Question - TE25 - how can I get better quality No.19366
Wolly  2002-04-19 10:31:16 ( ID:s5lnpqn2f6k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I´m a beginner in working with TMPGEnc and I need help. I tried to convert an AVI-file to mpeg1. there was no problem. but the quality of the video is very bad (audio is ok).
I worked with the standard settings for VCD, but what settings can I also do to get better quality???

Techno  Home )  2002-04-19 11:48:42 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

VCD is not good quality.

another thing is to do this:

load the VCD template and don't encode. Load the unlock template then change the VBV buffer size to 224 and encode.

Also, try using "very high quality"

VCD will only be good if the source is good. :)

I hope it helps

VBV buffer size has absolutely nothing to do with image quality.
According to ISO/IEC 13818-2 the VBV buffer size is the hard limit of how much data is buffered bevore it goes to the decoder.
I dont have time to go in detail but ins very simple terms this means that if you choose the VBV size to low for the selected bitrate and GOP structure you will end up with an jerky movie in high bitrate scenes.

Regarding the original Question: Since I dont know how good or bad the quality of your avi file(s) is I just can give you the tip to play around with an typical scene(10 seconds or so)and see what improvements the filters give you.
Esp try under Advanced->Noise Reduction and Quantize Matrix -> Soften Block Noise.

For good info visit httpd://www.vcdhelp.com or just search with google.com. Search Terms like "Tmpgenc Noise filter" points to alot of good discussions and HowTo's

Question - TE25 - VCD with hi resolution contents ( not SVCD) No.19364
Park  2002-04-19 09:49:21 ( ID:7olrfeqpif2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Q.1

Is it possible to play in dvd player ( not support SVCD) ?

I made VCD format with movie with hi resolution than VCD Spec.
ex) Record CD with VCD format encoded MPEG-1 and resolution 480*480
or more higher resolution.

If not, let me know that why ?

Q.2

Can I play SVCD in VCD player ( DVD player not support SVCD) ? How ?

Techno  Home )  2002-04-19 11:47:01 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't know if this is any help,

Yes you can fool your dvd player to play SVCD's as VCD's. Goto the previous pages and there is a article on something like Play SVCD's on the dvd player by Dennis I think, I can't remember. Go check it out

Question - TE25 - TMPGEnc and MPEG-2 No.19362
quiles  2002-04-19 09:36:49 ( ID:fiucvjthav6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need help about Nero and VCD/SVCD:
I have burned VCDs with a LG writer, and I can see them perfectly in my player as VCD 2.0

However, at home, I burn with a Yamaha 2100E writer, and then my player recognizes yamaha burnings VCDs as 1.1
I have revised Nero version/options and they are the same (LG & Yamaha).

Furthermore, If I copy a VCD 2.0 (burned with LG) to other CD (burning with Yamaha) the final VCD is 1.1

Where is the problem?

Thank you in advance

Techno  Home )  2002-04-19 11:45:42 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To me, it has got nothing to do with TMPGENC (but this is my opinion).

TMPGENC only makes the VCD with the template you have choosen.

What version of TMPGENC are you running? Download the new version (v2.53 from this site or TMPGENC plus from www.pegasys-inc.com)

I am using TMPGenc for about two weeks now. After the starting problem where overcome it made some good movies without any problems. I installed some other programs and filters and have now the problem that the sound of the movie cuts of at about 32 minutes every time I encode a movie. Has anybody a clue what is going on and how can it be fixed.

Thanks Tom

Question - TE25 - After converting DVD-Rip to an VCDMpg the pictures lacks No.19351
Odity  Home )  2002-04-19 07:47:11 ( ID:kox8xd7xrxh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello, i got a little problem.
I Ripped a DVD with Smart Ripper and then use DVD2AVI to use TMPGENC to converting the Rip to a VCD. (As described in the VcdHELP.com)
The DVD shows me only 20 Frames, when i was using the DVD2AVI, but the sound afterall works fine.
The i used TMPGENC for Converting to a PAL VCD. After all finished, the sound is still ok, but the picture (u see it, when slow the camera moving slow over the Horizont) lacks a bit, and do this regularly like every second or every 2 seconds. I get no errosrs when TMPGENC is finished.
Is there a problem at the Framerate, or is there a possibility to use only 2 Frames on an VCD mpeg?

Thanks for your replys.
(a sad and don¡t know what to do) ODITY

Oh, sorry a mistake!
I want to use a VCD with 20 Frames, not with 2 Frames. ;)

Question - TE25 - The last step to encode my Divx file No.19349

ok i read your post that said never use tmpgenc to open vob. files ;
why???? it works great for the first one. seems like a small bug . i would much rather go strait to the vob then deal with dvd2avi and last time i used
tmpgenc it took the vfapi and worked fine. { 8 months ago ) but the new version wont take it for anything. says loading error. so thats why i tried the mpeg-2 plug in in the frist place. thanks...........

Techno  Home )  2002-04-19 08:49:08 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hmmm. OK, I understand.

It can also be for copyright reasons! :)

many people create a project in dvd2avi and then it loads in TMPGENC, as long as the plugin is installed.

Make sure that the plugin for dvd2avi is on a higher priority if it does not load the file in TMPGENC.

Make sure you use DVD2avi v1.76

I do not know what else to say! :)

Best of luck

Question - TE25 - Merge and Cut Problems No.19344
aplados  2002-04-19 05:22:55 ( ID:cpj4zzwj.qm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i have a movie file that that was created using smartripper, dvd2avi and tmpgenc. I'm trying to use merge and cut to spit the file into 2. I thought if i split it into 2 equal parts, that i could burn a cd for windows media player for my non-dvd friends and then use the latest nero to make my own dvd. However, the picture and sound are not in sync. They seem to be ok on my big movie mpg file that is uncut if i use windows media player as long as i don't try to fast forward or advance it any. When i go to merge and cut it says that "at address 74f91d04, read error occured against address 74f91d04" It still allows me to cut but after it is finished i open windows media player and immediately i can tell they are not in sync. I've read some posts here to lower or increase frame rate but have no idea what you are talking about. Could you clarify this so I can understand. And what about the read error? I don't know all the specifics but i used "forced film" in dvd2avi and used 23.976 mpeg 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is just a bug!

Techno  Home )  2002-04-19 14:13:17 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if the audio is faster than the video, make sure the audio is 44100Hz and if it still causing the problem, increase the video frame rate fro 23.xxx to the next frame rate (25fps) then 29.97 etc...
