Question - TE25 - Need to "flip" the picture, help plz No.23870
Silver  2002-06-24 15:34:14 ( ID:5iq10kudfxm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hataian  2002-06-24 19:58:42 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Load the film into Virtualdub, apply the vertical flip filter,
start the frameserver and open the frameserver file in Tmpgenc.

Question - TE25 - Interlaced or deinterlaced No.23868
Studio User  2002-06-24 15:33:25 ( ID:q.2vxyobb.n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

AVI to MPEG2 (SVCD) TV useage PAL.

When I read some sites about converting AVI into MPEG2 (SVCD) I see something about de(non) interlaced and interlaced.

Do I use the option/filter deinterlaced or is this not neccesary for TV use.

I have seen some forum post on www that it can be that the quality drops for TV usage with deinterlaced filter on.

Who knows the right answer.

Hataian  2002-06-24 20:00:23 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Generally speaking, you shouldn't deinterlace if you plan to watch it
on TV because interlacing won't degrade the visual quality on TV
and not to deinterlace it preserves the material most which is desirable.

Question - TE25 - Audio No.23866

Question - TE25 - Error illegal floating decimal point No.23863
ACM0045  2002-06-24 14:40:23 ( ID:o8jwlwyirwj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Some time when I try to convert an .avi file to .mpg it say "Error illegal floating decimal point" and it halts my conversion to the point that I would only be able to get part of the job done. How would I fix that?

Hataian  2002-06-24 20:02:28 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try uninstalling all programs you use and installing them again and
check your settings. If the avi file is a DVD rip or something like that,
try to create the avi file again and use it then.

Minion  2002-06-25 01:36:45 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That error is usually caused by corrupted frames in your avi file, to get rid of the error go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "cpu" and un-check the "SSE and SSE-2" boxes, then go to "settings" to "quantize matrix" and un-check the "use floating point dts" box this will get rid of the error but this error can also happen if you do anything with your computer while encodeing accept encode.....

Question - TE25 - SVCD quality No.23846
sjhc1177  2002-06-24 12:48:08 ( ID:r.o1gyof2bc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is a DivX movie converted into a SVCD the best quality that can be made other than a DVD. How much quality is lost in the conversion.

Minion  2002-06-24 21:34:23 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The best Quality besides DVD is probably mini dvd or xsvcd, mini dvd is a little more complicated than xsvcd so that is what I do, it is basicly a dvd on a cd-r accept for the fancy stuff......

sjhc  2002-06-24 21:55:36 ( ID:pktzxmbypja )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>The best Quality besides DVD is probably mini dvd or xsvcd, mini dvd is a little more complicated than xsvcd so that is what I do, it is basicly a dvd on a cd-r accept for the fancy stuff......

How do I make a xvcd? I want the best quailty I can get other than buying a dvd burner.

Thanks

Minion  2002-06-24 23:59:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well a xsvcd is basicly a mpeg2 file burned on a cd-r with svcd headers that isn"t a svcd, to make one it is up to you there aren"t any specific settings cuz it is a non-format, it can be what ever you want it to be,bepending on the source file. The ones I do are from dvd rips and they look pretty much just like the original dvd but I only get about 30-40 minutes per 80min 700mb cd-r, and not all dvd players will play them, the ones I do have a resolution of "704 by 480" and an average bitrate of about 3000kbs and a max of 8000kbs, but I don"t use "tmpgenc" to encode them cuz it takes to long on my system but tmpgenc is just as capible of doing them.I"m not going to write out a 5 page manual for you cuz there are other manuals out there. Go to "vcdhelp.com" and look for a manual on xsvcd"s, every one has there own system for makeing them but they are basicly a regular svcd with higher resolutions(or lower if you want)and higher(or lower)bitrates....

sjhc1177  2002-06-25 00:24:19 ( ID:r.o1gyof2bc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks I'll give that a try.

sjhc1177  2002-06-25 00:33:04 ( ID:r.o1gyof2bc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Acording to VCDhelp it looks like I dont even use VCDEasy I just use TMPGenc and then Nero. Is that correct. If I understand I make the Mpg and drag it into Nero selecting SVCD and that makes a xSVCD?

Minion  2002-06-25 02:02:20 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You do not need vcd easy, you just encode to mpeg with the xsvcd settings then drag into nero in svcd mode then nero will give you an error about the resolution being wrong then you just burn it anyway and that is it ...

sjhc1177  2002-06-25 02:23:17 ( ID:r.o1gyof2bc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I cant see a way to encode with a xsvcd setting under Tmpgenc should I be using something elese. And again thanks for your help.

