does anyone know how to get an SVCD.mpg to be supported in TMPEG? i keep getting the unsupported file type error with SVCD files.

To load Mpeg2 files into Tmpgenc you need a Mpeg2 decoder installed on yer System, Either the "Ligos Mpeg2 decoder" or the "CyberLink Mpeg2 decoder",If you install "Power DVD" you will get the Cyberlink Decoder and most codec Packs come with the Ligos Mpeg2 decoder..and there is an Odl Mpeg2 decoder that works with Tmpgenc called "M2V-VFP"..But the Best way to encode Mpeg2 files with Tmpgenc is to use DVD2AVI to make a D2V Frameserver File and a Mp2 audio file, then encode the D2V file to whatever you want(Mpeg1/2) then just Mux the audio file to the encode mpeg file, There is no need to encode the audio cuz it is allready in Mpeg format.

well i have an SVCD mpg file, and i want to encode it to a VCD mpg file, but TMPEG won't even let me open the SVCD mpg file so i can encode it to a lower format. how can i fix that?

i forgot to say, i also have WinDVD installed on my comp, so it should have the SVCD codec installed

And I allready explained How to encode Mpeg2 files if you Can"t load them into Tmpgenc...I said to use "DVD2AVI" to make a "MP2" audio file and a "D2V" Project File which will Frame serve the Video to Tmpgenc, when the Video is Finnished being encoded Just Multiplex the MP2 audio file with the Video file useing the "Mpeg Tools",It is Really Quite simple, this Method is actually better than Loading the Mpeg2 file directly into Tmpgenc..But if you have the Correct Mpeg2 decoders installed then you shouldn"t have a Problem loading Mpeg2 files into Tmpgenc...If the Reason why you are encodeing a SVCD to VCD is Because your DVD Player will not play SVCD"s then you might be able to Fool your DVD Player into thinking the SVCD File is a VCD File, and you can do this without Encodeing the File to VCD and without looseing Quality which you will loose when you encode the SVCD to VCD...All you have to do is load the SVCD file into "Tmpgenc"s" "Merge & cut" with the "Video-CD Non-Standard" setting in the Dropdown Menu and Just running the File through, this will adda VCD Header to the File so when you burn it as a VCD your DVD Player will think the SVCD is a VCD and Play it..This works with Most DVD"s Players that Play only VCD"s....

When I try to start endcoding I get an error message saying "can't load P3Packing .dll" can anyone help me get pass this? Thanks in advance Daniel

This error is from Not haveing all of the Tmpgenc files in the Same folder, Every file that comes with Tmpgenc Must be in a Folder, then Same Folder and you can Not have the Main EXE File sitting on your DeskTop as a ShortCut...

That's right. I went back and did a search for p3packing.dll. Found it. Then dragged it over to the correct folder and everything worked. Thanks.

I am frameserving from Premiere to TMPGENC. For some reason TMPG hangs when the .mpg file reaches 699,545 KB each time. Have looked high and low in menus and on-line without finding what the reason is. I have also changed the bitrate and it hangs at the same filesize regardless.

Would greatly appreciate any help!

I'm suddenly having a major problem encoding my vcds. I use the Project Wizard just to let you know. Whenever I try to encode avi's which require TMPEG to "Judge Field ORder" I immediatley receive an "Invalid Pointer" error and cannot continue with the encode. This is even happening to files which I have previously encoded with no such problems. This happens EVERY time TMPEG goes theough the "Judging Field Order" routine, can anyone help me please?

I have tried a few tricks to get this to work (which have always worked in the past). I have tried running the avi through vdub with direct stream copy (failed), extracting the sound and video seperatley then running them through TMPEG (failed), tried clicking abort before the error popped up (very hard because it happens IMMEDIATLEY, failed also), tried extracting audio/video then sticking em back together with vdub, using direct stream copy (failed). any other suggestions? Oh I also tried changing the AVI VFW to -2 to -4 and tried changing directshow to -3 to -5, usi9ng different combinations (failed).

is there anyone who can help me?

Why are you lowering the priority of the VFAPI filters? You should be increasing them for higher compatibility.

Have you tried installing FFDSHOW?
Also have you tried frameserving through either Virtualdub or AVIsynth?

