what is the easiest way to convert avi file to mpeg so i can make a vcd?

Lorrie  2002-09-20 08:02:23 ( ID:aac8fgjumph )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I find that avi2vcd is the easiest converter to use. It's also free. Check out http://www.vcdhelp.com/ they explain everything about nearly every program, step by step.

Make sure all of your Tmpgenc Files are in the same Folder especially the Main EXE file and the "P3P Package.DLL" file.If all else fails re-download Tmpgenc..

Question - TE25 - Audio desync No.28266
Daedalus  2002-09-19 16:35:05 ( ID:ikjrwyjojtc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, i have a problem
I'm trying to compress to videocd a divx 5.02 file, 24fps.
But i have no a/v sync from the beginning. What to do ?

Minion  2002-09-19 22:07:56 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Make sure you are encodeing it to 24fps not 23.98fps that will cause d-sync..

Question - TE25 - Problem encoding MPEG2 with TMPGenc 2.58 No.28263
Tom Clary  2002-09-19 13:58:57 ( ID:s18/htycemg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been having no luck converting a captured DV file to DVD complient video. Something always dies in TMPGenc 2.58 a number of minutes into the source material. One error message I get is "privilege order error". The other is some sort of exception. I've tried changing the priority of the plugins which only seems to change the error message.

I am running Windows XP pro and the input file is around 11Gig on an NTFS partition. Athalon XP 1500 and 512Meg RAM.

I also have not had any luck using either of the ulead DVD programs to encode the video. I have been successful in the past using this computer with Windows 98SE in encoding and creating DVD's. Quite frustrating and any help will be appreciated.

Minion  2002-09-19 22:06:14 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you are getting these errors in tmpgenc and getting errors in "Ulead" then there is most likely something wrong with the AVI file you are encodeing, have you tried to load it into Virtual Dub to scan it for errors??and if you can get Virtual dub to accept the file without any errors then use it to frame serve to Tmpgenc........

Tom Clary  2002-09-19 23:45:35 ( ID:valkzpz32yj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the advice. I think the AVI should be OK because I captured it directly from my digital camera via Firewire using the Ulead software. It plays back in Media Player OK as well though I didn't watch all 54 minutes of it! I will however see what Virtual Dub says about it. Maybe frame serving it will work better as well. My other thought is that there are some large file size issues here.

I did all this around 6 months ago to successfully creat a DVD but that was under Windows 98SE with the then current versions of the same programs.

Question - TE25 - Plus faster than standard? No.28260
Anon  2002-09-19 13:16:21 ( ID:ld4aaq7ibaw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is the "Plus" version of TMPGEnc faster at encoding than the standard free version?
What benefits are there to buying the "Plus?" (Nothing is listed in the FAQ).

Minion  2002-09-19 21:59:42 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The plus version has a better 2 pass encodeing method, and allows you to use Higher bitrates and the Mpeg2 doesn"t run out in 30 days..cuz after you have used the demo for a Month useing mpeg2 you can"t use it any more..Meaning you can not download the latest demo after your demo runs out..so after a month you basicly Have to buy it if you want to keep useing it for mpeg2 encodeing..

Anon  2002-09-20 13:33:36 ( ID:ld4aaq7ibaw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm only encoding with MPEG-1 anyway, so the time limit of MPEG-2 is of no concern to me. :) But if the encode speed is the same, then I guess the free version will suit me just fine (I don't use 2-pass encoding). Thanks for your reply!

Question - TE25 - Other ways to burn vcd/svcds No.28252
MannaZen1  Home )  2002-09-19 07:22:27 ( ID:bretwi1a3.g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

...also, Anybody know of a
other way to burn vcd's/ svcd's besides nero, aparently in nero, my minimum on my new burner is 8x (that sucks) / or wnybody know a way of tweaking the minimum burn rate to 4x or less?

