Question - TE25 - Newbie question about "illegal mpeg video straem" No.35469
steve  2003-03-13 21:30:40 ( ID:nsaxjv/ogca )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am new to TmpgEnc. I have downloaded a multi part mpeg movie and tried to put it all together in TMPGEnc's "Merge & Cut". But with this particular movie I keep getting the "illegal mpeg video straem" error message so I cant do anything with the downloaded file. Anyone have any suggestions or know of another program that I may be able to join them with.

Thanks
Steve

Ashy  2003-03-13 21:48:31 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is a problem with the way the file has been mutiplexed. MPEG2VCR will join this file and should make it usable in TMPG again.

steve  2003-03-14 04:12:14 ( ID:nsaxjv/ogca )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi ASHY, I tried the program. But it would not load any of the mpeg files. All of the files are ok and play ok in windows media player, but I cant load them into anything to join them.

The Files are Probably Corrupt, I have had the exactly the same Problem with allmost every Mpeg file I have downloaded, They Play fine and most will Burn to disk fine(Some give errors when trying to burn) and Most play fine on the DVD Player...If you can get a Program called "M2-edit Pro 5" it has a Re-packetizeing Feature that should fix the File(Hopefully) but if not you can just burn the files as tracks on the CD but there will be a Small Gap between each part on the CD-r..If you want to re-encode them(I wouldn"t) you might get DVD2AVI to load them sequentially and Frameserve them to Tmpgenc as one Big file...just a Couple Thoughts....

Ashy  2003-03-14 21:35:21 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Which version of MPEG2VCR did you use. The download version from the site will not allow MPEG2 streams to be opened. You need to find the full version to open MPEG2 streams.

If MPEG2VCR still won't open these files then they must be seriously corrupt because in my experience MPEG2VCR is very tolerant with MPEG's and will open 99% of these files.

Why do you wish to combine these files anyway?

As for burning the files with your burning program, the gap between tracks can easily be removed by changing the pause setting between tracks to 0.
In Nero this is accomplished by right clicking the file and selecting properties then just burn using the Disk at Once writing method.

HI ASHY, Thanks for the help. Do you have any suggestions where I may get the full version ? Steve

Mpeg2VCR Is Fairly expensive to but retail, I do know were you can get an Old version that should be a Full version, I don"t know how well the old version works But you can get it here:_http://www.apachez.net/ ,In the tools section..If that version doesn"t work Properly for you you can e-mail me and I"ll see what I can do for you...

Question - TE25 - ISO Image No.35463
AdonisXX  2003-03-13 20:43:04 ( ID:9eqgya0eucw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello guys, is there a program that will allow you to store and actual iso image onto a cdr?

Ashy  2003-03-13 21:07:43 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Any burning program will allow you to store an ISO image. Just burn as a standard ISO 9660 disk. I.E. just burn the ISO image as a normal file.
But what is the point?

ASHY

AdonisXX  2003-03-14 04:18:08 ( ID:9eqgya0eucw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The iso image that I am trying to put onto a 99 min cdr(actual iso image not burn image) is about 866MB in size, in Nero it repots to be less than 850MB at the bottom on the file size bar. I keep getting the message that the there is not enough space on the disk for this compilation. Hmmm. anyway nero is configured for over burning, works great when I am burning an image to disk. to answer your question 'whatÃÔ the point' well I use a lot of 90 min/99min cdrs for vcd's and it would be better for me to get the actual image onto cdr so that I can put the cdr with the iso image into a DVD drive and burn the image from the DVD drive to multiple cdr writers. This way I can save the space on my computer and just burn images from cdrÃÔ but your prolly wondering why not just use the copy function, well copying 90 min/99min disk is problem matic :(

Ashy  2003-03-14 21:47:57 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't really see where your problem is and yes I do realise you want to keep the ISO in it's original image format and just store it on disk.