Steven

sjhc1177  2002-06-25 02:26:30 ( ID:r.o1gyof2bc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The quality I get is only 1500 is that good, or should I be changing something.

Minion  2002-06-25 03:28:31 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Like I said before xsvcd is a non-standard so there are NO settings for xsvcd you have to make them your self, there is no xsvcd template in tmpgenc you have to make one your self, cuz xsvcd is a NON-STANDARD so there are to specific xsvcd settings so do the settings your self.....

Minion  2002-06-25 03:31:22 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OHHH, and 1500kbs is not nearly enough for a good quality xsvcd, the way you unlock the settings is to load the "unlock.mfc" template in the EXTRA folder then you will be able to change every setting to what ever you want.....

sjhc1177  2002-06-25 03:56:49 ( ID:r.o1gyof2bc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I change the bitrate above 1500 it wont fit on a CD. I figure most movies should fit on 2 cd's right? My movies start at 2500 but I have to roll them back to get them to fit on a cd (SVCD). I read that I should change the rate mode control from "cbr" to "2pass VBR", motion search to "High", NTSC to "704x480" and aspect to "full screen".

Should I change anything else or are these wrong. My videos are like VHS quality.

Minion  2002-06-25 04:28:45 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Mine barely fit on 3 cd"s but you said you wanted the best quality, and the higher the bitrate the better the quality,I told you that you will only get 30 to 40 minutes on a cd-r and I never said to use CBR either, use the CQ, the 2 pass method will take 3 times as long to encode and it isn"t noticeably better than CQ,You should read what I wrote in my posts so I don"t have to repeat myself, but to each his own I guess you have to find out what is best for you......good luck

sjhc  2002-06-25 17:30:52 ( ID:pktzxmbypja )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If I use "CQ" I no longer can change the file size. Is that ok?

Steven

Question - TE25 - Out of Sync with VHS Captures No.23840
Tim Cobley  2002-06-24 11:12:34 ( ID:vd4a/gcxlf6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpg enc vresion 2.2.31.119

Problem....when I encode the captured raw video using the Tmpg enc to make it in to a VCD or SVCD, the lip sync is all out...the audio is 1.5 seconds ahead of the video!!! This only happens when capturing form a VHS. When I capture directly from the TV card (connected to the outside world - not from the VHS), this problem does not occur.

Can you offer any guidance...why is this happening? I want to back up and transfer my VHS videos to VCD or SVCD....I cannot do it with this problem..

Equipment Used:

AMD Duron 950 Mhz
768Meg Ram
20Ghz hard drive
Hauppage Win TV card
Matsui VHS recorder connected to

Hataian  2002-06-24 11:20:52 ( ID:ceso8j9ek8a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is the sound also out of sync in the original avi file after capturing from
tape and before encoding?

Tim Cobley  2002-06-24 11:28:49 ( ID:vd4a/gcxlf6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

no - the raw avi is fine - it does not go out of sync until it is encoded. But as I said, the problem is only with vhs capture, not with direct capture from TV card real time.

strange

Minion  2002-06-24 11:30:44 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If it simply is a case of the audio starting before or after the video you can fix it by multiplexing the streams together with "bbmpeg ,mpeg2vcr or m2-edit pro" they have a function that will let you off set the audio to match your video with there multiplexor. This problem happens sometimes with captures cuz the audio starts recording a second after the video starts recording. But if it is a de-sync cause by dropping of frames then it is more complicated to fix..

Tim Cobley  2002-06-24 11:43:44 ( ID:vd4a/gcxlf6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I do not think it is frame dropping because the problem is consistently the same each time, whereas frame dropping is inconsistent. I have downloaded an evaluation version of MP2VCR - would I use this in place of the entire TMPGENC package?

thanks
tc

Minion  2002-06-24 21:31:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I wouldn"t use "mpeg2vcr" for encodeing, the quality is pretty bad and it takes forever but the multiplexor is a handy tool accept it seems to put a lot of padding on the file ....

Question - TE25 - TMPGenc will sometimes read AC3 and Sometimes Not No.23836
Flaystus  2002-06-24 08:57:56 ( ID:ydl3h9zwif2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Anyone have a clue why this happens? It can even be the same exact file.. if I try to demux it will always see the stream itself, but sometimes it sees its ac3 and sometimes it just sees as an unlabeled stream... very strange. I can find no reason for this.

Minion  2002-06-24 11:24:34 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That is totally wierd that "tmpgenc" even sees the ac3 stream at all cuz tmpgenc is not capible of reading ac3 audio streams,it wont encode them and it wont multiplex them, I don"t know about de-multiplexing them cuz I have never tried but I know it wont work with encodeing them or multiplexing them.If you want a program that will mux and demux ac3 audio try a program called "xmuxer" you can get it for free at "www.elecard.com"

Minion  2002-06-24 22:26:43 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just read in the "tmpgenc" help file and it says that ac3 streams are supported in the multiplexor, so I have to correct myself but for some reason I allways have problems muxing ac3 streams, but I guess It could be something wrong with my configuration......