Peace

Minion  2002-09-19 09:01:25 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sometimes the Burn speed depends on your CD-R"s, if you get really cheap CD-R s some of them have to be burned at 4 Times speed, and nero will let you burn at that speed...I don"t know why 8 times speed should make any differance compared to say 4 times speed, I burn all of mine at 8 speed, on My 24 speed Burner, usually if you keep it below half the top speed of your burner you should"s have any of those problems that come with burning to fast, and if you get High speed CD-R"s it seems you can burn on them faster, like the 32 times or 40 times ones...

Darren  Home )  2002-09-20 13:41:13 ( ID:nsbkh5almbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

snice you r on the subject or nero why does nero take fookin hours to encode a flim that runs 40 or 50mins and when you use tmpgenc it takes at least 1hour to 2hours my last encoding from nero took 64hours for a 55min part 1 of like mike why is this snice you all sound like brainy peeps :D

oh and i got nero with me cdr i never cracked it ;)

Minion  2002-09-20 21:17:16 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

WHY?? Because Nero sucks for encodeing and that is it...

bill256  2002-09-21 22:38:37 ( ID:yi6ijxq/tkf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You shouldn't be using Nero for your encoding, use TMPGenc or another program to get an MPG file that Nero will accept. i think Nero is a great Burning program, but when it comes to encoding, it's not so good.

Question - TE25 - Tmpgenc on new CPU No.28248
MannaZen1  Home )  2002-09-19 06:17:12 ( ID:bretwi1a3.g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just purchased a Dell 8200 and tired to open my .avi files, yet was unsuccessful. Tmpgenc is on a external hard drive, which i just transfered to my new CPU, but keep getting some sort of CODEC error, this happens when i try to open certain files in the VFAPI converter.

Are there certain codecs i need to install, or is there a certain formula, besides raising the direct show to 2, that can aid me in opening .avi files in tmpgenc/ vfapi (.tpr) successfuly?

Thanks

gbagman37  2002-09-19 07:01:31 ( ID:gfs3fzybyzl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

there are many different codecs that can be used for avi(Audio Video Interleave). Try DivX, it is the best and mosy widely used

MannaZen1  Home )  2002-09-19 07:23:07 ( ID:bretwi1a3.g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

thanks, ill give it a go

Minion  2002-09-19 08:55:12 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

And to use the "Vfapi Converter" you need to have the "Vfapi Codec" installed..

Question - TE25 - AVI to VCD Problem....please anyone help.... No.28243
EToN  2002-09-19 04:51:31 ( ID:7vq9avz476w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've got myself a AVI File. I am trying to convert it to a VCD to be able to watch it in my Home DVD player. I'm using TMPGEnc to convert the video and GoldWave to convert the audio. When I am done converting the movie it has a Ghosting/Cloning appearance (not sure of the proper term). What settings should I be using to make a WideScreen VCD. Here are the movie specs below:

Video Stream:
Frame Size, FPS 640x272,23.976fps
# of Frames (time): 105303 (1:13:12)
Decompressor: XviD MPEG-4 Codec
Number of Key Frames: 1205
Min/avg/max/total key frame size: 1901/18961/53249 (22314K)
Min/avg/max/total Delta Frame size: 96/4416/49890/ (448954K)

Audio Stream:
Sampling Rate: 48000Hz
Channels: 5 (Stereo)
Sample Precision: 0-bit
Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)
Preload Skew: 3584 samples (0.07s)
# of Frames: 68625
Min/avg/max/total frame size: 2325/3583/3584/ (240187K)

I got this info off of Virtual Dub....Any help would GREATLY be appreciated....
Thanks....Travis

gbagman37  2002-09-19 07:05:27 ( ID:gfs3fzybyzl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Alot of those setting are incorrect to make a VCD, it has to encoded to MPEG1 for starters. Use the template for VCD(either PAL or NTSC) in TMPEGnc, then you should not have to change any settings except to perfect your quality.