An ISO image is just a normal file as far as Nero is concerned. As long as your burner is compatible with 99min Cdr.
Set the overburn to 99min, choose CD-ROM (ISO) and make sure you choose Disk at Once as the burn method (otherwise you won't get the option to overburn) then choose yes when Nero gives the you the option to Overburn.

ASHY

AdonisXX  2003-03-18 16:51:50 ( ID:stakpzq1suo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for your reply back Ash! To be more specific with what I am doing, is taken a vcd turning it into a Nero (nrg) file, then trying to put that nrg file onto a 99 min CDR. I have been over burning onto 90/99 min CDR for over a year now no probs there. Even though the nrg file is smaller than the target media, Nero keeps reporting that there is not enough space for this compilation. Humm, also i am doing cd-rom (iso), disc at once.

Ashy  2003-03-19 18:28:42 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think you are getting yourself confused here about the type of format you are burning.

When burning standard VCD MPEG data, a 99min disk will fit roughly 99mins of MPEG data on the disk or about 995mb. This is because MPEG doesn't need error correction bits added to the disk when burning. This is how you can fit 800mb on to a 700mb disk.
The 700mb size on an 80min disk indicates the amount of normal data which can be stored plus another 100mb for error correction which in total is 800mb per disk of storage capacity.

When burning MPEG data this extra 100mb of error correction space isn't needed so it can be used for extra data storage allowing you to store 800mb on one 80min disk.

This is the same for 99min disks.
Iam guessing you are attempting to fit more than 870mb on one 99min disk. While this is possible for MPEG data it is not possible for normal data.

Once you have created the .NRG image in Nero from the MPEG it then becomes normal data and hence when you burn this as a normal data file your storage capacity on the 99min disks becomes limited to around 870mb not 995mb like you would expect with normal MPEG data.

So just to make it a bit clearer, make sure your file size is no bigger than 870mb when burning the image as a normal data file.

To confirm what I am saying, check the amount of time in minutes which NERO gives in the pop up burning window when you click 'write'. It should say over 99mins.

***************************************************************************

If infact your file size is less than 870mb such as 866mb as you have mentioned then the only reason I can see why the over burning dialogue is not appearing, apart from ensuring the overburn is set to 99min, is because you are not burning in DAO.

You must ensure you are not trying to burn this image with the 'Start Multisession' option selected as this will automatically set the burn method to 'Track at once' as default.
Select 'No multisession' and then 'Disk at Once' as the burn method.

This should make the overburn dialogue appear when you click 'Write'

I was informes previously that it was most likely the "Angel potion Video Codec" that was causing the color distortion on my converted MPEG files, so i downloaded a new video codec and now i have no picture at all, i went back to see if i could get the Angel Potion back and when i did it made no difference, still no picture, only sound, i tried to re-download the program and that still made no difference. Plz help.

P.S. if i need to download anything, A link would be greatly appreciated, if possible.

Whatever you do Don"t use the "Angel Potion Codec"...Try this ,Go to "Options" to "Enviromental settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct Show" to "2"...

Well then Try Frameserveing it to Tmpgenc...Or you might try the FFDshow Filter , it is supposed to be better at decodeing Mpeg-4 files that the actual Mpeg-4 codecs are...

(P.S. i have no money so if it's not freeware don't recomend it unless it is the only way to fix this problem)

minion  2003-03-15 10:24:45 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You downloaded the Source Code for the filter not the actual filter itself...Go back were you downloaded it and find the one that doesn"t say SRC in the name..And if you can watch the file but just can not get tmpgenc to encode it then maybe try a Different encoder with this file..There are a few that will Give you simular results as Tmpgenc...

Ashy  2003-03-15 13:46:18 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How can you possibly have downloaded the wrong one?

It clearly states which file is which:

ffdshow-20020617-src.zip 523042 39710 i386 Source .zip = The source files

ffdshow-20020617.exe 325354 263296 i386 .exe (32-bit Windows) = The installer

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow/ffdshow-20020617.exe?download

Simply download the second one.

