Question - TE25 - Aspect settings doing nothing? No.20268
Politburo  2002-04-30 07:47:10 ( ID:timdfjjbdja )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm using a 480x480 source and trying to make a 480x480 output MPEG2. I have video settings to center at custom size 480x480, yet i'm still getting a 640x480 output, with an improper aspect ratio! What am I missing.....

Olli  2002-04-30 09:12:16 ( ID:k24fqlswccn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What have you got your source set to ?

ASHY  2002-04-30 10:08:02 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There are two ways to do this seeing as your output is the same as the source.
You need to set your source aspect ratio to '4:3 display' and your output ratio to '4:3 display'.
Set the Video arrange method to 'Full screen (keep aspect ratio)'

Or, and this is the method I would choose, select 1:1 for both the output and source aspect ratio.
Make sure the output frame size is 480x480 under the video tab in both cases.

ASHY  2002-04-30 14:38:46 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just a correction. I've got myself back to front.

I should have said the preferred method would be to set your source aspect ratio to '4:3 display' and your output ratio to '4:3 display'.
Make sure the output frame size is 480x480.
This will give you the correct ratio for your TV.

Politburo  2002-04-30 16:54:05 ( ID:hqwmcqxrv/m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have done this, or so I believe, and it still comes out as 640x480. Everything I can see is set as 480x480 4:3..

ASHY  2002-04-30 22:01:46 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is impossible for it to come out at that resolution if you set it at 480x480.
How are you verifying that the resolution is at 640x480?
Download this program and open your file and copy the statisics and paste them here. http://teco.emg.hu/bitratev/BV.EXE
Also set the file up as you would to encode it then copy and paste the info from TMPG that you can see at the bottom. For example:
MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps

ASHY

Politburo  2002-04-30 22:25:42 ( ID:hqwmcqxrv/m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using WMP to view resolutions..
Super Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-2 480x480 29.97fps CBR 635kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)
is the info line.. will d'l the BV.exe

kingsley  2002-05-01 15:28:02 ( ID:0dppykrwfmg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Politboro let us know how it works out.

Windows Media Player gives me a problem with retaining details about a file - when file is re-made the old details are still displayed. I don't think too highly of WMP. Don't know if this is your issue, but I have gotten good at cleaning the old info out of WMP memory :)

Question - TE25 - tmpgenc file size limit No.20265
Wanman  2002-04-30 05:27:14 ( ID:vndv.clka1. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there a limit to the file size that TMPGEnc can deal with? Because whenever I get to the 4GB size it stops encoding and will go no further. i have plenty of disc space, etc. etc.

ffast  2002-04-30 07:02:12 ( ID:rq73n1voqvj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You got to learn file size limitation of Windows, not TMPGEnc.

ASHY  2002-04-30 11:41:28 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your problem is the FAT32 file size limit.
If you need to create a file bigger than that you will need to format your drive using the NTFS file system in either NT Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Question - TE25 - Custom GOPs sequence possible? No.20262
KSmut  2002-04-30 03:12:12 ( ID:/i1ldoowiqj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is it possible to customize the GOPs in TMPGEnc? For example, I ripped a movie, and according the *.IDX file, the sequence is IPBBPBBPBBPBBPBB. Notice that the second frame listed is a Primary (P) frame, not a Secondary (B) frame! Is there a way in TMPGEnc to match that? Or am I stuck with the same old sequence of IBBPBBP... ?

TIA

ASHY  2002-04-30 11:19:00 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is possible, but I don't know if I would recommend it.
But give it a try with a small test file to see if it makes a difference.
Under the GOP structure tab tick the force picture type setting then click setting.
Click on the first picture then pres Ctrl+P. Paste in the GOP pattern from
the .IDX file then click OK then click ok again in the Force picture Type box.

ASHY

ASHY  2002-04-30 11:38:20 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Oh by the way a (P) frame is Predictive frame not a primary frame. It is predicted from the previous (I)Intra frame and a (B) Bi-directionally interpolated frame is predicted from the previous and next (I) or (P) frames.

Sounds good doesn't it, but don't ask me to explain GOPs. It's all in my head and I can just about understand it myself. GOPs and Matrixes are far to complicated to be played with so I leave well alone as the standard setting always seems to give the best picture quality.

Does anyone know how to get a VCD to work in XP. I used to be able to watch them with Power DVD or even Windows Media Player with Windows ME. The Mpeg file plays fine, but the final burned VCD does not play(of course it plays wonderful on my standalone DVD)

Metcalf  Home )  2002-04-30 07:43:20 ( ID:kfeb95qumw2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>Does anyone know how to get a VCD to work in XP. I used to be able to watch them with Power DVD or even Windows Media Player with Windows ME. The Mpeg file plays fine, but the final burned VCD does not play(of course it plays wonderful on my standalone DVD)

Try this:

Open DVD Player,

Switch to File Mode,

Click the Menu - It will cause DVD explorer to activate.

track your VCD and the movie path,

ADD to the list. Check at what serial/ sequence no. this movie is in your play list.

