Question - TE25 - How to set the valus to get the Best Best image quality? No.17257

I always convert DV avi files to VCD files, My TV system is PAL
how to set the valus to get the BEST BEST quality?

Olli  2002-03-25 10:54:38 ( ID:dazey0v8lbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It all depends on a number of things ...

BITRATE - you can up the bitrate to improve the quality - you will get less of a blocky effect. This means creating a non-standard VCD though (an XVCD) and your player may not be able to play it. Check out http://www.vcdhelp.com and look at the players list. Find your player and see what has worked for others

SOURCE - If your source quality is not too great you can use filters in TMPGenc such as the noise reduction filter. This will slow down encoding time though and don't forget that if the source is bad you can never improve it, only make it look a bit better

RESOLUTION - If you increase both res and bitrate you will get a nicer picture (sharper) but again your DVD player may only support up to a certain res/bitrate. Note that if you up the res it is essential to up the bitrate as well otherwise the stretched image will look worse (IMHO)

AUDIO - Try using some of the plugins like toolame encoder and ssrc (see vcdhelp tools section). Also you can drop the audio to 128KB to free up more bitrate for the video

ENCODING - I have found the 2 pass VBR at the High (slow) motion search to produce the best results. It takes longer but it is worth it

I generally only encode high resolution DIVX's so my source is mostly very good quality. The above may not apply to VHS source for example.

I hope this helps

Olli

as Olli already said: ... it all depends on a number of things

If your sorce is 'blocky' in fast moving scenes you can try around with 'soften block noise' under Setting -> Quantize Matrix. But this will make the movie look more blurry.

The best bet is to read through the various TMPgenc guides at www.vcdhelp.com to get an general idea and then experiment with 30 seconds of an typical scene of your movie changing one filter at a time until youre satisfied.

Techno  Home )  2002-03-25 17:18:44 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

soften black noise reduces the quality! it "blurs" the image if u like.

try resizing the image to a higher res, if u got good MPEG2 filters.

No, it does not make the blocks bigger, try it.

Many people seen my work and are VERY impressed that I proved many people wrong.

I will play the VCD mpg file on a VCD/DVD player NOT on PC
it can NOT recognize an UN_ordinary bitRate of MPG

M.Bastian  2002-03-26 06:40:26 ( ID:lh1udvptj1c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You actually can play around with the bitrate and most players will still play this stream. Reminds me I must try sometime soon if my player can cope with VCD VBR streams. :)

cheers

look at the manual that came with your dvd player(stand alone)and see if it say"s it supports vcd 2.0 .if it does you can up the bitrate on your vcd"s(mpeg1)sometimes up to 5000kbs and this is awesome picture quality, but you only get 15-10 min per cd,but at 2000kbs has produced some excelent results with 45 min per cd,but tmpgenc doesn"t have any templates for high bit rates for mpeg1,but I heard you can find some on the net....

M.Bastian  2002-03-26 10:06:28 ( ID:vljrcsq3gdr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can load an standard Template and unlock it with loading Template/Extra/unlock.mcf
Now you can edit the Bitrate Setting and save as a new Template.

load the VCD template and encode!

Then burn as VCD using Nero

Techno

Ashy  2002-03-25 16:28:17 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No DONT load the VCD template and encode.
It may be unecessary. Depending on some parameters of the file.
Is the file at a standard VCD resolution i.e 352x288 at 25 FPS for PAL or is it 352x240 at 29.97 for NTSC. If it is just run it through MPEG Tools in TMPG using the Simple multiplex option. Put the same file in both Video and Audio boxes and choose MPEG1 Video cd as the type. Then just burn in Nero using the Video cd option.
If it isn't at a standard resolution then I'm afraid you WILL have to encode the file again using one of the VCD templates.

Techno  Home )  2002-03-25 17:20:31 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why not load in the VCD temp? u just said in the last sentence to load it?

Ashy  2002-03-26 21:01:30 ( ID:swd//k5my9f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Read the Goddam post again Techno!
I made the point of loading the template in the last sentence only if the mpeg file didn't conform to VCD specifications. If it doesn't it needs re-encoding.

I will NOT e-mail you Techno. You seem like an egotistical punk KID who needs to get a life other than computers AND GROW UP! Just because you have experience does NOT mean you can treat others as though they know nothing, as I have seen repeatedly in the TWO times I've visited this site's boards. I request not to have any more of your "advice" and "wisdom". Go bother someone else.