Question - TE25 - TMPGEnc pause while encoding? No.35448

Is it possible to pause TMPGEnc while encoding- some of encodings take over 28 hours using 2P-VBR on a 1GHz/512MB/45G-HD7200ATA100.
Thx in advance

Ashy  2003-03-13 21:50:39 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are obviously using the 'Highest' setting for the motion search precision. this is pointless and will give results no better than 'High' except for the dramatic increase in time.

Question - TE25 - 16:9...... No.35445
Hoibazupfa  Home )  2003-03-13 12:24:09 ( ID:tq0ukb8.xgj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I got a 16:9 AVI file and TEMPGenc converts it to a full screen (I guess 4:3) MPEG File. of course this makes the movie playing in a strange, warped format.
(too high or not wide enough) ... this happens in every setting TEMPenc gives to choose.

Any idea how to convert a 16:9 AVI in a 16:9 MPEG?

Thanks ...

wcpaul  2003-03-13 18:30:53 ( ID:q7gr550x3gw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Assuming the source is truly anamorphic (for NTSC that means 16:9 source filling the entire 720x480 pixel window), set the Advanced sheet/Video arrange Method to Full Screen. Set the Source Aspect Ratio to the proper 16:9 format.

In the Video sheet, set the aspect ratio to 16:9. Note that anytime you load an file, settings will pop back to non-16:9.

If an MPEG already has been encoded 4:3, use a program called DVDPatcher to correct the setting. Be careful to match all other output settings to the input file since the program does not do this in all cases.

Ashy  2003-03-13 21:20:08 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your problem is the 'Video arrange method' setting.

Set your input aspect ratio to 16:9
The 'Video arrange method' to 'Fullscreen (keep aspect ratio)'
Output aspect ratio should be set to 4:3 if the intended TV display is 4:3 or 16:9 if the TV is 16:9

If you are encoding to SVCD remember the ouput will be distorted anyway, but will be corrected by your software DVD player or your set top player.

Question - TE25 - VCD showing in top left quarter of TV? No.35441
Bowtome  2003-03-13 10:51:33 ( ID:vd4a/gcxlf6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I have used tmpgenc for a while and it was working fine in conjunction with Nero.

I downloaded new version and now when I convert to MPG, it works fine on my pc. I then convert it to VCD as I have done many times before, now when I go to watch it on my DVD player, it is 1 quarter the size of the screen and is alwasy in the top left of the TV, yes it is the full picture, just shrunk. All my previously created VCD's still play fine.

Help !! ;)

Minion  2003-03-13 22:03:05 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here is what is Confuseing me, You said that the Mpeg file plays fine on your PC Screen , but then you convert it to VCD as you have done Many times Before...If it is a Mpeg file shouldn"t it allready be a VCD(VCD is Mpeg), there for you don"t need to convert it to VCD cuz it is allready a VCD??? Anyways if the File Plays fine on your Computer then it isn"t a Tmpgenc problem But a problem with your Burning program...Encodeing the File to The Wrong Resolution will Cause the Problem that you are Haveing, so check that the Resolution of the VCD file is Compliant with VCD Specs....

Bowtome  2003-03-14 10:25:52 ( ID:vd4a/gcxlf6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok, when I meant convert to VCD, I mean take mpg file from hard disk and use nero to put it onto a cd so I can watch it on my DVD player, which is a conversion of sorts as it adds the VCD player software.

If I use winoncd 6 to create the VCD(it also does a new conversion as it says the mpg file is encoded incorrectly) then it works full screen fine.

Anybody know default tmgenc settings for creating full screen PAL ? Thanks

Ashy  2003-03-14 22:00:22 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are obviously a novice at this even though you say you have done it before many times.

To use TMPG to convert to standard VCD all you have to do is select the VCD PAL template then use the VCD option in NERO to burn and you can't go wrong, but if this file is working on your PC it can't be the encoding process unless you have encoded to some weird resolution which your DVD player cannot handle.

If the MPEG isn't encoded properly then NERO will tell you so.