Close the DVD explorer by acknowledging OK button.

Now open the draw out number pad on the DVD player.

Click the serial/sequnce no. noted above

You may be lucky to have the movie playing on.

It works for me.

Good Luck

Question - TE25 - 16:9 mpg-file to VCD No.20252
Sly  2002-04-30 01:54:28 ( ID:karzabxqifn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to put an mpg-file that's in 16:9 on a VCD. Is it possible to do that, because I read somewhere that the mpg-file must be in 4:3?

Sincerely, Sly.

Minion  2002-04-30 04:42:01 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes you can make a vcd with 16:9 format, most widescreen movies are 16:9 and most dvd"s are widescreen.....

M.Bastian  2002-04-30 06:16:01 ( ID:lh1udvptj1c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you want to play the mpeg in an standalone player you should make an 4:3 mpeg with black borders. There is no standalone player I know of that will correctly play an 16:9 flagged VCD or SVCD stream. If you dont have an TV set that you can force to 16:9 output youre looking at the Coneheads version.

Look in Topic 5642 for settings how to convert 16:9 anamorphic input to 4:3 with borders.

ASHY  2002-04-30 11:44:50 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What's the size of your TV is it 16:9 or regular 4:3?

ASHY

Sly  2002-04-30 16:49:16 ( ID:karzabxqifn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My TV is 4:3.

ASHY  2002-04-30 22:13:18 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Under the advanced tab choose the source aspect ratio as 16:9 display and the Video arrange method as 'Full screen (keep aspect ratio)'
If encoding in MPEG1 then make sure your output aspect ratio is 4:3 PAL or NTSC depending on your TV system.
If encoding in MPEG2 choose you output as 4:3 display.

well if you cant see the pic, lemme briefly explain it.

there is no text. after I close the project window (it says thats what it is in the windows title bar)

I can see file/option/help with white behind only that, instead of the normal beige. And in the bottom text box it says "MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps" there is nothing else. I can't do anything since I can't see what the buttons are labeled to do.

Are we talking about after closing the wizard?
If so my suggestion is to download again from another source.
There seems to be some corrupt zip files of TMPG around the net.

No, I mean what the program loads it's like that. And I downloaded it from here. http://www.tmpgenc.net/files/TMPGEnc-2.53.35.130.zip I'd think it wouldnt be corrupt. But I'll go try somewhere else like you said.

spookmonkey  2002-04-30 01:17:38 ( ID:gzmd5sgq/yo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I keep forgetting to inclide a pw so I can just edit the messege but I also just noticed that everywhere else I've looked it doesn't list XP as a workable OS.

gbagman37  2002-04-30 02:17:00 ( ID:aks1ajzl/6r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have Xp. no problems with TMPEGEnc

just copy the addy I linked in the first post and paste it into a new window, you will see what I'm seeing when I load the prog.

justme  2002-04-30 05:17:56 ( ID:d.gjzvh.xq2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would download from another source and reload. works fine on my xp
most apps that say windows 2000 will work fine in XP

ASHY  2002-04-30 11:57:04 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This problem has been experienced by a few people, but doubt it has anything to do with XP as it works fine on my system.
Either download it from another source or just untick the box at the bottom left corner to disable the wizard.

ASHY  2002-04-30 12:01:44 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Another point is, if you use Winzip then try Winrar to unzip your program or the windows zip utility as there have been reports of winzip having problems unzipping the file correctly.

ASHY  2002-04-30 14:07:46 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What is the error? and how did you create this MPEG1 file?
You should have no problem opening MPEG1 files with TMPG as long as they have been created properly. I guess you have created it or edited it with some other 3rd party software along the line.
I have encountered this before and there is a way around your situation.
First of all try and run it through the simple multiplex option in MPEG tools.
If the file remultiplexes then try to load again into TMPG and it should work.
If it won't remultiplex in MPEGtools you have an incompliant MPEG1 file.

Try the above and if it doesn't work I will post the solution to your problem.

Rck60s  2002-05-01 23:39:04 ( ID:ottpma61s8h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I did not create the file...When I downloaded it from neo-modus it was in Mpeg-1 format.. and Pal...I was trying to convert it to MPEG2 so I could burn it to DVD...

Skabio  2002-04-29 23:18:30 ( ID:2ffdykbim6f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm having problems loading avi files to TMPG. When I load them there is no picture in the preview but it doesn't say it is not compliable. They all work on my windows media player but only a few will load in TMPG. Most of the files use the smr codec which I have installed and I have the latest directX. Thanks for any help

Gospel  2002-05-01 00:23:21 ( ID:a/39xujikqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Since nobody here seems to answer this simple question...I'll do it..(I just got this program 3 day ago!)

Go to OPTIONS -> Enviromental setting -> VFLAPI Plug-in...and then Right click on where it says "Direct show file reader" and it will give you an option to raise the preference of it.....I have it up to "3" and It displays the preview...and its the same thing with sound.

Your welcome.
