Question - TAW5 BBS - Creation of proxy editing files No.65955
The Jazzman  2012-03-15 18:51:28 ( ID:yjad2xazoo2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Like the improvements made, but one item that I have hit a problem with in the creation of proxy editing file.

In Version 4, you could import several files at once and select the option to create the proxy as part of the importation process.

However, I am at a loss to find this mean of importation in version 5 :(

Does anyone have any idea where to find this, or has it been lost in the update?

Peter  2013-01-13 20:26:13 ( ID:si/auk2ue8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I do have exactly the same problem. I really liked the option of V4 to select to create a proxy file direcly in the add file dialogue.

Now I always have to go to the "extended tools" and create the proxy file in a extra step. That is really a step backwards in usability.

Can this be brought back please?

Regards - Peter

TAW User  2013-07-10 03:11:35 ( ID:cex0ytdd4pl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, I'm missing this too. Any way to add it back?
I try to have proxies created at night so that during the day when I'm working it's efficient. But now there's no way to "batch create" the proxy files.

TAW User  2013-07-11 23:26:12 ( ID:bfzsixjdwn2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So there is a way to batch create proxy files.
Start TAW
Click on Advanced Tools
Under Proxy File, click on Create
Select the files you want to have proxies for by using the Add button
Click on Create

Question - TAW5 BBS - Cannot activate smart rendering for any of H.264 DVB recordings No.65954
Arturrol  2012-03-15 18:47:10 ( ID:kx6cvy6ojbk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Dear Sirs,

I cannot activate smart rendering function for any of my H.264 DVB recordings ( it is not possible even for a cleaned HDD copy of original H.264 blu-ray)
Maybe it is a restiction of a trial version ????????
If not, please give us a specification area required to get desired smart rendering.
Smart rendering works only for AVCHD camcorder files.

Regards

Anton Strauss  Home )  2012-03-15 18:06:43 ( ID:3ixwdxk4azm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

We need more advanced settings in the encoding of motion menus, such as Closed GOP and GOP structure, similar to all the advanced settings of Mastering Works

this is important so that the motion menu has the same parameters as the main movie tracks that may be encoded in Mastering Works with all its advanced settings

I would like to request chapter playlists, these are very handy for playing any one or more chapters within one track and then upon completion to return to menu

I am sure it would have been requested 1000 times but I like to add one more to make it 1001 requests

tkrave  2012-03-16 08:46:20 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but for DVD projects, you can select an action at the end of chapter playback.

Go to the Global DVD menu settings-->chapter tab, and you'll see a dropdown for the chapter end action. Choose to play the next chapter or go back to the track menu.

Anton Strauss  Home )  2012-03-16 13:05:24 ( ID:3ixwdxk4azm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I only use it for Blu-ray production

let me expand what is needed:

lets assume one video clip has 10 chapter points

now, I want to create a menu button and link it to chapter5, upon pressing the menu button, chapter 5 should be played and then at the end of chapter5, the menu should appear

or, I may want to link a menu button or text to a chapter playlist, such as chapter 3, 5 and 7 and then the end action of the chapter playlist should be the menu

also, a movie playlist is needed, example there are 10 tracks with 10 movies and I want to create a menu button to play movie2, 4 and 6 and then return to menu

these are very simple things done in DVD Lab Pro, see attached examples

The successor to the award-winning TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 is here.

http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/taw5.html

New output features include the use of the world-renowned x264 encoding engine for H.264/AVC Blu-ray and AVCHD output. In addition, users can utilize their NVIDIA CUDA or Intel Media SDK (Quick Sync Video) hardware for H.264 encoding and decoding. TMPGEnc Movie Plug-in SpursEngine is also supported, allowing SpursEngine MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC hardware encoding. Users with AVCHD camcorders can now input and output the AVCHD file format with little image degradation. AVCHD output is possible in these formats: for playback on AVCHD Progressive devices, DVD media, and hard drives/SD memory cards.

All-new and improved input and editing features help create DVD, Blu-ray and AVCHD projects with stunning professional results. Up to 8 subtitle streams (up to 2 for AVCHD output) and 4 audio streams can be added to expand the reach of any project. The improved MPEG-TS file analyzer displays all available video, audio and subtitle streams enabling selection of the desired streams from the BD folder or TS file. Dolby Digital Plus audio is now a supported input format. The updated Smart Rendering engine allows lossless editing of MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC files as long as they are compliant with the output format.

The updated Smart Rendering engine lets you take DVD/BD/AVCHD-compliant video and make all the cuts you want, while keeping the original video quality upon output. In other words, it won't re-encode the parts of the video that it doesn't have to. In addition to MPEG-2 (for DVD-Video & Blu-ray), the Smart Rendering engine now supports H.264/AVC video!

Question - TAW4 - TAW5 - first impressions No.65946
Indy  2012-03-15 05:51:42 ( ID:zht9evss3kh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there,

I really was somewhat enthusiastic about the availability of the english version of TAW5. So I immediately tried the new version with recordings (*.ts-files) of HD streams of german public broadcasting stations, which are 1280x720 50p. This streams should be fully bluray compatible. But my misgiving has become true, because TAW5 will full render all those files just in the same way TAW4 did with the exception of h.264 instead of Mpeg2. It would be good to know, why TAW thinks the streams are not compatible. Any suggestions to this (see video stream specifications below)? I will also ask Pegasys, but I don't expect them to be helpful.
Btw. DVR-Studio HD (www.haenlein-software.com) is able to produce blurays of my HD streams without reencoding, but this software has got a terrible UI and a useless menu editor).