To all those who refuted, thank you for your advice and support. :o) But I ask that if you can help me encode an mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 for VCD or SVCD at DVD quality, please e-mail me or contact me on AIM at tvgm18. It'd be wonderful to have one-on-one help rather than play tag on the message board. :o) (p.s. techno, this does NOT mean you) If you need me to, I will get ICQ as well, and I do have Yahoo messenger, too. I'd really appreciate your help and support. :o)

Judging from standard of VCD/SVCD/DVD, this question means nothing.

JohnDie  2002-03-24 21:03:59 ( ID:kr.prcqakoo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!

I'm using TMPGEnc to convert DVD -> SVCD. I currently use Azid to decode the AC3-sound to WAV and then TMPGEnc to convert this WAV and the Video to (S)VCD. But there is one problem: TMPGEnc does not allow to specify an audio delay when muxing the streams. It would be really great, if TMPGEnc would allow me to specify the audio delay reported by DVD2AVI oder SmartRipper when setting up the encode process. This would allow to prevent lip-synch-problems so that the resulting mpg-file is completely perfect after encoding and no additional demuxing and remuxing using another tool would be required.

I know there are other possibilities to do this (e.g. using DVD2AVI to decode the AC3 or using HeadAC3), but I think it would be the easiest way to let TMPGEnc handle this, as it is the program that multiplexes the streams.

In all other aspects, TMPGEnc is the best tool around!

Greetings,
JohnDie

JohnDie  2002-03-24 21:19:01 ( ID:kr.prcqakoo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Addition:

1.) Just found the "Audio Gap Correct" Setting under "Source Range"... So the main problem is solved! ;-) I think, I should open my eyes... *g*

2.) But it would be nice to allow synching when multiplexing, so that no additional tools are required to re-synch an already encoded movie.

the error apears when i press start to start to make super video(pal)

Ashy  2002-03-25 16:36:04 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MPEG2VCR does exactly what you described above.
It will allow you to adjust the audio delay when you multiplex the file to correct A/V sync probs.

Superv  2002-03-24 11:20:15 ( ID:mk8pw3dua56 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am having problems converting DivX avi to SVCD. I am using ver 2.53 trial.
The pictures fine but I get no audio. Even before you convert the file
the audio does not show up under the picture, yet the original will play fine on media player or PowerDVD. Do I need to put the codecs in the Tmpgenc dir?

Techno  Home )  2002-03-24 11:51:16 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

use virtual dub to decompress the audio of the avi file.

www.virtual.org

download it

open it

open the avi file

goto audio > full processing mode
goto audio > compression ? uncompressed PCM
goto video > direct stream copy
goto file > save wav

this should save the audio as an uncompressed wav. then load into TMPGENC along with the video and re-encode.

All should be well

Maybe your player does not support the brand of CD you are using.
Go to http://vcdhelp.com and look at the player section to see what brands work

I too burned many a disc that read "NO DISC" when I punched play. I resolved this by making sure the MPG was WHITE BOOK compliant. VCDEasy doesn't tell you if your MPG1 is WHITE BOOK compliant or not. Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum does with a big happy yellow check mark. Now they ALL play!

I never messed with MPG2 (480X480). Takes too long to convert and burn anyway and can only fit 35 minutes on a CDR.

VCDEasy is a nice burner but all the checkboxes are confusing and don't predict what you will get if you check one or not. A lot of us are newbies but having fun never the less.

Question - TE25 - Playback problems on DVD player for VCD No.17219
Obi Wan Celeri  Home )  2002-03-24 07:00:38 ( ID:pgbad3d/awk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there!

I made a VCD for a friend this week. He wanted to see a homemade flick (old school stuff) on his RCA RC5240P DVD player.

Now the resulting MPEG file works just GREAT on my PC but on the DVD player the video sometimes looses sync with the audio; when this happens the player plays the video too fast and the audio has a 1-2 second delay. This obviously turned the flick into a coaster :(

The sync problem is further aggravated by fast-forwarding the flick.

I used TMPG 2.53, my source is in DIVX3.11 in 23.976fps and I my audio is an uncompressed WAV file. The resulting MPEG-1 (NTSC-FILM 352x240) was written to VCD by Nero 5.5.6.4. All parameters are untouched in TMPEG.

Now I will try to deactivate "Detect Scene Change" but I'm wondering if this is going to help.

If anyone has any experience with this type of problem, I would appreciate your feedback :) My impression is that the RCA team implemented a very *strict* version of MPEG-1 into their decoder.

Olli  2002-03-24 19:02:47 ( ID:dazey0v8lbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try decompressing the audio first ... prior to encoding with TMPGenc.
You can do this with Virtual Dub (see tools section at http://vcdhelp.com)

or use avi2vcd decompress prog ...
