Question - TE25 - sound problems No.30621
rix500  2002-11-11 21:25:55 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi,I am using the progran to convert avis to vcds.when I try to convert an avi that has a frame rate of 23.9 to the correct vcd format (ntsc film) then playback is smooth but the sound keep going out,it will catch up and then go out again. If I try to convert the same avi to a pal vcd , then the playback is slightly jerky (due to the different frame rates I think),but the sound stays synced to the video.
Any sugestions would be helpfull.
p.s I have tried 3 different brands of blank cds to see if this was the problem, but it made no difference.

Minion  2002-11-11 22:22:06 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well find out the frame rate of your AVI file...23.9 isn"t nescessarily the correct frame rate for VCD 29.9 is actually a more standard NTSC format...you have to encode to the same frame rate as your AVI file ..and Virtual Dub in this case is used for extracting the audio from your avi file to a WAV file which is more compatible with TMPGenc....

rix500  2002-11-12 11:11:18 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when I convert a 23.9 avi to a 23.9 mpeg (ntsc film) then the audio is still out

Minion  2002-11-12 21:37:56 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well that is why I said to use "Virtual Dub" to extract the audio to a WAV file and use that as the audio source....geeezzz

Running on Win XP (NTFS). Produces a 275mb file then dies with that error.

Any ideas ?

Try running the program in Win 95 compatibility mode.

Also install the toolkit to the root of your drive and put the source files in the root of your drive too.

Copy the DVD2AVI.VFP file from your DVD2AVI folder into your TMPG folder.

Try raising the priority of the DVD2AVI project reader to '2'
Also create another d2v file and try again.

Question - TE25 - lagging in spots No.30609
myself  2002-11-11 20:15:14 ( ID:roynirxf6mn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i am making an mpeg to put on a vcd, and it ran good until I tried to changed the stream to the one you need for svcd (not the non-standard one though, it was even worse when I used the non-standard). Now it experiences a slow down and lag in some spots. I am on constant quality and have pumped the minimum bitrate up to 7000 (i near computer illiterate so this may have been stupid i realize) but it still experiences a slow down. would it be better if i used the mode where it scans the whole video first and then allocates bitrate or whatever. I want the best quality possible. what do i need to do to get rid of the lagging? thank you for any help

Minion  2002-11-11 22:15:23 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

that lagging you are talking about sounds like you are encodeing the file to a Different frame rate as the source file...if you avi file has a Certain frame rate the mpeg file has to have that same frame rate...so check that you are encodeing to the correct format...

Question - TE25 - cant get audio when converting dvd to mpeg No.30604
cmac73  2002-11-11 19:31:32 ( ID:ejmmgxaru1o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i have tried it several times but the first vob file doesnt have audio.all the other vob files support audio. can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong. thank you

Minion  2002-11-11 22:07:30 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How are you converting the VOB files????You NEVER Load the VOB files directly into Tmpgenc Cuz It won"t work Right....You have to use DVD2AVI to extract the audio track to a WAV file and Make a D@V project file for the video and encode that...Go to "www.vcdhelp.com...

ASHY  2002-11-11 22:09:15 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well don't give to many details on the problem!

What program are you using to extract the audio from the VOB files?

Question - TE25 - Index of Scan Line is out of Range(360) No.30602
Cypher  2002-11-11 19:26:27 ( ID:mkennyztt9l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is my first time using TMPGEnc and I'm trying to convert an AVI file to MPG-2 so I can burn it onto an SVCD.

I'm following a tutorial at http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencsvcd.htm and a couple of minutes into encoding, I get an error "Index of Scan Line is out of range(360)".

My source avi is of the following format:

Frame size, fps: 640x360, 25fps
Decompressor: DivX MPEG-4 Fast-Motion
Audio Sampling Rate: 44100Hz Stereo, MPEG-3 Compression (But I extracted it to a .wav file because I heard that not doing that can sometimes cause problems)

So my question is this, what does that error message mean? Is it a problem with my source file or with my configuration somewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Minion  2002-11-12 00:14:50 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

sounds Like a BAD AVI file....I think this has something to do with when the file is being encoded the resolution of the source file suddenly changes for like a Frame, or the frame could be corrupted...This is very common with Downloaded files..That is why i don"t use downloaded files Cuz a lot of them get corrupted through downloading...you can try to frame serve the file with Virtual Dub...

dont know what vob is. but i had also a lot of audio troubles.

use virtualdub!

check out http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm#audio
for help (just decompress audio)

gbagman37  2002-11-12 03:52:47 ( ID:aks1ajzl/6r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you trying to play your vob files just to see if they work or what? If you want to play your vob's, try installing vob filters, then you can play on Win DVD. Goto http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/encoding_vobutils.html

Minion  2002-11-12 07:58:19 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your problem is you are trying to encode VOB files with TMPGENC and you NEVER do that...

Question - TE25 - horrible playback (stopping, jerky) No.30596
myself  2002-11-11 18:39:27 ( ID:roynirxf6mn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i am trying to make a vcd, and have finally got it to where nero will not tell me there is an encoding problem. to do this I changed the stream type from: mpg system {automatic}, where the playback was beautiful, to mpg video cd {non standard}, where the playback is craptastic because it is jerky. thanks for any advice you have.

Minion  2002-11-12 00:11:52 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Jerky Playback is usually Caused By encodeing to the Wrong Frame rate...You have to encode to the same frame rate as the file you are encodeing..so if the avi has a 29.97fps frame rate you have to encode it to 29.97fps....

Question - TE25 - Burning a (short) DVD on a CD-R? No.30594
Robby Em  2002-11-11 18:18:28 ( ID:fmsbksjrang )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi everybody!

As all of you probably know, all DVD-players can't handle SVCD! :(
So, is there a way to burn a (very short!) DVD on a regular CD-R?
Maybe with just two/three musicvideos or something like that?

Maybe this is a stupid question, I don't even know that! :)

Anyway, I've created a file with the DVD-template in TMPGEnc and
really want to burn a CD with higher quality than VCD that can be
played on every DVD-player.. Possible? :)

Thank you! I hope I don't appear as a Massive Fool! :)

/Robby

ASHY  2002-11-11 22:53:51 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Nope not possible.
You may be able to fool your machine into accepting MPEG2 files by running the MPEG through the multiplexer using the 'MPEG1 VCD(non standard' setting to add a VCD header to the file.

If that doesn't work then just create an XVCD by raising the bitrate higher and increasing the resolution.

ASHY