Flaystus  2002-06-25 06:38:44 ( ID:ydl3h9zwif2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yeah kinda a strange way to support it, but no biggie, the program you pointed me to does a great job. Thanks for all the help, I've found solutions to my few problems as have with this great program, and perhaps several creative work arounds also. Once again thanks.

Question - TE25 - video cuts out 1/2 way through mpeg-2 No.23830
fisheez  2002-06-24 07:51:45 ( ID:wvt/qewffuh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hm. I've worked around the Studio7 problems by re-encoding (using studio7) the original capture with huffyuv and then encoding with TMPGEnc. Turned out beautifully - until halfway through and then there's no more video - only audio.

I'm sure this is something dumb that I've gone and screwed up but if anyone has any ideas on what it might be it would save me a LOT of time messing with things.

Hataian  2002-06-24 11:19:12 ( ID:ceso8j9ek8a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Be sure that you didn't accidentally set some source/clipping range boundary.

i just made sure of all of that and am re-encoding now. hopefully all goes well. wouldn't setting the source range incorrectly have 86'd the audio too, though?

Okay, update to this problem: when scrolling through the source range filter, the video freezes at the same spot. However, audio continues just fine.

Freezing / loss of video happens at frame 4970.

Question - TE25 - Resize MPEG looses sound No.23827
Stuart  2002-06-24 05:38:32 ( ID:p.v/n0ize2h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to resize an mpg movie gtom an enhanced CD to the VCD standard size. The movie size converts ok, but I get no sound.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Minion  2002-06-24 08:50:59 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc has trouble sometimes encodeing compressed audio sources and the audio from the original mpeg is probably compressed, demultiplex the original mpeg and either use that audio to multiplex with your resized re-encoded mpeg or convert it to a wav file and use that as your audio source..

Stuart  2002-06-25 14:25:19 ( ID:2thlhlrhy3a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks I'll try that, but what to I use to De-multiplex?

Question - TE25 - CATASTROPHIC NON-STOP ERRORS No.23820
xed  2002-06-24 04:31:40 ( ID:87sew/.hqy6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Nothing I can do will get TMPGENC 2.55 to work on my system.
In response to the constant non-stop error "can't load
p3package.dll" I have copied the file p3packag.dll into
my SYSTEM and SYSTEM32 subdirectories to no avail. Nothing
changes -- still "can't load p3packag.dll"
I have also tried changing the PATH command in my
autoexec.bat to PATH=C:progra~1TMPGENCp3packag.dll
Nothing changes -- still "can't load p3packag.dll."

Here is my system hardware and software:

Pentium III 450 main 13 gig IDE drive with 6 gigs free,
seconday IDE 8 gig drive with 8 gigs free. (The computer
is a Tiger Direct unit, don't know the precise BIOS
revision and motherboard rev.)
128 megs RAM
Windows 98SE
Pyro Firewire card, Creative SoundBlaster Live! sound
card, plain vanilla video card.
AVI input via Digital 8 camcorder using Ulead MediaStudio
Pro.

Windows media player DOES run on my system and IS able
to play back MPEG-1 files properly.
I am also running Uleahd MediaStudio Pro VE and it is
also able to edit and play back .AVI files properly.
So there is presumably no problem with Direct X on
my system.

Various people have called me a dolt and a fool and an
idiot. I have been using computers for more than 20
years, since the original Altair 8000, so it is unlikely
that I am really as stupid and as inept as various
on-line creeps have implied when they refused to give
me a useful answer to the question "How do I get TMPGENC to
run?"

No one has yet succeeded in explaining how I can get
TMPGENC to run. I have tried everything everyone has
suggested to no avail, and now I have run out of options.
Any suggestions which do not involve gratuitous
insults?

ffast  2002-06-24 05:21:05 ( ID:rq73n1voqvj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I can think of 2 problems on your case.

1. Downloading / Unzip problem
Make sure you download it correctly, and unzip it correctly.
I recommend you to use latest version of Unzip software.

2. Your attitude problem.
Your attitude is obviously against "Term of Use" of this BBS.

Minion  2002-06-24 08:46:36 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Go to "options" to "enviromental settings" then to "cpu" and un-check all the boxes in tab eg: SSE,MMX ECT....This WILL WORK..I just deleted my p3p package.dll file to recreate the error and my solution worked..luckily I have a p3p package from a different version.....

willyiam  2002-06-24 10:48:08 ( ID:nsbkh5almbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

xed.