Also did you split this MPEG? If so did you set the stream type to 'MPEG1 VCD'.

Post the stats of your MPEG here.

Question - TE25 - Removing sound elements No.35439
Amanoj4ku  2003-03-13 09:13:04 ( ID:/tiftjhncnh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I was just wondering if it is possible to 'clip' off elements of an audio track and then just to have an earlier element repeated in it's place. For example i have a 3 second video clip and I want to remove the audio of the last second and then repeat the sound from the first second I've tried going into "other settings" (4th option on the "source range" page). In the "MPEG" settings page I then went to the "audio" tab. Then with audio edit highlighted I tried to remove the last second of audio, but this doesn't seem to work. I'm at a loss, if you can, please help. Thankyou in advance.

Minion  2003-03-13 21:56:47 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This Definately Can NOT be done with Tmpgenc...You need a High Quality Audio editor like Sound forge to do something like this....

Minion  2003-03-13 21:53:30 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Since you have Power DVD Installed you should have the Cyberlink Mpeg2 decoder installed so Tmpgenc can open Mpeg2 files, So check the "Vfapi Plugins" and see if the "Cyberlink Mpeg2 decoder" is Registered, and if it is Try raiseing the Priority of the Plugin...But I still Find it Much easier and Faster to use DVD2AVI to Frame serve the Video to Tmpgenc to encode(Don"t encode the audio Cuz it is allready in Mpeg format)..DVD2AVI is a Faster Mpeg2 decoder that the Decoders that Tmpgenc uses....

I have a copy of an .avi and the audio is off by a few seconds. Does anybody know what program I can use to sync it w/ the video?

Thanks

insert the avi in tmpg
check the "source" box
a new box will open
at the bottom u will see audio gap correct
this bit is trial an error to get the right setting so do a few tests

Minion  2003-03-13 21:49:27 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That Might not work either depending on what type of sync problem it is...If the Audio is the Same amout out of sync the whole way through the Movie then the method described above will fix it But if say the Movie starts out in Sync but By the end of the Movie it is way out of sync then this is Much harder to fix and you would need to stretch the audio to the length of the video with an audio editing program...

One note I found said you can download it from TMPGEnc's homepage, but I sure don't find it there.....

Ashy  2003-03-13 21:30:26 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You don't need the VFAPI plugin for DVD2AVI project files. The TMPG VFAPI plugin is so TMPG can read it's own project files and is already included with the TMPG download.

Just copy DVD2AVI.vfp from the DVD2AVI folder into your TMPG folder. If you still have problems raise it's priority in the VFAPI plugins.

Question - TE25 - New to AVI, MPG and VCD No.35427
Barbi  2003-03-13 00:01:05 ( ID:sbezb30us6n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi

I'm new to this so please forgive me if this has been asked before.

I've recently downloaded some AVI files which I'd like to convert to VCD format. I have other software which copies directly from DVD to VCD and the video quality is excellent, even with just VCD settings.

However, after I've encoded the AVI using TMPGenc to MPG format, I played the MPG file on my PC and it was fine, but then using the same software that I used to copy DVD's, I copy the MPG image to VCD, and the video quality is very poor and choppy, but the audio is fine.

Could anyone please help me and tell me if there are any settings I should be doing in TMPGEnc to create a higher quality MPG file? I don't know if my player supports SVCD files or not.

I've used VCDeasy to create the VCD from DVD's and MPG but the quality is different. I obviously can appreciate that DVD quality is better to begin with, and if this is why the result is so different, then so be it. But if anyone also knows settings for VCD easy that have worked for them, I'd really appreciate it.

TIA,
Barbi

Minion  2003-03-13 21:43:11 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If the Playback is Choppy then that could be because of many things But usually because you have encoded to the wrong Frame rate..You have to find out the Frame rate of your AVI file then encode to that Frame rate, if you use a Frame rate that is Different that the AVI files frame rate then you will get this Jumpy effect when watching .....