EToN  2002-09-19 13:32:22 ( ID:7vq9avz476w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been trying to use TMPGEnc to convert it to MPEG1. After it is done converting I even go back and watch the movie and it looks good. It is when I try to burn it everything goes wrong. I use Nero and I get an Error about the 640x272,29.976fps. I choose leave alone and continue anyway. But when the VCD is burnt I get ALOT of Horizontal Lines and the image looks to be tracing and ghosting itself. The Audio is fine though. Any suggestions......THX

Minion  2002-09-19 22:02:44 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can not make a VCD with 640 by 272 resolution, for that file you need to load the "VCD-NTSC Film" template.....

EToN  2002-09-20 04:46:49 ( ID:7vq9avz476w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I got a new problem now...I have burnt the Movie to a CD/RW and everything looks GREAT. About 20-25mins. into the movie I start seeing distortion and then the Disc Crashes. Is this still to do with the Encoding or am I just burning it wrong now....I get the hang of this someday...lol...(with your help)

Question - TE25 - Dissapearing audio in cutting tool No.28231
kcfreeloader  2002-09-19 03:40:51 ( ID:rqfgs9l/msl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Recently ive been trying to use the merge/cut mpeg tool on tmpeg. After i mark my in and out points make a file name (edit.vob or whatever) the audio always dissapears. If i run the clip there is no audio and demuxing shows no audio. What am i doing wrong? Ive come so far to be shut out now!!

Thanks!

kcfreeloader  2002-09-19 03:44:05 ( ID:rqfgs9l/msl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Oh by the way i checked my original vob and have even demuxed it, and it deffinatly has audio, so where is it going?

It's not a good Idea to Cut VOB-Files with TMPGEnc. It can't handle VOBs correctly.

so how would you recomend cutting the bits i want? I dont want to lose any picture quality.

B_Racer  2002-09-19 15:57:44 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What exactly do you want to do?
OK, demuxing Audio and Video, but why? And what do you want to produce?

kcfreeloader  2002-09-19 19:48:18 ( ID:rqfgs9l/msl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here is what im doing.

I bought a set top panasonic dvd recorder and i am transfering all my vhs tapes to dvd. when i record them the panasonic puts them in vob files. I then would like to use tmpge to edit the shows, i.e. cut off the end of the last show and the begining of the next show. then i can record everything back to sonic mydvd and record them to my pioneer dvdr. I really dont want to have to renencode everything if possible. I dont want to loose any more video quality. I also have Ulead media studio pro 6.5 which i can edit with but it always wants to renencode the file instead of just cut the begining and the end.

Any ideas?

ASHY  2002-09-19 22:25:15 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The reason you are losing audio is that the Merge/cut feature, stupidly enough, doesn't handle Ac3 audio yet the MPEGtools can multiplex and demultiplex it.
The Ac3 in the VOB will just be ignored and you end up with a soundless VOB. The only program that I know of that correctly cuts VOBs is DVD cutter.

It is only the audio which is causing you the problem. If you encode the audio to mp2 first then re-multiplex that back with the original VOB then you should be able to cut without a problem in TMPG.

kcfreeloader  2002-09-20 00:41:51 ( ID:r9v1pfy4ukf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What format should my audio be in before i remux it?

Minion  2002-09-20 07:34:00 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Mpeg tools will let you Multiplex and De-multiplex Mp2 audio and AC3 but it will only edit MP2..so if you really want to use Tmpgenc to edit your files you have to De-Mux the vob files then encode the AC3 audio to MP2, then mux them together then edit.....it seems like a Lot of trouble...

Question - TE25 - asf "cannot be opened, or unsupported" No.28229
yoshichu55  2002-09-19 02:31:52 ( ID:nkutuac2lil )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can somebody help with this? It says this every time i try to convert the file. I've also tried raising the direct show priority to and it didn't work. Can anyone help?

gbagman37  2002-09-19 07:11:08 ( ID:gfs3fzybyzl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try renaming the file extension to from asf to wmv. If you are using Virtual Dub you have to use the older vesion(1.3C). Convert it to avi, then use TMPEGnc to convert to MPEG