I did that because I was searching through this BBS for previous answers to similar questions and i kept seeing that was recommended. I'll try the other way then.

PS: I dunno what frameserving is even but i'll try to figure it out

ok I increased the avi vfw and directshow settings, if i set them to 0 the video will not even start to load (it will say incompatable filetype or soemthing like that) and if I set it to -1 the same thing happens as before (except at 2% instead of at 1%)

Don't increase both. Just the directshow to '2' and everthing else to '0'
If that doesn't work then install FFDSHow like I said.

When I do that it says unsuported file.... and i have downloaded FFDSHOW..
I have actually recompressed the avis but lost quality in the process and the audio is about 1/4 of a second off >_<

When i try to encode an AVI to MPEG i get this message ;

Read error occurred at adress BFF7A125 of module 'KERNELL32.DLL' with 007DFF64

Can someone please tell me what this means ?!?! I have absolutely no idea ... it worked fine before and now suddenly it doesn't work anymore ...

after i clicked ok on the error message and pressed start to start the process i got another error message saying something about TMPGenc.exe ..... clicked ok again and pressed start again and now it's working .... or atleast it's encoding ...

I have downloaded just about every codec I can think of, and all of my movies work(xvid - no problems), but I have recently downloaded a movie with ninja xvid in it and I cannot get it to work. It freezes TMPG and my quicktime player tells me the required compressor could not be found. This is the exact name of the file - Chicago(dvdscreener)Xvid.cd1-Ninja. Anyone have any clues? I couldn't find a ninja codec and I am out of ideas. Minion? Ashy? Anyone????

just to explain the "freezing up" that occurs in tmpg; The file will appear in the video and audio boxes, but when I began the encoding tmpg froze and stopped responding. I then went to source range and entered a later start frame and it worked.... for about a minute, and then froze and stopped responding again. So I went and entered an even later start range and it is currently working, but with 97000 frames to encode it's probably going to freeze again.

You don't need a codec called NINJA. This is the name of the group that ripped it. You need to rename the file and give it an .AVI extension.

If that doesn't work install FFDSHOW also.

No Matter What, the File should have an "AVI" extention, if it doesn"t then that could be why you are haveing problems decodeing it..And remember when it comes to downloaded movies All bets are Off, you never know what you are getting and don"t even know if it will work at all or is even a Movie File ,I downloaded something that I thought was an AVI file and it turned out to Be a Corrupted Application (An EXE File with AVI Extention)..and other"s were Movie files But just didn"t work Properly...so allways be ware...

I have converted many movies (AVI to MPG) with TMPGEnc. And even though the final MPEG movie can be watched, the quality is not good. The final movie goes in slow motion (sometimes), or it stops and then continues.

The (source) AVI movie plays great. I have a 2.5 GHz processor with a lot of memory so I don't think I have the wrong hardware.

I never had any problems when I used the free version of the software running on a 600 MHz PC.

Any ideas what may be happening.

I play the AVI on the PC and looks great. Then I play the converted MPEG movie on my DVD player since I don't have the software to play DVDs on my PC.

your going to have to tell us more of what you did.


Did you use 2pass? did you set the motion search to high ? did you use "motion esitmate search" ? because that one suck and jerks for me.


Best thing to do if you converting a whole movie would be to use 2 cd's use xsvcd make sure you use 2pass use slowest motion search. it will take along time but its the best looking.

The Effect of the Video Slowing down and Stopping sounds like you are experienceing Bitrate spikes, what happens is the Bitrate suddenly jumps really high for a second and the DVD Player can not spin the Disk fast enough to read the Increased data rate so you get an effect of the Video slowing down and the audio staying the same then the Video Catches up to the Audio and it will Play good For a While, and sometimes the Audio will Cut out..If this is the effect you are getting then it is because of Bitrate Spikes, As for Playing Mpeg2 files on your Computer all you have to do is Download a Free Codec and you can watch them with Media Player, Media Player isn"t good for watching Mpeg files But it is better than Nothing, You can either download the Ligos Mpeg2 decoder(Should Work) or the Elecard Mpeg2 decoder but it will display a Little logo on the screen while watching Mpeg2 files, and you can probably find PowerDVD for free if you got creative and Looked for it...

