm just a newb ;)

ashy  2004-02-07 17:16:10 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is not a TMPG problem this is a DVD2SVCD issue. Go to that forum for advice.

ashy  2004-02-07 17:19:21 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It seems that the method of CQ that you are using needs to do a test run to determine the parameters to set.
If you don't want it to happen then use CBR as the encoding method.

Question - TE25 - Creating a two-hour+ DVD No.40879
elvis  2004-02-06 07:48:49 ( ID:.6kifs3yqvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

want to make a DVD 2.5 hours in length by converting some avi files I have to the "low resolution" dvd ntsc standard. I understand how to get the resulting mpeg2 files-but how do I burn them? all burning programs i've seen set the 2 hour limit. will my set-top dvd player play a dvd with just an mpeg burned on it? what if i wanted to create menus and chapters etc?

sorry for the length. newbie, you know?

B_Racer  2004-02-06 08:51:22 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is no 2 hour limit, there are only dump Authoring-Programs. Most of my DVDs are filled with up to 5 or more hours of Video, that's absolutly nor problem.
Try TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVDLab for creating and burning your DVDs.

Question - TDA1 - Audio in the background No.49020
anonymous  2004-02-05 14:41:10 ( ID:7vay9rphki6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't understand the part about adding audio to a still background. What does it mean by "disable the background option, the first image remains and the BGM only is played"? What is the background option?

Anyone know what this means?

FAQ

It is impossible with TMPGEnc DVD Author, a specific source file has to be created. With TMPGEnc Plus, choose a still image as video source file and a wav sequence as an audio source. Encode in mpeg program stream format with sound in mp2 and use the resulting file as background. Disable the background option, the first image (still image) remains and the BGM only is played.

ChewtoyPDX  2004-02-05 18:53:33 ( ID:rkfkkg9q9dn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

On the motion menu options, there is a checkbox for that option.

anonymous  2004-02-06 04:53:58 ( ID:7vay9rphki6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the reply, but I don't understand. Which option is the "background option"?

"Use motion menu"?
or is it maybe under that,
"Additional pictures for backgrounds etc."?

What do I enable and what should be disabled? What about the three boxes underneath "Use motion menu"?

Chewtoypdx  2004-02-06 17:53:01 ( ID:rkfkkg9q9dn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Uncheck the use additional item, but then be sure to check use BGM on the same screen. I don't have the screen in front of me right now, so I can't tell you exactly what it says.

Andreas  2004-02-29 13:28:37 ( ID:.e.lumeuie2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!

Thats what I don't understand, too!
I have a jpg image as menu background and I want to have music in the background.
When I select an mpg-file as menu background, I'm forced to select an
image from that mpg-file, but I want to keep my jpg-image, I just want the
audio stream out of this mpg file!
Is there a way how to do this?

Thanks for your answers!
Bye!
Andi

Chewtoypx  2004-03-01 21:14:25 ( ID:rkfkkg9q9dn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Then use the image you want as your background as part of the mpeg file that contains the music you also want. I use tmpgenc plus to create the mpg file with the background image and music i choose.

Question - TE25 - Which encoder to use for TMPGenc No.40872
Dennis Lowe  2004-02-05 13:05:29 ( ID:dro3epfsbrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I've been playing with TMPGenc Plus (2.521.58.169) and its great! I mainly use it for converting HD (1289x720) M2T files to AVI for use in a film compositing package (Combustion).
I've noticed that it uses my elecard mpeg encoder, is there a way to change what I assume to be its default encoder?
I have recently discovered VLC mpeg player (its very fast)and looks gorgeous, can I make the VLC encoder work with TMPGenc?

B_Racer  2004-02-05 13:35:26 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc IS an Encoder and does not use an other. Your Elecard-Thing is a DEcoder (only for Playback), and it's trail periode is over, eh?

