I have extracted the .DAT mpg1 files from 24 video cds and I want to compress them smaller for playback on an IPAQ. The first 8 worked perfectly, however when I try to open 9 thru 24 I get the error "can not open or unsupported". I tried changing the VFAPI plug-in priorities, as I saw in other posts, but it has no effect. Any ideas?

Try de-muxing the File and just encodeing the Video ...if it loads just mux the audio to the encoded video...Re-encodeing the audio will cause problems sometimes anyway....

Why and what did you use to extract the MPEG. VCDgear by any chance?
TMPG is capable of opening the .dat files directly without extracting first.

If you wish to extract the MPEG from the .dat file itself. Just load the .dat file into both fields in the the simple multiplexer and click run.

Everytime I try to encode an AVI to mpeg I get horrible purple bleeding that happens on every video I've tried. I wonder if anyone has heard of this before and knows what to do to resolve it?

It sounds like a "Angel Potion Codec" Problem...If you have the Angel potion Codec installed get rid of it ...It causes this discoloration ...but if you don"t have that codec then try raiseing the "direct Show" file reader in the "Vfapi Plugins"...

hey I need to know where do I find if I got Angel Potion codec install on my computer because I get purple when I try to convert a movie it fades in and out during the movie please help? but I have been read the message board and I think this is it. thanks

I'm using windows xp along with a pentium 4 2.0 ghz with enough memory and shit, but when i try 2 use "merge and cut" for splitting a svcd (made by tmpgenc) in 3 parts TMPGenc shuts down and i get the well-known message that an error has occured and microsoft wants 2 know about it.

Am i doing something wrong, is windows xp fucking it up or should i buy a new machine?

NO..What you need is a different Mpeg editor...Tmpgenc"s mpeg editor isn"t very good...Well it is good when it works But that isn"t as often as It should....

Try completely deleting TMPG first then re-install it.
If that doesn't work try an earlier version such as v2.56 and below.

I remember reading somewhere that VBR two pass does not work with Ulead Media Studio yet.

Is it working now?

If not, does the Pro version of TMPGEnc works?

Why would we Know ????The Mpeg encoder in Media studio isn"t very good ...you can do 2 pass with any version of Tmpgenc...

how do i install this? it doesnt say how in the website? im going to use it with premiere.

You can"t use it with premier....The only way to use it with premier is to use the "Premier Video server" from "http://www.videotools.net/...and frame serve it to tmpgenc or any other encoder...and it is Very slow...You are better off getting a real Mpeg plugin for premier...

When I try loading my d2v file that was made using DVD2AVI, it freezes for about 10 seconds, then gives the error: "Tmpgenc has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Tmpgenc will now close." Then, it gives this error: "File C:... can not open or unsupported." I've had the d2v files work from other movies, but with this one I'm having troubles. I've got the DVD2AVI.vfp in the environmental settings and everything. Any suggestions?

Make a New D2V file with DVD2AVI....

Well I guess the odvious way would be to use a Mpeg editor.you can try the "Mpeg Tools" Merge & Cut" ...Go to "File" to "Mpeg tools" to "merge & Cut" and you can figure it out from there.it"s easy as Pie...And a 718MB Mpeg file isn"t a Big Mpeg file...You can fit it and More on a 700mb 80 minute CD-r....

He can use a 74 Minutes CD-R.

74 Minutes = 737 MB
80 Minutes = 797 MB

And Chapters without cutting into parts can be done with VCDEasy.

I just wanna say that yes people, I am pretty much a beginner.I've been encoding for about 5-6 months and I'm STILL learning more from experience and experimenting with different projects.You people teach me alot of what I need to know. when I'm encoding a movie and when it's done, I get no sound...I have before, but since I've cleaned my hard drive things have changed alot, and this is one of the issues I'm experiencing now. I'm sorry people for all the questions and problems but I like encoding movies myself and learning how to at the same time from you guys teaching me! please help me with this issue and I'll try to stay off here for awhile...and maybe I can give someone else some advice when I learn enough from you all. Well the audio in the source file is probably not supported By tmpgenc, or you don"t have the proper Decoders installed on your machine..What you need to do is Extract the audio from the Avi file to a WAV file with Virtual Dub then use that as the audio source in Tmpgenc...

Does TMPGEnc limit the source file size to 4 Gigs? If so, how do you get around this limitation?

No Tmpgenc does not limit the File size But your Opperateing system Might...

I am running Windows2000 with NTFS which does not limit the file size. Any other ideas as to what it might be?

Nope I have no idea...I run XP and use encode mpeg file bigger than 4 gb quite often...You can try encodeing it in 2 parts and joining the 2 files after....

about 4% into encoding i get this error index of scan line is out of range 360

I seem to be having problems encoding some programmes! I have encoded films like James Bond from avi files fine! But when i encode smaller files the sound becomes all jumpy! There will be sound for a second then a second with out! and it keeps repeating itself over and over! Can ny1 tell me what Im doing wrong?

Well tell us what you are doing then Maybe we can tell you what you are doing wrong...But what it sounds like to me is that the avi file has "VBR MP3" audio which is not supported in Tmpgenc..You need to extract the audio to a WAV file with "Virtual Dub" then use the WAV file as the audio source..It is a Good idea to do this with most files so you don"t have audio problems later...
