SpursEngine focuses on speed rather than quality and its built-in encoder is not as good as TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress' encoder. I'm guessing test 2 took longer as well?
If you want maximum quality, don't use SpursEngine. Use the BluRay output profile as you did in test 2 and choose 2-pass encoding, VBR.
If you really want to use SpursEngine, there aren't that many things you can do. You can try changing the DC component precision to 10 bit, and you can try decreasing the GOP maximum frames number under the Advanced tab, and I think that's about it. Bitrate is at the maximum by default I believe. You can also try constant bitrate, but that will make your output file huge.
I cann't get a DL burn that works. I have tried many times burning a DL+R disk and they all have problems at some point playing on my DVD Player. The last one I did started having playing problems at about the 1 hour mark. Seems like it have something to do with being DL. I have never had a bad burn of a single layer disk. I am using DVD Author 1.6. I am using TDK DVD+R DL media. Any idea's?
I'm currently using Memorex +R DL disks, and not having any real problems with them. I have to use a DVD player that specifically supports +R (not all the off-the-shelf models do).
Since all off-the-shelf DVD players support -R DL, that's what I used to use. THOSE were the ones that were giving me the same problem that you're encountering. My drive specifies that it supports everything, minus and plus, single- and dual-layer, but DVD Author's DVD writer never seemed to like DL -R disks. Dunno why.
I also found years ago that burning at the maximum speed the software claims my hardware will support ALWAYS results in a bad disks (problems much like you describe). DVD Author claims it'll write at 16x? I jack it down to 12x. Haven't had a disk burn bad since. Try that.
I want to make flash h.264 video files with xpress 4.
The source is okay. Because there isn't really a flash output, i choose mov as the one. I kwown that it works with my Mac Compressor (FCP) and if I change this extension to flv, it works perfectly.
But with these xpress 4 ...this trick don't work! So? Is there a difference h264 codec voor windows and Mac? Because the flv don't accept the video.
TMPGenc, I would be nice if you soon arrange a Flash f4v format output settings!
When I add (2) subtitles to a clip,
TMPGEnc automatically creates a subtitles/audio-page ('setup') with subtitle-selection menu-items and with an audio menu-item.
Can anyone please explain to me how I can delete the audio menu-item from that subtitles/audio-page?
( I don't want to bother the user with audio options, because there are no audio options )
TMPEGEnc 4.0 Express suddenly stopped during encoding MS DV AVI --> MPEG2 DVD
I produced about 13 files (13 Chapters for DVD) and encoding it 4.0.
Most of them encoded well but 2 files suddenly stopped about 48-49% point (in 2 pass encoding mode)
I tried again but the result was same.
YOu know 48~49% point in 2 pass encoding mode is the end of analysing process.
I'm using the spurs engine plug-in with tmpgenc4 to convert some large 1080p file to 720p H.264/AVC, but the speed is not was i think it should be. Its taking 2 hours and 20 minutes to convert a 1080p movie to 720p H.264/AVC, does that seem right ?? Also while its converting the cpu usage is 100% and my cpu is getting to the +52 degrees.... i thought this would take the load of the cpu and just use the cpu to do the audio part and encoding to 2 channel stereo aac wouldn't require 100% i wouldn't think. I'm using the firecoder blu card (for the spurs engine) and my system is win XP, amd X2 64000+, 2 gig ram. Is there a way i can check to see if all cores of the firecoder is being used and how do i check the temp of the firecoder card ?? it doesnt show up in speedfan.
Looking at the number of frames you have and your framerate, it looks like that's a 2 hour movie, which means you're not too far from a 1:1 encoding time. For HD video, that's really good.
As a comparison, I just converted a 12 second, 24fps 1080p QT video to DivX. It took 3 minutes, 31 seconds. Imagine if it were a 1 hour video; it would have taken me 17.5 hours at that rate!
I have a Q9300, 6GB ram, $1000 desktop, I'm compressing 640x480 MPEG 2 (9MBPS) to mpeg 4 500kbps same resolution.
I just got the winfast pcx1100 and spursengine plugin, it can compress a 30" video in about 7 minutes but it only took 10-11 minutes before, so only a 50% speed improvement, not 200% like the demos???
Also, I can't seem to find any way to get the resolution right - it puts these 5px black bars on the top and bottom that I had been dealing with before by making it 640x470 in the output.
As a side note - I could not plug in the power connector because the cable didn't reach, would this slow it down???
THanks!
Use the picture resize filter and set it to "Centered (custom)", 640x480. Then do as you've been doing and set the output size as 640x480, 1:1 pixel. Check the preview to make sure there's no black bars.
I don't have the winfast card, but if there's a power connector that should be connected, then that could be slowing it down. It may just be to power the fan, and if the fan isn't on, then the spursengine processor might be getting too hot.
I really like this program because of it's quality and simplicity, but it's a real pain not having ac-3 5.1 support. After so many requests by so many people, you should have already implemented this feature.
The other request I have is the MKV file output ability. I know,it's a rouge file format, but no harm would be done by adding it while there is such a huge public support behind it.
I don't know why tmpgenc authoring works doesn't have an option for making a blu-ray with h.264. The only available format is mpeg-2. I hope that you are working on it; if not, then you are getting late.
In my opinion, the German translation of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 is not very successful. It would be nice if you could improve on that in the future or at least allow the user to activate the English version with the serial number he bought.
I have been searching for som4e time but found no answer:
Is TAW4 able to force subtitles - maybe in dependency to selected audio?
I have a movie in german language "filled up" with some deleted and never shown scenes in english. I want to show german subtitles on (only) these scenes automatically, regardless whether the user had selected subtitles or not.
At first I thought it wasn't possible to force subs, but I just found that it is indeed possible. You can force subs only per track and not per clip.
To do it, go to the Source stage and click on the "Settings" button for the track you'd like to force subs on. In the track settings window, for "Default subtitles stream", just select which sub stream you'd like to force.
Verify by going to the Simulation stage or using the track preview button.