What sort of MPEG is this? If it's MPEG1 then it will play with Media player.
If it's MPEG2 then just download one of the many PC DVD players out there. There are even free ones so you have no excuse not to have one.
Download and install this codec which will allow you to play MPEG2 and DVD files on your PC with Media player. http://www.dataflow.it/Download/freedvd.zip

Without knowing if this problem exists on the PC also we can't really help you.

Thanks Ashy, and thanks Minion. What describes Minion is what is happening to me. I followed Ashy instructions. I installed a DVD player software package in my PC. I played the final movie (DVD quality) created with TMPGEnc and it plays fine. I saved it to a CD and play it in my Apex DVD player and boom! It happens again...

I also tried bbMPEG (another MPEG-2 encoder) and even though the final image quality is not the same (as the one produced with TMPGEnc), I don't have the problems I am describing... This is what drives me nuts.

Any ideas?

You need to give us some info about the MPEG you are creating. What format is it, MPEG1 or MPEG2? Have you split it? Which encoding method did you use and what bitrates did you use. What frame size is it? What model of player do you have and what burning software are you using?

Hello Ashy, and thanks again. Here is more info.

* I have a digital camcoder (Canon). I use Windows XP and Movie Maker to digitize my home videos
* Once the movie is done (with Movie Maker) I create an AVI file
* I use TMPGEnc to convert the AVI to MPEG-2 (720x480)
* The only thing I change within TMPGEnc are the "Full screen (keep aspect ratio), and the "Highest quality (very slow)" pass thingy.
* Once it's done, I burn the MPEG file to a CD using the native CD burning features of Windows XP (Roxio software) and I play it on my Apex DVD player

The only thing that I am not sure is the speed I burned the CD at. At know it is set to maximum speed.

Should I be changing the speed?

First of all NEVER burn MPEGs at high speed. You will most likely have problems. Use a low speed. Around 4x is best, but experiment with higher if you want and check the results.

Second, don't bother with 'Highest quality' you will not see any visible improvement over 'High quality' apart from the dramatic increase in encoding time.

Next, use a proper burning program such as NERO for burning your MPEGs. Windows and for that matter any Roxio product is just crap for MPEGs.

You didn't tell me what bitrates you were using, you said something about a pass thingy so I suspect you are using 2 pass. Again most people who have used it agree that Constant Quality(CQ) is the best encoding method.

My conclusion from this is that I guess your problem is related to your max bitrate which you have set to high and your player cannot handle and your burn speed. Also your disks may not be compatible with your player.

NOT all media is the same, they vary widely. Some cheap media are good some are utter crap. The best and most compatible I have found are disks manufactured under the RITEK name such as Datasafe or Whitelabel brand, but these are sometimes also manufactured by Prodisk which I have found are utter crap in every machine I have tried them in.

* 9 bits DC component precision

I don't know what "constant quality" is, or where to set it.

I will take into consideration all of the other things you mentioned (4x speed to burn CDs, CD quality, Nero, etc.)

Are you telling me you are encoding an MPEG with 8000kb/s bitrate and then burning it to CD!?

There is absolutely no way this will play in your DVD player or any other player on this planet correctly.

8000kb/s is far too high for a DVD player to handle when burn to CD and if this is the case is most definitely the cause of you problem.

DVD players are limited to the bitrate they can handle from Cdr's because of the speed it has to spin the disk. Most if not all DVD players CANNOT spin the disk fast enough to read the bits of data from the disk which causes jerky playback.

DVD disks are different because the disk does not need to spin as fast because DVD's pack more bits of data into a smaller space whereas CDrs space the bits of data out a lot more.

Your PC is able to play this disk because PC DVD drives are built to spin at higher speeds.

Hello Ashy. During the last few days I have been creating several MPEG movies following the things you told me in your last message. Here are a few things I saw:

1) When I open the same AVI file, and I try to create a SVCD, the CBR is set to 1600 (by default) and the result file plays fine (PC and DVD player)

2) When I open the same AVI file, and I try to create a DVD, the CBR is set to 8000 (by default) and the result file plays fine on the PC, but not on the DVD player (this is my problem), even if I slow down the burning speed to 4x. Now, if I manually change the bitrate, the final MPEG plays only the audio. I can't see any images.

I just don't know what else to try.
