TMPGEnc is the closest tool I have found for what I need to do, but is still failing as I am trying to multiplex an .m2v video stream and a .DTS (or .VOB) audio stream.

Is there a way to get TMPGEnc to handle a DTS stream? If not is it expected in a future release?

I use TMPGEnc to create DVDs from ripped VOB files. Sometimes there are scenes I want to remove from the VOB file. I typically demux the video and audio track I want, if the track is AC3 I re-encode to a wav or layer II format. I then mux them together into a mpg file. This mpg file I edit in the merge & cut tool. I have great success with this.

However there are some movies (VOB files) I want to preserve the AC3 6 channel audio track of. I don't want to re-encode it to another format (ie; wav or layer II).

Problem:
Even though the merge & cut tool will recognize the VOB file and allow me to set edit marker points, it ignores the AC3 audio track when it outputs the resulting MPG file. It clearly only cuts and merges the video track and completely ignores the AC3 track.

Question:
How can I edit MPG files that contain a AC3 6 channel audio track without re-encoding. I want to preserve the quality of both the audio and video track.

The only way I know how is to use this program :

It will allow you to cut a VOB file at any point you wish preserving both the video and audio stream.
The way to do it is to find the points where you wish to cut in minutes and seconds then use the above program to cut at exactly those points.
Note: only use whole minutes and seconds when cutting because if you use decimated seconds such as 25.5 secs for example then it will cause the program to cut at the wrong place.

TMPG does multiplex AC3 and M2v files as long as the ac3 is a valid file. It must be correctly extracted from the vobs first.

AC3 is DD5.1 is it not?

I actually need to re-multiplex a DTS stream into a M2V as I need to separate streams out from the VOB (only need 2 of 7 streams) and change the bitrate of the video stream......alas both solutions above won't work for me.

I just burnt my first vcd and it took 32 hours to decode. Is this normal or do I need to adjust some settings?

It seems it had 4 processes to do. I chopped the movie in half to fit on two disks (It came out to be like 1.3 gigs). It decodes the first half (12 hours) then the second half (12 hours), then it does the first half again (4 hours) and the second half again (4 hours). I still only end up with 2 files, one for each half. I've explored all of the settings and I just cant figure out what I might be doing wrong. I read about people encoding an entire movie in like 6 hours.....any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

try to use motion search estimate (fast)

use less of the filters if possible.

If you want to encode to VCD hust use one of the templates. It seems to me you are using 2pass encoding.

Thanks, I don't know how I was using 2 pass...I tried using the template and shabamm....It works now...now it will take 3.5 hours per half of the movie and it only does 1 sequence per half, so once again, THANK YOU!

1) The 2 pass method......That will probably greatly increase the quality of the vcd, correct?

2)Whats the quality difference between (fast) and (very fast)?

Usually the faster encoding method you use the lower quality the picture is. Also the file size will be different due to the fact that the slower method you use the better the bitrate is allocated.
Basically slower gives a smaller file size with slightly better quality and very fast will give you largest file size and slightly lower quality.
My advice would be to stick with the default and use Normal as your setting as this will give the best size to speed ratio.

how do I add subtitles to vcd/svcd..?
do they even support it or is it just dvd thing?

I don't think u can add subtitles in TMPGENC.

There maybe 3rd part software.

You need virtual dub with vobsub plugin. this proggy runs along side tmpg whilst encoding and adds the subtitles. It's also freeware as well :-)

When I try to load an SVCD using the wizard I get an error message cannot load or unsupported

is it possible to encode faster?
say i download oceans eleven cd1 avi then put it through this program to transfer it to mpeg1 for a vcd. It is taking 4 hours for 50mins of film.
Is this normal?

Yes, it is normal. The faster your system, the faster the encoding, usually, will be. It also depends if u have used any filters, this will take a while longer

I was trying to open a file to encode, even the sample file, but I get a Windows memory "read" error and the program closes out. Any suggestions?