If you have problems to open MPEG2 with TMPGEnc, try mme (google: mme +vfapi)

Dennis Lowe  2004-02-05 14:33:53 ( ID:dro3epfsbrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No I bought the Elecard 2.1 player and it does what it says on the tin! but when I check my M2T files via G-Spot it tells me that it is using Elecard codec.
I am new to this part of the world and am used to physical frames that I can composite with various images and I'd like to be able to dictate which decoder I want TMPGenc to use.

ashy  2004-02-07 17:23:17 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>No I bought the Elecard 2.1 player and it does what it says on the tin! but when I check my M2T files via G-Spot it tells me that it is using Elecard codec.

Yes and as B_racer already told you that means that your the Elecard codec is being used to decode the file not encode it.

Every movie file needs a codec to decode it so it can be played back. Yours is using the Elecard codec for decoding MPEG2.

ashy  2004-02-07 17:26:35 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>I am new to this part of the world and am used to physical frames that I can composite with various images and I'd like to be able to dictate which decoder I want TMPGenc to use.

You don't seem to be getting the message!

TMPG is already an encoder that uses it's own internal MPEG2 encoding codec.
That's why it's called an encoder. You CANNOT use an external codec for encoding!

Why would you want to anyway? TMPG is one of the best quality encoders around.

Dennis Lowe  2004-02-08 10:37:40 ( ID:dro3epfsbrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK It's finally sunk in!
Thanks for persistance, Can anybody recommend a good teaching guide on mpeg technology?

Question - TE25 - Converting b&w footage No.40867
Paul  2004-02-05 02:45:26 ( ID:vpe9qbj3bjr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to convert a b&w TV show from DV AVI to MPG1, and thought there'd be an option to convert to greyscale somewhere... is there? Reason: The resulting MPG would be smaller if it contained greyscale data only, rather than being a colour MPG containing just b&w footage? Or am I way off base here? :)

ashy  2004-02-05 12:43:52 ( ID:4mt1ots/7tc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think MPEG 1/2 supports greyscale data only.
There are only two colour space profiles available with TMPG that's 4:2:0 and 4:2:2
If there is a colour cast being added to the MPEG you can remove it with the colour settings, but as for producing greyscale only I think your out of luck.

Paul  2004-02-05 13:01:58 ( ID:vpe9qbj3bjr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi Ashy, I just found the solution:

Advanced
Custom Color Correction
Add
Mode = Saturation
Type = YUV
Saturation level = -255 (0 = default).

This changes the output MPG from color to B&W -- woohoo! :)
However, I did a test and the output size is the exact same
as a color version, so there's no real need to use it when
converting an already B&W AVI to MPG... all it would be doing
is adding filter time to the entire process. Useful to know
for changing color AVIs to B&W, though. :)

Paul  2004-02-05 13:04:08 ( ID:vpe9qbj3bjr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi again Ashy, I said: "I did a test and the output size is the exact same"...
Hehehe, I just realized this is what you meant by MPGs not supporting grey data,
ie. it's still a "color" MPG but just made up of greys from the 24-bit palette.

ashy  2004-02-07 17:30:25 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, that is what I was getting at in my previous post.

Question - TE25 - dvd's audio to cd r in .wav format? No.40863
daygo140  2004-02-04 21:25:33 ( ID:6t0cbiyxnza )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

pretty much the title says it all.

ashy  2004-02-05 13:01:04 ( ID:4mt1ots/7tc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are we talking about the audio on a DVDvideo or DVDaudio?
If it's the former then you can use VOB2AUDIO to rip the audio to a wav or Mp3.

Question - TE25 - Out of Sync No.40857
Hippyer  2004-02-03 23:04:13 ( ID:rb3ac8lqd7. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've looked around on the forums for this and there have been numerous problems with the audio being out of sync, I've tried some of the suggested solutions but without luck.

The original AVI that I am trying to rip to be put on DVDr is in sync.

When I extract the audio from a movie (big wav file) it is the same length as the length of the film. But I get an error at first saying

"VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during the processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 6042 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress te entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 115.7 +/- 11.1 kbps)"

what I do then go to full processing mode and save as WAV in VirtuaDub. Then in TMPGenc use the AVI as the source and the new wav file as. It's then out of sync, I think it starts off out of sync and gradually gets worse. I've tried to edit the file size in Adobe Audition as I read in other posts on this forum to stretch it using Cool Edit, but searching google said that it's now Adobe Audition. I don't know if you can use this? I did find the stretch option in this program but wasn't sure what to compress it as, or what settings to change. I found one where it mentions to choose a manual fps, so I changed that to 29.97 as that's what it says it is in virtuadub. But that just made it worse.