So long,
Indy

Question - TAW4 - Authoring works codecs No.65939
Val  2012-03-14 19:49:34 ( ID:yjugllmhu1w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello
Does anybody know why on 64bit OS Authoring works is using 32bit codecs?
Thanks

tkrave  2012-03-15 02:32:13 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think it's a 64-bit optimized program; it's only compatible with Win7 64-bit.

Question - TAW4 - Encoding No.65931
Val  2012-03-14 03:00:49 ( ID:yjugllmhu1w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,
I would like to ask few questions:
1.Is it possible to encode DVD in less than 15 minutes.Because i have just made a dvd and it took only 13 minutes.
I remember it used to take 6 Hours? Is it possible that it is not encoding right?

2.Very important question.
I have got an AVI file which is not playable in Authoring works.I am not sure why.Keep crushing the Program. It seems is a codec program.
I can fine watch the video in bs player or any player.
It may be Authoring works can not access the right codec?
What should i do in this case?
Is there a way to see why Authoring works wont play it.
Media info will give me the info but it wont help me.I will post the info from media info.
Thanks

tkrave  2012-03-14 04:05:56 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If your source file was DVD-compliant, then output will be very fast like you describe. You can tell if it is compliant if there is a blue "SR" logo on the thumbnail of the clip in the Source stage. Whenever that logo appears, it will be smart rendered and little to no re-encoding will occur.

Non-compliant video will be fully re-encoded to the DVD-Video standard, which can take a while depending on your system specs.

For your AVI, it sounds like it could be a codec problem.
What file reader is being used to open the file in TAW4? The clip properties screen shows the file reader being used under video properties. You can try using a different file reader to see if that fixes the problem.
To use a different file reader, go to Options-->Preferences-->Input Format List-->File Input Plug-in and uncheck the file reader being used to open the file. This will force TAW4 to use a different file reader and thus, a different codec.

Hi Thank you for your answer but the media info for the video i was able to encode in 14min is:
video divx3Low
947kbps 576/448 25fps Mpeg 4
Audio 128kbps 44.1khz 2ch MP3
The only problem is that the new dvd has no SOUND whatso ever and only buzzing.
Do you have any idea what that could be?
For the video that crashes the program media info is:
format avi
codec xvid
2054kbps 720/544 23.976fps Mpeg-4 Visual(Advanced Simple@L5)BVop1
audio Mpeg-1 layer3 115kbps 48kHz 2ch.
Thanks again

Question - TVMW5 BBS - Gamma/brightness shift in encodes from .mov No.65930
MRK  2012-03-14 01:32:56 ( ID:y36rgen3j.2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Encodes from mov containers - especially 10 bit prores in VMW5 come out considerably brighter than the original file.

Initially I thought target codec was at fault, but it's brighter regardless of output codec used, and gamma shift can be seen already in initial Clip-properties/Cut-Edit windows. Since the problem doesn't exist in tmpeg Xpress 4 (even when both programs are on the same encoding PC), I can only presume quicktime importer is at fault, and always defaults to PC 0,255 range instead of the correct 16,235.

I also tried placing old vfapi mov importer in directory, hoping it would replace built in mov importer in VMW5, but to no avail.

benoitm  2012-03-16 18:40:31 ( ID:y0q5giiuipn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Guess it's about the same proble I encounter with DnxHD encapsulated in .mov
The good news is that I found a workaround, the bad news is that the workaround works in 5.0.5.32, and is broken in 5.1.1.52
(http://community.avid.com/forums/p/96567/618853.aspx#618853)

diaphote  2012-03-19 06:53:30 ( ID:/9my1dyax76 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you are using a recent version, replace the Quicktime importer, MovieQT.vme, with the same file from version 5.0.5.32.

This will cure a serious color shift problem introduced in the more recent releases. It also will once again treat Quicktime 0-255 & 16-235 correctly (at least with Avid DNxHD; I don't know know what it will do with prores).

If you still don't get the level range that you need, you can adjust with the Color correction filter >YUV >CCIR601 expansion.

benoitm  2012-03-19 19:54:47 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

5.0.5.32 was not ok for the Y range with mov(DNxHD) for me; I had to compensate Y range compression by a Color Correction filter (luma: +2, contrast: +42); this workaround apparently restores the exact Y range without causing any clipping (< 16 or > 235)

diaphote  2012-03-20 07:44:44 ( ID:/9my1dyax76 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I shouldn't have used the word "correctly". I meant that it works as it previously did. If encoding a Quicktime exported from Avid with 601/709 settings, I use 601 expansion in TMPGEnc's color correction filter -- which seems to accomplish the same thing you are doing with the +2, +42 adjustments.

With a fully color corrected project, with no video below 16 or above 235, I just export a Quicktime reference with the RGB option. Then, no color correction is needed.

I suggested substituting the MovieQT.vme file from version 5.0.5.32 because the newer QT importers introduced the new color shift problem. Version 5.2.3.66 seems to handle the luminance range OK, but distorts chroma. I hope it gets fixed.

benoitm  2012-03-21 17:13:15 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK, looks like we are on the same wavelength :)
Is TMPGEnc support really monitoring this forum, or should we file a support request (they should be made aware that some people actually DO use DNxHD/QT with TVMW5...) ?

diaphote  2012-10-13 11:16:43 ( ID:mdckbtjiy6f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

" ...newer QT importers introduced the new color shift problem."

Version 5.3.1.85 seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you.