Well, i want to encode a movie but i always get after few minutes a message that aborts the encoding telling me about something related to the floating point. The problem is that i have encode other file and it works but only this one is giving me trouble, does it related to VFAPI or something like that because the file is perfect and i have use it before to create a vcd but i want to improve it. What is causing this error message.

Basically, uncheck/check all the boxes in the quantize matrix settings.

You cannot uncheck all the boxes. The one for decimal calculation is always on. I am having the same problem by the way/

I've been having this problem since I installed the QTReader.vfp file. If I delete it, everything works fine.

I also was haveing the Floatin decimal point error encoding divx movies..I tried everything..Tried Unchecking boxes and checking boxes,Removing quick time files and also ran it through Virtual Dub framescan..Nothing works!!! The newest version of TMPGenc sux!!!..I finally got online last night and searched and downloaded the older beta version TMPGenc 12j...And all problems were solved..Good Luck..and if you find a fix for the newest version please post it!!

I tried Olli's method and it worked. Downgrading to a previous version of TMPGenc did not. 8 hours later, and I think this video is finally going to be on a CD.

file to VCD format (video @ 352x288, PAL, 25fps, 1150 kbps, audio @ 44100

Hz/sec , 2240 kbps, Stereo)using Tmpgenc 2.0 . The converted files plays very

well in Windows media player with audio. But when I Try to burn the converted

file using Nero 5.5 it gives it is unsupported format ( i.e it says the audio

stream is 2 channel instead of stereo), when the VCD is burned switching off

the standart vcd format in Nero. The Resultant VCD has no audio.

Please help ? what happened to the audio , Is any settings wrong, If so provide

the correct settings

Thanky Mr Techno. You are correct , but instead of that I used Tmpgenc 2.5 the latest one , using wizard vcd(pal) the problem got corrected. Any way thankyou for your response !!!!!!!!

Ok here's my problem: I've installed WinDVD and Nimo Codec Pack 4.4.
In WinDVD i am able to view MPG2 files. But Windows Media Player and
TMPGEnc won't recognize them. In WMP the following error occurs:
"Class isn't registered"
I tried many different mpeg2 codecs and dvd players... always the
same problems.
There's only one Codec that works: Elecard Mpeg2 Codec.
But i don't want the Elecard symbol in the upper right corner of
my movies. A big Thank goes to Techno. He tried to help me but without
success. Perhaps anyone else can help me ?

Did you remove the Elecard crap before you tried to install the other codecs.
If you don't remove the Elecard codec first the others won't register.
Remove any other MPEG2 codecs first too (there is usually an Unregister.bat file with the codec you installed). Also uninstall any software DVD players you have installed then reboot your machine and re-install WINDVD.
This should allow you too open Mpeg2 files in media player.
If you need an MPEG2 codec for TMPG then go here:

Just extract the files and place them in your TMPGenc folder.

What to do is to make sure that the DVDaudio.ax and DVDVideo.ex are registered in the registry, if not, email me so I can make a program which will do it for you.

If those filters you mention are the FreeDVD filters then these filters will not work for SVCD MPEG2.
These filters are for decoding Mpeg2 and AC3 encrypted video and audio only.
Stinkys Mpeg2 codec will work but wont give correct aspect ratio in windows media player.
In anycase why the need to play MPEG2 through media player when you have WinDVD?

I am trying to encode a Quicktime .mov file into VCD format, but it freezes up at 6% each time i do it. The file that is made plays the first 6% fine, but i am wondering how to get it to finish the entire video. I am wondering if it is a problem with my VFAPI plugin, if i should get a better one, or what. I have tried two plugins, both giving the exact same result, but they might be the same file with different names. Please help!

that is the one i was using, QTReader.vfp, and i also tried another one i found on a french website called qt.vfp. Both gave the same result.

Win 98 on PIII 866 with 128 megs of RAM, all other encoding works fine.

I have the same problem...but only when using Very High Quality. I would also like to know why this is happening.