So what is a constant bitrate encoder? Is this what I need to do, use some other software to recompress the WAV in the bit rate of 115.7 +/- 11.1 kbps? Can someone help explain for me how to do this using a reccomended piece of software. Thanks

Hippyer

ashy  2004-02-03 23:30:24 ( ID:ehq4qkv3gtr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Virtualdub cannot handle VBR MP3 correctly. You will need 'Virtualdub MP3 Freeze' to do the job properly.

Hippyer  2004-02-04 00:05:46 ( ID:rb3ac8lqd7. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

choosing save WAV produces a 843kb WAV file. Should I do something different with mp3 freeze?

Hippyer  2004-02-04 02:58:46 ( ID:rb3ac8lqd7. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Still stuck with this :(

ashy  2004-02-05 12:11:36 ( ID:4mt1ots/7tc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Of course you will still have a wav file.

The point is that it will no longer be out of sync.
'Virtualdub MP3 Freeze' is specially made to handle VBR mp3 'Virtualdub' is NOT.
If 'Virtualdub MP3 Freeze' does not work then NANdub will and if that doesn't then it must be a problem with the audio itself.

In that case you will have to find how much delay has been introduced by simply reloading the wav back into Virtualdub with the avi and then use the delay correction option.

Question - TE25 - Playback through DVD player No.40851
Bruce Henderson  2004-02-03 21:16:41 ( ID:vbater6jvqa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm just new at this I have just downloaded TMPGEnc freeware and I have converted and AVI file into mpeg1 then I burnt it onto a CDR I then tried to play it on my DVD Player which does DVD VCD and VACD but when I insert the disk it comes up with cant read disk, I also have an MPEG file on another disk that works ok on my PC but my DVD Player wont read the disk. Can anyone help me??
(My player is a Sony DAVS-500)

Bruce Henderson  2004-02-03 21:53:47 ( ID:vbater6jvqa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just another thing do I need a DVD writer and not just a CD Writer?

ashy  2004-02-03 23:11:02 ( ID:ehq4qkv3gtr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sony DVD players are terrible for VCD/SVCD CDR compatibility.
You need to find a disk that will work with it. Try a CDRW, these usually work with the SONY DAVS-300

Go here http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php to see what disks your player is compatible with.

paul  2004-02-04 04:47:30 ( ID:590ch7buz56 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

you need a newer dvd player. i have an older jvc that says it will play vcd's but it does not. i bought a new polaroid (sp) dual deck last month and every vcd i burn works great. i use the newest nero.

gbagman37  2004-02-05 05:15:27 ( ID:aks1ajzl/6r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Some DVD Players will play VCDs and SVCDS but not CD-r's.

ashy  2004-02-05 12:17:50 ( ID:4mt1ots/7tc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yeh it's a con when some of them say they will play VCD. They mean commercial not home made.
Sony are buggers for this.
However many players that will play VCD, but not home made CDR, will actually play CDRW. This is because the laser wavelength reflected from a CDRW is closer to that of a DVD than CDR's.

Question - TE25 - error message "*.avi" can not open, or unsupported. No.40847
Dj_Qbert_Disciple  2004-02-03 18:36:03 ( ID:vix5lwzgkuj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc (free version) on P4 + Athlon 2000. Athlon works ok, initially it was coming up with an error message regarding the P3.dll. And the same AVI on the P4? i get the error message "*.avi" can not open, or unsupported.

I had a problem before with writing to SVCD on both with Nero 5. Then installed a different Plugin on both, the Athlon works fine! P4? you guessed it. nope. It's not completely messed up, as it does like some AVIs... just not all of them.

Thanking you in-advance.

localiza DirectShow Multimedia File Reader y haz click-derecho en el rat05Ï sobre ñÍ, dale el menú que aparece sobre higher priority hasta que se ponga en el comienzo de la lista.