The answer to your problems is simple.

Your machine does not meet MINIMUM Requirements to run TMPGEnc.

willyiam  2002-06-24 12:01:02 ( ID:nsbkh5almbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yeah right. And I use a 286 with Windows 3.1 with no problems.

Come to the point, Hardcore. What exactly are your intentions as regards to offering advice to those who seek it, or are you content to sit on the fence and throw in the one liner snide remarks without offering explanations?

ASHY  2002-06-24 19:44:20 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just tried Minions solution and it DOES work. Albeit it takes longer to encode.
Now either there is a problem with your downloaded version of TMPG. Maybe try downloading a different version or there is something on your system interfering with TMPG's operation.

I have seen instances on this board of other editing programs causing problems with TMPG and if I recollect correctly Ulead MediaStudio is one of them.
Before you say that it's unlikely that other programs affect TMPG, I can tell you from my own experience that I installed DVMPEG 6 on my system and after that TMPG wouldn't work correctly, when I unistalled it again TMPG worked correctly.

If I was you I would uninstall all other editing programs from my system and completely delete TMPG then download a new copy and try again.
If all else fails it is probably a clean install of your system you need.

ASHY

This may or may not help. However, the PATH variable is for directories and not specific filenames. So remove p3packag.dll from it so that it looks more like PATH=C:progam~1TMPGENC

Question - TE25 - Big Question. No.23818
User  2002-06-24 04:03:25 ( ID:xaagdma.afc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I use the KVCDx2 CQ-(NTSC)-1CD Template to make my avi's into mpgs. Supposedly, you are able to fit a maximum of 120 minutes of movie time onto one CD using this template, however, the file turns out to be a file that Nero cannot burn properly into a VCD because it is over 80 minutes, and I have a 700MB, 80 min. CD. So I chose Ulead DVD Movie Factory, which is better. But now I have to encode the movie twice (TMPGEnc first, then Ulead). The problem now is that after Ulead re-encodes the mpg and the file size ends up being 875MB and it won't burn correctly and the last minutes of the movie is missing. I recently burned a movie (86 min., 665 MBs) using Ulead, and I had to split it up into 2 CDs (using TMPGEnc Merge and Cut), even though I used the 1-CD template from TMPGEnc because Ulead adds the 200MBs that it usually does when the whole movie is in one piece. This time, when I split my file it was 335MBs and Ulead added 100MBs to each half when I had to make the movie. So I was able to burn it onto 2 CDs, but I'd rather burn a full movie onto 1 CD. In fact, please let me give my procedure I use for when I try to burn the whole movie without splitting it up, just so anyone out there can help me with a shorter and better way, please.
1. Use Virtual Dub to extract the audio. I choose Full Processing Mode. Convert the audio to 44100Hz, maybe 16-bit and click on High Quality. Next, select No Compression. Save Wav and choose a name. This whole process takes about 5 minutes.
2. Next I go to TMPGEnc and choose "KVCDx2-CQ-(NTSCFilm)-1CD" because my movies are 23.976 fps with a 704x480 resolution. I load the avi file and the uncompressed audio file (because TMPGEnc does not accept compressed mp3 audio). I make the appropriate adjustments like clipping the frame to clip black borders, also Full Screen (keep aspect ratio), etc. I also go to Other Settings and choose "Constant Bitrate (CBR)" so that I can adjust the bitrate to where the end file will be less than 700MBs. I choose "CD-R 700MB (ISO)" in Unknown Media. I adjust the file to where it is less than 100% of the disk space. I encode it into an mpg. This takes anywhere from 2 and a half hours to 4 hours.
3. Next, I have to go to Ulead DVD Movie Factory and load this new mpg into the directory and hit "Make Movie" and choose "VCD: 352x240 (NTSC)" and it goes through the whole movie and encodes the rest. Next it goes to a window where it gives the end result report and I notice that the end file is almost 900MBs! From 685MBs to 900?! I now have to go to TMPGEnc and load the original mpg that TMPGEnc created and split it into 2 files and go back to Ulead and re-encode it by each half. This time it adds 100MBs to each half (total of 200MBs) Why am I having so much trouble? Does anyone know a better way to fix these darn problems? Please feel free to email me at guitarologist@hotmail.com if you cannot respond to this here. Please title your subject "VCD help" that way I don't accidentally delete it while skimming through my Junk Mail folder, because that is where your email will likely end up. You may ask why I just don't encode it first using Ulead, but the answer to that is that I make slight adjustments like clipping borders and slightly making the audio better. But nothing major enough to where it will be over 700 MBs. Thank you so much for listening.
